Maratae

I giggled at the thumbnail.

E. D.

oh shit the thumbnail is amazing!

mojo shivers

Great anime. I don’t watch too many these days, but this one stuck with me.

ShoNuff3000

I need to watch this first and I've seen everything.

Jeff I.

Yooo, I would totally watch an anime comedy-drama starring the two characters in the thumbnail.

dys

I am coincidentally visiting Tokyo right now, what better way to end the day than watching this with you.

Sean

Haven't watched this reaction yet but Im so excited for it 😩

Sergio Meira

It's a great movie, like everything Makoto Shinkai has directed. If you get the chance of watching more anime movies, I recommend his, especially "The Garden of Words" (watch this one! it's just 45 minutes!), and also "Five Centimeters per Second" and "Weathering with You." But the anime movie I think you guys should really watch -- it asks so many questions, and is so deeply emotional! -- is Koe no Katachi, "A Silent Voice" (better translated as "The Sound of a Voice" or, better yet, "The Shape of a Voice"), directed by Naoko Yamada. Please do react to it -- if you haven't seen it yet, you won't regret it!

MoonageDaydream

I really hope you watch A Silent Voice at some point!

dys

aaand turns out I cannot watch the full-length version of this movie I own when I'm in another country. Fucking region restrictions

Philipp Roensch

Amazing thumbnail! (watching the full reaction)

Dirge Girl

... 'n I thought yer Simpsons thumbnail game was on point. You guys've outdone yerselves, yet again. ^5

Honey Hermsen

Please, do yourselves a favor and watch this a second time. It's so much better the second time in my opinion

REDR58

Great thumbnail! Looking forward to watching the movie later tonight.

dys

Tokyo does not actually have a urine smell anywhere ever, for the time I have been here. Coming from NYC, I am as surprised as you are George.

ShoNuff3000

Also, I thought Simone's eyes were green.

Gatsby

Please watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- David Fincher Directed. 😊

Mastervodo

You guys look so CUUUUUTE animated!

Sergio Meira

Why do Simone and George's anime avatars look more human than the originals? :-)

VisualHigh

Now that you've watched this you're gonna be swamped with obligatory "A Silent Voice" requests. And it's a good shout tbf.

Random thought: I love the effort put into G&S's thumbnails. Scrolling through YouTube reactions, EVERY other thumbnail looks exactly the same... "we're looking shocked at the thing we've just seen!" It's cool that George is smart enough to realize this and willing to put in the effort. And established channels are using these same boring thumbnail templates too, so it's not a matter of bringing in more subscribers... I dunno. I think that extra effort is what keeps me coming back.

Cinebinge

thank you! honestly like 99% of the things we do, we do it to amuse ourselves and make eachother laugh 🤷‍♂️

Tcrimson05T

ANIME!!!! 🙌🏽 All Makoto Shinkai movies are great.

Steve Bennett

Writing "I love you" on the arm always gets me.

PR3M3

Always the best thumbnails on the animated movies my favorite live action one was Godzilla minus one.

sarCC

Adorable thumbnail! 🫶

BoredLittleLady

Love the thumbnail!!! 😍 I remember when I first watched this movie and absolutely loved it! It introduced me to Japanese anime. I've seen: "Your Name" "Weathering With You" "My Neighbor Totoro" "Spirited Away" "Kiki's Delivery Service" "Howl's Moving Castle" and "Princess Mononoke" And while I totally recommend these movies, I understand that it's not possible because of the copyright claims. To answer George's question, I would first look in the mirror, then freak out and probably convince myself that it's a dream.

Michael

I love love love the thumbnail on this one! 😁

FromDarknessComesLight

Holy crap, I love the thumbnail art! ... yes, it's AI generated, but it still looks good.

Redrum Sacrament

Anime Simone looks good, but I like real life beautiful Simone lol

Jeff K

Anime Simone works so flawlessly because real-life Simone already has big anime eyes. (Anime George looks terrific, as well, of course!)

Hyperdryve

The anime version of you guys is adorable 😭

Wyatt Nuxoll

You guys , I swear your thumbnails for your videos are the best. The anime style of you guys is awesome

TechPriest

I know there's a lot of comments on it already, but I'm really impressed with this thumbnail. Actually 'wow'd out loud.

Jordan Barnes

George I hope you’re not comparing yourself to the thumbnail cuz you’re a hottie IRL too

FranciscoGios

This thumbnail is out of this world; holy cheeze-nitz!!

Noel Valdez

That art is so sick!!! Also this movie is one of the best movies ever made IMO. It's in my top 100.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

So we’ve established that AI can’t translate Chinese very well yet, but can successfully draw oneself into some sick anime baddies, righteous.

ArcaneAnomaly

So, two little fun details that require knowledge of Japanese writing and mythology(from what I understand, I'm just sharing fun stuff I've learned). When Mitsuha sees the writing on your hand, "I love you", and sadly complains that that doesn't help her remember his name, she's being a hypocrite. The stroke that she begins with when she starts to write her name on Taki's hand is not how you would typically start any of the kanji making up her name - but it IS how you start the kana in "I love you". She had the same idea he did. Another hint to this ties in to the mythology part. In Japanese mythology, messages of love are protected from interference by the moon goddess. Every other message between them has disappeared, but the "I love you" on Mitsuha's hand never does. And that's what hints at Mitsuha also intending to write "I love you" - because that doesn't disappear, either. It may not have been complete, but it was still a message of love.

Mooj

To be fair, she could have just been starting to write Mitsuha in Hiragana, as she did earlier in the film. That would start with a horizontal stroke.

Muppetlord

"full reaction where you do not need your own copy." Seems broken. Just getting a black screen.

Hi guys. I know I'm 2 years late, but since you loved Your Name / Kimi No Na Wa, I thought I'd recommend a few films in the same style/vein: - Suzume (2022) by the same director (Shinkai Makoto). Another director with a similar anime style is Hosoda Mamoru. His best films IMO are: - Summer Wars (2009). - Wolf Children (2012). Honorable mentions: - Millennium Actress (2001). Right up your alley IMO. - Paprika (2006). Both by director Kon Satoshi (RIP). If you ever do a "modern (post-2000) anime movie" poll at some point, I hope to see some of those on there :-)

Ilsuk Yang

Yup, Brandon Sanderson took direct inspiration from this movie for Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. He's been in a number of interviews (and he's spoken on this topic in his own podcast) where he's mentioned that Your Name was a direct inspiration for his book. I read Yumi before I watched this movie and finally watched the movie last year and it's now one of my favorite movies (the LOTR trilogy is definitely up there, which I know y'all relate to lol). But yeah, Your Name is a wonderful romance connecting 2 people together through time and space. It's about as close as you can get to a perfect movie, which is an opinion I share about all my favorite movies! I was definitely worried for Simone when she said she didn't have any tissues lol
