Blink and you'll miss an update or two (now ENHANCED) (Patreon)

[New information added August 26]
So, our beloved https://store.steampowered.com/app/3321460/Crimson_Desert/ got a major update , and with the occasion the game jumped to a nice round 2.00.00 version number. You can go to our usual place to download the new early access release of R.E.A.L. (v2608.26.2) which will allow you to keep playing this delightful experience in VR.
There's also a huge new release of DLSS/Ray Reconstruction by NVIDIA that brings RR up to version 4.5 (preset F). Performance hasn't really changed, so a powerful card is still needed to be able to feast on all that eye candy. But at more or less the same fps, what we're getting is a plethora of amazing improvements in image quality. I asked Brandon's permission to quote him directly on this matter:
"I'd say it is a major improvement across the board really. I don't see the same smeary lighting issues or grainy shadows in places. Even using DLSS balanced, it looks fantastic. It is hard to find any shimmering, ghosting or lighting artifacts when using upscaling now."
"And the water! Way less shimmering on the water when you are up close too!"
"And that awful DLSS ghosting on moving objects is almost non existent!!! Birds, leaves, I didn't even notice any really. It is actually quite amazing. Could still be some in some instances, I didn't go check out the fireflies or confetti.
This is the first time I would actually go the RR route despite the resolution drop honestly. It looks absolutely beautiful. And you don't have to sacrifice too hard because it still looks that way using upscaling."
A technical note: the new DLSS/RR library is not officially out yet, so just updating the game won't get you the bells and whistles. You need to use something like DLSS Swapper to force the new Preset F, which comes with version 310.7.129 of the dll. Or if you use the NVIDIA App to override the game choices, be sure that you have activated the "Opt in to access Beta or experimental features" checkbox, otherwise the latest version won't be available.
Again, thanks to Brandon for helping me sort that out.
So what are you waiting for? If you haven't yet started your playthrough of CD, or if you have been distracted by the many other games we can play in VR these days, this might be the perfect moment to dive in!
[Original post follows]
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3321460/Crimson_Desert/ got two more official patches, and guess what? VR support was broken.
I fixed it now, and Brandon tested it super thoroughly!
You can safely update the game to version 1.18.02, which I hope will remain current at least for today, and then install my new early access release v2608.17.2 from the usual place. Remember that you need to rerun RealConfig after unpacking the archive and overwriting the old files.
Besides restoring VR functionality, I also fixed the crosshair in CD. It will now be drawn at the correct depth (in contact with the surface you're going to hit) instead of somewhere in the middle between your eye and the hit point. I have no idea how long this bug had been there, maybe even from the beginning? It didn't keep you from aiming correctly, but it made the crosshair look slightly doubled. Anyway, it's working properly now.
Also, I was asked to extend the PPD slider to support resolutions up to 50 pixels per degree. It was an easy change, but you will only get the extended range it you can prove that you are a power user, because it's very likely that hitting those extreme pixel densities will make the game you're playing overcommit VRAM and grind down to a halt, possibly bringing the whole system down with it. Hint: one way to show that you are a power user is by manually adding the line ExpertMode=1 to the [RVR] section in the RealVR.ini file before launching the game. It needs to be done separately for each game where you want the extended upper limit. Also, power users don't complain when their adventurous decisions get them in trouble; they just reboot and keep on tinkering []-D
Enjoy!!
