I was busy earlier and I guess missed the notification for the livestream! Sorry to have missed, but I’ll keep an eye out tomorrow! This was really great to watch a show for a band I’ve always loved. It took me back to the 90s! I was thinking.. there really wasn’t a way back then to see this kind of stuff unless they aired it on something like MTV or VH1? And then you needed to have cable.. great things about ‘the good old days’ but modern technology is pretty amazing too! The mosh pits were crazy back then! I hope Shaky Knees doesn’t get that crazy! 😬. I loved Eddie and the band’s energy for this concert and it was cool seeing the documentary. Side note.. I also have a Jesse! From the looks of your family photo your sons also have the same hairstyle as my Jesse, what I affectionately call the “alpaca floof’ ! 🤣

Thanks for adding Neutral Milk Hotel to the schedule. “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” is indie famous, but not super wide known by the general population. It’s had a huge impact on a couple decades of larger artists though.

Definitely listen to some more albums then check out the Pearl Jam Twenty doc. It has a lot of archival footage and touches on some of the more tumultuous and tragic parts of their career. It’s good context, particularly for their 90s albums.

I’m loving your dive into Pearl Jam. One of the fascinating things about them is seeing their evolution from angry young men running around the stage, into down-to-earth family men who became outspoken (especially Eddie Vedder) about politics, women’s rights, the environment, and humanitarian issues. Each of them, individually, is also involved with specific causes that are very important to them. They’re all actually really good people. To answer one of your questions, the group members were never involved with drugs, except for Mike McCready. Early on he struggled with addiction, and the other members basically gave him an ultimatum to get clean or he’d be out of the band. He went into rehab and has been clean ever since - for about 30 years at this point. Many PJ fans love the first few albums but stopped following them as they evolved and matured. They became so popular early on that they made a conscious decision to back away from the fame. Eddie Vedder was even stalked at one point. They basically stopped making videos after “Jeremy”, except for the brilliant “Do The Evolution”. They backed off from doing interviews for a long time, and didn’t care if their more experimental albums were as widely popular. They may have lost some fans, but they weren’t about becoming “rock stars”. It was the art of their music they cared about. At some point it would be a great idea to watch the 2011 Cameron Crowe documentary “Pearl Jam Twenty”, covering the first twenty years of the group.

I just joined! Been loving your reactions so far :) Leading up to Rockin' in the Free World, Eddie sings part of a Fugazi song (Suggestion) and he also sings part of a Talking Heads song (Pulled Up). As far as I know, Eddie was a pretty big fan of both of those bands!

Wow! Thank you for sharing all of this. I definitely have a lot of respect for them and their decision to pursue what they wanted to make.
