Odd Thomas

For more Paul Dano I recommend Looper

Odd Thomas

Another good movie with sunshine in the title is, er, Sunshine (2007)

Odd Thomas

A great Steve Carell movie: Seeking a Friend For the End of the World

Tay Schumaker

It Sufjan and its pronounced Soofyawn. Sorry didn’t mean that to come off dickish. He’s just probably my favorite artist, and many many years ago I call him Suf Jan (and he has a song where he says he was called Subaru as a kid). So anyway, that’s all I got

JusteFlo

George going "I don't want to give my opinion on pageants, I don't want to upset people" before the movie itself amps up the creepy factor to give you its very obvious opinion on pageants was so funny to me.

Odd Thomas

The snooty judge was the Sparkle Motion lady from Donnie Darko, which only makes it funnier.

JoeE

Another good Steve carrel Toni Collette movie is the way way back

Josip Buretić

I love this movie so much and your reaction was excellent

8bitAndy

I'm sad there was no Little Miss Trivia in the wrap up, but this was a fun reaction to watch! Thank you for doing this movie!

REDR58

Child pageants seem exploitative and overtly sexualized? There’s my opinion!

El Mémé

Hey you two ! I don't know if many people would be interested in it, but i saw that Mars Express is now available. It's a french sci-fi animated movie and it's really good imo. Based on what George was talking about during the I, Robot reaction, my guess is you'd find this movie interesting. Just my two cents ! ( Also Little Miss Sunshine is fantastic and i'm really glad you got to watch it. )

Monica Alarcon

You know Abigail Breslin from Signs also.

China Andronicus

This is one of my absolute favorite films and I’m so happy you watched it. It’s strange that a film where so many sad things happen can be so uplifting, but it’s one of my go-to feel good movies.

punterjoe

Thanks for watching this. This is one of those movies that seems more a labor of love than a "we're gonna break box office records & all get Oscars®" project. When Simone was talking about helping her friends move & working in the carpeted crawl space, it got me to thinking... Have you seen "being John Malkovich"? 🤨 It's definitely NOT mainstream, but is memorable, iconic and watch-worthy in its own unique way. 😏

Logan Kerlee

I've got no idea what this movie's about. This was a pick that I didn't choose, so I'm in the dark on this one. Hoping that I'll enjoy though! :) "His hair's very dark." "Yeah." lol, it's black George. Black is a dark color. xD I'm someone who's dealt with suicide attempts and being hospitalized for it. It ain't fun but it can definitely be necessary. Nothing like this happened with me, though. I was hospitalized repeatedly for it, too. Multiple failed attempts. Being back home after was initially odd/strange but not in the way that this is shown. Then again, this isn't his home, it's his family's home. The father's being a bit of an asshole. Is it a heavy subject? Obviously! The grandfather as well. Is suicide scary and should be discouraged? Obviously! Yeah, no - that dad's an asshole. I would fucking crush that guy if I knew him. He would be demolished. Fucking asshole. I'm really happy that she finally chose to eat some of her ice-cream. :D The trouble with the van not starting up was really nice. Except now I'm worried about wherever they stop driving next. xD lmao, I love the interaction between the dad and Steve Carell's character in the bus, I forgot his name. I fucking love slushies! I could SO go for one right now. It's warm here and drinking something ice cold and tasty would be so delicious, yum! We're only 41 minutes in and yeah, this is a lot of drama. I'm surprised neither of you are familiar with lollygagging! I really love how the grandpa is so supportive of Olive! Also, Olive is the PERFECT name for her. What is he doing in this?! lol, his hair is there and it's so strange to see him with it. Well this movie took a turn that I wasn't expecting! lmao - wow. If nothing else they're stealing the hospital's blanket. My mom recently died. It was expected and planned. I'm thankful that things weren't too chaotic with it. IS THIS BREAKING BAD?! What the hell? xD hahahaha lmao, if this somehow includes a drug related situation I'll be shocked. The color blind situation is pretty disappointing.. but how was it just discovered now? Does a person's vision for color fade over time as well? I've got no idea on that. It definitely sucks that it'll prevent his dream. Really awesome that his family was so supportive! That woman is a fucking cunt over five minutes.. wow! Fuck that noise. I'm glad that she was nice as well. Right now I'm about ready to check out mentally for this movie. I can't stand this beauty pageant bullshit. Hoping that it won't be the actual focus for the movie from this point on. We'll see though. Yeah, no I'm not sure about this on YouTube either. No - George! xD Dude might give strange vibes but I definitely didn't pick up on THOSE vibes. xD I dig Dwayne's motivation but I hope that he can accept that he won't be able to do his dream. Holy moly - some of those kid's performances are crazy! I'm laughing so hard right now! I'm shocked. hahahaha, wow. This is so bad. xD hahahahaha, wow! What the fuck, man? :P I'm glad that she's having a good time - that's what matters in the end. Hell yeah! So glad that her family's joining in with the craziness. :) <3 This right here is making me smile so much! Love that they got applause from the dude who allowed them to perform as well as the dude who cheered like a maniac at the end! So awesome. hahahahaha This movie made me so emotional at the end! I loved this movie so much. xD hahahaha, I was expecting to just check out mentally but instead it's when ALL of the emotional whatnot actually happened. Crap, man. I'm feeling super sad after this movie. Not really sure why. I enjoyed watching this quite a bit! Steve Carrell did a fantastic job playing his role as well as each of the rest of the cast! Great movie overall! Whoever requested/voted for this, thank you! :)

Patrick

"Real losers are people who are so afraid of losing, that they don't even try." Words to live by. Fear of failure is crippling.

Patrick

You good, my man? That was a hell of a rant lol I appreciate you sharing your past, I'm glad you made your way out of it. I also thought the same thing when George mentioned his hair. As if George's hair isn't jet black haha. The actor's hair looks dyed black though. There's no shine or depth to the color, just black. It's also a large contrast to his pale skin tone.

Denashi

I enjoy watching actors who are usually known for comedic roles, do serious stuff! Another good one is Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler (in a very not funny role) and Don Cheadle.

Terdell Ferguson

Over the years and many viewings, I've realized I love this film so much and I'm glad you saw this one. There is so much to this "small film" and so many inadvertent family "comedy" moments. Thanks, George for recognizing Frank's journey and the complexity of what he was going through. Two years ago, I was Frank, and every day was a challenge.

RabidMango

When the gymnast little lady in the competition starting doing her tumbling routine all I could think of was that little infected girl who came through the back window of the car when Ellie was hiding in The Last of Us.

RipTheRipper

Requests: - M3GAN (2022) - Saltburn (2023) - Detective Pikachu (2019) - White Oleander (2002) - Say Anything (1989) - I, Tonya (2017)

REDR58

Another excellent, somewhat atypical Steve Carell movie is “Foxcatcher” from 2014, also starring Mark Ruffalo. Dark and moody, but well worth a watch.

Joshua White

Is Simone wearing a Shins shirt? Could my affection be growing even deeper?

MacGuffinStuff

This is of my favorites. Speaking of Breaking Bad, there are technically three actors from the Breaking Bad universe, the cop at the end who tells them they can leave if they never enter another pageant in California, that actor plays a character in Better Call Saul. Btw yeah I think pageants like that are one of the most bizarre things in the US. Loved Alan Arkin in this (RIP). Another I loved him in was Slums of Beverly Hills, that's another movie that kind of out there, an outlier, odd but funny.

droodly

I was sure I had seen this, but apparently not. This was a near perfect movie. I loved it so much! P.S. George. You should cut your hair like the thumbnail.

Mr. Treat

The scene with olive crying talking to her grandpa makes me tear up every time, without fail.

Elvenwitch

The father from this movie is kinda an amalgamation of my mom and step dad. While the grandfather is reminecent of my bio dad. So hard to watch.

Presto2222

Also with Steve Carrell and Toni Collette, is The Way Way Back, as well as other top-cast stars, and it is very much another beautiful coming of age tale. So worth a watch.

Gary Fixler

And then they can make a playlist called Sunshine, and put them both in there with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mine.

Gary Fixler

I can explain the dad's journey pretty succinctly. He simply followed my 9 "Refuse to Lose" steps to a better tomorrow: 1 It's a Winner-Take-All World 2 Aspiration, Inspiration, Perspiration 3 No Hocus Pocus, Just Focus 4 Say No to The Negheads 5 Good Enough is Never Good Enough 6 Trust and be Trusted 7 Think Big, Act Big... Be Big 8 Reject Rejection 9 Refuse to Lose Hit me up if you'd like to attend my Fall "Winners Retreat." Everyone who goes is a winner. You simply can't lose!

Philipp Roensch

Exactly the right movie I needed after a difficult family weekend, you can't choose them, but you mustn't hate them. Love how this family comes together in clowing on everybody, even with grandpa from the beyond. Banger Film and top performances from Dano and Carell. Another Steve Carell suggestion: Vice (2018) - he plays Donald Rumsfeld, and the rest of the cast is equally well placed :D.

Jay

Child pageants are obviously fucked up and weird, but it's nothing to do with the kids. There's a deleted scene where 2 other LMS contestants are mean to Olive and I'm so glad they left it out. Kids are not the villain in this sort of nonsense. It's such a great movie!

Jay Davis

May I recommend The In-Laws, The Russians Are Coming and Catch-22 as George's primer for Alan Arkin? There are plenty more. But those stand out in my mind. The man was a film treasure.

JoeE

Another good Alan arkin movie is wait until dark

King_Panarisi

I'm glad child pageants are illegal in my country, atleast under the age of 16 anyway.

REDR58

Apparently most if not all of the other pageant participants in this movie were real past contestants in various pageants. Yikes. Wonder if they, or rather, their parents got the message upon seeing this movie. Somehow I doubt it.

REDR58

Another good and bizarre black comedy/satire is 1970’s “Catch-22” directed by Mike Nichols and based on Joseph Heller’s book of the same name.

Jpsynergy

Glad you guys enjoyed this one. One of my favorites.

DCray

Yes, George. They were 100% insinuating that the guy in the denim vest was a creep just there to watch the kids. I thought it was pretty obvious after he was asked if he has a kid in the competition and he smirks and asks "first time?" Also gets way too excited over Olive's "inappropriate" dance moves to Super Freak. Just look how they purposefully made his character look like the stereotypical shady dude and stand out from the rest of the crowd. There are a lot of messages in this movie about how messed up these pageants are, like giving children harmful issues with body image. Another big issue with these pageants are the absolute weirdo pedophiles. Definitely not a controversial take to worry about getting in trouble over!

ChickensAreRacist

Re-upped just for this, then heard tell yall doing Juno soon?! Man. All two of the specific hits we’ve been waiting for you two to react to.

Angela D. Mitchell

"Slums of Beverly Hills" was a great movie -- Alan Arkin was always AMAZING (RIP). He was so good here, too -- he won the Oscar.

Angela D. Mitchell

I would have picked Wait Until Dark, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Slums of Beverly Hills, and Argo. But anything he did was worth watching!

China Andronicus

I have to post again for all the people insisting the biker dad is a pedo. He’s not. The actor himself commented on this and how there were other scenes that ended up getting cut where he interacted more with the family and had a wife with him and a daughter. He was just supposed to like Olive’s dance because it was his type of music and for once he wasn’t bored to death. Not everyone is a pervert.
