Darkest Hour is a pretty good double feature with this from the political side.

jmundt33a

Bridge of Spies also for Rylance. Really good Spielberg historical drama.

I don't think I've seen this movie since I saw it in the theater. Looking forward to watching the reaction. (Also: you know it's serious and intense when George doesn't do anything funny with the thumbnail and it's just Simone looking worried/sad.)

Joe Williams

Great reaction guys. I get really emotional watching this film. Dunkirk looms large in Britain's cultural memory.

Cat with a Hairpiece

Regarding the trivia at the end, this was by far the loudest god damned movie I've ever seen in theaters lol.

Jeff I.

Yeah, one thing Nolan movies kind of suck at is sound mixing. Any explosions, gunfire, or music is like four times louder than the dialogue. I remember reading on Reddit that people had a hard time understanding some of the dialogue in Tenet because of how much it was muffled by other sounds in the action heavy scenes.

Ian Hunt

Holds a special place in my heart this movie - first film i saw in Imax (the noise!…)after having a few pints beforehand. Not often as a British person a movie gives you something to be patriotic about!

Bill B.

Impressive how George called it right off the bat!

Jeff K

George, you've probably already investigated this since I know you're a history buff, but Tom Hardy's character is based on Alan Deere, a Kiwi fighter ace. He was not actually captured by the Nazis, however. He's well worth reading about, though. His autobiography is called "Nine Lives," if you want any indication of how frequently he very nearly died during his pilot days.

Dan Holmes

ok your analysis of Nolan and Time at the beginning was actual perfect lol

Dan Holmes

George now you both have to watch Darkest Hour, the perfect pairing for this film :)

Grand Moff Slackin'

I'm beginning to suspect that George only owns Simpsons-related clothing.

Itbewhatitbe

hahhaha does look like it. have you seen his instagram though? dudes got a whole johnny dept vibe going

Monica Alarcon

I was thinking "why is the thumbnail so simple this time?" but then I figured it's because it's based on a true story and a lot of people died and It might be disrespectful to do the usual kind of thumbnail so, good call... And it says it all anyways...

Happy Hanukkah

0:28 I didn't have a problem with Nolan's time bleepity structuring, but those three captions (5:14) were needlessly elliptical. 5:40 Yes, that was your drug of choice. 8:50 The famed British "stiff upper lip." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Calm_and_Carry_On 32:04 Well duh, it's Tom Hardy!* :-) 38:14 Just ignore the "gh." As penance, how about a reaction to one of the approachable Shakespeare movies directed by and starred in by Branagh: the "war movie" Henry V (1989), or the "romantic comedy" Much Ado About Nothing (1993)? 39:31 For shame, Simone! I thought you were supposed to serve as George's Star Trek sherpa! :-) History: A quintessential example of living to fight another day. Dunkirk was just over 4 years before D-Day. * https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3569230/

If you guys want time shenanigans try TeneT. I dare you.

Best war movie ever, IMO. This is nice. I'm half way done with a really difficult army school right now. My body is broken. I want to go home. Watching my favorite reactors watch my second favorite movie is exactly what I need before bed time.

MPH

Not seeing this in iMax is my biggest movie regret.

Simon Pegged Me

My favorite piece of trivia regards the captain of the boat the story follows from London to Dunkirk and back again. He's modeled apparently after Commander C.H. Lightoller, who rescued survivors from a doomed craft in the Channel and evaded dive bombing in the manner shown in the film. His younger son, a RAF pilot, fought and died earlier in the war; his older son, an officer in the Royal army, escaped Dunkirk hours earlier on another ship. My favorite piece of trivia, though, is that he was the second officer on the Titanic, the highest ranking officer to survive. He served in the Royal navy for both World Wars.

Also, if you're looking for a fun Kenneth Branagh film, I recommend Dead Again (1991), written by the same guy that wrote Logan (2017) and Minority Report (2002).

Please watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- David Fincher Directed. 😊

MarisoL

Let's watch Nightcrawler sometime soon

rictus grin

while i like this one i still prefer the 1958 black and white Dunkirk movie

I'm impressed with the Editing of "Dunkirk", and found that: "Dunkirk" was nominated for eight Academy Awards, taking home three for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing... So, for once I 'm in agreement with the Film Academy over this True Depiction of the Miraculous Recovery of Allied Troops in 1940...

James Falato

A P.S. regarding the Director, Christopher Nolan, doing a comedy... Jonathan Demme, of "Silence of the Lambs" Direction, was known exclusively for his Dark Comedies prior to "Silence" and We all know how well He handled truly Dark/Thriller Tales... Great Directors can handle virtually ANY Genre IF THEY HAVE THEIR OWN DESIRE TO...

Patrick

We do love to queue, the British.
