Obligatory: "There's no crying! There's no crying in baseball!" I'm glad you guys got to this. I hope Field of Dreams won't be too far down the road, out of that baseball poll.

Zero Cochrane

“This has got to be the longest pee in history.”

Scott CineRam

Thanks for reacting to my all-time favorite sports movie, as well as my favorite comedic performance from Tom Hanks.

jmundt33a

I wonder about their opinion of the enduring ending debate.

Jeff K

Good call Simone: yep, they dubbed Geena’s voice on the older actress.

jmundt33a

I forgot about the bookend pop music. And Marla’s dad is still my favorite Jonathan Kent. The late Eddie Jones.

Jeff K

Welcome to the debate about whether Dottie dropped the ball on purpose. I think she did, personally.

Christina Doxstader

The league was real but the movie is a fictionalized version. I actually had the honor of meeting some of the players not too long after my family moved to Michigan. The Grand Rapids Chicks won the World Series in 1953, the second to last season, and some of them came back to celebrate the 50th anniversary, it was pretty cool. One thing I thought was very cool in the movie was the scene where the black lady throws the ball right over Geena's head. The league, just like the majors, was segregated so there were probably quite a few non white players who never got their chance.

Dwight Scarn

For some reason I think Dottie dropped it on purpose too when I saw this year's ago.

Dwight Scarn

Great movie, I think I saw this in theater when I was kid. One of my favorite Tom Hanks roles too.

Thank you for doing this movie. Love love love it. Also might be my favorite Hanks performance. He plays so much against type but with that unquantifiable Hanks-ness to it. Also my favorite “yelly” Hanks.

Jeff K

Don't ask me why I know this, but I remember exactly when I saw it because we got a fancy new VCR (we'd had them before, of course, and I don't remember why this was fancy, but it apparently was), and the first two movies we watched were this and Sneakers, back-to-back... and by sheer coincidence, Marla's dad is in Sneakers, too. So is David Straithairn (Lowenstein), come to think of it.

Jordan Barnes

YEEEEEES I was so excited when I saw this come up on a poll, it’s one of the few sports movies i enjoyed growing up and I still scream “there’s no crying in baseball!” whenever the opportunity arises. So stoked for this reaction.

Bob Steger

As someone who has no interest in sports whatsoever, this was one of the few sports movies I have always really enjoyed. Thank you for doing this one. Another great baseball movie is The Natural. Not a comedy, but, I think, one of Robert Redford's best performances with an iconic ending.

Jordan Barnes

This movie is absolutely hilarious and I definitely consider it an underrated film.

The actress who plays Shirley, the girl who couldn't read at the beginning, is Ann Cusack, the younger sister of John and Joan Cusack. It was her first film, and a friend of mine dated her for a while a few years after this film came out so I got to hang out with her several times and she's just a great person. She had a lot of photos at her apartment of her and the other actresses from the making of the film. She gets a bit overshadowed by her two older siblings but she's a great actress. Her and Lori Petty, who played Kit, were also in a cult film together (along with Ice-T, Naomi Watts, and even Iggy Pop, briefly) called "Tank Girl" which is, per IMDB: 'A girl is among the few survivors of a dystopian Earth. Riding a war tank, she fights against the tyranny of a mega-corporation that dominates the remaining potable water supply of the planet.' and it's a fun watch. Maybe a CineCringe watch (or is that done-zoh)?

If you want to check out another (very different) movie directed by Penny Marshall I heartily recommend Awakenings. It stars Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro, and was nominated for Best Picture.

James Falato

Tom Hanks character was loosely based on Jimmie Foxx, a MLB HOFer who Managed an All Women Team for one Season... However Foxx was NOT Abusive towards the Women Players at all...

I've always believed 100% that Kit EARNED that run at the end. Apart from the fact that it would be wrong for Dottie to sabotage all of her fellow teammates by letting Kit score on purpose, it would also take the victory away from Kit herself. Kit doesn't want Dottie to LET her win, Kit wants TO WIN. So for me there's no question at all. Kit saw one thing standing between her and the winning run, and she decided that that wasn't going to stop her. The film got a pseudo-remake as a TV series in 2022. I say "pseudo-remake" because it's the same concept (A fictionalized story of the AAGPBL) but has no story or character connection. I doubt it will ever win a poll to watch, but I give it a solid recommendation to watch on your own time. It takes a much deeper look at the racism, sexism, and other bigotry of the era for a more serious examination. I loved it, but it got really jerked around by the studio so it never got its second season (The studio tried to blame the strike for its cancellation, but the producers and stars have accused them of trying to use the show as leverage and that they'd already made their decisions before the strike ever happened).

One of my all time favorite movies. Loved your reaction as always!

Gatsby

Please watch Cloud Atlas 🙏❣️

Chase Schleich

Why does the thumbnail look like George is farting on Simone's head? I'm not the only one seeing that right? lol

Max Carter

wait wtf I love Awakenings but never knew it was directed by the same person as this film! Both great watches

REDR58

There was a previous even shorter-lived spin off TV series of the movie in 1993. It only lasted for five episodes and some of the characters and actors from the movie appeared in the show.

REDR58

I understand why they did it, but I found it to be a little distracting.

Angel Baby

Y’all should react to varsity blues

The debate about the play at the plate will never end. Rosie O’Donnell mentioned in her last stand-up special that several of her cardiac nurses asked her whether Dottie dropped the ball on purpose during operation prep.

This movie was my mom's favorite movie. When I was a little kid, my mom was always watching it ether on VHS or if it was on TV. Debra Winger is a very good actor and very beautiful but she's a weird one. She dropped out of A League of Their Own because when she heard Madonna was going to be in the movie, Debra Winger said this was going to be an Elvis movie. Implying it's going to be a Madonna movie. Like saying it's a Tom Hanks movie or a Jason Statham movie, etc. But It's a movie with Madonna and Tom Hanks in it. Debra Winger supports Roman Polanski and Danny Masterson. By the way, thanks a lot Simone for saying the music sounded like Aladdin. Now I can't unhear it lol. If I'm not mistaken, Women's baseball league lasted 9 years.

Ben

Saw this movie as a kid and remember being deeply affected by it. Now I remember why, holy smokes it hits the feels.
