As a person who suffers from persistent depression, this movie hits in a different way than I can really explain. I don't know if it's a metaphor for grief and depression, but damn if it doesn't work.

I think Amelia was the source of the children's book. The conversation at the birthday party revealed she's a writer, and when she was at the police station where they showed black spots on her hands, this could be charcoal from drawing the book. I think the book in itself is another expression of her grief, and could have been written in the midst of one of those bad nights where she's half waking and half asleep, giving the reason she does not remember creating it...

You can't get rid of that kind of feelings...but you can accept them.

The acting in the Babadook is so incredible, and yes it’s absolutely a metaphor for grief and mental illness, and how denying them can only make them stronger and darker. Even though I am not a parent, I think anyone with severe depression can see themselves a bit in this film. The portrayal of constant fatigue is second to none Since you seemed to both adore this one, i definitely recommend the film It Follows, it is another elevated horror movie about a much deeper emotional issue than it is about the monster.

I love this movie so much, but I can't rewatch it a lot because it really gets to me. And my goodness, that child is annoying even though at the same time I feel so bad for him!

When I tell you that this movie TERRIFIED me the first time I saw it. And not some multiple jump scares bs, I mean actually fear no doubt one of the best movies PERIOD 💯💯👍👍🔥🔥. Great reaction too 💯

Jennifer Kent’s other film The Nightingale is really good as well, but as a word of warning, the subject matter is DARK

Kid fears: "What if the Babadook comes out of my closet and takes me away?" Adult fears (fake): "What if the Babadook comes out of the closet and takes my child away?" Adult fears (real): "What if I'd secretly be relieved when the Babadook takes my child away?"

Harry Fieldson

Whilst grief affects everyone, I think it is important to show how much post natal depression can impact women, her grief for sure stems from the fact that her husband died, but her feelings towards her son are something she can't talk to anyone about or else she'll be potentially seen as a horrible person. It's so insanely isolating and I love that the movie shows you that the son isn't a horrible, evil child, he loves him mum to pieces but at the start we see him as this nightmare through her eyes just because of the unending pressure of motherhood amidst unresolved grief. Such a great movie, not that I ever want to watch it again haha.

A suggestion for any new polls there's another Australian horror film called Talk to Me which is very good.

The Film Effect

The Witch is another one that should be added to a poll.

I can watch Hereditary all day long, but this movie messed me up bad. Coming to terms with the monster inside as it tears your life apart is a kind of bravery unparalleled.

Queen Of Farts

“Fucking Twitchy Bullshit” is going to be the name of my next dubstep album

Simon Pegged Me

I'm not a fan of the horror genre. Spooky movies scare the corn right out of my shit, but I like Carrie (1976). I hope you'll react to Carrie.
