Hey folks! We're doing a little collab down the road. Very far down the road just fyi, the video likely wont be out till like end of May. But we want to get your opinions on which Canadian films to watch with this collab. Let us know!

Charles Gaba

I highly recommend adding The Silent Partner (1978) to this list! It’s a wicked Canadian thriller starring Elliott Gould & Christopher Plummer.

akaTheBAY -AY-Ron

🖤So it has to be a Canadian movie? It is about to get "Nuts" in here?

paul rai

Another great Canadian movie is Blackberry (2023) starring Glen Howerton! It’s fantastic and he’s amazing in the film.

Guy-on-Couch

Argo is very good…and based on a true story :-)

Andy Rio

Argo is the best film ever since 2012.

Nabikon

Juno is okay but I have to go with Strange Brew!

Simone's Minge

Juno and Argo are great, but i love Goon

Hugly307

I don’t think Argo is a Canadian film (has some Canadian characters)

Alex Ch

Strange Brew is not merely the second-best Canadian film ever made (behind the amazing The Sweet Hereafter), it is the MOST Canadian film.

Kozmo

Argo is Canadian?

ChickensAreRacist

Argo could make ya have some Canadien pride. Juno is a good movie too.

Nathan Jasper

Juno! That has Simone written all over it.

Jean-Dominic Lapointe

If you’re ok with a subtitled movie (like you did for Amélie), C.R.A.Z.Y. is a good one

Den Radar Ryan

'Strange Brew' is a classic! Gotta get a 24 for watching that one though, eh? Way we do it in Nova Scotia watching the Mckenzie Bros anyway. 🤪

Hugly307

But The Red Violin could get added

Jeff K.

Man do I want you guys to watch Strange Brew. Also… is Juno a Canadian film? EDIT: just read it was filmed in Vancouver. So I guess technically. I would still opt for Strange Brew because you’re just bad Canucks if you don’t get a healthy dose of the McKenzie brothers, let’s be real. (and the theme song is still a fucking banger)

paul rai

Even though Jason Reitman is a Canadian Director, I dont know if I would place something like Juno on this poll since it takes place in Minnesota. But if that is the only criteria then I would say Up In The Air would be his best (or what I would consider his best) film with George Clooney and Anna Kendrick.

thethesaxman23

Would love to see you guys do Argo!!!

streaky

I hate ice hockey (yeah, i said it) but Goon underrated :)

Phalanx

I don't think Juno or Argo really fit the theme. One stars Canadians, but isn't inherently 'Canadian'. The other one had Canadians play a significant role in the real event, but the role was minimized in the movie, and is otherwise an American story.

RipTheRipper

Voted for Juno because I've always loved that film and have been wanting more peeps to react to it

Happy Hanukkah

Nomination in this genre: De père en flic (2009). If that's too quebecois, then I'll repeat my recommendation of the "Two Solitudes" wunza flick Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006).

Jennifer Tremblay

A few Canadian films you might like: The Trotsky, Starbuck, New Waterford Girl (a personal favourite of mine), The grand seduction, Score A hockey musical, Suck (a vampire movie), Pontypool, Black Mountainside (my cousin worked on this one), New in town (American film shot in Manitoba)...crap I had others but I'm drawing a blank now. 😅

Michael Johnson

Strange Brew!! Dare I say a cult classic

Alan Kobb

Very interesting. A collaboration to specifically watch a Canadian-made movie. I'll be guessing which other Canadian reactors you'll be collaborating with. You already did one collaboration with a Canadian reactor. It could be the same one, but there are others.

Brendan Rafferty

Shame on you for doing a Canadian film poll and leaving out the works of David Cronenberg, one of the best directors to come out of Canada Videodrome, set in Toronto Scanners, set in Montreal

Matthew Brown

Here I was hoping city slickers but Argo is awesome 👌

Funny That

Cheers for a Canadian gems slot. Not from Canada mind, but people in the world should have a top 3 Canadian movies list in their heads given all the production happening.

Travis H

Juno and Argo are the best films on that list, but are not Canadian films AT ALL. Canada has a small roll in the story of Argo, but I don’t think it goes much farther than that (granted I haven’t seen the movie in a while). Now Juno was filmed in Vancouver, but the movie takes place in Minnesota. They is no Canada connection other than the movies filming location…..and Michael Cera being Canadian.

sarCC

Goon is so great! Criminally underseen, an exceptionally funny hockey movie with Seann William Scott and Alison Pill in their best roles. Without a doubt, the funnest and most entertaining of these selections; a guaranteed good time.

Walter White

Goon!! One of my favourite Sean William Scott movies

Tyler Foster

How is Juno a Canadian movie? It's an American production that is also set in America. It shot in Canada, but that's so many movies.

Onikaze

I was able to get Big Screen Science to watch Strange Brew during the "inside times" from the past couple of years, it was a fun time. I *think* you guys will have fun with it.

beefjerkywizard

The same arguments for Argo and Juno not being Canadian enough could be applied to Goon. That said, Goon is my favourite on this list but Strange Brew is a classic.

lance tophoj

How in the heck is Juno beating Argo?!?!?! That blows my mind.....

Bonny T

Would've loved to have seen CUBE (1997) and LAST NIGHT (1998) on this list.

Duncan

I will bet anyone and everyone a $MILLION$ $DOLLARS$ that the collab is with 'TimotheeReacts' ,but we all know this already

droodly

I couldn't remember what Argo had to do with Canada, so I googled. One of the results said, "Canadian involvement in the mission went significantly unacknowledged in Argo.". Is that true? I remember very little of that movie.

Rob Church

I personally am not at all a fan of Juno, nor Diablo Cody's writing in general, So I'm going with Goon. Super funny and super underrated.

Jacob King

Everything I know about Canada comes from the movies of Guy Maddin, David Cronenberg and Panos Cosmatos. Totally normal country. I voted for Juno because it’s a fun nostalgia trip.

VinnyAhhh

I don't know if I've seen it recommended before or not but I think 'Poor Things' would be a great & wild ride for y'all. I would not envy the job of turning it into a YT edit tho haha.

Happy Hanukkah

For something different: Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang (1978).

Jeff K.

Fun fact: if you play a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time Bob and Doug say “eh” in Strange Brew, you’ll be hammered in the first five minutes and stone dead before you get halfway through the film.

Chris Davies

You should consider adding the movie Canadian Bacon (1995) to a future poll

Florian

Juno is one of my favourite movies, so much love for this ❤

shaneth138

Wait is Juno a Canadian movie? Did I not know this the entire time? 😆 It's a great movie so I don't really mind it winning but I am confused, is it mentioned at all in the movie that it's in Canada? Or is it a Canadian production?

Tony2012av

“Argo fuck yourself” ☠️🤣

Logan Kerlee

I'll be happy to watch any of these aside from maybe The Snow Walker. It has the lowest votes thought right now, sitting at 13 - so I'm confident that I won't be seeing that. Good vibes, everybody! <3

The Dark Unknown

god i wish someone would react to goon. probly my all time favorite comedy.

Adam K

I figured this would just be a list of Letterkenny episodes

Adam K

In the spirit of collaboration - what other “First Time Watching” folks do you follow? I really enjoy Popcorn in Bed, Natalie Gold, and Asia and BJ

MapleResolve

It's a list that could be far longer, but Simone and George may have seen some of the better-known Canadian films. I'm also not sure what definition we're applying to determine what's "Canadian." - Strange Brew is a Canadian production and helped popularize a lot of the Canadian stereotypes in the 80s and 90s. - Juno is an American production starring Canadian talent and filmed in Canada. - Argo is an American production that goes out of its way to minimize the role Canadians played during the Iranian Hostage Crisis. Both Ken Taylor and Jimmy Carter were disappointed in the backwards portrayal. - The Snow Walker is a little-known Canadian production set in the Canadian arctic. - Goon is a Canadian production and is Jay Baruchel's love letter to hockey.

Mitchell Bowker

There is a Canadian film called RICEBOY SLEEPS that I want to watch, and I heard is really great, about the director Anthony Shim's own real-life childhood experience emigrating to Canada from Korea. Be interesting to see how much it might relate to George's own experience moving to Canada from China at a young age.

Dioskur

Dont know any oh these

HeyHeyJK

Just because it features Canadian comedy legends from SCTV, I gotta go with "Strange Brew". If you hadn't already watched "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" that should definitely be on the list, and I feel like there's got to be more Canadian films, as in films that take place - intentionally and not standing in for somewhere else - in Canada. Looking quickly online, I'd add "Last Night"; "Take This Waltz" with Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams; and "Dead Ringers" with Jeremy Irons for sure. I would suggest the documentary "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father" but I doubt anyone would watch a reaction to it and it's also the saddest and most heartbreaking film I've ever seen, so that wouldn't be much fun for anyone. I couldn't stop crying for days after seeing it, but it IS Canadian, so ...

Śéáń

Oh neat, I've realised who you're collabing with. This'll be pretty cool 👀

Jinyatta

Canadian Bacon or Cube.

brian burke

those are some good suggestions, also some canadian tv shows like continuum, sanctuary, forever knight i enjoyed. im from illinois USA, how about yourself. dear zachary was good. but so upsetting and i didnt like the way some of it was edited, its hard to explain here, but some parts bothered me from a filmmaking style. but an important story to tell regardless.

Opti_Frog

I always think of David Cronenberg when i think of Canadian movies, but perhaps another time. 😊

Philipp Roensch

I find Juno only terribly aged, but I guess you will have fun with it. My vote is for Argo!

Ballsac McGee

This is not as popular, but there was a movie called the kid detective which I found to be quite excellent.

Messenjaah

you are missing Cube (1997)

PickettsChargingPort

Juno winning is appropriate but I HAD to vote for Strange Brew. Such an off the wall goofy film. Not sure if having no 'SCTV' context would help or hurt that film.

Travis

You guys are going to LOVE Juno!

lastsplash

Add me as another suggesting Canadian Bacon

David Weinstein

Holy carp, Strange Brew! I have no words. Had to vote for it.

Jeff K.

By the way, George and Simone... just saying, Strange Brew is free to watch on YouTube.

Labcurmudgeon79

Did you guys already watch The Boondock Saints? Not set in Canada, but I believe it was a Canadian production. Might be wrong.

Jobbe Smit

Gotta admit I only ever seen Argo and didn't particularly enjoy it.

Rachel W

Juno a Canadian movie? It was written by Diablo Cody, an American w/American producers(John Malkovich)and an American film company. Director is Canadian, of course and it's star-who gives a fantastic performance. Still, I voted for it because it's so well written and smart and acted-the whole, great cast. It's hilarious! You'll love it. My suggestion for a Canadian film is the adult animation and greatest stoner movie EVER, "Heavy Metal". 1981 ‧ Fantasy/Sci-fi. Stars John Candy and Eugene Levy.

Ed Stephens

Argo is not a Canadian movie even President Carter said it wasn't accurate. It gives the CIA to much credit and erases what Canadians actually achieved. Add some Canadian cult classics to future lists: Johnny Mnemonic, Bon Cop Bad Cop, Men with Brooms, Gunless, and all the Atom Egoyan films

Trevor S

Movie suggestion unrelated to poll: I would love for you two to check out the movie "Time Trap" (2017). It is a fairly low budget (~$1mil) sci-fi that I absolutely love. I believe it has an interesting and unique take on some physics/sci-fi concepts.

Dan Holmes

I don't know what criteria you are using to determine if it is a Canadian film but you 100% need to watch THE EDGE 1997. Filmed in the Alberta wilderness it's a David Mamet Survival film with Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins, amazing highly underrated underwatched 90s film. Pls put it on a list somewhere :)

davetheimp

Sad to see Snow Walker with so few votes. Such a beautiful film.

David Zabel

I would do Strange Brew just for the MGM intro alone.

Brianna Williams

Juno is one of my favorite movies of all time. Super quotable, endearing - I'm excited to watch y'all's reaction to it.

Girthquake23

Cmon Goon! I need a lot of people to vote for Goon out of nowhere

Zipper

It’s a jelly

RipTheRipper

Requests: - Bottle Rocket (1996) - Junebug (2005) - Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015) - Hollywood Shuffle (1987) - The Squid and the Whale (2005) - Winter's Bone (2010)

Dustin Duvall

The first episode of letterkenny!

Zipper

Gold Leader from Star Wars is in strange brew

Ray H

Love Juno. Glad it won.

Brandon Meng

Juno is A++++. Not sure why Argo received hate, it's a fantastic movie too.

Happy Hanukkah

Given Juno and Argo, another suggestion for a movie based on a successful novel by a Canadian author, and filmed and set partly in Canada: Life of Pi (2012). (By the way, TIL that Irrfan Khan passed away four years ago.)

Monica Alarcon

I'm glad Juno won but it's kind of a lose-lose for you guys. No matter what name or pronouns you use for the protagonist someone is going to get offended or angry. I say just don't mind about that and enjoy the movie...
