You guys should also check out NEON DEMON ! I fell like George and Simone would love it ! And another (after watching the scary movie reaction) Anna Farris gem would be HOUSE BUNNY !

Rrrrr! George, remember those comments in the previous post complimenting your hair? Were you trying to prove them wrong with this thumbnail? :-) "Who do you think Richard Gere is?" "The prostitute with a heart of gold!" Ba-dum-tss! :-) The term is gigolo. An American Gigolo, even. (Personally, I find him more plausible.) How could Usul possibly betray Chani so?!?! 0:57 9:55 Welcome to the Impossible Challenge tournament. Your task today is to create a mashup of the Prince and Tom Jones versions of this song. :-) 13:15 "I'm having a good tine." I have a good Tine. Daily! 13:35 I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the kinship of My Fair Lady* and this movie as descendants of the Pygmalion myth. When one considers the social context of MFL, one could claim GBS's play is deliberately sanitized. Yes, I would definitely hire Hector Elizondo as my majordomo. * Hereby recommended.

Happy Hanukkah

Speaking of Pygmalion, I am reminded (in my typically circuitous way) of Dennis Potter's miniseries Karaoke (1996, starring Albert Finney). It is not for everyone, and I can't in good conscience recommend it for the channel, but it deserves its high esteem. (And besides, it also features the Emperor and Loki.)

Obligatory “Yes, George, the bit with the necklace box was real” post. Gere improvised snapping it closed on her, and that was Julia’s natural reaction.

i went to a screenwriting lecture by the guy who wrote this or co wrote this it was a bit vague. Anyway the original story was super gritty and way more depressing think something like Leaving Las Vegas but the studio decided to make it more rom-com-y. Guy was super angry at the time and when the movie came out and became a smash hit he did a 180 and tried to get jobs writing rom coms and stuff. So this movie is one of the rare cases where studios save a project.

Oh I LOVE the opera, but I've only been able to go a handful of times. Simone, now-a-days professional productions actually have subtitles even on Live performances so you can follow along even in the original language. Either big screens next to the stage, or individual projectors for every seat. Jason Alexander IS a great actor. He has publicly stated that he's happy "Seinfeld" took over the public consciousness because otherwise THIS would have been his defining role and he would hate to be known as "the guy who tried to r**e Julia Roberts".

Pam Nail

Carol Channing was an actress and comedian who was very big on Broadway. She was in the original stage version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and sung "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" years before Marilyn Monroe did. She had an iconic blonde bob and yes, Vivian does look like her a bit in the beginning of the movie. The original version of the script for this movie (when it was called "$3,000") was MUCH darker, with Edward taking Vivian back to Hollywood Blvd. at the end of the week and throwing the money out the car window at her; then she and Kit get on a bus and go to Disneyland with the $3,000 and on the way Vivian dies of a drug overdose.

I saw this movie when I was a kid, thankfully didn't understand most of it, but for some reason I thought it was like a grown up version of Cinderella. Which it kind of is. It weirdly became one of my fave movies.

Simon Ham

Guys you should read the original screenplay - very different and so much darker.

Dylan Thomas

I just wanted to say that Pretty Woman absolutely is a version of My Fair Lady which itself is a version of Pygmalion the George Bernard Shaw play. The themes of the characters each trapped in their own social caste prisons helping each other find fulfillment and happiness are strong in both pieces. My Fair Lady is also about a street girl being brought into upper class society and taught how to dress and speak and proper manners which parallels with Julia Roberts learning the proper forks and shopping for proper attire. Both include scenes of the girl being told she will never fit in with the upper crust of society and constantly being told she will never be more than a street girl.

Another comedy I'd highly recommend reacting to The Muppet Movie for its 45th anniversary, if that's OKay? It's a perfect movie for summer right now, and the Muppets are always fun, funny, and very wholesome. Plus, the Muppet movies are, from a special effects standpoint, really cool and a visual treat. It's a great way to really get introduced to The Muppets if you're not familiar with them. I think it'd make a fun reaction 🙂

Norman The Cow

Great reaction! Interesting that George brings up "what happens after?" Billy Crystal wrote, directed, and starred in a movie called Forget Paris. Tagline: a comedy about love... after marriage. It's a great movie about what happens after the couple falls in love and gets married. It has a stellar cast with several Simpsons voice actors.

HeyHeyJK

I wasn't going to watch this reaction just because I always felt the movie was silly but watching it again now you can't deny how amazing Julia Roberts is in it and why it made her a star, and her and Richard Gere did have great chemistry. Compare that to a few years earlier when Richard was in "An Officer and a Gentleman" and he and his co-star Debra Winger HATED each other but were good enough actors to still make their chemistry work on screen. And, as someone who walks around Hollywood Blvd. every now and then, the hookers are long gone, but it's still kinda/sorta seedy in spots. Fun Fact: the only time I've ever seen Julia Roberts in person, she was 'copping a squat under a tree' having a picnic on the Sony/Columbia movie lot when I worked there. She was just hanging out under a tree in the grass outside one of the office buildings with a then boyfriend. Oh, and I also talked to Richard Gere on the phone, also when I worked on the Sony lot. He and my Producer boss were friends and he called sometimes.

WastedPo

I support this idea. It would also pave the way to them reacting to The Great Muppet Caper. I watched that a lot as a kid, and recently rewatched it. It's SHOCKING just how inventive and advanced the practical effects are. I think I appreciated them more now than I did back then.

Danika Silva

dont tell si,ome about this being remade

Tom M

Class differences is one of my two fav rom tropes. See, from my youth, the remake of Great Expectations with Paltrow and Hawke, and Inventing the Abbotts with Phoenix, Crudup, Connolly, and Tyler. It also helps when the stars are freaking attractive as hell.

Tom M

Cool. That’s a good suggestion for Cinebinge though, Leaving Las Vegas. One of my fav movies. Very sad and very poignant. Semi autobiographical—the author took his life after selling the rights to the book. Nic Cage’s Oscar.

Tom M

Since there was some Costanza talk in this reaction, I have to recommend it for a watch as the best sitcom ever. I doubt anyone would react to it in 2024 and season 1 is kind of rough, but maybe a best of approach would work. I literally quoted it today with a friend and it’s been off the air for a decades. My friend was talking about having to pretend to work on Fri 5 Jul and it became a deep dive of all of Costanza’s work antics.

Dan Holmes

George you would LOVE Seinfeld! please do it as a long show option next round! :)

Dan Holmes

also yes this is basically literally my fair lady, just hooker to pretty woman instead of poor to rich

Dan Holmes

If you want THE BEST Hotel Manager character than you NEED to watch That Thing You Do! :)

Peter Dillard

Please now do 'Runaway Bride' which also has Gere and Roberts.

Simon Pegged Me

For another great Richard Gere movie, I recommend Primal Fear (1996), and after reading a previous comment about the original ending to Pretty Woman—shout out to "Pam Nail"—I recommend you react to Midnight Cowboy, another movie about life for prostitutes on the seedy side of town.

Happy Hanukkah

Nah, I just want feelgood movies with Richard Gere as Prince Charming. Hence, Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

jmundt33a

No traction. It’s in development purgatory with just a producer. Thankfully.

James Falato

To me, He has finally come to the conclusion that He loves Her and They'll have a very good chance to be together "Forever"...

Kameron Webb

Shall we dance is my favorite Richard Gere movie!

Kron0n

I have to say, I'm from England and I've been to LA twice for Blizzcon. LA is the worst city on the planet. The smog and traffic SUCK! Just go for Santa Monica <3.

Kron0n

The most unrealistic thing about this movie is Vivian can't count that $100 an hour for a week is more than 3K. So why charge 300 a night? Hell of a discount. Not good business.

Kron0n

Hawk Tua in motion...

Rob Church

How about a My Girl reaction?

Who Are These People

It's true George; place your heel (or the heel of a stretched sock) against the inside of your elbow and your toes will touch your wrist line. Nobody believes it until they try it then they're surprised.
