The last weekly polls winner was Wall-E, which will be available this Saturday.Reminder: movies that don't win does not mean they will never be watched, it just means they will be watched later. Please be respectful to each others opinions, we're all just here to have fun and watch movies :)

Jeff K.

Some good ones on here. Part of me wants Walk the Line so that, hopefully, it would lead to Walk Hard, but I see Almost Famous, I vote for Almost Famous.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

8 Mile and Walk The Line both have great performances and music. That said all are really good choices - Inside Llewelyn Davis is one of Oscar Isaac’s best! Almost Famous is arguably Crowe’s strongest screenplay

Chris H.

Yeah, Almost Famous. So iconic.

Matt

Inside Llewin Davis is so good

DonkyDave

Walk the line is great

Ray Ward

You need to consider "The Commitments", too.

Jeff K.

Strong agree. I love that movie.

Nathan Jasper

While we're on the subject I'd like to recommend Tár with Cate Blanchett. Cate based her performance off of a real composer but Tár herself isn't a real composer. But it's still an awesome movie.

The Gunslinger

Could you give Rango a watch sometime?

probablyKoi

8 mile is just legendary - hope it wins

Florian

I never saw 8 Mile, so I'm routing for that, but I love, Walk the Line, A Star is Born and Streight Outta Compten. Also I recommend, Eurovision with Will Farell ❤

Arcade Sufi

I saw that at the cinemas, great film.

Aisara

If walk the line doesn't win hope you do it either way

Onno Smits

Man, these polls have not been to my liking lately. Thankfully your own picks every week (and BCS) have still been catching my fancy for the most part. 👍

Scott Handsome

I mentioned it last time but you guys should add "That Thing You Do!" next time for music related polls. Great movie, extended cut too.

Deco

Walk the line, joaquin Phoenix is great in everything

Erik D

I want Almost Famous just to see if people start saying George looks like Ben Fong-Torres

Theoshin

Is it bad i want walk the line to win so they can watch Walk hard after?

Amar

We are all about too lose ourselves in the music...

Reece Chapford

Walk Hard is a hilarious parody of musical biopics like Walk the Line.

יוסי פורקוש

good list: mus see 8 mile, Compon is also must, star is born will make you tear, Elvis is stunning!

myinniemademedoit

The moment, you own it, you better never let it go…

Mike FromOz

So many good choices on this list, it was hard to pick a favourite!

Bob Bittner

I’m such a fan of the Judy Garland 1950s version of “A Star Is Born,” that the other three versions pale in comparison, including this most recent one. My votes went to “Almost Famous” and “Walk the Line.” (It would have been fun to see “Purple Rain” on this list. It’s not a good movie, but Prince’s performance sequences are priceless.)

Balmung

Man, I hate the biopic format. almost famous is at least a good movie

Wally Hartshorn

I came here to say the same thing. It’s a great movie, but I’ve never seen anyone react to it.

Mathew Hill

Surprised Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) isn’t in this list. It’s what I would have voted for. Queen rock!

Phillyman!!

All great choices 💯🔥👍

sarCC

Once.

Dirge Girl

Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) [Comedy/Indie]

Ray Ward

It has to be a nightmare to edit for YouTube because of the music. But the same can be said of all of the movies in the list above.

paul rai

Inside Lleweyn Davis is probably one my favorite underrated Coen Brothers film. Incredible cinematography, deeply drawn characters, that Coen dry comedy (the Please Mr. Kennedy still makes me laugh), but it’s also a stark and sad reflection that for every big artists there’s a lot that will never find a breakthrough—either through impediments or their own narcissism. It’s one of those movies where if I ever feel depressed I put it on and I feel a little better. Also, there’s an adorable cat as a supporting character and I know how much Simone will love that! :)

Amelie W

If you see Almost Famous, I'd like to recommend digging for the "Untitled cut". It's like twice as much movie as the theatrical release, people will say it's like a whole new movie, which from the sound of these comments may be a surprise to everyone watching.

paul rai

That would be awesome if they put Tar on a poll but I imagine most haven’t seen it so it might be hard for it to win. It definitely would be the most surrealist movie of the channel to watch but it’s so incredible. Cate Blanchett truly gives her best performances in it.

Joe Williams

Inside Llewyn Davis is a gorgeous, sad film. Great soundtrack.

Alex P.

Inside Lewellyn Davis isn't going to win this pill, but damn it should. One helluva movie.

Zach Sweeney

Such an underrated comedy where the parody music is actually excellent too.

JakeS

That's just what I was going to say. That movie is so goddamned funny.

BlakeK80DrumCovers

Some really great movies here. I went for 8 mile though. It genuinely shocked me just how good that movie is when i first saw it.

Alex Laime

Walk Hard should be on this list. :D I hope we get to hear some of the music in these movies. I know they can't play full songs, but at least enough to capture some flavor of the music.

FWPJR.

I really hope 8 Mile wins this, I loved Eminem back then ( I’m not really into his music after his 4th album ) and I love this movie. So hopefully it wins, it’s a great movie and Eminem does a good job acting in it. R.I.P Brittany Murphy

Jeff K.

The 8 Mile soundtrackis SO GOOD. And Eminem was surprisingly good in the movie. I'm surprised he only very rarely did any other film work. I don't think I ever saw him in anything else other than Funny People.

Sean

"Walk The Line" , then afterwards, "Walk Hard" 😁

FWPJR.

The 8 Mile soundtrack is fantastic, I still own the CD I bought the day it came out lol I was introduced to 50 Cent because of it, and I’m thankful for that. But pretty much every song on the album is great. And yeah, I think that’s the only other movie he’s done. At least that’s the only other movie I’ve seen him in.

Zhivko Yakimov

I am actually quite happy it is not on the list, as it twists actual events much beyond what you would call artistic licence. I continue to be utterly disappointed with Brian May and Roger Taylor for allowing this to happen, but I guess the money was good. And for the record, Queen was the first band of which I owned all their albums. I can elaborate what exactly I find a travesty, if you want, I just didn't want to go on a rant here.

Mike C

No one mentioned “Weird” yet? 😀

JayF

It's missing two that I can think of. First, The Wall (Pink Floyd) and second The Jazz Singer (Neil Diamond).

Mister Forbez

Almost Famous is one of my favorite movies, but I've wanted to suggest a 'Walk the Line/Walk Hard' double feature since you started watching/enjoying parody movies. Walk Hard is great on its own, but it would make so much more sense if you've seen Walk the Line (and any number of other musical biopics, as many of them are very... similar).

Tim T—

Brazil (1985) also has a singing telegram girl. Just saying.

Zhivko Yakimov

A couple of suggestions for future polls: Velvet Goldmine (1998) - it covers the glam rock scene from the early 1970s, and is inspired by the lives of people like David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, though this is strictly not a biopic. You have Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale and Toni Colette starring, though only McGregor was relatively famous back then (this came out a year before the Phantom Menace) Backbeat (1994) - it covers the Beatles in the late 1950s/early 1960s, just before they became famous. It mostly deals with their shows in Hamburg during the time, and it focuses on Stuart Sutcliffe, one of the founders of the Beatles who left the band a couple of years before its breakthrough. Stephen Dorff plays Sutcliffe, and it is an interesting look at the early Beatles La Bamba (1987) - the story of early rock & roll singer Richie Valens, portayed greatly by Lou Diamond Phillips Dreamgirls (2006) - broadly inspired by the story of The Supremes, a superstar soul trio that featured Diana Ross. The film has Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, and a great performance by Eddie Murphy in a dramatic role And of course, you must not miss Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), Will Ferrell's love letter to Eurovision. The film is as weird as the song contest itself, which is why we Europeans love it :)

Michael M.

Ray, Walk the Line, and then finally Walk Hard. I would get in as many music biopics as you are interested in, before Walk Hard, because it almost kills the genre. This round I went for Almost Famous, though.

Noctorious

Walk Hard, Pink Floyd The Wall, The Song Remains the Same

Lyle Morgan

You guys should probably watch almost all of these. Lots of gold on this poll. Maybe a “Music Month.”

Centuries of Sound

I'm curious about Elvis, so would be a good opportunity to watch that.

pinkdino99

Straight Outta Compton is an incredibly well made movie. For those that hate gangsta rap, this puts it all in perspective. Dre is a savant.

The Dark Unknown

i know its early but this year im going in hard for my requests for "scent of a woman" for thanksgiving. i been with the channel for 3 years and every year i hope to see it and it doesn't get picked. its such a good movie one of Pacinos best it got him best acting Oscar and was nominated best movie!

Mr. Writhms

Or "Fear of a Black Hat" lol

Mr. Writhms

Thanks for his poll! But we have to do this again... soon? Please poll the movies about: The Doors, Ray Charles, Elton John, Loretta Lynn, Prince, James Brown, Queen, and Tina Turner. Better yet... Just work your way through them all over time. 😁

maikeru

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

rictus grin

Immortal Beloved & Amadeus just to bring some classical into the mix

Noel Valdez

Walk the Line is so good! One of the best bio-pics ever made IMO. (I also just love Johnny Cash, music and the person. The director also did Logan, and Ford V. Ferrari! A Star is Born is one of those I understand why people like but I don't care for personally. But I only seen it once so if you guys get to it Id like to give it a second shot to see if I changed my mind any.

Mr. Treat

Too bad theres no Dewey Cox lol

JoeE

Would also recommend sing street

cincassette

They will never make me like music biopics.

Michael Buhl

Tommy featuring The Who might be good.

WellRoundedLeo

A great movie to add to the poll would have been What's love got to do with it the bio of Tina Turner

Jihad Lee

8 mile finally!!!!!

ExtraBigAssTaco

Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison in The Doors would be my suggestion.

William D

Very happy to see Inside Llewyn Davis and Almost Famous make a poll.

Phillyman!!

I have been WAITING for 8 Mile 💯💯🙏🙏🔥🔥

Alex

CB4 (1993) A mockumentary about the rap group CB4 starring Chris Rock. On this poll I will "Walk the 8 Mile"

Kyle Baker

Luckily only half of these are.

Dan Holmes

It’s amazing, one of my favorites ever 😊

Dan Holmes

When you watch Walk the Line, do your best to watch the theatrical version. It may not be easy to find unfortunately but it is the superior version. Then afterwards you will be ready for Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story 🤩 Also pls watch The Doors 🚪

Dan Holmes

Some of it? like 80% lol

sarCC

Since we're on the subject of music, are you going to get back to doing those song reactions? It's been a couple of months since the last one and I was curious if you've put it on the backburner for now or just decided to drop it entirely.

Dan Holmes

Things you need to watch, react to or know in order to fully grasp the majesty of Walk Hard: - Walk the Line - Love & Mercy (beach boys) - The Beatles Sgt. Peppers & White Album era - David Bowie (Starman) - Bob Dylan (60s era writing & live performance) - who Jack White is - 50s-80s rock music history - a way to control your sexual urges while Jenna Fischer is on screen - recreational drug use

Jason McCloud

Fictional musician but it's disappointing that Eddie and The Cruisers didn't make this list.

Opti_Frog

8 Mile is not bad, but i much prefer Almost Famous.

streaky

Low votes for A Star is Born is a bit of a crime :)

Jasper Collins

They already watched Blues Brothers. It's a great reaction!

Richard Burrell

You guys will enjoy 8 Mile - however Walk the Line is fantastic. Joaquin doing all the vocals is something else.

Chris

Ah that's a shame. Inside Llewyn Davis isna Coen brothers classic...

Dooly

Inside Llewyn Davis is my personal favorite.

Justtired

The film doesn’t get nearly enough praise

Scott CineRam

I hope you two take the time to see "Walk the Line" but also "The Man in the Moon" from 1991. Reese Witherspoon won her Oscar for WTL, but the earlier flick was her first, and is one of my all-time favorites.

Derek McCasky

Sing Street is better than all of these

Maiki

Wouldn't go that far, but it is a wonderful film.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

As far as I’m concerned “Walk Hard” did kill the musician biopic genre. Weird that they’ve had a come back recently but easy audience draw I guess.

RLYtoxic

8 mile is either a musical drama with bad acting or a musical comedy with amazing acting.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Musician biopics inspire great lead performances but they get formulaic after awhile. The ones I usually like to revisit are “Ray”, “Closer” (Ian Curtis of Joy Division), “Bird” (Charlie Parker) and “Love & Mercy” (Brian Wilson).

Erik D

The money *and* narrative control to make sure they were given ample screen time and shown in the best possible light.

Mr TV Eye

Well put. Biopics are often well done from a pure craftmanship point of view, but they often just don't seem to catch the "vibe" of the characters and the time. And sometimes, there are even downright stupid. But you picked some nice recommendations. Bird and Closer are great. Not the biggest Fan of Ray, but still one of the better for sure. Haven't seen the Wilson one yet. I somehow like "The Doors" quite a bit and think Amadeus is a fantastic movie. I know they take their liberties when it comes to historical correctness (esp. Amadeus), but I still think those are real good movie.

UnlicensedOkie

Both walk the line and 8 mile are awesome.

Phillyman!!

Almost famous has one of my all time favorite scenes 🔥💯

Huckleberry lobo

All Dogs Go To Heaven as a future recommendation after just learning the tragic backstory.

Jeremy

I used to love La Bamba, but haven't it watched it in like 20 years.

DDK

Can’t wait for A Star is Born! Gaga is great in it. Y’all should watch around when Joker 2 comes out for maximum algorithm advantages.

clh35

The Wall without the music isn't going to work.

2026-09-14 06:00 8 Mile isn't about Eminem, its a drama that used his background very loosely. It is not a biopic.
2024-08-26 20:06

clh35

4 of these 7 choices are about fictional musicians. I'm including 8 Mile, since they changed his name. I'd take E & the C's over most of these.

JayF

...what? All of the choices above have music. They just did a reaction to Grease. George will make it work.

clh35

Neither is Almost Famous, A Star is Born, or Inside Llewyn Davis. That's not the category, thankfully. Biopics generally suck.

clh35

There is literally no dialogue in The Wall. The rest might have music 20% of the time, which is probably a high estimate, not 100%. It would the most boring reaction ever.

G P

Walk Hard Weird: The Al Yankovic Story The Wedding Singer

Brandon Meng

Walk Hard doesn't get talked about like other comedies of its era but it's always been one of my favorites. Would be an absolute gem reaction on this channel. Probably should see Walk the Line first though. Also would be a great excuse to do some music reaction videos for some of these mentioned musicians, especially Jack White as he just came out with a fantastic new album. But yes, Walk Hard is glorious and I'm probably overdue for a rewatch!

Brandon Meng

8 Mile is fine. Good to watch for pop culture. You'll recognize some of the scenes because you've seen them spoofed in other things. All of these other movies are better. I think Almost Famous has been polled on this channel and lost like 13 times... is that a record? Can we a get a pity watch for this always the bridesmaid, never the bride movie? Immediately after Walk the Line, please oh dear god watch Walk Hard for a comedy. Shotgun approach to movie recommendations because I never know what kind of poll you'll do: Coming of Age: Perks of Being a Wallflower Drama: Manchester by the Sea Award Winner Classic: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri RomCom: Forgetting Sarah Marshall Sci-Fi: About Time Comedy: Walk Hard Cartoon: Up Cheers!

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Love “Amadeus” as well, just didn’t mention it since it’s already been watched for the channel. “Ray” I like for Jamie Foxx, who’s performance is among my favorite of all the musician biopics I’ve seen and I’m particularly fond of this era of R&B and Soul. Would definitely implore a watch of “Love & Mercy” as it’s among the more unique entries in this subgenre by using two leads to portray Wilson at different times, which helps it stray away from the conventional biopic structure.

FoH Film Club

Eminem Stan's in the community I see 😂

Shane Darcy

Almost Famous losing to 8 mile oh man 😅

Logan Kerlee

Nine Inch Nails did an AMAZING job covering that song!

Logan Kerlee

La Bamba would 1000% have my vote! I love that movie and would really enjoy seeing them react to it. :)

Happy Hanukkah

No disrespect for those who like it, but it's a *hard* pass for me. If I had seen it at home, I would have stopped watching very early on. As it is, I'm not convinced sitting through it all was the best choice*. At least my ticket was very cheap. (* For me, obviously.)

Happy Hanukkah

How quickly y'all have forgotten Chadwick Boseman! He starred in Get on Up, the 2014 James Brown biopic. (No, this is not really a recommendation.)

MPH

Almost Famous is the best movie ever, but 8 Mile is obviously more popular. Everything on this list but Elvis is gold. Watch them all.

MPH

Elton John or I'm on drugs?

MPH

Same with A Serious Man. Nobody cares about that masterpiece.

Eric Haines

What a list!! Been waiting for Almost Famous, omg! George needs to see tht movie, coming of age tale! Lets help em out LOL

Max Carter

Ah damn Inside Llewyn Davis is so underrated. Really good film imo

Jonathan Guzman

Walk Hard has so many quotable lines I still say to this day.

maxthesilent

if i'm gonna be subjected to a wooden michael pare' performance i'd rather they chose streets of fire

Dooly

Tragic backstory? You mean the whole Judith Barsi incident?

Godrick

straight outta comptons ability to educate on the inital impact of gangster rap in america cannot be understated

SootyBlackKitty

I’ve been waiting yyyeeaaaarrrssss for almost famous 😭

kbobravo

What's great about Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is how accurate it is. Probably the most legit music Biopic ever.

Kevin Kuma

Im going to guess 34 years old, with this list. Close? Very cool that you have "Bulletproof" on here.

Ayna

Can you add Moulin Rouge to a poll sometime? :)

G Lam

Would have been an appropriate (kinda) poll for Brassed Off (1996). A film I'm sure will sit at the bottom of your 'to watch' list because: 1. It's British, so much less known 2. nope, just one point.. it's British It's got the same IMDB score as 8 Mile though, and that's winning the poll as I write this

Eric J Watkins

I agree with whoever said these are ALL great movies, minus Elvis. Nothing against "The King", but the movie just didn't grip me tue way any of the others

Kevin Ehle

I saw 8-Mile when it came out since I was an Eminem fan. I found it disappointing. With a 54% Rotten Tomatoes viewer rating, I'm not the only one. Eminem is amazing. The movie not do much.

droodly

It was on the last "Musicals" poll they did and if I remember correctly came in 2nd to last. I was sad :(

Ciarra Jade

I really liked straight out of Compton .. but I live a couple blocks from 8 mile Rd and I work in downtown Detroit so I’d love to see you guys react to 8 Mile just because the locations are home to me 🥳🥳 And I get excited when I see the D represented 🤗

Kevin

Also instead of trivia for the comedies you should watch the bloopers! Especially This Is The End!

simon brouillard

from here on out I'm trying something new, I'm only voting for movies I haven't seen

Mycenaeus

I'd suggest "Great Balls of Fire!" (1989).

RLYtoxic

Selena would have been a good option.

Happy Hanukkah

Two "musician" movies starring Richard Dreyfuss: The Competition (1980), and Mr. Holland's Opus (1995).

Mathew Hill

Fair enough. I know it's heavily fictionalised, but that doesn't really bother me. It's entertainment, not a history lesson, and I enjoyed it. To each their own.

Happy Hanukkah

I'm sorry, this entire category must be held in abeyance until Kim Stanley Robinson's "The Memory of Whiteness" gets filmed. On second thought, this suspension would likely be eternal.

Chase Schleich

Wow. Just completely snubbing Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

MarisoL

In the next poll add: The Place Beyond the Pines starring Ryan Gosling

Be Human

One of the most important music documentaries of our time!

Dan Holmes

have you watched Popcorn in Bed's reaction to it? that's a great one :)

Viktor M

If you look for a great thriller for a later viewing then give Frailty (2001) a chance :)

SootyBlackKitty

I have 🥲 but I wanna see George react to it

John Richards

I'd suggest two bio-pics: "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "The Buddy Holly Story", and also "The Commitments" and "That Thing You Do" (Tom Hanks debut as director)

noah

hyped af for 8 mile

G Lam

Hey! Uncalled for... 'chaps'... We have women too!

Rachel W

Coal Miner's Daughter is so good.

Bob Bittner

I wouldn’t personally go so far as to say “travesty”—after all, no one ever said this was a documentary (and there are several fine ones available)—but some of the changes made to their story, particularly the chronology, seem hard to defend. (OTOH, the portrayal of the actual Live Aid performance is very nearly perfect. ) For the record, I’ve been a Queen fan since I discovered them in 1975. And I saw them live, in Chicago, in 1980, when Freddie was trying out his new “mustache” look (which wasn’t going over well at the time).

Lionbarber

That Thing You Do. Doesn't get nearly enough love and is f*cking delightful. Tom Hanks, Liv Tyler, Steve Zahn, I mean, c'mon.

Tim T—

Oh wow. Now I want a TV series of the Mars Trilogy. Six seasons and a movie!

punterjoe

If you DO watch "Almost Famous" PLEASE watch the director's cut (or as Cameron Crowe calls it - the bootleg edition .....inder its original title: "untitled" 🙄) This version has SO much more character development, I believe it would have won Kate Hudson the Oscar - instead of just the nomination. Plus lots more juicy Jimmy Fallon being unctiously scummy. No comparison to the gutted theatrical cut. (imo)
