one of my favorite movies of all time, and im the first one here.!!!

Zachery Gaskins

Solid Snake is ENTIRELY inspired by Snake Plissken, as evidenced by the Plissken character from MGS2.

TomGas2025

I be I am alone in this here but honestly Inlike the second one a tad more.

Renee MeowMeow Beans

Yay!! So happy y'all enjoyed this! I'm a late comer to John Carpenter, and I think one of the things I so appreciate about his films is the economy of the script. Like you said, here's the story, let's get into it, and boom we're done. And the cinematography is *chef's kiss *LOVE it!

MPH

You should watch The Warriors!

jim Howe

Awesome! Now time to watch 'They Live'

When this first came out, Kurt Russell was a clean cut Disney kid. His performance in this completely transformed his image. I remember doubting he could pull off being an action hero.

Hunterrim

Harry Dean Stanton, who plays ‘Brain’, is definitely one of the most underrated actors I can think of. He’s is so many great films/shows and always delivered a great performance. He acted until age 91, where he sadly passed away

Ginger

I always preferred the sequel "Escape from L.A." which is basically the same movie. ^^ I definitely saw both of these but somehow all scenes I remember seem to be from the second one.

Fun Facts: Almost all of the 'New York' exteriors were filmed in downtown St. Louis, mostly in an area of several blocks recently damaged by a fire. The blonde woman in 'Chock Full O' Nuts' was Curt Russell's ex-wife. The matte painting of downtown as seen from Central Park was done by a gifted young artist called James Cameron. The exterior theatre doors Snake goes into are the then soon-to-be-restored St. Louis Fox Theatre, now one of the most prominent theatres in the country. The interior is a different location. There is a clever pan at the beginning from the actual Statue of Liberty to the L.A. River basin, where their base is located. And much more . . .

ShoNuff3000

Okay okay Prince of Darkness time

rictus grin

you should watch Solider, another great Kurt Russel action hero movie

Jinyatta

If you liked the aesthetic of this movie, I highly recommend "The Warriors" from 1979

Patrick Evans

A character in the book Neuromancer, which coined the term cyberpunk, was based on the line about Snake being the only survivor to fly the gliders into the Soviet Union l

Yay! Lee Van Cleef! (And with a solid earring, no less.) Wait! You've managed to get me confused now. Which one of you is George? When you were talking about that dress in the intro, my honest-to-goodness reaction was: "It's an Adrienne Barbeau dress!" 3:50 OK, I think George has seen enough '80s action movie taglines. :-) 24:15 0:15 :-P :-) :-) 24:40 OMG, it's contagious! :-)

Dirge Girl

Hear, hear! They Live, Prince of Darkness, and In the Mouth of Madness. Please and thank you.

Tyler Foster

Yes, yes, and yes! Going to be vague, of course, but the bit with the shared transmissions in Prince of Darkness is perhaps one of my favorite ideas in any horror movie ever. Just such a cool concept.

JBK405

George you're right that this was a MAJOR inspiration for video games and genre films for the next several decades. The film "Cloverfield" specifically included the scene of the Statue of Liberty's head because they were disappointed that the poster image here never actually showed up in the film.

Nerd's Gold

Maybe if you introduce George first?

Athenor

Hey you two should check out the movement Soldier(1998) if you haven't seen it,(not many have it's a great movie that slipped through the cracks .it's an action movie that has themes of indoctrination and disposable soldiers and I guarantee Simone will mention a ST(TNG)episode that dealt with a similar subject 😆
