Joël Querci

Hi! Exactly, I saw the publicity yesterday and I think you inspired somebody here!!! But still, if I can’t play it in my house it is not of your level of greatness!!! Love you Luke!!! ❤️

Drew

Shocker! Which came first the chicken or the egg, successful development of vr mod by talented and competent but independent developers or are we meant to believe it was always in the pipeline by the games developers. Personally, I'm skeptical, I think this is reactionary. Keep up the excellent work Luke

Brentwahn

Hahahaha well tbh it's better than no reason other than "legal"!

Janaka Cooray

Groan... After all that...Well I'm still playing cyberpunk in VR anyway.. thanks for the experiences you've given us Luke.. and here's to hoping you enjoy Crimson Desert enough to take it on someday (giggle)!

Jon Kemp

All because they plan to release a 30 minute experience at a vr Cafe? Seems a bit rude

Daniel

Copy Paste

Mika Eel

Makes sense...

Ángel Moreno Alcalá

It seems this is the dirty reason. The developers only want money; the players don't matter. This experience is nothing compared to your hard work.

flobv

Is it free ? Or behind a paywall ?

Mike PETER

If CD Project had not did what they did, I will be, once again, thinking this team is really thinking about players because they are working to have a VR version of their flat games while no other devs will never bother to do that because not viable economically. But as I know what they did, I start to wonder if they had the idea themselve or if they stole the idea (and maybe the work also) of someone that did the thing they was not willing to do.

Skaparadise

They should communicate around this. Not fair...

Tyler

CALLED IT!!!!

Matt

After couple of posts about it, I don't remember any more, what is happening in the end for LukeRoss RealVR for CP2077? Is it totally out of the picture? Sorry for the dumb question, must have been mentioned already somewhere. BTW, another question, I know there is a VR support for Kingdom Come II , but would the first one be supported too? ;)

Nir A

disingenuous idiots

Adzy

Zero Latency sucks. It's got nothing on high end PCVR.

Dannon Gruver

I have same question for both. Hoping the answers yes on KCD1 & Luke’s just giving CP2077 time to cool down.

Cercata

It's very nice, short room-scale VR experices that can open the appetite for VR at home to many people !!!!

Cercata

It's onlocation paid experience, you go there and user their equipment, It's not available for download. Por people with PCVR it's not worth it, it's a 15min experience with room escale locomotion, at home it would be underwhelming. But for going with flat friends it's perfect, they don't get sick.

Cercata

At least they something in VR ...

Steve B

To be fair, zero latency was good when I went with a few mates who hadnt tried VR. But there's no reason why both REAL mod and this can't exist in the same world

Cercata

Yeah, it's different markets ... maybe your mates will want the R.E.A.L. experience after this XD

Alan Batsford

April fools, right? Except... the joke's on us...

Adzy

Yeah good point. Personally I've been to it 3 times and was underwhelmed every time. But if it brings more people to VR then that's great!

Steve B

Out of 6, 3 of them came to try my setup out, one got a quest 3 and hated the ecosystem and dumbed down graphics (doesn't have a decent PC), one got a second hand PSVR, and one is building up a PC slowly and waiting for pimax

Eric Goodman

Ahhh yes, another bunch of short sighted corporate geniuses protecting their exclusive, multi-billion dollar baby. 🙄 I was at the Zero Latency in Tampa last year…it was dead. I hope this vision works out for them…These two things certainly don’t have to be mutually exclusive…they can coexist. Supporting you always Luke.

Anthony Woods

I dont want to leave my house and pay to play it at a VR arcade. When I've got my own VR and was already playing it in VR at home. They so lame for this ngl

flobv

I know. I was a rethorical question, obviously :) Considering that they complained about CP2077 VR from Luke being behind a paywall, and thus against ToS.

Jon Kemp

Thats like saying atleast blizzard released a mobile game rather than nothing. I remember the backlash when they released Diablo immortal. Someone asked if it was a joke. It wasn't.

tennenbaum

I will support. Good to see your latest activities, Luke and Brandon!

Ryan Tucker

Lol. How many hundreds of hours did I put into CP2077 VR again?

Tiger Man

it's a different story, we play the original game in vr with a joypad, single player, that is a multiplayer experience in full locomotion, in a game that doesn't even have multiplayer at first, and where the lore or whatever related to the game has minimal impact on the experience, i mean it can be Doom or Peppa Pig, what's the point? will you immerse yourself in Night City and feel the game in a 1000 or whatever it is square feet room ? will you drive and talk with npc? in 15 minutes ? If this is the reason they're blind af

VRt

Michael McCormack

Honestly what sort of competition would these two products have? If anything they could create synergy.. so personally, I don't understand the attitude in that office.

Rafael Rodriguez

Mate I was just about to send you this in your email....

Drake Woodring

Just to be snarky, I think you have the same case to sue zero latency then projekt red had to sue you.

Eduardo Robles

These people at CD Projekt RED are complete idiots. This would be like banning DVDs years ago just because movie theaters exist. Clearly, there are fools everywhere. I really didn't like the sentence in the article that mentions you: "It should be noted that an unofficial mod was removed earlier this year when the developer decided to profit from it." It sounds very derogatory, and whoever wrote it must be very misinformed. Best regards.

STORM3D4LIFE

Funny how CD Projekt RED is busy working on The Witcher 4… Meanwhile, over here please bring some magic to Crimson Desert VR mod 😉

Pete

I guess they were trying to neuter Luke's mod to stop comparison with their new VR thing. Because a Cyber Punk-style VR experience isn't comparable at all to full immersion in the real game. This whole thing has soured CDPR to me, when I was such a fan

aLion

Possibly. Take the high road though, throwing mud doesn't help future prospects even if this stemmed from corporate suit nonsense.

Kai Posadowsky

It's just complete different environment. Both could exist without any negative impact on the other. If this really was or is the reason behind their so called legal basics, it's just silly stupid

AaronCLS

make big mad game about corpos being complete aholes ... proceed to be complete aholes IRL

Billy Bloggs

Disappointing on so many levels. So they DO have an interest in VR after all. But just not for their actual customers who are asking for VR.

Iso

And to be clear, what they do is not Cyberpunk 2077 the game, it is a game like mini-experience, that is multiplayer IN the cyberpunk 2077 universe. So they probably gave them assets and have a small environment setup, with things geared towards a real world to VR overlay experience with mostly PVP style combat between experience participants. So Luke, I think the issue is you didn't offer to cut them a check for $2 million or whatever they paid for the rights to do the experience, plus some percentage going forward and agreement around publicity and advertising. Then the Corporate money types got involved, and part of the agreement probably required that they put the Kabosh on the Real Add-in 3D driver (NOT Mod.. lol) that happens to support the Cyberpunk game, because part of the agreement included exclusive rights to VR experiences within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, in exchange for the check that paid CDProject Red for the rights. Am I playing psychic well enough and giving a good guess?

Iso

It's not an interest in VR, it's a money person looking to add to the stable of monetized Cyberpunk 2077 IP, which lately seems to be everything under the sun (some of it yes, quite good, but some of it just plain head scratching money grubbing. "Space balls, the lunch box!")

John Shepard

They were worried their VR arcade deal will get less attention if Luke’s VR mod stays available. Cut all the possible $$$ leaks. But people who visit VR arcades usually go for the social experience, not for serious VR. So banning Luke’s mod feels about as logical as shutting down ABC stores to help bars sell more drinks. It just does not make much sense. After this, my view of CDPR as a developer has definitely worsened. Still, money changes how people and companies behave. It pushes them to make choices they might not otherwise make.

Iso

I honestly think it's part of the "IP Monetization" department, or whatever they call it, and it's gotten so out of hand that they're not doing day to day approvals or reality checks. It sucks, but from the money perspective, someone cut them a check and gave them a cut, and I guarantee part of that deal required exclusivity. So I think the community may need to remind them a little bit that when you hand off things to the "Sales/Money" people, you're going to trash a bit of the good will of the community or even worse.

Cypren

I love how the article frames the RealVR DMCA bullshit as "an unofficial mod was taken down when the developer decided to cash in on it". That's about the level of intelligence and reporting quality I expect of the gaming press these days, unfortunately. Probably couldn't be bothered to do more than ask ChatGPT to summarize a headline.

Ratcat Nugile

There is also a farcry VR "experience" so you have to go to a location to be able to play it in VR which is what they are doing for CP. No thanks.

Darren Garkut

100s of hours of content in immersive VR vs a 1-3 hour experience - I mean, I can't imagine it's any longer than that when it's catered for beginners to VR as well - what with motion sickness etc. I know what I'd rather.

Darren Garkut

I swear on the grave stone of VR gaming, there will be named murderers; Facebook and CD Projekt Red; and people that tried resuscitating; Valve and Luke Ross.

Simplex

Did you try to contact CDPR and ask if they would leave you alone if access to REAL VR framework for cyberpunk was free? As far as I know, the free vorpx-based mod is still available, and free Project CyberpunkV mod on Nexus Mods is also available - so wouldn't CDPR also target those mods if their true purpose would be to "get rid of the competition"?

Chas Coppard

"Notably, an unofficial mod was taken down earlier this year when the developer decided to cash in on it." - you don't hate games journalists enough

Brandon(Post Maester)

I think the main issue/takeaway for me, is that they were willing to make some sort of deal or give their "permission" for a VR experience that is absolutely stuck behind a paywall. You don't have to own the game or support CDR directly in any way to have the experience, but they are fine with it. When Luke tried to get them to make some kind of deal or do something official years ago. But they wouldn't even respond to him. Not to mention the R.E.A.L framework automatically supports them with additional sales at 0 cost or effort to them. It is a pretty hard kick in the nuts really. CDPR is no longer worth supporting in my book. After this move, I am now against the idea of Luke even restoring CP access for free. Those are my personal thoughts on the matter 🤷‍♂️

Brozgar

So they make another cut-to-the-bones version of a decent game in order to then get disappointed with sales and claim that nobody cares about VR? What a great strategy!

Seve Eleven

Hi Brandon, in Days Gone the mouse cursor won't go above the HUD section in the REAL overlay so I can't access the DG tab or anything above the HUD. Please advise.

Seve Eleven

I use a gamepad. This looks like it will help. Thanks!

flobv

But can we make Luke forget about all this and add support for Witcher 3 ? For the fans and for the friends. After all, the things we do for our friends ...

flobv

It only works if I can teleport to that location.

Seve Eleven

I followed the instructions from your link and I was able to move and resize the REAL overlay with the keyboard but the controller commands for the PS5 controller didn't work. I'd bring up the REAL menu and holding square and moving the either the d-pad or left joystick did nothing in the REAL menu but it did affect the game as it normally would. Any ideas?

Brandon(Post Maester)

Maybe it is not reading input from the PS controller properly..... What game? Some games may need Steam Input enabled or disabled possibly. I haven't tested them all with a PS5 controller, I usually use an Xbox one. Are you running any input software like Ds4 or anything like that?

Void3008

What's stopping him from hosting a free version on GitHub tho , why not do that like GTA 5 , with a warning about game version required, the only way to get that mod now is pirating it

Seve Eleven

The game is Days Gone. I do have DS4 but I'm not using it for this game because there's a PS5 controller selection in the controller settings of the game. Steam Input is set to "use default setting" and "Steam Input Status" shows "Enabled, general setting" for Playstation.

Ken Knutson

Hey Brandon, is there any confirmation one way or the other if Luke plans to fix the gamepass version of KCD2? Its ok if not, would just kind of like to know one way or the other so I can decide whether to get it on Steam or hold off for Luke since its on gamepass. Thanks!

Simplex

Thanks for replying and being a pillar of this community. Considering how CDPR's actions traumatized Luke (I say that unironically), I totally understand if he never wants to touch any CDPR game ever again. While I can empathize with Luke, it would be a real shame, as they do make great games.

VRt

Brandon(Post Maester)

It looks like the OG post will update each time. It also looks like Luke will do a simple release announcement post for any new supported title though. So that release post will let you know there is an updated EA version attached to the same EA post.

flobv

Yes, it's a shame we can't have Witcher 3. Maybe in time Luke will forgive them and make a final act for his friends.

Joaquin - Manguevar Entertainment

Hello Brandon, here to bother you again with technical questions. As new high end headsets are coming out (such as the announced Pimax 12K which will have 6K resolution per eye) the Cyberpunk mod could really use Dynamic Foveated Rendering. Is that in Luke's To do list? Is it too hard to implement that on Cyberpunk or the REAL Mod to allow higher FPS?

lucia

Hi Luke, hello Brandon, I'd like to wish you a very Happy Easter, and on this occasion I'd like to ask our incredible Luke if he can work on Crimson Desert... if he could also put first person, I don't know if it's already an option in the game, that would be AMAZING! Thanks guys, you're amazing!

Pierre Della Rocca

Ghost of yotei and crimson would be insane in VR with REAL VR

Seve Eleven

You're right, it was the Steam Input setting. It turns out the game supports the PS5 controller so I disabled Steam Input and I can control the REAL overlay menu with the controller now. Thanks!

Brandon(Post Maester)

The REAL "framework" not mod 😉 Don't think Luke has any plans on supporting foveated rendering for now. Maybe if it becomes more common across headsets. And maybe if Pimax takes some steps to fix things on their end for better compatibility 🙃

william mumford

What do you mean? Spiderman and Ghost of Tsushima are playstation games

Brandon(Post Maester)

Ghost of Yotei isn't out on PC. Looks like Sony will not be porting it over either. They may not be porting over games to PC anymore unfortunately.

D S

If you want the skinny on foveated rendering with REAL VR I think it's this: Luke apparently did have foveated rendering working within his framework, but it wasn't providing significant performance gains. This makes some sense as instead of rendering two frames we have to get 4 frames (inner and outer for each eye). In order for it to be of beneift it had to provide 100% gains. Generally foveated rendering doesn't provide this level of improvement - however I think that was with fixed foveation. Perhaps with dynamic (eye tracked) foveation it would be able to be a little better - but having the Play for dream headset I've discovered that generally I still need the same level of foveation size to avoid being able to see the lack of resolution in my peripheral vision. The instances where foveation seems to be truly useful is when the renderer itself (the game) can skip certain re-doing things in each eye since they are shared (geometries and instancing). The R.E.A.L. framework doesn't really change the rendering pipeline and can't make such optimizations, so sadly there's not much chance that foveated rendering will work in general. An exception might be Nvidias VRSS, but I've tried employing that through OpenXRTolkit (OpenXR) as well as through an app called PimaxMagic4All (SteamVR) and neither one works. I've also tried an older mod that injected VRS in SteamVR from modder fholger - and it also doesn't work.

Brandon(Post Maester)

@DS, I think Luke said foveated rendering may provide something like an 8-10% performance boost. I don't know that he got it working with the framework, I'd guess not. If he did the work to get it working, it would make sense to include it at that point. I could be wrong though. It most likely wouldn't be substantial enough to put in a lot of work. Since people seem to use the Quest 3 overwhelmingly (at least according to the last poll) it wouldn't be worth supporting currently. I also don't think there is any way of getting VRS or VRSS to work ATM. I think people think it would give them more of an actual boost than it would :) What we actually need, is higher optimization standards to come back to the forefront. We need gaming companies with passionate Devs, not corporate types trying to streamline and deskill game development.

Joaquin - Manguevar Entertainment

So 10% for Quest 3. I imagine the day that 6K per eye Pimax headset comes out one could argue that Dynamic foveated rendering on cyberpunk could give 50/60% framerate boost? I'd love to have that if such case was given

Hoshi82

I know that's not gonna happen but a VR mod for Planet Coaster 2, just for the park exploration part in 1st person would be so amazing. I got some user parks and it's impressive what some can build.

Brandon(Post Maester)

No, I think that was a general 8-10% estimate. The point being that foveated rendering will not give anything near a 50-60% boost. I actually think it makes more sense to just have a smaller but decent fov at high resolution over trying to finagle extra performance by lowering the quality of the peripheral vision. The Dream Air looks like a step in the right direction. No clue what the fov of the Pimax 12k is going to be. Looking it up, it looks quite large. That is just going to be a performance problem.

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yeah, they raised the price of the PS5 pro again. It is up to $899 now! I don't even know that it will make sense to release consoles for much longer though. Be very interesting to see what the video game industry looks like in another 5-10 years.

Philipp Spiecker

I do need help. I cant find the info file needed to realrepo.exe. Question: Is it possible to add a rightwards turn via looking aat a given angle to the side. I am currently using my paralyzed thumb.=)

Brandon(Post Maester)

I don't know what you mean by finding the file needed to realrepo.exe??? Are you getting an error when running the config file or something? For the second part, I don't know of any way of adding that currently without Luke doing something to add it to the framework somehow. You could use Steam Input or in game settings to try and get creative with button/controller mapping. Some games, the character will walk slightly in the direction you are looking, which could be helpful, but it won't turn that direction. The problem with adding something like, looking right at a given angle, is that people look around a lot in VR. So, it would probably cause issues where people end up turning when they don't want to. Those are my initial thoughts 🤷‍♂️ Some games, you may be able to turn your chair that direction and then aim/ADS. That would turn the character that direction.

Philipp Spiecker

Thank you for the reply. I saw this on RotoVR and wondred if this is easy to do. Necksafer gives an 60degree angel by default, but simply doesnt work. Just FYI. Am I able to pin the hud to my field of view. That would basically solve my issue as well.=)

Brandon(Post Maester)

What game? Some games, you can use the HUD sliders in the game tab of the REAL overlay to adjust the HUD size. Some older supported titles that don't have those, you can try the Aiming HUD slider.

Brandon(Post Maester)

We don't really offer support for CP anymore. Try using the Aiming HUD slider. The HUD should headlock when aiming as well, so hopefully that will shrink it down some for you. There is also a mod called Huditor that allowed you to move and resize widgets, not sure if it still works these days. Check on nexus and look at the posts section to see if it is still working.

Philipp Spiecker

Thank you my friend. Take a look at RotoVR. Its a motorized chair that spins 360 degrees and moves in the exact same way, by watching far enough to the side. Its crazy.=)

Val Salia

Seeeriously; right now there's an absolute ton of people waiting to see if Luke, Mutar, or Praydog will be the one to give us 1st person Crimson Desert. I'm hoping it's Luke, as REALVR's efficiency and speed is just a lot better than the other options

lucia

Yes, me too.....Luke is incredible! I've read some reviews of Crimson Desert criticizing its vastness and the fact that there are no signs..........well that's what I love! Just to finish the main story of RDR2 it took me 320 hours and I still can't stop wandering around the map! So C.D., first person would be perfect for me...ok, bye

Sir Pawn

A VR mod of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart would be cool.

Alessandro D'Amico

Hi guys, but is the survey for the next games around?

Brandon(Post Maester)

No, Luke doesn't usually do surveys for games. You can just throw out suggestions if you have them. If something gets a lot of suggestions, he will sometimes give it a go.

Iris Magee

Anyone happen to have the version of the framework from before all the Changes? I have a game that will only work with that version.

Alessandro D'Amico

Listen, but do you know if Space marine 2 is impossible to do?

Brandon(Post Maester)

I tried listening, but all I could hear was my wife and daughter 🤷‍♂️ I don't think Space Marine 2 is something Luke would usually do, but if lots of people request it...... ya never know. I definitely think it would be a blast to play in VR :)

chiefwiggum

Would love to see crimson desert in future, would look incredible with built in first person mode 🙏

Sabine G.

I already bought it with the high hopes of getting a VR mod. :D If not, well then I wasted some money.

Riskyshrimp

Hi all, really been enjoying KCD2 and has been fantastic experience so far with the exception of some immersion breaking distance foliage pop in and flicker. Is there any solution at all to fix this as I have tried numerous CFG fixes and mods to no avail. On the surface it seems like an easy fix with some distance draw settings but I am stumped. What confuses me is that i have seen videos of VR gameplay without this pop in. I have 5090 and all settings are ultra. Not game breaking but still annoying. Anyone here with similar issues?

Jason Nobilucci

(SIGH) looks like we are NOT getting a Flat2VR versions since CDPR has already made the GREEDIEST CORPO MOVE POSSIBLE, VR arcade "EXPERIENCE" what a load of crap

Brandon(Post Maester)

Yup, why a limited location-based experience gets their "permission", while a full VR experience from the comfort of your own home does not, is beyond me.

Jason Nobilucci

I know right now available in LAS VEGAS everyone else SOL

Melvin Gundlach

And both can exist at the same time. CDPR just said that the VR mod had to be free with donations instead of paid upfront.

Melvin Gundlach

You could still make the VR mod for Cyberpunk free with donations. So what’s your point?
