^ This was the version of me that produced trance! Occasionally I get requests to share that music and I'm going to share it with those that are ready to hear and I'm actually pretty excited about it! I was so in love with this genre at the time and if there are still ears for this stuff, maybe I'll release some of it.

WHEN: Friday June 11 @ 1:00pm CST

UPDATED LINK: https://youtu.be/TJLmvsabNSM

It's mostly melodic trance but I dabbled in some psytrance, garage, and house, then moved on to downtempo and psydm (?). I'm open to playing you some of my classical music from college, too.I started with Techno eJay (99% samples), then moved to Acid Pro (80% samples) w/ MIDI controller, and then Reason (100% original).

Looking forward to hear that and share some stories! I was myself very much into Psy, Goa but also into Tekno (with K, 180bpm, hardcore oriented). So much stories to tell.. a quick highlight: I released 8 vinyl records in France under the aka spiralheadz. Zero music theory involved at the time but so much fun. Crazy times.

I look forward to this. I started programming music in the late 90s/early 00s, originally I was trying to do industrial but somehow it morphed into House with 4-part Baroque style harmonies on top of the 4x4 beat. I put out two albums, played in a few bands, recorded/produced other people and learned a lot despite the fact that I've "disowned" a lot of that old material. I wrote a lot of lyrics in that 10 year period as well. From 2011 until this past year I largely restricted myself to solo piano for my own meditations. But in the events of the last year and a half I somehow found a new way to look at my past experiences and combine them with a renewed vigor to express myself. It's been in that light that I found your channel and reexamined NIN. Plus I really been hit the books over the winter on music theory, because I have a fascination with Pythagoras and the origins of our tuning system and the more esoteric/out there aspects of music. So that's my strange journey. haha - Jerry

Dude that sounds cool. If there's a track from that era you feel particularly fond of, will you consider submitting it to the Patreon showcase?

Yeah definitely sounds like a lot of fun! I Oh and thanks so much for the Hell Me I Am In Hell transcription for piano! Going to print it out and give it a try. : )

oh boy Reason! ahahah. I believe my first encounter with trying to make electronic music was a ReBirth demo :) I would try to come up with some fancy loop in 30min and then I would just leave it playing (because the demo version only allowed for 30 min). I didn't even had a computer back then, so I had to nag one of my cousins lol. Later came Fruity Loops and Reason. Great times!

Sneaky! What do you use now, mostly? I still use Reason, but also Logic.

João Veiga

Reason is my go-to software. I never got used to other ones for -- well -- some reason. Ended up writing a few tunes that used to be on MySpace (lol ikr...). That gave me the opportunity to actually record some of the stuff in a proper studio with a well known Portuguese producer (from Madredeus. Amazing band btw). Unfortunately the guy was a jerk and shrugged us off because "we were not how he had imagined". Oh well!
