WHY? Just why?!

E. D.

how drago became prettier lmao

Zombie Brad

Always hated the robot lol you guys really should watch the rest before creed tho 💚

Rayna & Mike Sitter

YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH THE NEXT TWO MOVIES. ROCKY 6 IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPACTFUL OF THE ENTIRE SERIES.

Chris B

Rocky 6 (Rocky Balboa) is excellent, and then Creeds are masterpieces.

Matt O'Keefe

This is the one I liked the absolute least. V is back to a story.

megamoo chilli

A third of Rocky 4 is montage. Now you've watched this you should watch Red Sonja staring Brigitte Nielsen. If you like Lord of the Rings, you'll love Red Sonja, its basically the same in quality.

Thomas Thompson

I don't like 5, most people don't, but it is kinda necessary to understand certain characters life positions in the Creed movies and 6 is a genuine good movie so it shouldn't be skipped anyway

Nick Sillett

Def watch 5 and 6 before creed.

Jeff K

The setup of Rocky Balboa is pretty dumb, which makes it even more amazing that the movie is actually pretty damn good. Rocky V is a good one to watch basically just to laugh at how bad it is (though it does have one of the most emotionally impactful moments of the entire series, during the climax).

Dwight Scarn

I enjoyed this one but this is when Rocky became more of a fantasy.

Jeff K

For a movie that's relatively short on dialogue and is mostly just montages, this one definitely has some of the most memorable quotes of the entire series... "Whatever he hits, he destroys!" "If he dies, he dies." "I must break you." "You can't win!"

Byron

I think the graphic novel Simone is reading is Lore Olympus! It’s a good series! I think another book gets released next month.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Definitely do not skip the next two Rocky movies before doing Creed, it would be one of the biggest mistakes you can make watching a franchise

Phillyman!!

Imo you can skip 5 but watch 6 DEFINITELY

Julian G

Now this is the most American Movie you guys have ever seen. KAW! (soars the eagle)

Phillyman!!

Rocky 6 basically ignores the 5th movie

jmundt33a

A little late for April Fool’s aren’t we? Cinecringe all the way. Ahnuld has said in at least one interview that RS is the film he threatened to punish his kids with because it was SO bad. Given his filmography, that’s quite a statement.

Jeff K

George, the Cold War ended not long after Rocky IV. So, by my estimation, you can’t prove Rocky WASN’T the reason for the fall of the Iron Curtain. Check and mate.

Grand Moff Slackin'

I grew up with Rocky IV as a kid and as far as I’m concerned Rocky brought down the Soviet Union.

jmundt33a

Watch 6. Skip 5. It can be summarized as injury, plus Paulie doing the investment speculation from Cocktail.

miniature

cause ppl said they need to do rocky 4 in rocky 3 video? cause ppl kept telling them to finish franchises so theyre doing exactly whats being asked? or are you asking why do people like different things than you.

Christina Doxstader

you should watch the next 2 movies. They give context to where Rocky is when Creed starts.

Lee Meehan

"Rocky V" is beyond terrible and you'll miss nothing skipping it.

Gatsby

Please watch Cloud Atlas 😊 Btw you have to go through the entire Rocky catalog, it will pay off for The Creed Saga🤘🏻 stay rad 🙂

Nathan Swapp

The Robot is just a 80s rich guy toy. I didn't expect it to throw you guys for such a loop. It's like having those dumb plastic robot dog toys in a movie about the early 2000s

miniature

lol really you cant understand why people find it confounding that a franchise that started as very grounded and real in the struggle of its protagonist ends up having a sci fi level robot of which one of the lead characters is having sex with? you really didnt expect them to find it insane? lol

Henry Sanchez

Yeah you gotta do Rocky 5 and Balboa first before Creed. It’s a franchise for a reason. Trust me it matters for a complete story

Justin Feldman

It's like a dance... a beautiful dance, with a chainsaw.

Alexrandom

To me this film is awful but I love it so much :') Definitely watch 5, it's not good but skipping a movie doesn't makes sense to me. Love Rocky 6. With the first one it's my favourite in the series. I hope you guys like it as much as I do. Creed is pretty good. A nice follow up to 6. When it comes to Rambo I'd say the first one is the only good one. Not only good but important and I'd almost go as far as to say it's a masterpiece... Edit: just finished the video and I heard Simone say she wouldn't have put the robot in the film. Simone, I have this question for you: have you no heart ? This poor little robot is the only good thing in this whole mess :'( Thanks for the reaction guys !

Chase Schleich

You can skip 5 and go straight to Rocky Balboa without missing anything. He dropped the title to fight Drago and was severely injured in the fight so he retired afterwards. Then we pick up his story again at Rocky Balboa.

Joe Williams

Rocky IV is not a good movie, but it is also The Best Movie.

mojo shivers

The fact Dolph Lundgren has two degrees in Chemical Emgineering and yet looks convincing as someone who can kill Rocky makes me think he was the inspiration for Jules in Twins, the whole brains with brawn combo.

LPWVIII

Yeah give 5 a swerve Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) is a must before the Creed films

E. D.

wayne‘s world 2 any time soon? 🤔

WanderingDroidd

Story wise, you dont HAVE to watch 5. Id LIKE you to but its not mandatory for the bigger picture. Rocky Balboa though (or Rocky 6) wraps things up nicely for Creed to become the new story so Id really encourage at least watching this before moving onto Creed.

Happy Hanukkah

My two cents: I don't particularly mind if you end here, or add at most only the first Creed. But if you're going the full franchise route, it's silly to skip Rocky V.

MR

This movie was SUPER banned in the Soviet Union. Rambo movies too, although they allowed First Blood around 1988ish. By the way, you may skip Rocky 5, but you _should_ watch Rocky VI (1986), by renowned Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki. It's only 8 minutes long and available on Youtube. In fact it would be a pretty great reaction.

Matt

So, the robot… you gotta remember, personal computers exploded on the scene around this time and people were just like ‘the future is here’. This movie, among others, is peak 80s.

Happy Hanukkah

Next thing you'll want them to react to Leningrad Cowboys Go America! :-) By the way, one would think that First Blood (and First Blood only!) would actually appeal to the Soviet gatekeepers.

dudewheresmycar

Skip Rocky 5 as even Stallone thinks its dogshit. However the following movie Rocky balboa is excellent and has story elements that show up in Creed so cannot be skipped. Creed is superb though and might just be the best movie of the entire series.

Tim f

Please do not skip 5 , it’s not the best but since you’re doing creeds

Tim f

it is a pretty big part of Rocky’s story arc ….gotta do them all !

Tim f

And for that matter, Balboa is excellent!

Jeff Klonowski

You should put Masters Of The Universe in a poll

Darin Foat

I never saw Rocky V or VI, but I thought Creed was a masterpiece. And I didn't feel like I was missing anything I needed to know.

James Smith

This is the first movie I watched at the movie theater. I was 5 or 6 years old.

Robert Cooper

Need to see more Rocky movies? You're in the bad ones already. :P Go watch Creed.

Aaron Farrell

I would say you can skip 5 but rocky balboa is pretty good

JBK405

This is where the franchise became essentially a parody of itself. Rocky had a Rags-to-Riches story in the first three films, but now he's super wealthy and giving out robots to his friends. The first film had an inspiring and moving training montage, this film has multiple montages that take up a significant percentage of its running time. The first film had Rocky going The Distance against a more experienced, trained fighter, this one has him beating somebody who out-masses him so significantly that his actor put Sly in the hospital when he punched him just once "for real". I can laugh at the goofiness and take it in good fun, but if you ask me for a thought-out analysis this movie is pretty much garbage. Rocky V is generally regarded as the worst in the series, but the sixth film (Rocky Balboa) is pretty necessary if you're going to go into the Creed films. It's not plot-critical in the sense that you won't understand the Creed films, but it's got the stepping stones for important emotional connections.

Barry G

To answer your question: NO, you do NOT need to see Rocky 5. Go straight to Creed. rocky 4 is the perfect jumping off point into Creed. The Rocky movies after 4 are trash. Okay, that's harsh. They're complete shit.

Hamesque

I'd agree with the post above that recommends Rocky Balboa between this and Creed. Brings the tone back to Rocky levels with serious/grounded personal stuff and over the top sports nonsense.

Matthew Wabals

… YOU KNOW PAULIE’s SLEEPING WITH IT …. Oh 100%. ( I’m dead )

John McLeod

Rocky V may not be the best but you need to watch them all. It’s the Rocky saga and it’s annoying when people say to miss certain films out because they don’t like them. You need to watch them and decide for yourself. Personally, Rocky V does play into Creed and you will see when you watch them both. And Rocky Balboa is great.

Chris Kimmel

You need to watch rocky 5 and rocky Balboa

Jeff K

You know you've hit the genetic lottery when you are smart enough to earn a full ride to MIT, but you're so big and ripped and have such perfect facial structure that someone says "No you should be a model and an actor instead."

Adam K

Rocky V is so bad - maybe just watch it silently and THEN go back to reactions with Rocky Balboa. Once you get to Rocky Balboa and the Creeds - they are all fantastic.

Den Radar Ryan

The Rocky series has been a huge part of my life. I saw Rocky 3,4,5,6 all in the theatre with my Dad as they were released and we rented them often. Eventually I trained as a boxer in my teens while powerlifting. These movies never get old. In 2001 I got to run up the 'Rocky steps' at the art museum in Philadelphia. A moment I'll always remember. 🥊♥️

James Falato

IV is where Rocky starts being made for Only The Money...

Maerandir Eldar

The idea of robot butlers was high chic during the 80's in the US, so while dating it, this aspect of the movie really does track. I remember from 1984 to 1987, Sears touted the Omnibot series, some very expensive robot servant toys, the best of which - Omnibot 2000, could either be controlled with a wired remote, or pre-programmed with movement commands (the same logic board was placed in a Voltron robot toy in '86 to great effect), and could be told to "serve" drinks, as long as you used their very specific pitcher, cup, and tray to do it.

Bill B.

I think you could skip Rocky V, but I would not skip BALBOA. just for one scene which is one of the best scenes ever. CREED I & II are phenomenal, I think there is a bit of a drop off in CREED III but it’s still enjoyable to watch and (unless they make another one) pretty much wraps everything up.

Bill B.

I second this. Cloud Atlas was one of the weirdest but coolest movies I’ve ever seen.

Happy Hanukkah

I just realized I neglected to answer George's question at 20:20 about Drago and Rocky's respective physical training. This can be seen as an extreme version of the free weights vs machines debate. You could take a glance at the following for a quick overview: https://www.builtlean.com/free-weights-vs-machines/ TLDR: At this level, machines allow you to train in a much more focused and targeted way, while free weights give you holistic whole-body benefits*. Presumably non-coincidentally, this echoes the economic debate between the free-market vs centrally-planned systems. The first is organic, while the second depends on the ability of experts to get things right. TLDR version of Mises and Hayek regarding the second: "You think that a group of experts, no matter how brilliant, can actively manage something as complicated as a national economy? Good luck!" Going back to the initial question, the parallels are once again obvious. (Granted, if Rocky had chopped off a finger or lost some toes to frostbite...) * (Despite the airy-fairy vocabulary, I mean this in the most hardheaded pragmatic way. :-) )

Happy Hanukkah

Since I'm already here: 1. I've always loved the shot at 27:56. It could almost be framed and entitled New Soviet Man vs Parasitic Class. :-) :-) :-) 2. Again, doing Rocky 1-4 and Creed 1-2 is not entirely unreasonable. Doing all movies (1-6, 1-3) except for Rocky 5 is silly. This is an objective expert assessment. :-)

Steve Molloy

Rocky V is pretty bad, but kinda worth watching for Richman Gant's over the top performance as Duke. Definitely a dig at Don King. I don't think it's bad enough to skip if you're watching the whole series

Steve Molloy

Definitely don't skip Rocky Balboa, it's really good. My second favorite Rocky. Rocky I is undefeated. And yeah, watch them before starting Creed

James Stephenson

Rocky 5 is essential to understand aspects of the creed movies

Joe

Even though 5 isn't great I wouldn't skip it. DO NOT SKIP ROCKY BALBOA please.

GumpOfThunder

If you want to know more about Dolph Lundgren (Drago). Look at his TED-talk. One of the most powerful ones.
