This is my first attempt at a) brevity (failed) and b) a different format of video because I wanted to do something different on Trent's birthday. I enjoyed making it but I can't tell if it's a good video so at the very least, Patrons, enjoy! I may make it public later tonight.

This is sort of like "9 NIN songs that I really like or really love that I don't hear people talking about much and I think they deserve more attention and credit. But from a composer's perspective, not in terms of lyrics, narrative, etc., just the stuff I really get excited about - harmony, rhythm, production, and texture.

9 Nine Inch Nails tracks that deserve an even deeper listen // composer's perspective

Happy birthday Trent Reznor! The following title would be more accurate: "My thoughts on 9 NIN songs that I really like/love that I don't hear people talking about much and I think they deserve more attention and credit - from a composer's perspective, less in terms of lyrics or cultural impact, more in terms of the stuff I really get excited talking about like harmony, rhythm, production, and texture." But that was a little too long. SHOUT OUT to my Patrons Travis Hyde and Etvid for helping me name this video! Clever devils...🙏 BTW "Even Deeper" is in this category for sure but I wanted to highlight some of Trent's newer works for his bday and ran out of slots. Actually there are about 40 others in this category so, more of these maybe? ___________ PATREON - exclusive videos, sheet music, livestreams, discounted lessons: https://www.patreon.com/iximusic BUY ME A LIPSTICK: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/iximusic FOLLOW me on Instagram: @ixi.music WATCH my deep dive NIN harmonic and rhythmic analysis videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH036NNMYMw&list=PLn_Xar3I0ZoBekweW27w_hVQxbfHntzyB SPOTIFY: http://open.spotify.com/artist/59lLMFeXn19B8PuUBEdYKT ___________ SPECIAL BIG PIG THANK YOU to my Piggies! I think you have a line about HMIAIH being the only instrumental on Broken… but Pinion is also an instrumental.

ixi music

Ah dang, you're right. I can take that out

Travis Hyde

9 songs that deserve a DEEPer listen.

ixi music

Ooh! You know I love them puns...

Sam Patterson

Brevity fails are the best kind 😆 Shocked that TLBTB is not talked about much. It is so, so amazing. I also realized I didn’t give Add Violence much attention, so I’m going to have to go back and and give it a listen.

Etvid

Travis beat me to that one...I was thinking "Even Deeper into NIN"

Brian

I guess it is time to crank up Pilgrimage before I get back to the work I sat aside to watch this video.

Etvid

"Trent's Birthday Playlist"

ixi music

You and Travis joined forces to create the best title! Thank you :)

ixi music

Haha I can always trust my Patrons don't mind my brevity fails ;) I also really love "The Lovers" on Add Violence. And "Less Than" seems to be a fav amongst many. Solid song!

ixi music

Travis you helped name this video! I gotta think of a reward. But for now you have my enthusiastic thanks here and in the video description! ♥️

Travis Hyde

Being a part of a community where NIN puns are accepted and encouraged is very satisfying. Very glad to have helped =)

The universal tragedy in six words: “I thought we had more time”

Maze

I loved this video. I’ll admit, if a song doesn’t have great lyrics, I tend to forget about it. You really got me back into some songs I haven’t listened to in years. Thanks so much🤗

ixi music

My pleasure! That's what we're here for - cross-inspiration :) How do you feel about instrumentals? Are you able to connect without the lyrical component?

Maze

I'll admit, I'm not much a fan of instrumental songs. For example, I think the Ghosts albums are beautiful, but after listening to an album, I won't go back to it for several months. That's why your videos are great - you see the beauty of songs that I tend to ignore. That way I can enjoy things I wouldn't have otherwise :)

A.David Silverman

I look forward to more in this series. Perhaps a "9 Deep Cuts from Trent's Film score discography"?

ixi music

I'm creating an exclusive video like this for Patrons! The vote was for remixes, but film scores could be next perhaps. I have a lot of research to do :)

A.David Silverman

Well, since I'm throwing out ideas... and since you're so good at what you do, I'd love to hear your thoughts on how Trent's song writing has changed throughout his career? Pick 'x' amount of songs, focus on one element, like Harmony and show us how he's either changed or not. Put on the 'Ixi" magic, as it were. And at some point, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on "How To Destroy Angels" the band he has/had with his wife (I think their output was mainly between NIN's The Slip and Hesitation Marks.) How are they different from NIN?

Bryan Dych

This was great, excellent choices and a few of the newer tracks i was not totally up to speed on yet.

ixi music

Wooo! That's what I like to hear. You all have opened my ears to a lot of NIN I'd never heard so I'm happy to return the favor.
