You guys should also check out NEON DEMON ! I fell like George and Simone would love it !

BigGuy209

I just watched this last week. this is my favorite Julia Roberts movie.

Thexx

This was one of my moms favorites so I grew up on it. It cemented Julia as one, if not my favorite, RomCom actresses. It's been quite a few years so I'm looking forward to this re-watch.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Sweet ol’ film that does an enjoyable play on the Cinderella type idea. This even ended up among the top highest grossing films ever made in its day too! Mystic Pizza (also very good) was before this and Ms Roberts’ charm was on display but really cemented here

Amos T Fairchild

Then I remembered that Romy and Michelle were watching this at the beginning of their movie. lol.

If you want a movie about the harsh reality and struggle of male prostitution. I’d suggest Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo.

FWPJR.

Heck yes, I love that movie lol it’s hilarious, I hope they react to it someday. It definitely has some parts that would be great to see how they react to them

FWPJR.

This is definitely a classic, it was one of my mom’s favorite movies ( someone else commented the same about their mom ) and her and my dad watched it on VHS a lot. It’s one of the movies from my childhood that’s ingrained into my brain lol

FWPJR.

Same, it’s also one of my mom’s favorites. I think a lot of moms loved this movie when it came out and when it was available to rent on VHS they rented it. My mom pretty much made my dad watch it, but tbh he enjoys it.

I forgot that Hector Elizondo was in this, and that he is particularly wonderful playing the role of Hotel Manager. NOW, you've got to put "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" 1974 on your list. No spoiler here, since from the moment he's on screen, his character, Grey (hmmm... where did Quentin Tarantino get the idea for color names in "Reservoir Dogs"?) is one of the most viscous, murderous criminals in a film full of viscous, murderous criminals! Hector Ellizondo has done so much! Larger roles and smaller roles, he always pushes past what expectations you might think the role asks. He's a working actor, so he takes roles, thus his IMDB page is long, but in everything I've seen him in he impresses. The first role I remember him for is a Puerto Rican Janitor stuck in an elevator where Archie Bunker is also stuck and Hector's wife has a baby. It is a beautiful episode and is but one example of why "All in the Family" was such truly wonderful show. (S2-E14 The Elevator Story on FreeVee) Then I see he was in "Love in the time of Cholera", I haven't gotten to the 'on-all-the-lists' book yet, and I didn't know it was a film, but that Hector Elizondo plays Don Hector in it makes me more likely that I get around to both. Finally, notwithstanding that he is everywhere, my last recollection of him was as Mr. Monk's therapist for the final 14 episodes after the actor that played his therapist throughout, Stanley Kamel, passed away in real life. It must be such a difficult job to join a show like that at the very end and step into such a pivotal role and pull it off so graciously without disrupting the long standing ensemble. Perhaps you can tell that I am on my first cuppa coffee of the day...

123 is a guilty pleasure of mine :) such a trash movie but I enjoy it anyway

Didnt watch Pretty Woman for a long time. I think its realy good. One of the few "women movies" that me and my pals quote from time to time

Maiki

No idea how many times i've seen this. One of those movies you can watch once a year and just have a good time. There actually was a script for a sequel, but especially Julia Roberts didn't want to do it. Some of the actors who turned down the parts: Molly Ringwald, Michelle Pfeiffer, Meg Ryan (who was the diectors first choice). Al Pacino, Sylvester Stallone (!) for the Edward part.

Tay Schumaker

One thing about this movie, the soundtrack is full of fucking bangers

Tenwyn

It's funny that George was having a hard time with Julia Roberts acting like a "common person", isn't that what pretty much all actors do?

Kyle Baker

I'm just going to recommend American Gigolo, because ya know why not now.

WalrusWallace

Oh my god I'm usually not one for romance (at least ones that aren't mm and in the form of a comic or novel) but I'm so glad I watched this along with your reaction. So many scenes had me tearing. And not just the romance scenes but also the ones with Vivian interacting with her roommate and Barney and how she also touched them in a profound way. Such a nice movie :')

Tay Schumaker

George this is very much inspired by Pygmalion/My Fair Lady. Obviously a lot of differences, but the overall plot is very similar, and there are even beats that are almost exact.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

I'm assuming many already say it but, Julia Roberts is naturally blonde which you can tell due to her niece Emma Roberts also being blonde. The original movie was pretty dark and not even a Disney related movie but then Buena Vista bought it(Disney studio) and they changed many things as the new director got in

Brad Lowry

Yes I agree, but I do think it fits better as Capitalism's version of Cinderella. Maybe because Ralph Bellamy plays a rich guy in both I'm thinking that "Trading Places" is more like Pygmalion/My Fair Lady so far as coaching someone to "fit in" with a higher station.

8bitAndy

Waiting for George to drop a hotel managers tier list on Patreon. Also, Steel Magnolias when??

Odd Thomas

Next Julia Roberts movie should be Flatliners (1990)

Odd Thomas

Gere and Roberts reunited in Runaway Bride. They shouldn't have.

Odd Thomas

INT. PALACE - NIGHT Servants reveal dishes of monkey brains. Willie faints. George: "They are delicious though"

Magnificent Gojira

can't even say it didn't age well. It was wrong in every possible way from the very beginning

BangDroid

George, if you want your own Richard Gere-esque billionaire, you might need some boobs and hips to fill those dresses, but who knows with these billionaires, you may be their type already 😂

JayF

George, as you're a fan of the hotel manager (Hector Elizondo) you should put the 80s comedies Nothing in Common and Necessary Roughness on your list.

BigGuy209

i hope this movie doesn’t ruin Jason Alexander for George. if he ever decides to watch Seinfeld.

REDR58

This movie came out right after I graduated grade school and I never saw it at the time or ever in the years since, so this was a first watch for me. I liked the movie a lot. It was filmed in the 2nd half of 1989 but if I hadn't know the exact year I would have guessed it was filmed in the mid-1980s. It looks and feels much more like a movie that came out earlier than it did, somehow. Neither of you seemed to notice him, but the landlord looking for rent that causes Vivian to sneak out the fire escape is Larry Hankin who you have seen in Breaking Bad and El Camino" as "Old Joe" the wrecking yard owner. He's just on screen for a few seconds, but he has that very distinctive profile and voice! Laura San Giacomo who plays Kit (Vivian's roommate) reminds me quite a bit of Ginger Gonzaga who plays "Nikki Ramos" on "She-Hulk: Attorney-at-Law." Chemistry between Roberts and Gere, they apparently never dated and when the movie was released she was 22 and he was 40 years old. I didn't realize she was that young. This was her fifth theatrical movie, including roles in "Mystic Pizza" (1988) and "Steel Magnolias" (1989) and this movie made her a superstar. As for Richard Gere, you should definitely check him out in "American Gigolo" (1980) and in "An Officer and a Gentleman" (1982).

Oh, no...does Simone think Gossip Girl is romantic?! Very disturbing take.

jmundt33a

Well, it was definitely a step down from this and Notting Hill but NH was a career turnaround after a lean few years starting with I Love Trouble and concluding with the brutal and infuriating My Best Friend’s Wedding.

Armchair Rizzard

OMG Simone and George I love Mistborn and Stormlight Archives. I never meet a Brandon Sanderson fan in the wild!

Jonas Buckner

Simone, if you go see operas, you will definitely see one or two you don't like. Puccini, for example, wrote like 12 Operas, and 3 of them are good. People still keep staging them, so to be an opera fan is to watch some bad ones now and again.

Gary Fixler

It was fun to see George finding her really attractive and endearing, like literally every boy in my eighth grade class back when this movie came out. She was the hottest woman we all knew for quite a while there.

Gary Fixler

Awe, we missed out on a Sylvester Stallone/Meg Ryan romantic comedy? That would have been amazing.

Gary Fixler

I can't believe I remembered her leg dimensions all these years later. I never forgot it was 44 and 88. Must be a core memory.

Angela D. Mitchell

I have a soft spot for this movie (and yeah, I was totally singing along with Simone at several key moments!). I really like that it doesn't soft-pedal Vivian being a sex worker. It's open about that from minute one, and I liked that they never tried to "damsel" her or make it seem like "she barely does it," etc. I think the integration of sex and coldness in the relationship with Edward works really well to progress the relationship and intimacy in other unexpected ways, instead. And I love the way it's a fairytale anyway, and how the hotel manager and sweet hotel staff are all rooting for them. What kind of gets me the most is the clear bittersweetness of the ending. Viv and Edward will probably work things out and live happily ever after -- but Kit won't. She's doomed. She spends the entire movie giving in and giving excuses and is already just one pimp and party away from an overdose. So that's what always moves me -- Kit isn't going to get out, while Viv is, and they both know it.

Tall Paul

A joy of the full length reactions is that when the music starts we get to see both Simone singing along happily and the fear in George's eyes as he starts to panic about editing

Tiff melody

I don't know if this was mentioned or not but there are 2 versions of this film - theatrical cut and director's cut. I believe this reaction is to the theatrical version am I correct? I have the film where the day off montage was extended, followed by extended scene with Carlos the pimp confrontation.
