I love this movie, but always thought it was weird that Chris Evans talks about how they had to eat babies, etc, but then when he finds out they've been fed bugs, THAT'S when he freaks out. But then I think I remember reading that, originally, the discovery was that they were being fed the literal shit of the upper class? Someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that one, but it would make a lot more sense for his horrified reaction.

I love the movie, Bong Joon Ho is one of my favourite directors. There have been a lot of discussion about the fight in the cart with the axe-wielders. My take is, these are executioner masks. I also read somewhere, that for some mass executions caused by mobs, the executioner pre-blooded their weapons, so there is no evidence who actually caused the killing. (This is purely anecdotal, since I don't remember the source). The point of the polar-bear at the end is also to show that life is not extinct, a top-predator like a polar bear requires a whole ecosystem to exist.

I always thought they bloodied their weapons with the fish to cause infections in any non-fatal wound they might make.

If you never seen Charlie and the chocolate factory, you should, this is the unofficial R rated sequel

Eric Wilson

There is a YouTube video worth watching on how they connect. Definitely worth a watch.

Kamil Kydlicek

haha nice cameo of czech actress and line close the door in czech because this film was almost entirely film in czech republic

“This guy really looks like Tom Holland.” It’s funny you say that, George, because Jamie Bell first rose to fame for playing the title role in the movie Billy Elliott - a role that Tom would later play on stage in London when he was a kid. It was one of the first big breaks for both of them, playing that character. Also: highly recommend Billy Elliott. Great movie.

Jonah

why do I get 'scorcher IV: global meltdown' vibes from this movie cover. lmao

powerofdusk

great thumbnail as usual

Check out Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory next for some lore. 1971 version only though, not the Johnny Depp / Tim Burton abomination.

Jonny

You two would love Bright or The Platform!

This was directed by Bong Joon-ho who has made several really good films in Korea. I believe this was his first english language film. His most notable film is Parasite, which is simply phenomenal and is the only non-english language film to ever win best picture at the Oscars. I don’t think ya’ll have done it for the channel but I’d strongly, strongly recommend it.

pedantech

Man, I love Ed Harris. When are we going to get A Beautiful Mind on a poll?

Fathervon

Speaking of snow, you guys have to watch Society of the snow.

Henry Sanchez

Have you guys seen Parasite? Bong Joon Ho is a master

anna

calling jamie bell a discount tom holland is insane lol

Tony2012av

George it’s funny that you said that about Frost Punk because after watching this movie for the first time it definitely made me wanna play that again lol ❄️

Simon Pegged Me

A good companion film is Silent Running (1972).

I told you guys this one was a trip! Glad you liked it. Honestly, the first time I saw this I wasn't quite sure what to make of it for most of the runtime. But Evans' speech toward the end really tied the whole thing together for me. "I know what people taste like. I know babies taste best" is... one hell of a line. George calling Jamie Bell "discount Tom Holland" made me think of the new FX show Shogun. It's excellent and I highly recommend it. But the English speaking lead, Cosmo Jarvis (yes, that's the actors real name) is giving a performance that has me constantly thinking the phrase "Dollar Store Tom Hardy".(I mean this as a positive)

I thought you usually edit Simone's photo...

AJ Lynch

I saw a girl wearing a shirt that said Wilfor loves me and I was like huh? makes sense after watching this movie though

I understand the disgust about the bugs, even though it may not warrant as big a reaction as we see. The people KNEW that they had resorted to cannibalism, and they felt suitably guilty over it. They hated themselves, or made peace the act, or sacrificed parts of their own body to prevent it. Any way you look at it, their eyes were open and it happened under extreme duress 17 years ago. With the bugs, they ate it for YEARS. Never suspecting that there was anything wrong with their food beyond just the taste and texture. So to suddenly see that it is gross in its own way can be a big shock. Still not AS disgusting as their reactions made it out to be, but that can be ascribed to creative license. ....that, and it probably was meant to be waste in the first place.

Could you consider watching ZOOLANDER 2 ? Not as popular as the first one, but still damn funny in my opinion ! Will Ferrell as Mugatu is obviously amazing, and Derek is as dumb as expected... 😂

Middy

+1 for the TV show. I think I prefer it to the movie, simply because it goes so much deeper with lore and the mechanics of the train, which is quite a lot bigger (physically) than it is here. The line between good and bad is also significantly more blurry.

Aaron Gaspard

Daveed Diggs was in the TV series for snowpiercer, can you guys watch blindspitting (movie not TV series). Thanks!

MasterElodin

They said in the patreon version, that Simone hasn't and George has seen it. And from the way George sounded after finding out that she hasnt seen it, it is probably on their radar now

I find it interesting that I’ve only seen this movie once, in theater when it came out because my dad was interested, and I still remember *so much* about it, which to me is the mark of a unique movie. I don’t remember feeling good when I left the theater or thinking it was a great movie, but it was absolutely memorable.

If you want to see Chris Evans in another serious role, I can highly recommend "Sunshine" from Danny Boyle. One of his best acting roles I think. It's about a crew of astronauts flying to the slowly dying sun to re-ignite it ;) Beautiful movie!
