... ok, so you have now watched all the Rockys worth the watch.... stop there ❗️ especially the next one, Rocky 5.... holy Fudge, this one is terrible 🤢 ... please... for you... for your Rocky experience... don't watch this crap, and just stop there 🙏

JoshG

I definitely prefer this one over 3.

Elvenwitch

I am not sure why, but when I woke up I thought it said Dune 2. I was so excited. Now I am bummed.

Deco

Rocky 4 is great,Rocky 5 terrible. You can skip it and do the creed movie without missing anything

Haye Zeus

I don’t think they need to skip the other Rocky movies after this to get to Creed. Rocky 5 is the lamest but it’s still watchable. That can lead them into Rocky 6 which is a charming comeback movie. And then that leads into Rocky 7: Adrian’s Revenge which rules.

djKENTO

Stallone recently completely re-edited this film using alternative takes in the fights and removing Pauly’s robot. I’d love to see you both return to that edit after you work through Creed…

FWPJR.

Heck yes, I can’t wait to watch you two react to this. Some people don’t like it, but I think it’s one of the best Rocky movies. Rocky 5 is meh, but still has some good moments. But Balboa is fantastic, so definitely worth watching.

FWPJR.

Balboa is really good, and definitely worth watching. And if they want to skip 5 I’m ok with that.

Simone's Coconut Squire

Stallone insisted the fights were as real as possible and ended up severely injured from the hits from Dolf and ended up in the hospital

GoodManTheDan

Joining those who are saying I think you can skip 5 without missing anything but Balboa is great bookend to Rocky 1 and a great bridge to Creed.

djKENTO

So there’s actually a really sweet reason for the robot. The robot is Sico, a creation of International Robotics Inc. The robot was being used in a form of therapy with Stallone’s son Seargeoh who is autistic. When Stallone started Rocky IV he brought the robot into the film as a way to keep his son close and make him happy.

djKENTO

One last thing… Dolph Lundgren’s life story is WILD. He’s also the nicest celebrity I’ve met outside of Elijah Wood and Keanu Reeves. He was born in Sweden, got into Karate, won a bunch of tournaments, was super smart and decided to be an engineer like his father. Became a chemical engineer, then got a full scholarship to MIT of all fucking places and decided to become an actor. The rest is history. Also to answer George’s question about Guile from Street Fighter… the answer is yes but no. Guile is based on Rudol von Stroheim from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but Rudol is based on Ivan Drago… Tho… a nazi… not Russian or a US Soldier.

djKENTO

I lied about it being one more thing. Rocky V is the WORST of the movies… but considering they’re all good except THAT ONE is pretty impressive. It’s part of the journey.. you gotta go through it and Rocky Balboa. Rocky Balboa is maybe the most necessary to work to Creed actually. It shows you were Rocky is in the 2000s and fills you in on 15 years of backstory before Creed. It also makes me cry every time cuz it’s so heartfelt. It’s maybe my 3rd favorite after 1 and 2.

JoshG

Rocky 5 isn’t as good as the others but still worth a watch. Doesn’t really make sense skip a movie

Dioskur

I saw this movie first when I was a young boy and it was the most awesome thing in the world. Today I see that its just rotten cheese, but I still love it for nostalgic reasons. About watching the others. Yes, do so. Rocky4 and Rocky5 are the weakest in the series, for different reasons. But Rocky Balboa, the 6th, completes the cyrcle and is great. So you need to see it. And there just is no reason to skip 5 in between. A lot of story in there.

Victor Fiegel

Rocky 5 is terrible. The only people who like it are people who saw it as children. You can skip it and you won't miss anything! It isn't worth reacting to.

Martin

Loving the Rocky reactions guys. DO NOT skip Rocky V, it will make no sense to skip it, as it has vital story sequences that are carried forward into Rocky Balboa (2006), which you also DO NOT want to skip. You will be very confused going into Creed otherwise. Honestly, as someone who is a tough sell, Rocky V is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be, even if not on the level of the rest of the franchise. But yeah, it's an important entry regardless, anyone saying skip it (and Rocky Balboa) to get to Creed is being selfish.

Nathan Swapp

Rocky Balboa (2006) is vital.

Orphan Crippler

Rocky's speech at the end was like a mix between Martin Luther King and Spongebob Squarepants

Chase Lonnergan

As someone who has trained for boxing, and other sports, I can easily answer George's question on machines vs free-training. Both have their advantages, machine training is safer, certainly, but free-training builds muscle and conditions better. When you are training with a machine, you are targeting specific muscles and moving them in controlled and limited direction, this trains the muscles to move in that specific way, both physically and psychologically. Free-training not only exercises the same muscle groups, but also activates the support muscles necessary to perform the movements with the guidance of the machine, which not only has a physical effect of increased muscle development, but allows you to work longer because your primary muscles exert less due to the assistance of the support muscles, but it also puts you remind in the space of using your whole body in concert, instead of specifically focused on one muscle or group of muscles.

E. D.

Yeah, in their shoes I‘d be curious what‘s going on in part V even if it isn‘t as good as the other movies.

Spacedone

You're right about Rocky starting as a love story and turning into "America! Fuck yeah!". Stallone's career seemed to go that way. I feel that in Stallone's early career he wasn't trying to be the action star he became and was writing films that he could be an actor in, which is why both First Blood and the early Rocky movies have more serious storylines and messages, but he kinda got pulled into the more generic 80s action/comedy movie genre after First Blood and more or less stayed that way until Copland (which you should definitely watch).

C Perry

To answer the question regarding the MGM lion, yes he has a name. There have been around 8-10 MGM lions since the 1920s. They were all known as "Leo" since the silent era ended, but they weren't really named Leo. They had names like Slats, Coffee, amd Jackie to name a few. The lion seen in Rocky 4 is the current lion, the only lion actually named Leo. Leo was born in 1956 and took over thr MGM mascot duties in 1957. He is also the current MGM lion despite being long dead. Currently MGM uses a CGI version of Leo for all their films. Also, watch Rocky V and Rocky Balboa. If you start on a film franchise journey, you should watch them all. No matter how bad or critically panned or acclaimed they are. It's a disservice to the entirety of the story to skip. Watch them and form your own opinions on them.

Monica Alarcon

Just adding my vote: Yes, please watch Rocky V And Rocky Balboa and Top Secret

Poddington

George this is why you shouldn't have random thoughts :D

Brent bmc_comix

This movie's awesome, I will say I do think the director's cut has alot of great scenes and highlights the film's depth and remove a bit of the cheese (yes that means the robot lol) you should definitely check it out before started Creed BUT DO NOT SKIP THE NEXT TWO ROCKY MOVIES!!! they all contain good bits (6 is sometimes my personal second favorite) and also important plot wise. But great reaction guys! On to Rocky 5!!!

REDR58

It’s too bad they didn’t notice the discussion about this before concerning the director’s cut. Oh well.

REDR58

Copland is excellent, probably his best movie after the original Rocky.

Poddington

5 years after this movie the Soviet Union collapsed. Some might say it was for other reasons, but I think we all know it's because of Rocky Balboa :D

Martin Nicholls

The one where Rocky goes Riker Season 2 (if you know, you know). Yeah, Drago has no intent or malice. Yeah I don't know, if Creed doesn't die I'm not sure there's a whole lot of "substance" to this one. Amateur in boxing can be incredibly misleading as a term - they do state that he was Olympic champion - Rocky would have been *so* far off that standard; the differentiator in boxing is all about money. I think it's okay, but there are parts that are a bit cringe for me, some people actually really like this one, I can watch it, and I did here - but it's very unconvincing. I'd seriously forget about the robot, it does absolutely make zero sense :p On the Creed fight, yeah, a lot of people involved in that would have been banned from involvement in boxing ever again - I'd say the responsibility is on the referee and Rocky; Rocky knows the fighter, the referee is generally responsible for the safety of the fighters. On what comes next it'd be nice to say 5 was expendable, but without 5 a bunch of things, situations and the stances of characters of later movies that are key are going to make no sense or if not that you won't know where those situations originate - IDK, maybe it'll turn out to be you guys' favourite ;) Even if you do skip 5, definitely Rocky Balboa anyway, and it sounds like you're both set on starting Creed.

Our Patrons thought we were a myth. Well... They were MYTH taken.

🖤This movie unlocked a memory from when I was a kid as well as reminded me of a question asked on a previous video which was something along the lines of "what was something dumb you used to think as a kid." There's one I didn't mention (cuz forgot) and it's because of this movie. As a kid I used to think men grew beards because of sweat. I thought the sweat causes beards to grow in the same fashion water causes plants to grow. So if you did "manly" things and sweated a lot, you'd grow a beard. #StupidBabiesNeedTheMostAttention.

Einherj

This is just one long muscle montage, and it's great.

Richard Royston

I love this movie , mostly because the soundtrack

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Gonna be the contrarian here and say I enjoy 5, even with all its flaws, over the original version of 4. Admittedly though they’re both low points in the franchise. I love 80s cheese as much as many of my fellow patrons but even with all its iconic moments Rocky 4 just does not do it for me. And y’all quickly picked up that the original cut barely has a plot. Would be interesting if y’all gave Rocky IV a second bout in the form of the recent Director’s Cut at some point.

Requests: - Lamb (2021) - The Impossible (2012) - Precious (2009) - Swingers (1996) - Dog Day Afternoon (1975) - Last Night In Soho (2021)

Christian Rennie

Yes, this is Montage the movie. On Simone's comment about a clip show. Yes it is important to watch Rocky 5 and Rocky Balboa. Both are important to the story and how Rocky's life changes. George definitely touched on how Rocky 4 is of its time. Rocky 5 is also of its time. Not the best movie in the world but it is a product of the world around it.

Mitchell Bowker

The CREED films are a direct continuation of the Rocky series, so skipping the next 2 films wouldn’t make sense. Father/Son mentor relationships play a big part of the rest of the series and that all starts in V, and Balboa is a great film!

Lana Gorgeous

The great American and World Champion Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali used to cut down trees at his Deer Lake Pennsylvania Training Camp to help prepare him for his fights :)

Lana Gorgeous

There was a boxer in American who at the time seemed invincible named George Forman. He fought Ali and some people who knew boxing that Ali may be actually killed in the ring against Foreman. But Ali beat the odds and knocked out Foreman in the 8th Round. A great, great documentary is When We Were Kings https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118147/

Skyruff

It’s difficult to say what Rocky 4 meant to Americans unless you lived through the 70s-80s. It’s the least Rocky of the Rocky/Creed franchise, but it stands as one of the greatest 80’s themed movies. Everything at that time was USA vrs USSR. Rocky 4 was all that and really not the intrapersonal stories each of the other movies have.

Paul Davey

Stallone gives Rocky V a score of 0/10 and said he only did it out of greed. Interestingly though, Stallone has said he always had Rocky's life parallel his own. When Stallones life was good, so was Rocky's, and same again when life was bad so in a way all the movies are a nessessity to watch. And the thing about the robot: "look at all the cool things you can buy with American capitalism"

Skylar Burns

You can def go straight to creed after this. Rocky 5 is shite anyway.

Radwar

If you skip the last 2 Rocky's then you'll be wondering what the heck happened, also Rocky Balboa is one of the best Rocky movies.

Theoshin

rocky 5 gets a lot of shit, but i think its still worth a lot and has some relevance over all to the future movies including creed. I have watched all the rocky movies many many times and 5 is still my least favorite but it has key moments and storylines that play into creed. And i mean come on there is 6 rocky movies they can't all be great. Also 6th is unskippable period.

Tony E Crumpton

Rocky IV is peak 80's. Stallone's cut, the one he did a couple of years ago, removes the robot and a lot of the cheesier stuff. My opinion is you should skip 5, watch Rocky Balbo (one of the better films in the franchise, feeling more like the original), and then do the Creed movies.

David Crabtree

Do NOT skip Rocky 5 or Rocky Balboa (aka Rocky 6). Like the previous films, each movie builds on the next, and the first Creed film is essentially Rocky 7. Also, Rocky 5 is an underrated gem, with Stallone and Talia Shire doing some of their best character work as Rocky and Adrian since the first 2 movies. Plus, Rocky 5 returns to the tone of the first 2 films, away from the flashy 90 minute music video that was Rocky 4 (which I still love). And Rocky Balboa (Rocky 6) is as powerful and emotional as the first 2 films.

Colby Sanders

5 is irrelevant to Rockys eventual journey but is good for a few giggles, but Balboa I feel is essential viewing for understanding his transition from fighter to teacher in the creed movies later

zak

"A beautiful dance... with a chainsaw", I finally understood a Simone quote!

Haye Zeus

Finally watched the reaction. Yeah this movie has a lot of weakness. But to most of us around my age group it was probably our fav and the one we grew up watching more than the other ones. So you will see a lot of us quote this movie a lot more. “I will break you” “if he dies…he dies”. “And everyone can CHAAANGE!”. To us it’s the most fun. Objectively the other movies are better made. But not grabs our nostalgia more I think. Especially with a fondness for the 80’s. This is top tier 80’s extravagance and it is gorgeous to look at.

Jesse Coombs

That was fun. I think it would be really cool if you guys would react to Scorsese's "Raging Bull". It's also a boxing movie, but man it is so different. It's also a masterpiece.

Tay Schumaker

I still get chills from Duke’s speech before the final round. There's no stopping us now. This is our round. No stopping now! You start, and you don't stop! All your strength! All your power! All your love! Everything you've got! To win, you have to knock him out! Punch till you can't punch no more! This is your whole life here! Knock him out. Do it now!

Tay Schumaker

Also Stallone is ridiculously shredded in this movie

Tay Schumaker

5 sets up some stuff for 6 and the Creed movies. 6 I feel like is essential to watch before watching Creed

John

Creed is a great movie and I think you will really enjoy it. Rocky V is bad, but will help you understand Rocky VI and Creed better. Boxing matches can, unfortunately, have deaths. I have seen this movie more times than I can remember but I did notice something new in this watch. You could argue there maybe some potential consequences for Drago as the referee clearly tried to stop the fight in the second round before Apollo died. If you did not follow the referees instructions and killed an opponent by punching after the stoppage. I imagine there would be potential charges. Thanks as always for a great watch. I think the director's cut adds alot as it removes the robot story line and adds to Rocky and Apollo's relationship.

ScivarWarlock

Was looking forward to two parts of this reaction. Creed fighting Drago and the robot. Was not disappointed, laughed maybe too hard at the reaction to the robot. 🥊🤖 I think Rocky 4 gave us some great music but it's definitely the weakest of the four. I've seen all four movies and the Creed movies, but never seen Rocky 5 or Rocky Balboa. Can definitely enjoy the Creed arc without them.

Tay Schumaker

George you’re just too young to remember that Rocky won the Cold War

REDR58

If you feel like you wanna get to the Creed movies faster I would at least watch Rocky VI (“Rocky Balboa”) and skip V but I don’t see the problem completing the original 6. V has some bright spots. A movie you should check out is “Red Heat” from 1988 with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Belushi. It’s about Soviet Police officer who comes to the US in pursuit of a criminal. It’s cheesy, but fun.

Christopher Greenley

Expect for Rocky 5. I'd do Rocky Balboa. It got great reviews unlike 5.

Jake Dinkel

Stallone said a few years ago that he directed this movie like a music video. MTV had just blown up and he was going for a music video style, hence all the montages. He released a new edit in 2021 called Rocky Vs Drago.

Lyle Morgan

I cannot understand anyone advocating for Rocky 5. It is an abomination and it is completely not relevant to the rest of the series. Balboa is meh, but nowhere near as stupid at 5. You can skip to Creed easily and not miss a beat.

An Inanimate Fucking Object

Congrats, you've now watched perhaps the most 80s movie ever! Definitely a cheesy one, not one of my favorite Rocky's (second-to-last actually, after Rocky 5)

An Inanimate Fucking Object

I don't particularly care if you watch Rocky 5, but please watch Rocky 6 (called Rocky Balboa) before jumping to the Creed movies. It is a return to the more grounded, emotional core of the original one or two movies and I think it provides important emotional context for the Creed movies (including necessary progression of certain characters that I guarantee you will feel like you missed if you jumped straight to Creed)

An Inanimate Fucking Object

Unless I’m mistaken, Drago’s punches that killed Creed were not after the bell. Yes, he hit Creed after the bell at the end of the first round, which is fucked up, but then he knocked him out in the middle of the second round. But yes, if he had knocked him out intentionally after the bell resulting in his death, it might be a different story, probably not murder but maybe manslaughter

Paul Peavler

Robots were really popular in the US in the 80s as both toys and tech gadgets, and they were marketed as the future for home assistance. Think of it like smart speakers a few years ago. It’s why Nintendo launched the NES in a bundle with ROB the robot add-on in the US in 85, they thought it would help them sell it as a robotic toy instead of a video game system since video games had a bad name in the US after the crash in 83 but robots were a hot item. That’s why this movie (also from 85) has the robot in the beginning.

MacGuffinStuff

Sylvester Stallone will be remembered for multiple franchises he's led, but I think Rocky will definitely be his truest legacy. These movies are so great, watching the montage with the previous movies, showing Mickey, and young Adrian and Rocky and Apollo, these movies have their own internal nostalgia. This is probably my least favorite of the franchise, most people I think say Rocky 5 is the worst but I actually like it, and I do think you guys should watch all of the movies, including the Creed movies of course.

Paul Peavler

I don’t think they were implying that the Soviet Union was going to change, I think the message was supposed to be that people on both sides could change how they feel about each other, and learn to respect each other instead of being so antagonistic. Rocky 4 is definitely the shallowest of the movies, but it’s also very fun, peak 80s, from the montages to the music to the robots and everything. It was an attempt to put Rocky back in the underdog role which he hadn’t really had since the first movie and it was decently successful at that IMO. It’s a very mixed movie for me, I have a lot of nostalgia for it seeing it on TV all the time when I was a kid, but as an adult it feels very jingoistic and basic. As for the next two movies, I’d say watch them. Rocky 5 is decent for a while but the third act is an absolute dumpster fire IMO and that makes it by far the worst of the series, but there are still some important things to get from it. Rocky Balboa is actually very good though, and a real return to form, feeling more like the first two movies than 3-5.

JayF

About the "filler" in this one. Remember this was also 1985 when MTV was at the height of its popularity. The huge history montage was basically a music video for that song.

JayF

George and Simone, if you want to watch a very interesting documentary check out Icarus on Netflix. It's about the Russian doping (steroid) system they had been using since the late 60s. Here's the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXoRdSTrR-4

FrancescoTakesItEasy

Even if you don't do Rocky V for the channel, maybe you can do it as a Patreon exclusive? I'd love to watch you finish this whole series, ups and downs all the same. And Rocky V is, like, the only real stinker in this series.

Alan Kobb

The robot is called SICO. It is a real thing. It was developed to help autistic children communicate. One of Sylvester Stallone's sons is autistic, and it was developed for him, so Stallone included it in the movie. The creator of SICO received royalties for it's use in the movie, and the appearance also generated more attention and research funds.

droodly

My uncle took me to this movie when I was 8, and my only takeaway was I WANT A ROBOT! I watched it again with you, and nothing has changed.

Kim Brink

You have to watch Rocky 5-6 to have the whole Rocky experience. Rocky 6 (Balboa) is the best imo of the last 2

John

I think he keeps punching him after the referee tries to stop the fight in the 2nd round

Korpse

straight to creed definitely lol

Trevor S Bright

You guys DEF have to watch "Rocky 5" & "Rocky Balboa". 5 is definitely underrated. And 6 just pulls on the heartstrings.

Harry Fieldson

Might get a lot of hate for this but I actually think Creed 1 is one of the best films in the Rocky franchise - would highly recommend it

Justtired

Rocky 5 is probably the most divisive among fans. It’s the weakest of the series, in my opinion. But, much like the average Back to the Future 2 is needed to get to the superior 3, Rocky 5 is a transitional movie. Rocky Balboa is a proper ending to the Rocky-centric series. Creed is a return to the heart of the the first two.

Farbod

Not a fan of looking at the cast before watching these. The less you know the better the reaction.

Alex Wong

Wonder when you guys are going to continue, would love to see you guys react to Creed.
