Brandon has done it again! Embedded above you’ll find a thorough video explanation of how to install the R.E.A.L. VR mod (useful for those of you who are new to the Patreon, but even people who have already played with my mods can probably learn a new trick or two) and a final deep dive into the magical world of Pandora… actually, into the magical world of optimizing the game’s visible and hidden options so that the magical world of Pandora will look as good as possible in your headset.

In the video description you will find timestamps for the various sections, and even links to configuration files that Brandon prepared so that you can easily set your graphics options according to the power of your GPU.

Thank you Brandon for the wonderful job (it’s just crazy how many hours go into researching and documenting configurations in order to make a video like this).

And stay tuned, because even though the winter holidays are over, VR Santa is still going to deliver a surprise pretty soon!

Yeah! Thanks Brandon still awesome! And can’t wait for the surprise Luke!!!

FlyingWaffle

Great job Brandon! Will try a few things tonight, like turning off the clouds (they may matter more visually when flying around rather than when being on the ground, not sure)

Brandon(Post Maester)

I'm glad you found some things that may improve your time in Pandora :) Have fun!

JLinn

VR Santa is so much nicer than regular Santa :)

lid

Hi, can you please recommend a pc to buy that can optimally run cyberpunk mod? Please include specs, thanks so much

Matthew Kinsey

Playing Ghosts of Tsushima. At beginning where you sneak through the village. There is some kind of tinted window over most of my view with tiny unreadable text appearing and disappearing at the top. I can't figure out how to remove this.

Roman Kuzmenko

Hey, Brandon. Great job, thank you! Would you mind sharing your settings in the mod itself? I’m curious because I have similar PC specs (though I understand it might not work the same for everyone). I’d like to compare them fully with my current settings to understand the differences.

Joey DiBenedetto

I know there is no support for it, but would anyone be able to answer if it’s worth the time of trying to get the LCPP mod working with the VR mod for gta5 or is it impossible/waste of time?

Tomo

It wii go away once you leave the tutorial area annoying indeed got me also confused

Brandon(Post Maester)

I use the second preset with clouds, cloud shadows and specular reflections turned off. PPD depends on headset. I also prefer Legacy rendering mode at 90fps. 72hz using 1/2 is a solid choice. There are a number of factors other than graphics settings, so that is not easy to answer without comparing our headsets and REAL settings. But drop in that preset and that is what I use.

Tomo

DEAD SPACE PLsssssssssss !!

Tim Hitchins

I followed the settings for Avatar but I'm on a Pimax Crystal Light and it's not coming through to the headset at all. It ran the realconfig.bat file without an issue, I also ticked the unblock setting on the .zip folder. On the TV the resolution goes crazy, lots of colours and massively pixelated ones at that. Any ideas what I can try to fix?

bpatchesnet

I have a technical question concerning the new NVidia 50 cards. When I compare a 5080 with a 4080 Super the raw power is not much higher. The higher performance is only gained by multi frame gen. Am I right that Frame Gen is not supported by Lukes Mods? So an upgrade to a 5080 wouldn't give me more performance? Is it possible that the multi frame gen is supported in later versions of the mod or is it unlikely?

reanor

VR Santa needs to get his VR s.... reindeer together... :D

Brandon(Post Maester)

I don't know if that is really answerable at the moment :) I myself am really considering holding off until later down the road if Luke somehow finds a way to get it working. Will most likely be a while before we can actually get our hands on a 5090 anyways. That being said.... I'll probably set an alarm on release day and try to swipe one before the scalpers get them all :) and if I fail, probably won't feel too down about it and just wait it out. The price is ridiculous but since I already have a ridiculously priced 4090 I can most likely get more than half the cost of the 5090 back. Short answer... We don't know 🙃

FlyingWaffle

Just to double check, but the mod should work fine with the game's two DLCs, right?

Matthew Kinsey

So...optimally, if you mean the best graphics and performance, isn't completely achievable on VR for CP2077 yet. I run a heavily overclocked 4090, an AMD 7800x3d and 64gb of 6000mhz ddr5........and I still need more performance for CP in VR. I have all graphics settings at max ( except NO. Raytracing and screenspace reflections OFF) with the mod target pixels at 31.5 .......and "Optimal" will still need more horsepower. If you can afford it and want the most visually pleasing CP2077 VR experience, then get at least at 4090 and the best cpu you can which is a 9800x3d at the moment. ....if you can wait one month and can find one, the Nvidia 5090 will be out at may give as much as 30 to 40 percent raster rendering uplift to the game and possibly even double the performance with DLSS 4.....A PC as specified is going to run you $5k- $6k though.

Brandon(Post Maester)

People have mentioned playing them :) haven't tried yet but they should.

Disco Dan

Never has being blue felt so good! :) Thanks Brando top job scholar! The sheer scale of this game and immersion is a thing of beauty to behold in VR.

Matthew Murray

Hi Brandon, I've spent hours and hours playing with settings to optimize Ghost of Tsushima since it ran so poorly at first. What finally did it for me was setting rendering mode to "Legacy AER". Its so much better! The game runs 2x fps and is so much easier on the eyes. Why is it that legacy is so much better for me? Did I do something wrong? I'm running Valve Index, Steam OpenXR, DLSS 3 enabled on Quality, Framegen off, with a 4070 Ti.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Legacy is easier on performance because it is not generating extra frames like 1/3 or 1/2. It is less fluid because of that, and it has motion jitter. The motion jitter was one of the main reasons Luke made AER V2. I am used to the motion jitter when things move past me so I stick with Legacy to push resolution higher. The fluidity of 1/2 feels amazing though. Just depends on your system and your preferences. Nothing wrong with enjoying either one.

Brandon(Post Maester)

You are most welcome. It feels like I am a kid again, getting lost in the forest when playing AFOP :)

Raven Starfire

But this works with the latest DLSS right? We got two more weeks to find out how good the 50 series cards are!

Sean Lewis

Great overview generally thanks 🙏🏻 how do you find it running on that rig? I’m on a 3070 laptop and it’s pretty good, although some elements of gameplay are heavily pixelated like driving, but weirdly sat in the cars I can get really close to the detail of the interiors and it looks really sharp. It’s almost like there’s a sort of variable resolution thing going on.

Matthew Kinsey

So, CP in VR runs well for me at the above settings. I say "well" as framerate "tolerance " in VR is VERY individual. I'm running about 50 to 70 fps in the headset with my above mentioned settings with over 500 hours in the game, in VR, so I'm very used to the experience I've dialed in for myself and suffer no motion sickness at all even after hours in the headset at that frame rate. In addition the specific settings I mentioned in my above reply, there are 2 different resolution settings to play with, the in game settings resolution ( which maxes out at 3920x3920 with the mod) and also the "target pixels per degree" which is found by going to menu and pressing both triggers to bring up the mod overlay. With in game resolution set to max the pixels per degree should default to 20.0. Start raising that from 20.0 to 20.5/ 21.0/21.8 etc etc until the frame rate becomes intolerable or the game feels visually wonky, then back it down one or two steps to find your ideal experience depending on your hardware. I'm also running dlss set to quality, sharpness at 1.0 ( slider all the way to the right) and frame generation. Also I have the mod in Legacy rather than 1/2 or 1/3 as it runs much smoother for me.

Chris Clark

I cant get this vr mod to work for cyberpunk. I get an error about the directory address. However i have installed it in the right place. Inside the games directory, inside the bon /x64 folder right next to the games exe file. I start it up and get the error message. Any ideas whats wrong?

Tim Hitchins

Shame about this as I'll just have to stop the subscription straight away. I was looking forward to trying two of the best VR games ever, cyberpunk and avatar :(

Brandon(Post Maester)

Odd, what platform do you own the game on? Game is up to date? Using version 16.0.1 of the mod?

mrorange

good idea, will check the video in detail

Brandon(Post Maester)

@ Raven By latest, if you mean the latest version of DLSS 3, then yes. If you mean DLSS 4, we will have to wait and see. Probably so but I don't really know what changes DLSS 4 makes and how it will affect the DLSSS algorithm. Again, it will be a wait and see thing. If DLSS 4 does cause issues, we should be able to drop DLSS 3 back into the game I would imagine though. The Nvidia app is adding functionality to change the DLSS version of each game from what they reported.

evilbenny

My turning goes all weird and laggy when i turn in game, but not when i turn in real life in cyberpunk

Brandon(Post Maester)

Do you have frame gen on? What headset and how are you connected if not DP? What kind of fps and latency are you getting? There are fps and latency boxes you can check to show in game. They are located in the overlay tab of the REAL overlay.

Benji Ward

i have this same problem. am using a quest3 through virtual desktop. amd gpu with frame gen on. turning my head everythings fine. turning using gamepad weird and laggy

Chris Clark

Currently on quest 3, latest version. I found out it was a mod conflict. Apparently it doesnt play too well with mods. I’ve removed them all and seems to be working fine. :)

aLion

Interesting that between traditional Santa and newage VR Santa... one of them is actually REAL.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Frame gen causes issues, disable it. Also, a good idea to bring up the VD performance graph and look for any issues there.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Most mods should work fine. Just depends on if they change things that the mod does as well. Most things like texture mods or mods that add carts etc. should be just fine. Just be careful because texture mods can conflict with each other and cause issues.

Doggo

What mode is recommended in Virtual Desktop? On VDXR Godmode I get 60 fps however there is a outer black box that judders with fast head movement.

Tomo

Callisto Protocal I got to say was the best experience so far with UEVR. The atmosphere, sound - second to none - hence the Dead Space remake would be a blast and something new and fresh ! the Ubisoft games are basically all the same but different colours :)

andreas brosam

I also use VD and have this black trembling edge in other Luke Ross mods like Cyberpunk but especially here. What has also never worked properly is that I can't reach the top and bottom edges with the mouse in the mod. And no, I haven't touched any of the settings in the game. Everything is as Luke has preset it.

Alessandro D'Amico

Hello everyone, I have smooth gameplay but very choppy recording with Oculus Stray tools, can anyone help me with the problem and for the discussion of increasing the priority? 🙏🙏🙏

Ninja Pepe

If you buy the patreon for one month and then quit it will you still recive the benefits? If an update comes out that breaks the mod do i have to just pay 10 bucks again?

Brandon(Post Maester)

If an update breaks the mod, then yes, you would have to resub to get the version with a fix. You could also roll back the game version depending on what platform you own the game on.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Make sure you have the Meta PC app installed on your system, so it has the Oculus dll's needed for Oculus compatibility mode. Auto runtime in the REAL overlay should then default to Oculus runtime, if not, switch to Oculus runtime. You will most likely need to disable the HUD mipmap box in the main tab of the overlay as well.

Tim Hitchins

Ok, will try thanks. Just to confirm, this is the case (needing these Oculus files) even if I have a pimax headset? I hope we can get this working, it would be such a shame to miss out. It's the one game bar cyberpunk I wished would be in VR :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

Oculus Stray tools??? I don't know what that is. I use OBS. REAL has a built in OBS source you can enable in the REAL overlay towards the bottom of the main tab. Edit: Ha, you probably mean Oculus Tray Tool? Just got it. What settings are you changing?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Could be performance related, like low fps/high latency or the fov optimizations. Perhaps a combo of both. If you are using VD, it is a good idea to bring up the VD performance graph to see if some part of the setup is having spikes or performance issues. For the Hfov optimization, you can bring down the reduce shaking slider in the REAL overlay. If you disable Hfov it will cost a fair amount of performance but if it really bothers you, that is an option. But make sure you are getting adequate fps without really high latency first.

Matthew Kinsey

Unplayable. Path tracing brings me down to 5 to 10 fps if adding to my above specified settings.

Alessandro D'Amico

I have a problem that when I activate the mode in Mirroring, the recording goes smoothly, but the game remains fluid

Brandon(Post Maester)

If you are using the oculus mirror, it eats up more performance I believe. Have you tried obs? I get pretty good quality and it doesn't hurt my performance that badly. It's really easy to use and it captures your headset view as well as long as you enable the built in source each time you run the game.

evilbenny

Im on a quest 3 with link, i am using a DP, i get 72 fps no drops and around 70ms of latency, im using a r5 5500 and an rx 6750 xt

Brandon(Post Maester)

@Evilbenny, I'd check your cable in the Meta app. Although my MB has usb issues when using link cable and both my cables pass in the Meta app. Could be a usb thing. Have you tried using air link or VD to see if the same thing happens? Have you made changes in ODT or tray tool? You are not using DP; you are using a USB cable :)

evilbenny

Yeah i thought you meant monitor cable, im using a 3rd party and it passes on the app, i have the same issues when i use VD or airlink.

Dante999

Hi, I noticed that on Horizon Forbidden west the visual is correctly zooming when aiming, but this is not happening on Horizon Zero Dawn...is it normal?

D S

What kind of latency do you get Brandon?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Are you playing in first person on Zero Dawn? I don't think it zooms in much if you are in first person. I don't have it installed currently.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hmmm, do you have frame gen on? Maybe try running the config file again to reset settings and see if it still happens. You could also try disabling the Hfov opti in the main tab of the REAL overlay but that would be black bars when moving your head and not moving with the controller.

Brandon(Post Maester)

@Andreas, the black bars are either from poor performance or the Hfov optimization. For the Hfov opti, you can lower the reduce shaking slider in the REAL overlay to see if that makes it bearable. lower latency will help as well. Last resort is to uncheck the Hfov box but you will lose significant performance. With games where the screen extends beyond your monitor, because VR needs higher resolutions to look good, gamepad is the way to go.

Brandon(Post Maester)

It has been a while since I just played Avatar for fun on my Aero. I had planned on taking a day or two to play for fun but ended up mostly just decompressing from VR and hanging out with my wife and daughter. My daughter has been bugging me for a while to catch up on some anime. Just hopped back on with my Aero and I get 60-70ms around the home tree area and 70-100ms in the plains depending on where I am at or what is happening. I use Legacy AER when I am actually just playing a game for fun. Are you getting a lot of latency?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yes, you need to run Pimax in Oculus compatibility mode, and you will need those dll's to do so.

Dante999

Yes I am playing in first. In HFW there are 2 options in the overlay allowing zoom while aiming and further zoom when using the focus, and both this option work well when activated. In HZD I cannot find such options and the zoom is not working

Tim Hitchins

Great, thanks for the help. I'll give it a go!

Ángel Moreno Alcalá

Hi Luke! Thank you very much as always for letting us enjoy great titles in VR. I just wanted to make a suggestion, it would be a great joy for us to be able to enjoy older games in VR like Batman Arkham Knight, the latest Tomb Raider saga, Assassins Creed Unity or Alan Wake. Thank you very much for your great work and of course, thank you very much Brandon!

evilbenny

I reset the config but that didnt work, ive tried every game setting but they dont help, i have frame gen and fsr off, disabling hfov opti doesnt work either, the best way to describe its loads of screen tearing and ghosting but the ghosting isnt any lighter than the actual image, i tried turning vsync on but it didnt help.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Probably not then, he does plan on trying to do the Remastered version at some point here.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Can you please put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link to it here?

D S

Why doesn't Frame Gen work with mono mode at least? I mean a frames a frame right? Well at least we have AER!

D S

A form of Multi Frame Gen 4x (but by extrapolation) is actually possible on any MQ3+Nvidia Card with Virtual Desktop: Enable SSW (always mode, not auto) and use AER1/2 mode. Important though: *Use 120hz mode*. This is important to keep latency (and therefore black bars) down. Then adjust your res slider/setting to get 60FPS at all times to ensure you feed both AER and SSW the proper frames. If you can't get 60FPS solidly, don't use this method. https://youtu.be/YFyJ5RpQ8-g Try it and let me know if it works for you as it does me.

D S

Addendum: as a bonus the above method also reduces the overhead of AER somewhat (as compared to AER1/3 mode) improving frame rates.

D S

Add2: I only tested and A/B switched in Cyberpunk - I'll now to try this in other games: It's not a solves-all, it does have the SSW artifacting around the HUD, and AER isn't perfect either. It's really just good for high-refresh displays. The only thing that I can see that's different is this method does (sadly) add latency to each step, whereas the real MFG doesn't add as much since it's in parallel rather than series. AER1/3+SSW works too, but the latency was high enough that the black bars encroached. But technically it achieves 6x frame extrapolation. Neat at least as a tech demo.

VirtualResistance11

Yes please! I've almost completed Dark Souls except for the dlc and it was so good :) Dark Souls 3 is imo much better than 2 and it'd be great to see the improved graphics. I'm still looking forward to the Elden Ring dlc though^^ Aside from that I'd love to see any Tomb Raider games and Assassin's creed titles like Valhalla or Mirage but my biggest hope is that we get a pc port and VR mod of Stellar Blade ;) Thank you so much for all the amazing games so far Luke and the awesome guide Brandon!

evilbenny

Can you see what it could be?

Brandon(Post Maester)

I don't see anything in the log that looks off. Have you tried any other games that are not native? Something that would also push performance hard? If it happens in multiple games, I'd guess it is something with performance, cable or the Oculus software on your system, USB issues etc. I mean it could be a number of things. But I would think that would happen across multiple games and not just the one. If it is just CP, then try lowering performance until you have a solid fps cap of whatever your headset is set to and see if it still happens.

evilbenny

ill test other games but my fps is at a constant 72 all the time so i dont think its performance

Brandon(Post Maester)

Try switching to Legacy rendering mode, or Mono and see if what you are talking about goes away. Just to make sure it is not something like the motion artifacts from AER V2.

evilbenny

mono fixes it, but i cant play without 3d so is there a fix for the artifacts?

evilbenny

Only Mono doesnt have the artifacting ( my options are 1/2, 1/3, Legacy AER, and Mono, is that what they should be?

3649def

aprés plusieures reglages AVATAR tourne a 70 fps et c'est magnifique je n'aurait jamias achete ce jeux est pourtant en vr il est incroyable merci pour ce beau cadeaux

Brandon(Post Maester)

Ok, if it is the motion artifacts when turning in game, then Legacy will not have them either. Legacy will be less fluid and have motion jitter when things move sideways or past you. It will be easier on performance as well though.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. It is absolutely beautiful in VR. Have fun!

2026-09-05 06:00 Is Avatar a fun game? I heard the graphics are great, but the plot is boring. The price is quite expensive, hesitate whether to buy or not

Sean Lewis

Thanks for the response, sorry for the late reply I’ve only just seen the notification. On mine I can’t touch any of the settings. The latest version of the mod sets my ppd to 15, and at 1/3 it runs really smooth and maintains 60fps, if I switch to mono I get 70fps. Oddly the resolution seems to be highly variable. When I look at my laptop display it is sometimes windowed to almost the whole display, other times it’s like a square window. It also sets it as balanced, if I try to change that framerate drops to the 10s, if I tweak pod by even a fraction, it’s unplayable, often when I get the urge to try to play with the config and it’s all goes wrong I just have to restart the game. Once restarted everything is fine.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I think I'd probably give it a 6 or 7/10 as a base game. It does get somewhat repetitive and there is not a lot of enemy variety. You do visit very different biomes or areas of the world, so that helps to keep things fresh and add some variety to the missions and story. You can play through the main story at a pretty decent pace if you don't get caught up in extra stuff or trying to craft the best gear etc. So, in VR, it becomes an 8 or 9/10 for me. I do tend to get open world fatigue; I get caught up in making my character OP and by the time I have spent a bunch of time doing that the game starts feeling less fun and more repetitive. Plus, the extra hours I spend in testing and tweaking, so it feels like I have played the game for way more hours than I actually have. It is beautiful to explore in VR and there are some cool moments and missions. The beautiful and detailed world is astounding in VR. Takes me back to when I was a little kid exploring and playing out in the forest. I haven't beat it, I am just in the plains area still. If I had just picked it up to play in VR without added work, I definitely would have played right through it and enjoyed it. You could always wait for a sale. Definitely worth a try in VR at some point. Of course, your experience depends on your hardware too for this game. It is pretty performance heavy and having a high-end system and headset really brings out the amazing world. Of course, this is just my opinion, and I hope others chime in as well :)

D S

Will the update to DLSS (transformer model) be OK with Luke's new fix? I mean: is DLSSS agnostic of the method of DLSS?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Not sure really. I don't think we'll know until it comes out :) I'd think we should still be able to just drop DLSS 3 back in if needed though.

D S

Ghost of Tsushima is right up there with Cyberpunk - in some ways it's better. It performs well and is extremely fun. Much more so than Avatar. The visuals are beautiful and the story is captivating. Movement is a smooth. I can really appreciate the extra lengths Luke must have went to make it work despite the UI/HUD challenges. It's really impressive!

D S

Can anyone check this and reply>? I just realized the slider for "reduced shaking" also significantly affects how quickly "black bars" disappear? This is SO significant for me that I'm going back and trying it on multiple games. I had previously assumed the latency was the only factor determining how noticeable the black bars were. It might be annoying to have a shaky UI - but the in-game performance is much improved by moving it to zero. I assume this averages/smoothes head tracking, which is great for stabilizing the UI elements, but the unrendered areas recover much slower as a result too>? I mean this was huge for me and I don't know how many posts I've read complaining of black bars, only to assume there was nothing to be done other than reduce latency. To be clear it doesn't seem to affect the *degree* to which the bars encroach, but the speed at which they are "replaced/rendered". This is huge for me!

Brandon(Post Maester)

HAHA, if you look back over comments under recent Patreon posts, I have probably mentioned this a good 30 times :) I think it is also in one of Luke's posts. I have been mentioning it since the fov optis were introduced, I think. But yes, a handy tip indeed 🙃 I have to tease you a bit because you have been around for so long. Of course, thank you for sharing!

D S

I guess what I missed was that some games have it on by default, others do not, so although I had set it to zero in some games, I didn't realize it was set in others. You're right though. I missed it thinking I had already set it to zero, but it doesn't carry over between games. So here I was thinking some of them were less performant.

evilbenny

Legacy seems to have it as well for some reason

Skaparadise

Hi, do you recommend virtual desktop sharpening ? thank you :)

Brandon(Post Maester)

That is entirely up to your preference. I would just warn you in general about using too much sharpening. The deblur slider in the main tab of the Real overlay is a built-in sharpener that is all the way up by default. So, if you use VD sharpening on top of it plus possibly DLSS sharpening, or in game sharpening, that is a lot of sharpening.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I'd say maybe you have motion smoothing or ASW on or something then. Legacy should not have artifacts from motion, other than the ghosting that DLSSS should pretty much eliminate. Are you using a lot of sharpening? Like full DLSS sharpening along with the deblur slider in the overlay all the way up?

Poor Yurik

@Brandon I posted a few times about the hud overlay issue I was having with my Pimax Crystal. After not finding anyone with the same issue on any forum and trying quite a bit of troubleshooting/software reinstallations, I ended up totally reformatting and reinstalling Windows clean. Every works perfectly now and the mod is *incredible*. Two pieces of feedback: 1) The head origin in some cutscenes is wrong -- for example the first car ride with Deshawn your head is really low and forwards like you're a turtle :D, 2) I wish there was a way to edit how close you get to monitors when reading them -- I'm assuming that's to help people with low resolution VR headsets, but I have to lean back hard in my chair every time I login to a computer in the game.

Brandon(Post Maester)

There are first person camera sliders in the overlay but adjusting them must for monitors sounds like a big hassle. Your head still stays that way (car ride) even if you recenter? Glad it is working better for you now and you are able to enjoy it. Thank you for reporting back.

Tim Hitchins

I've installed the meta app and have even tried keeping the app open as I run Avatar. The image for avatar looks like it's REALLY zoomed in (going off the side and bottom of my screen) then sorts itself out to a window that fits on my tv. The VR mod app is there ready to go and then the game just shuts down :( I've also an issue with cyberpunk. The VR mod RealConfig.bat not realising the .exe file is there in the same directory?! I'm full of problems and I just want some VR fun :) Thanks for your suggestions so far Brandon. I've tried Cyberpunk installed in two different locations one after the other (uninstalled the first one before installing second) with no luck either.

FlyingWaffle

Sorry if this has been covered: in the skill unlock screen, it seems that some of the late skills to unlock (at the farther ends of some branches) are outside the rectangular area/screen boundaries. Is there a workaround?

Salf

Anyone got any advice on reducing stuttering for Avatar? I seem to be getting bad stuttering on ppd over 20 for this game, even if I lower all the graphics settings it seems to kick in on anything above that. It happens a little bit at 20 but above it’s constant. I have an rtx4080 but a 4 year old i7 processor so wondering if it’s a CPU bottleneck. Maybe there are some CPU intensive things I could reduce to alleviate it and get the resolution up? Cyberpunk I have at 26 ppd and it runs buttery smooth with most settings on high without ray tracing. Feels like I should be able to get more ppd on this game! Also, I’m running them at 90hz at 1/3 but get similar performance at 72hz 1/2.

evilbenny

Im on AMD, and im not using any upscaling

evilbenny

Also, my normal monitor has the game all glitchy all the time, theres like 3 glitchy ghosted versions of the player and the world is all shaky

Brandon(Post Maester)

I find 72 at 1/2 to be much better than 90 at 1/3. Less artifacts and trails, etc. A more powerful CPU would probably help with stability, but this game can still have major dips in areas. Definitely harder on performance than Cyberpunk. Have you watched the performance video yet? You can try disabling some of the things there to increase stability.

Salf

Yeah, watched the vids and guides. They helped me find a sweet spot for 20 ppd. I don’t mind a few dips here and there (which I get at 20) but over 20 it’s constant and my GPU has plenty of headroom when I have all the graphics settings mostly down (probably a couple I could try even lower like object detail and streaming distance) . So I was wondering if there were any specific graphics settings that people knew were more CPU intensive and maybe any specific config file settings I could try. If I could lighten the load on the cpu I might be able to squeeze some more ppd! It’s actually more the stutter in the sound that’s annoying as visually it’s not that noticeable. I do have it installed on a fast ssd too.

Brandon(Post Maester)

I think someone said they changed the aspect ratio in the game settings, and they were able to see them, then switch back after you are done. Something like that. If I disable Hfov I can also see them somewhat better, but they are not totally off the screen for me to begin with.

evilbenny

Ive tried everything, in game, real vr settings, but nothing fixes the screen lagging out when i turn in game , ive used legacy 1/2 and 1/3 but only mono works, is there any possible known reason, ps on my monitor screen the game is shaking for some reason and i think that has something to do with it

Hopefully I’ll be able to run it decently- got a 98003xd and planning on getting a 5080 rtx :)

Hi, I recently built a PC specifically to play Avatar. My setup is: GPU: 4090 CPU: 9800X3D RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 Quest 3 link cable The game looks amazing in VR, but no matter what I do, even if the frame rate is high, for some reason, whenever I look around using the right stick on my game controller, it is incredibly bad, like if the frame rate were 10 FPS. When I'm running or looking around with the headset, everything is fine; it's only when I use the right stick to look around that everything looks distorted and extremely bad, even though the FPS is high. I've noticed I always have high latency (140 to 100 ms minimum). Is this normal with this mod?

Brandon(Post Maester)

What rendering mode are you using? 100-140 sounds about right for this game depending on where you are, your frame rate and what rendering mode you are using. Is your controller wireless or do you have any other controller or input devices plugged in besides mouse and keyboard? Any other gaming or performance software running? FPS tracker, Nvidia App overlay, Riva Tuner etc.

Salvador jimenez

after hours and hours of trying to make this work i realize that the mod is miss communicating the correct resolution to the headset, the game always has a different resolution then the mod has and no matter what i do it would not make it right as a result the game looks low res and ugly no matter what i do

Taz

Sounds like you need to reinstall or run the RealConfig.bat file again. There is a new stability patchout for AFOP also and I've found it makes a huge difference to the game now, so that might also help you (I'm on a 4080 with a 7800X3D)

Salvador jimenez

I already deleted and reinstalled the game/mod on Windows 11. I just can't get it to look clean. No matter what PPD I choose, it always looks washed out, and the 3D effect looks a little off.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Make sure you have the display settings correctly set according to the release post! When you adjust the PPD slider and hit adapt resolution does it change the resolution displayed there? You have the game in windowed mode with scaling mode set to fixed?

Salvador jimenez

First, I want to thank you for your help, Brandon. I spent hours trying to fix this issue, trying everything in both the mod and game settings. After many attempts, I realized something is wrong with the resolution/3D effect. Everything close up looks good, but anything distant looks wrong, like the 3D image is low-resolution or distorted. No matter how high or low I adjust the PPD and apply it, it looks the same. I know how beautiful this game looks when working correctly because I played for about eight hours with no issues, and then it suddenly went back to being incorrect. The only thing that seemed to fix it when it was working was not something I did; it was more like it just happened by accident. I used my PSVR2 on Steam, also having the same issues. Then I went back to the Quest 3, and without doing anything, it looked amazing—colors and resolution, everything looked incredible. I played for eight hours, it went bad, then I did the same process, but no luck this time. So my question is now is there a way to alter the 3d effect or the resolutions ?. The PPD slider is not working i already tried everything deleted everything reinstalled windows, drivers, mod, I also tried old and new drivers for gpu,mod always the same issue

Salvador jimenez

I use a 4K 120Hz TV. Could that be confusing the resolution? I notice that whenever I play VR on the TV, the screen is not fullscreen; I can see desktop icons on both sides. When the VR was working perfectly, the TV screen did look fullscreen. All I saw was avatar on screen

Brandon(Post Maester)

Can you try setting a lower res on the TV? I don't think it would matter but I don't know for sure. Does it have HDR or any custom stuff in settings? You have anything out of the ordinary in your Nvidia settings or running any overlay software? You could try setting resolution in the RealVR.ini file but if the PPD slider is not working that may suggest an issue somewhere. Can you put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link here?

Salvador jimenez

Thank you, Brandon. I appreciate your help. I have already changed the in the Windows display options and turned off all settings like HDR, VRR, and 120Hz. I also made sure NVIDIA app is configured correctly. I just don't know what else to do. I even bought the Steam and Ubisoft Plus versions of the game, but the same issue persists. at this point, I have no doubt that something is not right with the mod, it has a resolution conflict with the desktop display. There are a few other people with the exact same issue on the Flat-to-vr lr-avatar forum. Here is the link to the Ubisoft+ RealVR64.log. I hope you can figure out what is going on. Thank you so much. if you want to look at the steam version let me know. https://pastebin.com/SF9gXV9z

Brandon(Post Maester)

Can you try moving the game window manually with your mouse? That fixes the PPD slider not working for some people in Spiderman Remastered. Just for clarity, you move the PPD slider and hit the adapt resolution button and it does nothing?

Salvador jimenez

Yes, of course. I hit the "adapt resolution" button many times and also tried moving or resizing the windows manually. Did you check the Pastebin file? I would think that something is wrong with my PC, but games only look bad with Luke Ross mods. 2D and native VR games look amazing, so something is wrong with the mod.

Help! Avatar now only starts in 2D (G2 Steam version) I first suspected a runtime error because I played DCS after a long break and that's the reason why I use Open Compostit, OpenXR + Toolkit. I normaly only have to deactivate the toolkit for any other REAL game and change the API as needed. CP2077 for example runs with both. But in genreral i prefer OXR if possible because of better performance. Avatar was always a bit tricky to start in VR (in contrast to CP e.g.) I suspected the Ubisoft loading stuff? I also can´t remember the used API for AFOP but i remember sometimes a bit WIN+Y, Alt+Tab... WMR stuff... to get it on my G2. Steam always started automatically, but not SteamVR itself, this had to be off anyway, but then it worked like a charm! Now nothing works anymore. I've tried it >20 times swiching the 2 runtimes via "OpenComposit runtime switcher" and checked in SteamVR/Settings/OpenXR. Either SteamVR or WMR(G2) nothing kicks VR in. I don't know what to do anymore. New 17.0.. RealConfig.bat.. Keep/Delete... only 2D (sound goes to HMD)! My G2 remains trapped in the WMR house or SteamVR house (although it didn't start from the SteamVR environment before either (see above).

Brandon(Post Maester)

Don't use SteamVR, just set WMR as your OpenXR runtime and use OpenXR. Check the game settings and make sure the display settings are correct. Also make sure you don't have frame gen or any settings like that turned on. If you want to put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link here, I can take a look.

Ganesh

Thank you Maestro 🙏🏼I thought that "D" deleting the settings would erase them all. but yes, I'll check again in 2D to make sure everything is right.

Yort

Hi! I just downloaded the mod to use for AFOP for the first time. I unblocked the folder and put the files in the executable’s folder then ran the config file like in the video, but when I connect my headset and launch the game it just stays in the questlink environment and only plays the sound through the headset. I'm using a Quest 2 and I have AFOP on Ubisoft. I tried using WMR like in another comment but it's deprecated in my windows version.

Brandon(Post Maester)

It is usually a good idea to post in newer comment sections :) Any luck figuring it out? Have you tried launching the game from your monitor as well as from inside the headset. Some people have better luck doing either of those specifically for some reason. How is your Quest 2 connected? You are not using SteamVR at all right?

Yort

Hi thank you for the reply! I haven’t managed to figure it out yet. I’m not using steamVR at all. I have tried launching the game from both my monitor and from the headset but both have the same result. My quest is connected with meta questlink and I’ve tried both airlink and cable. I’m using openXR with meta questlink as my runtime as WMR doesn’t work on windows 11.

Yort

SCRATCH THAT EVERYTHING WORKS. 10/10 BEAUTIFUL. Apparently I just had to mess with some settings in the openxr app. It wasn’t using the latest version and it said that would be incompatible because WMR was not supported. I turned that on anyways and it worked!! Thanks for the help though!

Brandon(Post Maester)

OpenXR app? If you are using a Quest with a cable or air link, you want to use Oculus runtime and that is what it should default to in the REAL overlay if the runtime is set to auto. Even if you are using something like Virtual Desktop, you would want to use VDXR but still use Oculus runtime. You can use OpenXR runtime, but it causes issues for people sometimes and Oculus should be the go-to without having OpenXR running over the top of it. But hey, if it is working, then it is working :) Most important thing is you can play and enjoy :)

I went through this guide and still having trouble .. what did I miss! My Vive Pro on 5090 through Steam VR is locked at 40fps in this mod. Vsync on, off, no matter, all 40FPS. Frame rate limit on, off, no matter, all 40fps. Setting the VR resolution through overlay, anywhere between 1024px and 2800px are all 40fps. Changing video settings with DLSS Performance through Quality, 40fps. Setting graphics quality between Low and Ultra, 40fps. Legacy AER? Half refresh? Third refresh? Mono? All 40fps. When using a mid setting of "High", FpsVR shows my GPU usage at around 40%, CPU at around 30%. Still only 40fps. Setting lowest possible settings, GPU goes as low as 30%, still only 40fps. Setting Unobtanium and DLAA, I can get the FPS to drop to around 30fps. But even then, both CPU and GPU usage are around 50-60%. Everything looks gorgeous and perfect, but 40fps is too low to be playable. In Star Wars Outlaws, same system gets around ~80fps at max settings. What am I missing in the setup of this game!?

Brandon(Post Maester)

40fps seems like a really odd number to be locked at. Is your headset set to 90hz? 120hz? Are you using the latest Nvidia driver? If so, you could try rolling back one. Seems to be lots of driver issues lately. They just released another driver a couple days ago with some fixes.

Ryan Thompson

It’s weird, right? Why 40? Can’t get my head around it. Headset is 90hz. Same results with 1/2 and 1/3 and Legacy AER. Latest hot fix nVidia driver is installed, but it was the same with the latest full release.

Ryan Thompson

Found a workaround for the 40fps limit: my primary monitor is 60hz, but if I switch my primary monitor to 120hz, the fps jumps up to 70-90 depending on scene. VSync is definitely off, confirmed as iPresentInterval=0 in config file. No Afterburner/RTSS frame sync settings. No forced vsync in nVidia Control Panel. Yet, if 60hz limits to 40fps, shouldn't 120hz limit to 80fps? No: it hits 90 just fine in various scenes. Any ideas on how the display refresh rate could be affecting the game performance, even with vsync disabled?

Hello, I downloaded everything smoothly but now its just crashing my game, are there any directs to uninstall the mod? I'm getting worried I've caused some serious damage here. Thank you.

Carlo Pezzano

i have the same problem, did you a way to unistall it

Destin

Hello, new subscriber, I've installed the mod for Cyberpunk 2077 and have spent several hours tweaking things trying to find the sweet spot. The problem I'm having is that no matter what setting I change, everything is very pixelated and there's excessive ghosting beyond what's typical. It's less noticeable with 1/2 over 1/3 but still very much there. I've adjusted every resolution setting, ever render option, and kept graphic settings on Low in game for the sake of finding the setting that will fix my clarity. I'm using an older CPU which may be my issue (Intel Core i7-9700K) but using a 5070 TI which should be able to handle the graphic load. Pairing this with a Quest 2 using USB link cable. I'm looking for additional settings I should try in the Oculus Link settings (currently using 72hz) My FPS in game doesn't seem to drop below 45-50 except for a bit of stuttering when turning fast. I'm currently reinstalling the game and the mod to see if there's some odd configuration I had setup without knowing

martin nagy

Does anyone have an issue with "double crosshair in Avatar? I am using latest REAL v22.

Sam Strom

Any tips on uninstalling? My game keeps crashing, I'd rather go back to flat. I uninstalled from steam and re-downloaded, but that didn't work...

michael 613

Hi Luke, I just downloaded the latest v16.0.1 build for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The ZIP I got only includes openvr_api.dll, cudart64_110.dll, RealConfig.bat, and RealRepo — but there’s no d3d11.dll. Without that file the game only launches flat. Could you please confirm if d3d11.dll should be included in this build or if it’s generated differently now? Thanks a lot for your amazing work!

Salvador jimenez

i have the 4090 gpu and 9800x3d cpu with the exact same issue

Brandon(Post Maester)

Can you put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link here?

Brandon(Post Maester)

You are using version 16 which is outdated for Avatar. Some of the patches are not applying. I don't know what version had the last Avatar fix. Do you have any versions more recent than 16? Remember you need to run the config file again if you drop in a different version of REAL.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Try with version 25 and then give me a link to a log file again after. I'm driving out to see my Gramps for the day, but I will check back when I get home tonight.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Hmmmmm, I'll have to check tomorrow to see what the last one that works with Avatar is. Hopefully a version will be back up not to far in the future here. Now that the poll is over 🤞

i need some help i got the mod to work for the most part but it studders realy badly and im not sure what i did worng

BlessLegend

i need some help when i look to the left or the right the video seems to be sligthy dealyed giveing my black bars how do i fix it

Brandon(Post Maester)

It is a good idea to comment under one of the newer posts further up, that way it gets seen :) First try lowering the "reduce shaking" slider in the main tab of the REAL overlay. Hopefully that helps enough. If not, then it is either low performance, high latency, or a combo of those plus the FOV optimizations. There are two FOV optimizations in the main tab of the REAL overlay. They keep the game from rendering beyond your headsets FOV, which saves you performance and improves image quality. You can disable the Hfov optimization if all else fails, but it will cost you some performance. What rendering mode are you using?

Marosh Bruno

Hi Brandon. I have this game on ubisoft launcher but it doesn't start in the headset (og pimax crystal). Any ideas why? Thanks in advance...

Brandon(Post Maester)

Some people were having an issue with it not starting and they had to disconnect Ubisoft from the internet to get it starting properly. Not sure if that is still a thing or not. If you put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and link it here, I'll take a look.

Marosh Bruno

All right thanks. You mean disconnect the whole computer from internet? Or just ubiplay? How you do that?

Marosh Bruno

I tried to unplug the ether et cable but it didn't work. The game starts and I can see the real vr menu but then immediately crashes to desktop.

Bernd Busch

I know this is really long ago, but perhaps Brandon is strill looking. I have the issue that with the latest public patch, the intro and the menu render prefectly in VR, but once I go int he game I only see a square with the game and like double vision - not VR. I have a 32:9 1440p monitor and canÄt access all of the overlay, as my mouse seems to be constraint by the portion my monitor can display and it only shows 2/3rd of the real overlay :( And ideas?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Try setting a 16:9 Aspect Ratio with your monitor. What headset and how is it connected if not DP?

Bernd Busch

Wow, thanks so much for the quick answer! Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop! Will try later today when I’m back at the computer!

Brandon(Post Maester)

OK, make sure you are using VDXR in the streamer app and oculus runtime in the REAL overlay. Or that Auto is reporting it is using Oculus there. No SteamVR at all. Also no ASW

Bernd Busch

I can't change resultion, it's fixed to 32:9 - my Monitor. But I've played a bit it keeps switching between full VR and a fixed double vision square in front of me, have not found a pattern. Level 1 not yet reached the ourside. Have set VD to VDXR. Menu is in fullVR, but the actual gameplay is fluctuating between the 2 modes for some reason.

Brandon(Post Maester)

You can't change resolution in the Nvidia control panel or app? Also double check your game settings vs the video. Does it say you are using Oculus runtime in the REAL overlay main tab at the top? It should tell you what it is using, even if auto is selected.

Blade007700

Hi, Which key or key combination opens the VR mod menu or overlay in AFOP?

Blade007700

Thanks. Since I don't have a PAUSE key, I chose F2. I did have to reload the files, though. Now, however, the question is how to turn off the controls (movement, aiming, Ikran) linked to the headset (motion controls)—perhaps so I can look around without the aiming HUD.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Head aiming with the headset is an integral part of how REAL VR works. It only gets disabled if you are using a 3d TV/Monitor. There is a way to do that manually (I forget how) but it isn't worth it with a headset because it breaks things terribly.
