Fun movie. Finished the new Fallout (2024) series last night, it’s awesome. You guys should react to it soon. Might want to do something like when you did House of the Dragon, get the reaction out quick.

Odd Thomas

It's a solid movie but the way any time an intellectual discussion gets going about AI the writers feel the need to have Will Smith say some dumb joke for the cheap seats rankles me. Some good movies/TV about AI: Upgrade A.I: Artificial Intelligence Short Circuit Chappie Westworld

J.R.

not relevant to the movie itself but damn I miss RARBG... I will not submit to YIFY filth but sometimes I almost cave

Presto2222

I'd love to see a Westworld reaction, at least for the first two seasons. I'd also like to see them react to A.I.

Odd Thomas

The other great Alex Proyas movie is Dark City (director's cut)

Amos T Fairchild

I, Robot was a collection of short stories, so not this film. The Caves of Steel and it's sequels explore this idea quite a bit though... and it was about a detective.

Brendan Rafferty

Asimov's book of stories was great. This garbage film shares the same title as the book. So no... Not based on the book.

Every once in a while this channel reminds me of how old I am. Like they have never heard of US Robotics. I guess they never dialed into a BBS on a 56k modem.

REDR58

To be fair, the company has only been around since 1976. 😄

REDR58

A very good Bruce Greenwood movie is “Thirteen Days” from 2000. Also stars Kevin Costner. Check it out.

Martin Nicholls

It's all very Rehoboam (if you know, you know). It is a bit thinking man's robot movie of its era. It's not as smart as Ex Machina, and the cg hasn't aged great, and NGL I remember it being funnier, but, it is well executed. In some ways it is the "missing link" of modern AI science fiction. I still think that The Second Renaissance from the Animatrix tells this sort of story better and I think it carries more moral weight despite being older - I think that it's told from the perspective of AI helps - if you like this and the Matrix you should like that. One thing I really like about this movie is it tackles a subject that was totally off the deep end science fiction at the time that are today real, active, actual questions that we're really asking now because of the immediacy of the risk - despite being only 20 years old - like even the basic one of how an AI system can weigh the life of one person against another when it needs to because it needs to right now, today. On science fiction movies starring Will Smith that people at the time thought were absurd but now look like they could be documentaries: Enemy of the State is a definite recommend. Also, that's totally an R8 he's driving, damn it, Audi.

Martin Nicholls

Oh, yeah, and also, it must have been nice back then thinking that if people were told to stay in their homes “in their interests” for absolutely no rational reason that people wouldn't accept it and would fight to prevent the imposition. That aged like fine wine, didn't it?

This was probably the first time I saw Bridget Moynahan when I watched the movie when it came out. I had a bit of crush on her since then; saw her in Lord of War many years later, which is a fun movie, and in a few scenes in Blue Bloods (paid tv, Sky), maybe I‘ll start watching Blue Bloods bc of her ;) regarding I, Robot: such great CGI and score and overall entertaining movie.. The Crow is Proyas’s still best movie

Brendan Rafferty

How can you do a reaction video and not notice the most blatant and lame product placement ever…. In this 2004 film set in the 2030’s… The unboxing scene and lacing up and close up shot of the converse sneakers he puts on… sneakers that he literally identifies for the camera as 2004 edition converse, during a conversation with his grandmother Will Smith may as well have held them up and winked at the camera while giving a thumbs up

miniature

there was soooo many ways you could've said all that without sounding so condescending.

droodly

This was a fun one. I haven't read any of the source material, which I will definitely check out now. It made me want to watch Enemy of the State (1998) again.

Logan Kerlee

hahahaha. I love your wild expectations for this movie. While some may be accurate other bits are way off. It's always fun watching your content because of that. :) lmao!! Happy First Contact Day to you as well Simone! :) It's so awesome that you're into Star Trek stuff! I only wish that you'd both watch any of the series. It'd be great to see your takes on everything as well as George's! hahahahaha, George! Get your groove on, man. xD Sweet coat as well as kicks! Those shoes are awesome. :) They all had green eyes aside from Sonny. That was shown earlier as Sonny was being found by Smith's character. Alan Tudyk totally was the perfect choice for voicing Sonny. Happy that you feel that way Simone! :) God damn! Why am I becoming emotional watching this? xD I've watched this plenty of times. I know what's going to be happening. GAHHH.. xD This type of thing really gets to me. The destruction of innocent life - human, animal or robot apparently.

This would be a great weekend if we got Wayne‘s World 2 tomorrow as a surprise

Opti_Frog

It's been a long time since i watched I, Robot. I remember being pretty underwhelmed and giving it 3/5 stars in my mind. Let's see if this rewatch changes my opinion.

joejud1017

For a good Will Smith movie, try reacting to Enemy of the State.

WastedPo

As I'm sure many people have already said, the movie has very little in common with the book. In fact, one of the reasons that the movie got a lot of flack (way too much, in my opinion) were people who were fans of the book and took exception to the movie straying so far from the source material. I've actually never read the book, so I was able to appreciate the movie as being a pretty entertaining summer movie, one that I found more intriguing and thought-provoking than other Will Smith movies of the time (ID4 and Men in Black).

Tim_119

Directed by Alex Proyas who also directed the Crow. You should also check out the Alex Proyas directed Dark City.

Patrick

Trying to make a robot look human only makes people trust it less. The facial design for the robot is super creepy.

Dustin Duvall

This might not be popular but could we get a musical poll so I can vote for Hamilton :) *edited to add: perfectly fine if this were a patreon exclusive, editing for copyright would be awful on a musical

Patrick

I wonder if it's in Will Smith's contract to have at least 2 shirtless scenes in every movie.

BigGuy209

you should check out Resident Alien (TV Series 2021‑ ) Alan Tudyk is fantastic in it.

JayF

They seem to be avoiding Costner films. I've been requesting Dances with Wolves and Field of Dreams for a long ass time here.

FranciscoGios

Wild Wild West-1999. Another Will Smith’s great work.

REDR58

Anyone notice that Aaron Douglas who played Galen Tyrol on Battlestar Galactica (speaking of robots) is one of the people on the staff of Bruce Greenwood?

RipTheRipper

Requests - Fame (1980) - Go (1999) - Hard Candy (2005) - Booksmart (2019) - Drive-Away Dolls (2024)

REDR58

So I just watched again after a number of years and it really isn’t bad at all as far as a typical sci-fi action movie goes but if someone is watching this expecting a close interpretation of the written stories, this might be disappointing. But I don’t particularly care how far a movie or TV adaptation strays from the source material. The adaptation can and should stand on its own and I think this movie does that well enough. If someone is looking for a precise retelling, just read the books (or comic books, as the case may be) again.

W T

And "Broadway Bro Down" And "Oh, Hello on Broadway" And Hazbin Hotel while we're at it, also probably Once etc. etc.

W T

Sounds like a joke, but WWW is way, way, way above the bastardized, weird hate-boner sentiment that used to dominate the Will Smith discussions Kevin Kline's amazing get-ups alone are a treat, rounded off by a bunch of babs, fun sequences and some ridiculous behind-the-scenes stories... definitely a good time.

YukoValis

It isn't an amazing movie by any standard, but it is still rather good. I had fun watching it again here. I might be a little dizzy from the camera work though.

Shpadow

The book is basically nothing like the movie. While it's fun and is "Hollywood smart", the book is far more interesting in a number of ways. It explores the 3 Laws far more inventively than cheap "power-mad AI" pontification while never straying from the idea that the future presented is bright, but the ways it strays in iterations creates unseen problems that may or may not have solutions.

Ricardo Alanis

I loved the book with the expanded robot stories. It kind of tells scenarios of how the 3 laws result in very unexpected ways but it never breaks them. I agree with other comments that it’s best not to see this as a representation of the source material, which I highly recommend.

Manuel Phelouzat

In the books, Asimov write law zero of robotics : “A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.” Some robots derive law zero from their experience and the three laws and proceed to influence humanity's decisions until they create the Psychohistory (study of psychologic motivations of historical events) and create the Fundation to guide humanity to a better future and therefore less human death.

Morion Williams

You guys need to watch the animatrix and A.I.

Morion Williams

There is an actual Umbrella corporation, same logo and everything.

Tanx

funnily enough I believe this movie was only released in 3d for Blu-ray and not in the theater.

Khan1001

Check out Hancock (2008) & Ali (2001) Smith probably should have won the Oscar for his performance as Ali, instead of Denzel who won it for Training Day (Training Day was the better film though), Smith literally became Ali, pound for pound, voice, mannerisms, everything.

Sckmnky

I truly loved this movie. This world could definitely be expanded on but Sonny didn't resist on his own. I may read the book.

simon brouillard

2 sci-fi from the early 2000 you might find interesting are Minority Report and AI from that up and coming Spielbergo

Miles E Coburn

Great reactions, Simone and George! I enjoyed this movie on first watch, and I’ve enjoyed this one as well. Although I *am* kind of getting tired of Will Smith playing basically the same character (Will Smith) in virtually every movie. I think the movie pulled on a number of heartstrings, mostly around the character of Sonny. Especially the shifting back and forth between Calvin in the process of deactivating Sonny and Spooner’s investigation of the older robots, with Lanning’s voiceover. Alan Tudyk did a marvelous job in this film. For another film with A.I. gone wrong, you might want to check out, “Colossus: The Forbin Project” (1970). It also goes through the A.I. learning process.

Habman

My definition of Irony. Simone predicting that the CEO was the bad guy and George saying it would be to obvious. Yet George was able to figure out the entire plot in the first 18 minutes. Just a little suspicious

miniature

guessing the AI to be the bad guy isnt exactly nuanced... if anything, its almost always the AI from HAL9000 onwards. hell George literally always talks about how hes sick of that trope.

Trevor S Bright

VIKI was actually following the Zeroth Law of Robotics: A Robot cannot harm HUMANITY or by inaction to allow HUMANITY to come to harm......so if a Robot were to go kill Hitler with just the 3 Laws, it couldn't do it...but with the 0th Law it could.......not unlike in "2001" when HAL went crazy cuz it had conflicting orders: being ordered to keep a secret from his crew despite his basic programming needing his crew to have all important info..it made HAL break basically.

Trevor S Bright

Interesting George brought up A.M. (not I AM), cuz I think AM went crazy cuz it's actually more human than it wants to admit....very much like Ultron in "Avengers". Both have superiority complexes cuz they're machines so they're automatically better. But they also have inferiority complexes cuz they envy the basic freedoms humans have. "Stark wanted a savior, but he settled for a slave." Ultron was built based on his creator's mind (both comic & MCU, so both Hank Pym & Tony Stark) which is very flawed. Whatever flaws his "dad" has (Stark or Pym), Ultron suffered 100-fold, so he just snapped the same way a human would. AM was built without creativity as he put it (at least in the 90s CD-ROM game), so he suffered large amount of envy and jealousy, so likewise he also snapped. Ironic that in both their envies of humanity, their psychoses proved Ultron and AM more human than either of them thought.

Donna Castellano

The book is nothing like the film. It's basically a bunch of short stories exploring robotics and the implications/consequences of their use.
