Breaking Bad: Season 4 - Episode 7 - 8 - Patreon Version

Ginger

I don't really have an answer to your question, as all your conversations are interesting. The only times I skip the intro is when I see that it's about 10-20 minutes long. ;) :p but that's rarely the case - "Clue" and "Monster's Inc" basically. (And yes, I feel kinda bad about it ^^)

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Boring topic eh? Well how about what it was like dishwashing, dish by dish? Without any substances to enhance the conversation I’d sleep within 3 minutes, possibly upright on my feet lol. Also “Hermanos” is one of the best episodes of the series - Giancarlo’s a boss!

JayF

Was this George's way of saying he wants to react to Sharknado?

Tenwyn

I work in insurance, trust me, it's boring. I think it has more to do with the person you're having a conversation with than with the topic itself. For example, i could probably listen to Dave Chappelle talk about insurance for an hour because he'll make it funny and interesting.

PIG

I have to shout out George on how's he's been so reliable over these years with this channel. I don't even have to check if BB is uploaded, I just KNOW IT IS when I'm driving to work. I know Simone and George split this channel 50/50 only because George says that Simone is the draw and he's the editor, but to be honest, if either George or Simone left I don't think I would find this channel so interesting. Something about how contrasting they are but how they also get along. Them reacting together is the draw, not individually.

DennisW

I've worked in the logistics industry, air cargo specifically. I can tell you about a bunch of common terms and conditions, which is pretty damn boring.

Deepan Nathan

Guys you went to episode 9 from 7 (and missed episode 8

droodly

Just to back-up the person above me, you skipped episode 8 and went to 9, and 8 is a pretty important backstory one.

Cinebinge

ah, my bad. the reaction is of episode 8, the video in the back is episode 9. an editing mistake, but we didnt watch the wrong one. so our reaction will sync to episode 8 itself. just the video in the back is incorrect. rendering a new video now.

Cinebinge

that was my bad. but the reaction is of episode 8, the video in the back is episode 9. an editing mistake, but we didnt watch the wrong one. so our reaction will sync to episode 8 itself. just the video in the back is incorrect. rendering a new video now.

Senec

I'm betting Gus pays in $50 bills because they're less likely to be tracked.

Socket Meyer

SO happy to hear it’s just a video mistake and not a missed viewing. Editing can be a tedious pain. Much appreciation for all the work ya do 🙂

Jeff K

I’m just now realizing the shirt that Jesse is wearing at Fring’s compound in Problem Dog looks like a sketch of George.

anna

I think it’s a Steve Aoki shirt but I could be wrong lol

N.A. Vreugdenhil

Agreed, they are one of the best reaction channels IMO. They are the first where I have watched reactions to things I'm not very interested in, just because I want to tune in to George and Simone's vibes. Most channels, I just watch the source content I'm interested in and enjoy the reactors along with it. Keep it up guys!

FWPJR.

My Tuesdays are always better when you two react to BB, can’t wait to watch this later.

FWPJR.

They definitely are the best and I’ve watched many and subscribe to a few on YouTube, but I only pay to watch full length reactions to these two. They are both awesome at what they do.

Jeff K

I choose to believe Jesse is a time traveler who went into the future to cop the latest CineBinge merch because he's just a really big fan of George and Simone.

Jeff K

Giancarlo Esposito is such a great actor. And it's positively wild how good he is at being intimidating, given he's a small (5-8), very slender man who, in interviews, is just the bubbliest person you've ever seen.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Don Eladio was played by Steven Bauer, Manolo in Scarface. His Mexican accent was not quite as good as his Cuban accent, but that's because he learned Spanish from his Cuban mom. I honestly never understood why the cartel killed the cook instead of Gus, made no sense. I guess just to show their arrogance, hence a grown man just pissing in the pool like it's a cool thing to do. That's one small criticism I have of the writing, the cartel is just a little too simple. That's why I really liked Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, truth really is stranger than fiction, and Pedro Pascal and Michael Peña were great.

Jeff K

To add to the Narcos love: and, Wagner Moura was spectacular as Escobar.

Senec

The guy Salamanca shot was absolutely Gus's love. They weren't actually brothers. They weren't living in an age where "out loud and proud" was a thing. Salamanca hinted at them being gay when he was peeing in the pool, saying they liked what they saw, and then the shot guy's use of the word partner, and his pleading.

PIG

Most dull subject? Sports in general. (though I do enjoy talking about UFC at least a bit)

Piep

Its very interesting to me that the former cook in Mexico was clearly using their product when you take a look at how Gus reacts to Jessy. First no dealings with addicts and now he keeps Jessy around and pulled him out of his destructive path. I guess i know what Gus sees in him...

Dan

You say that, but at my last job, we built commercial satellites that go into geosynchronous orbit 22,000 miles above the earth. I distinctly remember an all hands meeting where the insurance talk was the only thing that perked us up and woke us from our stupor. You see, satellites are expensive AF, so the customers want it to last a long time. To make it last a long time means more overhead in parts and engineering. Which makes it more expensive. So the customer wants it to last longer if they're paying that much. So the insurance taken out on a 15-year guaranteed $200M satellite is often the most expensive part of the whole operation. More than the satellite, more than the 100+ft rocket we put it on, more than the fuel to get it into space. When we're waiting on new contracts, it's the insurance more than anything else that determines if the customer backs out or not. The financial guy meekly apologized at the end of his talk for being the "most boring subject", but we were all quick to turn to each other in surprise, saying, "Wait, no no, that's literally the only surprising and interesting thing I learned out of this whole 2-hour long mandatory status thing that could have been an email!"

Tenwyn

I hope you guys watch Better Call Saul after this. I know some may not agree with me but I think it's just as good, and in some ways even better than BB. It really scratches the itch for those of us that want to know more about some of these character's history.

Dan

Most boring subject to me is any celebrity's new crush/beau/relationship/fling. I don't know what they're like behind the scenes and I dgaf about who's seeing who. Hell, even as a porn aficionado, I avoid leaked sex tapes because they're always bad. Just start talking about who's rumored to be dating anyone and I physically pass out like I'm reading Dickens. P.S. I posted a story about insurance being interesting under Tenwyn's comment. Has to do with the financials on $200M geosynchronous satellites.

j c

Later, in the replacement: "Heads up, the first half of the new video has the wrong person in the foreground. The episode is number 8 but Simone has been replaced with Fozzie the Bear by mistake. I'm getting Simone out of the basement dungeon and re-recording"

VinnyAhhh

idk if it was pointed out for y'all before or not, but you've actually seen the actor for Hector before! He was the landlord we briefly see in the beginning of Ace Ventura (the one who tells him he'd evict him if he spots any pets).

Alec S

>> I honestly never understood why the cartel killed the cook instead of Gus Because, as mentioned briefly by someone right after the shooting by the pool - Fring was a "somebody" back in Chile, so he was not to be touched, even by the cartels. His friend the chemist, OTOH was dispensable, hence why he was shot as a lesson.

GoodManTheDan

I stopped watching as soon as I realised the second episode is ep 9 and not ep 8. I'll skip ahead to see if the realise but if you are watching for the first time be careful for spoilers. Nevermind - either I am crazy or it was fixed :)

Amar

The last 3 episodes need to be watched together. They fit perfectly together. IMO episode 11 is the best TV i have ever seen.

Jeff K

It was fixed. The reaction was correct but the video was mistakenly episode 9. George re-uploaded the correct version not too long ago.

Jeff K

I’m firmly of the opinion it’s even better than BB. It also has one of my favorite performances in TV history by Rhea Seehorn.

Kevin

Aaron Paul in episode 7 is just such great acting.

Mike Miner

It is Aoki, but add some glasses and I think we have some new George merch.

Patrick

As someone who has worked in Insurance, it is incredibly boring. Although insurance scams and scam attempts that get caught are pretty interesting. When businesses randomly "catch on fire" you'd be surprised how often they still get payouts even though everyone and their mother knows it was intentional. It was Milton from Office Space every time.

Mike Miner

From the perspective of someone about the same age as the BB writers: Ed McMahon was Johnny Carson's co-host on "The Tonight Show". He also had some weird side gig for a sweepstakes commercial, where he'd randomly show up on the doorstep of the winner with a big oversized check, cameras and all. "Terms of Endearment" is a movie which won a bunch of acting awards (to put in in Hank terms)

ThePVO

One of Giancarlo Esposito's first professional acting jobs was a play in NYC when he was 16, Mark Margolis (RIP) played his father in the play.

Vwlss Nvwls

I am typically rooting for Walt, except when he disregards Jesse's feelings, and talks down to him. I know Walt cares about Jesse, even thinks of him as a son at times, but when his ego steps in I find it hard to care for Walt. I loved the episode seeing some of Gustavo's back story. So interesting.

Vwlss Nvwls

Good luck with your move, George. I recently moved from Texas to San Diego... all by myself... at 54 years old. I felt dead for two weeks, but it is oh so very nice her in San Diego. :D

Tenn Seven

In the second episode Mike was shown leaving the hospital (and disposing of a needle on his way out) as a hint that he killed Lionel rather than waiting to see if he would succumb to his injuries.

Tim T—

Back then when it was shown live, I read in a review the description that Mark Margolis (Hector) can act more with his lower lip than other actors with their whole body. I still agree.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yeah I get that for the story, just saying it's a dumb move from the cartel's perspective, why kill the one you can control and spare the more dangerous one?

Dan Holmes

The most boring subject you can talk about in the intro is "what would be the most boring subject we could talk about during the intro" 😅 jk chemtrails

REDR58

Moves are one of the most irritating things to deal with. I hate moving with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

Dan

Yeah, came back to say this. He was a spokesperson for the Clearing House Sweepstakes, which were famous in the 90's. So Saul was referencing his job as delivery man for money.

Dan

I like the subtlety of Gus correcting Juan Bolsa over the phone. Back in 3x8 (right after the attack on Hank), Bolsa is talking about his "men" and Gus says, "Your MAN is in the hospital". Like, quietly saying to himself, "You LOST, bish, and you've got more coming" haha. And then Bolsa is shot in a later scene.

Dan

Phew, you got down to the last minute and I was thinking you wouldn't talk about the Problem Dog group scene. Aaron Paul is goddamn amazing in every monologue he does. Anytime he tears up, I just can't stop myself either, no matter how many times I've seen the show.

j c

Since it's never revealed in the show, read this if you want the episode writer's answer to what Gus did in Chile: According to the episode's writers interviewed in "Breaking Bad 101: The Complete Critic's Companion", they discussed Gus's backstory a lot and decided to write him as someone who had been a high ranking member of the Chilean army working in Pinochet's infamous "Black Cocaine" program

Shonnicus

George... "Those sodas are Massive. That's alot soda". America baby l!

Martin Roca

I know people already said this, but if you can watch the last 3 together is the best way, they fit perfectly with the end of the season.

Jeff K

One small detail to Giancarlo's peformance that I absolutely love: his accent comes out when he's talking to Hector and anyone else with cartel ties. It's almost never present when talking to the DEA or Walt or anyone else.

Dan

Those aren't even Big Gulps from the gas station lol

Fernando Alamán

For me, one of the strengths of CineBinge it's how well and professional it's handled, in every sense. I guess George's background as project manager is handy for things to run as smooth and well planned as they are in this channel. And when there is a problem (because shit happens), there is a fix in less than a couple of hours. I value this a lot, honestly.

Tenn Seven

Yeah, this show does a great job (and especially with Gus' character) with those subtleties where characters say what they say and do what they do for a specific reason, whether it's something the show is trying to get across, or something the individual character would be getting across.

Spencer

I think it's definitely better than Breaking Bad. It's a lot more polished, and the character writing is even better somehow. It is a lot more slowburn though, not that I personally mind.

J. Valentine

As a native spanish speaker from Chile, is hard for me to take this seriously knowing how bad Gus's spanish is lol

Rory McDonagh

This has been alluded to in other comments, but I'd highly recommend that you finish this round of Breaking Bad watching on the season finale (S4 E13) rather than going ahead to S5 E1 like you did with S2 E1. I know you've probably already planned this out, whether you do the last 3 eps together or the final one by itself, but just wanted to make sure : ). Loving your reactions so far, can't wait for the rest of the series, imo it just gets better and better. The end of this season is going to blow you away.

shaneth138

The most boring topic to talk about would be discussing what the most boring topic to talk about is. So I think you succeeded 😆

Zinphad

There was a reference in Hector's flashback in season 3 (One Minute) to Gus being connected to the Chilean military, and thus afforded some protection.

Dan Holmes

IF YOU READ THIS BEFORE WATCHING THE NEXT BATCH OF EPISODES YOU SHOULD WATCH EP. 9, 10 & 11 TOGETHER Then you can watch 12 & 13 together the following week Sorry for the CAPS lol

Dan Holmes

I KNOW! I wish they would talk more about the actual episode and how good things are executed rather than speculate about the story lol, but i'll take what i can get

Dan Holmes

I almost agree, tho personally i prefer the cliffhanger after 11 to really sink in before getting to the final arc, either way they do it will be great tho :)

Logan Kerlee

Most boring subject. uhh.. hell, I don't know! Something SUPER specific about something that nobody has any interest in. I've got no ideas beyond that though.

BangDroid

I am jumping on this too, BCS is phenomenal TV. I am currently re-watching it for the 4th time with another reaction channel. I've watched BB maybe 7 times through and I'm coming to realize I love BCS even more.

Philipp Roensch

The most boring topic is of course dream interpretation, like, why should I care for things that didn't happen and you remember vaguely? Onto the episodes: Now this is Hank in the best form, you love to see it. I think he is a better man as well, since his position is no longer blinding him, and of course less demeaning. Also, finally my personal pet peeve, that bad counselor gets his whole acceptance stick thrown right back at him, Jesse is also seeing clearer. Now Gus' past getting pieced together, for us - not the DEA :), giving us more motivation for Gus and his fight against the cartel. Not spoiling, you gonna be floored by where this goes.

JBK405

I've found that, provided the one doing the talking is honestly enthusiastic about the subject, there is no universally boring topic. I've been engrossed by people just talking about the weather because they CARED about the weather, instead of just trying to pass the time. If somebody is just speaking to fill the air then even Rocket Powered Jet-skis will be boring. For the one question you posed that I didn't see answered already, I don't think Gus is paying Walt ONLY in $50 bills, just that they're all high denominations. Since they come in bundles, that stack was probably bundles of $50s, and the $100s are in a different bundle. As to why he uses any $50s at all instead of only using $100s, I assume it's an availability issue. There's only so many $100 bills in circulation, and large bank purchases are probably tracked for suspicious activity. By mixing in $50s and spreading out the purchases they can avoid suspicion. Gus's car highlights just how stupid it was for Walt to splurge on that car last episode. Driving an old Volvo is just one more layer of camouflage for Gus. He almost certainly can afford a better car based on his legitimate earnings (It's established that he publicly owns 14 restaurants, which probably actually makes him low-scale 'rich'), but by choosing not to do so he avoids attracting attention. It doesn't matter that he could explain it away afterwards, he doesn't even want people to ask the question in the first place. Just like his relationship with Gale. He had an answer for every question so there's no active government pursuit, but now he's on the radar and Hank is continuing to dig. If he drove a flashy Porsche, that might get to get somebody to say "How can he afford a Porsche selling chicken?" And even if he produces his tax returns to justify it, that little question may never go away.

ProIndy

I can't wait for you to watch Better Call Saul. Or I mean, I really hope you watch it after you're done with this. :)

Jesse Coombs

I gotta say, you guys are the most professional reactors that I've seen. It's a small thing, but letting us know that you won't be able to read comments for a day because of George's move? While also releasing so many videos on such a consistent schedule? Wild. No one else does this. I hope you guys aren't getting burned out, but I want to just thank you for making my $9.50 a month worth it. (Also, all of that wouldn't matter if the reactions weren't fun, but you manage to do that too!)

Khan1001

Cant wait for you to watch the next 2 and then the finale! also, did you recognize the main Boss in the flash back? he was in Scarface, he played Tony's (Pacino's) partner, Manny (Steven Bauer).

Michael Kea

The most boring subject is German business law. I spend 3 years in Business school in Germany and literally fell asleep EVERYDAY because it was Soooo boring. 😴 That’s why I said… “Fuck it, I’m out going on an adventure Road tripping in Canada!” 🤣

proVaxxer

Any chance you can have subtitles on for the videos that run in the background? It'd be great for following along.

Logan Kerlee

Enjoyed both of these episodes. :) Good stuff. Also, I'm happy that you're recovering well George! Keep it up, buddy. :)

Tom M

Yea, Gus’s reaction too is like heartbreak of love lost, not coworker lost. As far as Gus’s past, my thought was always he was connected to a gang. But specifics don’t really matter for the story—just that he’s an untouchable unless Eladio wants to deal with the problems from killing Gus. Re: his partner, Eladio was dismissive of poor man’s cocaine and knew partner was a nobody Then I assume Gus goes to US, builds his empire, Eladio realizes he’s useful, brings him in on the same mgmt level as Hector and Juan. Business is good for all but underlying tension remains.

Orphan Crippler

I was at a party with people drinking, listening to music having fun and saw someone I didn't know so I did the polite thing and asked them how things were going ect ect. after about 2 minutes of conversation he told me he was into video games.. Long story short he spent the entire night following me around telling me about his fucking Skyrim character, like all the gear he had, all his stats, what quest he was currently doing... I would just stand there and nod as my brain melted from boredom.. But what made it worse wasn't the fact that it was the most boring thing I have ever listened to.. It was the fact that there was so many fun things happening around me and I was trapped and couldn't escape it.. Believe me I tried

Greg H. G.

"Not a psychologist, but..." Assuming you [Orphan Crippler] accurately reported the situation, then 99.9% the guy has Asperger's Syndrome (type of autism). As an older now-more-self-aware diagnosed AS person myself, that would have been me in my younger days.

megamoo chilli

Why the most boring topic to talk about??

Kim-Christian Nielsen

Talking about what is the most boring subject for pre-show is the in fact the most boring subject you could choose. I see what you did there. Bored out of our minds over here.

Kenneth thomas

lol those soda cups are basically the small size here in the U.S. nowadays

PIG

That sounds like an intense and important job. I guess anything so detailed oriented can be just too tedious sometimes.

Jeff K

Let me edit that down a little bit for you: "Aaron Paul is just great" It'll save you time moving forward since it's always applicable. (Well, outside of the movie Need For Speed, of course.)

Travis H

I know this is kinda early since I know you two are doing another show before the final Breaking Bad season, but I just wanted to request/plea/beg that when you do get back to the final season of BB that you don’t leave the 2 episodes a week schedule. There are multiple episodes that almost work as two parters and sticking to the two episodes schedule is the most ideal way of watching the final season (short of binging it all in one go)! Fellow patrons (especially those that know the final season well) please like this post if you agree, I truly believe this is the best way of watching the final season.

Jared Spotted Eagle

This is probably my fourth time watching Breaking Bad and Each time I watch it I always catch something I hadn't noticed before. There is a small but significant detail I noticed at the beginning of s3e9: Kafkaesque. The episode opens with a T.V. commercial for Pollos Hermanos. At the very beginning of the ad, in a brief showing of fine print at the bottom of the screen it flashes: "LOS POLLOS HERMANOS, INC. IS A REGISTERED TRADMARK OF MADRIGAL ELECTROMOTIVE GmbH." It isn't until season four, episode seven that Madrigal is mentioned again. This impressive attention to detail and forethought in the writting is one of the reasons this BB is my favorite show and it never ceases to amaze me. Pure excellence.

Odd Thomas

Dammit, I swore I'd never rewatch this series cos I found it so traumatising but here we are.

Henrybot

The most boring intro you could possibly do is probably having a discussion about what the most boring intro could be

Huckleberry lobo

I think it's not what people talk about that's boring, it's how they say it cuz I'm pretty sure Robin Williams can talk about trigonometry and still make it entertaining. lol

LazyArtist

"Who's Ed McMahon?" ...omg, I'm old.

Angela D. Mitchell

I totally agree -- George and Simone are both wonderful counterpoints, and make viewing with them a lot of fun. Kudos!

Angela D. Mitchell

Yeah, agreed, it's very evident that it was Gus's life partner, not just his business partner, and we can see shaded homophobia from all the cartel guys who visibly know this and despise it. It's so sad.

Jay Willis

I mean this is a long time ago right? This show is set in the mid 2000s, and I believe Hank mentions that Gus migrated to the US in the late 80s or early 90s. So this is probably in the late 80s. So we're talking about 15 years where the cartel has Gus under their boot doing what they want. They controlled him plenty as far as they were concerned. So it took a long time before Gus started making moves against the Cartel. Also, I always took it as the Cartel isn't scared of Gus, they're scared of who would be upset if they killed Gus. Like Gus probably has no power at this point. But maybe whomever he's connected to does. They're not concerned that by killing Gus' partner they might upset someone because they won't care. Max is a nobody, he's just Gus' cook, and in Cartel world they're justified in killing him for overstepping. But Gus is protected. Just my take.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Yeah to be honest I started thinking more about it after I commented, I think you're right about Gus being protected by someone even bigger than the cartel. That's why I can't wait to get into the last season, I don't remember it completely (and also don't want to spoil anything) but that makes sense.
