Those are close up solar eruptions for the opening credits. Also the scenes in the house were really uneasy to film, a neighbour burning chickens, the cast just throwing up by the window between two "cut".

Looking forward to watching this with a beer this evening! You guys NEED to check out the Thriller/Horror Eden Lake. It features Michael Fassbender among others. To this day the ending sticks in my head.

What is really amazing with this movie is actually you don't see anything, almost no blood. It's just all in the greasy mood, hot sun, unhealthy atmosphere.

Gunnar Hansen (the actor who plays Leatherface) was cast almost exclusively because of his size. The story is that when he showed up to the audition, he had to duck to go through the door frame and they pretty much gave him the part on the spot.

They've done the first Saw movie, so I'm sure they could do Hellraiser. This is at the top of my wish list for a reaction!

Seriously, my absolute favorite horror movie and one of my favorites of all time. The filmmaking, the realism, the unrelenting terror that’s so omnipresent is unmatched by anything else. The making of of this film was hellish. That iconic dinner table scene took over 27 hours to film in 110 degree Texas heat, plus the filming lights meant all the food on the table quickly rotted, and the room's poor ventilation made the reek even worse, raising it to genuinely health-threatening levels. Every on set and the actors lost their mind on this film. The moment when Sally’s finger gets cut is real. They had a tube that shot the fake blood, but it kept clogging, and, finally, after several takes without the tube working right, Hansen simply sliced Marilyn Burns' finger open. This was shot in the back end of the 27-hour shoot. Edwin Neal, who played the Hitchhiker, said that making the film was more miserable than his service in Vietnam and said that he might kill director Tobe Hooper if he ever saw him again. When you see Gunnar Hansen chase Sally with a chainsaw in the woods, he’s using a real chainsaw. So when you see Sally screaming for her life, that’s Burns genuinely being scared of being hit by the chainsaw. The narrator of the film in the opening was compensated with a joint.

What's funny is that the one scene where they explicitly show something (the finger being cut at the dinner) is absolutely real (the on-set effect wasn't working and everybody was frustrated in the smelly heat, so Gunnar just cut her finger for real).

The morning after the night I first watched this, I was woken up by the sound of hedgetrimmers right outside my window (it was the landscaping crew of the apartment complex).

John Larroquette, the narrator of the opening text, is actually now a very famous actor who's had a very long career in television (and movies), including Night Court, The Practice, Boston Legal, The Librarians, and The West Wing. This narration is his first credited role. He even reprised his role as the narrator for the 2003 remake, 2006 prequel, and the 2022 sequel!

Shane Willis

The fact that this is loosely based on Ed Gein is terrifying. He inspire a lot of films. Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, and others. He was a real creepy person.

A giant stack of cheese? Yes, please.

Okay, in addition to all the disturbing scenes overall, seeing this on a big screen with that whole dinner table torture scene and those extreme close-ups of her eyes and the screaming was INTENSE. There hadn't really been a film like this before with mainstream appeal and it's low-budget added to making it feel almost more realistic. About 10 years before this, director H.G. Lewis was making "hillbilly horror" films like "Two Thousand Maniacs" with WAY more gore, but they were super low-budget films and almost more camp than realistic, and also mostly shown in grindhouse theatres that regular moviegoers didn't go to. Years ago I went by the gas station and houses from this film (the houses are actually right across the street from each other). Great reaction to a classic horror film.

TCM2 has a lot of parallels with Gremlins 2.

The dinner table scene was the best part of the movie for me, by far, in that it was truly horrific and very well-acted. I didn't find the movie scary at all, but more disturbing than anything. Kind of like "Hereditary."

? watched the full length, not the case. prob just the edit. actually im watching it now and comparing it to the unedited version, the edit cuts out the space between scary stuff and talking. so it feels like it goes from scary to talking directly. in the unedited, neither is talking right over actual scary events. in fact they cut themselves off if something occurs in the middle of a sentence.

Gatsby

In my opinion, the 2003 remake isn’t that bad, worth a look🤷🏻‍♂️

Also, please watch Cloud Atlas if you can 😃

Great movie, dated as hell, that chainsaw really did cut into his leg with a lump of steak strapped to a steel plate, yada yada. SASQUATCH SUNSET is on streaming now and you need to get it on a "weird as fuck but funny as hell" poll ASAP.

"What did we just watch?" "I don't know dude..." I love these two even more now.
