I got the 4K blu-ray when it hit the Criterion collection. Excited to see how it looks.

Odd Thomas

Basically Short Circuit in space

Trent Fredrickson

Easily one of Pixar's best (if not the very best) in my opinion!

Jasbro

Probably my favorite Pixar movie of all time, right up there with Incredibles, i would also recommend Onward if you havent seen that, underrated movie of theirs imo.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Ah the Pixar character I’d most want to give a hug haha. Also love how this movie was practically a silent film for kids in its first half which is wonderful to see done so well. The Artist is a modern silent film I’d recommend checking out as well - great work by Jean Dujardin especially! Also the library in Vienna mentioned was actually a Beauty and The Beast inspiration. I think it has four museums, which is a flex and a half haha.

Joits

This is still my #1 Pixar movie.

Dale Smith

Wall-E is just baby Johnny 5 & I love it!

Godrick

Told a whole story between characters who have nearly 0 dialogue, had an important lesson, intersects wonderfully whimsy & speculative realism, things that aren't cute at all are adorable, and it doesn't treat kids like dummys- peak disney. When it was about making something, more then it was about profiting

Odd Thomas

Your next animated movie needs to be Wreck it Ralph. So good.

Paul McBryde

My anti-bucket list item is that I will never try to carpet stairs without proper tools again, turned out fine, but man what a nightmare, just hire someone next time, Paul.

djKENTO

Crazy Bucket list fact. The writer of The Bucket List movie… COINED THE TERM. it ingrained itself so deeply in the lexicon of every english speaker that people SWEAR they’ve heard it their whole lives… but nope. A guy wrote the first one in 1999 and then he wrote a movie about it… which was the first item on his list.

Theoshin

Here is hoping Short Cricut gets placed on a short list to watch now

djKENTO

The first Pixar movie to have a real life cinematographer dictate the shots which really elevated this above previous Pixar work

droodly

I love this movie. Great reaction... except we didn't have the usual "Is that Sigourney Weaver?" when the ship computer spoke. (It was!) :P

Odd Thomas

The thing with the plant reminded me you should watch Sunshine! Michelle Yeoh! Benedict Wong! Cillian Murphy!

Elvenwitch

While I agree that in reality a lot of people died, Pixar did put in a clue as the rest of humanity. While the Axiom is the flagship it is not the only ship on which humanity escaped its fate.

Opti_Frog

I'm not a huge Pixar fan. In fact, Ratatouille was the first Pixar film i really loved. And then came this masterpiece of science fiction. The first act of Wall-E are still my favourite 30 minutes of any Pixar movie. Turning Red has surpassed Wall-E as my favourite Pixar film, but Wall-E remains the best robot in cinema history.

Stugotz

Dude you're right! He totally looks like Johnny 5! Can't believe I've never noticed that before. Short Circuit is so good, I'm gonna watch it again, haven't watched it in years!

Shibby

I love this movie and it was super fun watching it again with you guys

MikeBdrx

well now you absolutely have to watch Short Circuit

Mastervodo

This is such a great movie. Loved the reaction. The end part when they think Wall-E has "died" always makes me cry.

Sir Jimmothy

FYI the Wall-E startup sound is the original MacOS sound!

David Lonewolf Wright

I will never try hákarl again. I am glad I got the courage to try it when I went to Iceland on my first trip, but awful. Make sure to never be stuck in a regular seat on a flight 3 hours or more as my legs will be in too much pain and makes me worried about blood clots. I liked my dinner at Hell's Kitchen, though I didn't feel the price for the food didn't line up. I mean the Beef Wellington was good, but not $80 good. I did try a 3oz A5 Wagyu Beef from Gordon Ramsey Steak at the Paris which was mind-blowing... even at the $115 price tag. Not sure if I can splurge to buy it again any time soon. I think EVE's gun and her quick draw nature was all part of the priority of her mission. I also like to think that Wall-E's self preservation programming modified over time to "fear". I always tear up when EVE throws away the shoe, love had overwritten her programming. You know when Pixar started up as it's own company was funded by Steve Jobs... just a little more of the Apple design influences. I don't think we need a prequel as it seems we are already living in that universe.

Michael

You should watch the short that goes along with this movie: Burn-E

Simone's Coconut Squire

Did you know the phrase "Bucket List" only goes back to 2007 and the movie "The Bucket List"?

Michal Novotny

Absolutely jumping on the Short Circuit bandwagon, was obsessed with it as a kid and still love it today!

Ry Jo

time for Short circuit (1986)

Shane Driscoll

A film about how giant corporations are soulless juggernauts that will plunge our planet into toxic squalor and reduce us into listless, inert slugs... brought to you by Disney.

Philipp Roensch

Fun fact: this movie must have multiple renders, because there are a lot of text and screens, they are localized in other languages. My Disc has like 4 versions on it :D You are right, this movie is cute and lovely, but also harsh protrayal of a dark future. But I like the good ending there with suspending some logic^^. Oh and, I don't know if you want to make it standard, but this Pixar movie also has an accompanying short film: Burn-E. Or Maybe Pixar shorts can be a special event :)

FranciscoGios

Well guys my anti-bucket list I have two; to never normal walk-thru multiple ground ant hives and think the ants will only sting your pants, those mighty ants get your skin red and please don’t judge me I was very young 😅. I have another one— Never follow a helicopter while looking thru the monoculars and try to follow it, it resulted me falling inside a bin full of cactuses my aunt had and my behind had multiple puncture wounds from the cactuses. The voice of the Axiom Computer was Sigourney Weaver’s 🤓, I know guys probably missed it.

Brazilian_Rebel

Has anyone ever suggested The Green Room ? George would love while Simone might hate it lol

akaTheBARON

I wasn't thinking the same thing until George said it XD

revnamjin

Antibucket list: Jump off of a cliff not knowing how to cliff dive, go to new york without someone else, ride a wave without a guide.

Alex Ch

Man, that Fisher Stevens “pretending to be Indian” character is a lot to get past if you didn’t grow up with it. I don’t think I could recommend that film to anyone new.

Alex Ch

If Simone has never seen Hello Dolly, it could be a fun watchalong if we ever do another classic musical.

REDR58

“BNL star liners leaving each day” and a “fleet” of ships is mentioned early on in the movie.

REDR58

Wall-E’s voice actor is Ben Burtt, a sound designer who has developed sound effects for a whole slew of movies, notably the Star Wars and Indiana Jones series, E.T. and the 2009 Star Trek movie.

Nate Terry

LOL, there is an 80's movie called Short Circuit that was live action that had a robot named Johnny 5 who looks like Wall-E but human size. all practical effects!

Amper Sand

Without spoiling the movie: at the time it was made, Apple was a major Pixar shareholder - that explains some sounds and designs in the movie.

Jacob King

So, there is a R rated version of this story which shows the dark bits. It’s called Cloud Atlas and it’s an absolute masterpiece. Easily one of the best movies of the last twenty years. You just have to sub in Sonmi 451 for Wall-E.

Gary Fixler

Re: Disney being litigious, I was shocked some years ago, because I was considering making some things in my garage to sell on Etsy, and looking there I found what felt like thousands of people selling homemade Disney things. I couldn't believe they were all getting away with it. I actually have a friend from art school who became really popular with Disney fan art, and even people working at Disney loved her work. She went to Disney World wearing a shirt with her Disney art on it, and the lady working the ticket booth saw it and told her "you know I hear she's in the park today!" My friend asked "Who is?" and the lady said her name to her. Someone who worked at the park saw her and I guess texted other workers, but this lady didn't recognize her. So yeah, not only not litigious, but you end up with fans in the company.

Gary Fixler

I used to work for Disney, and I got to go to an early screening of this movie on the lot in Burbank. They had only finished up to when the humans appear, and not even all of that, so in the early part, some things looked unfinished, and occasionally switched to uncolored drawings, but literally the second the humans appeared, it went fully to sketches and story boards for the rest of the film. There were no shots of the humans as 3D characters, and almost no animation. It is absolutely hypnotic to watch half a movie as a bunch of stills of sketches, with all the audio and explosions and things in the background, because the audio is pretty much finalized first. After a while it's like you're in a fever dream, and reality starts to dissolve 😆

Kevin Knadle

What kind of mutated guinea pigs do you have in Canada?

Pearl Jam

Never found out what was on George’s dirty mind! Inquiring minds want to know.

MasterElodin

Oh that's fascinating! I never would've thought that audio would be first. Seems like you want to know what it looks like before making audio for it..

Gary Fixler

They have to watch this. I think people have brought it up before, so I'm sure it's on their radar.

Gary Fixler

Someone's probably already detailed this in a comment at some point, but Ben Burtt is also the guy credited with naming the Wilhelm Scream. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_scream Original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc5F2C0CYlA Once you know it, you hear it in everything: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Gremlins, Die Hard, The Fifth Element, Poltergeist, and probably 500 other movies. It's a sound effect world in-joke. My intro to it was watching Ren & Stimpy with two friends in college, and in the middle of nothing, they both burst out laughing. They had to explain to me that they had started to notice a certain ridiculous scream in everything, and just heard it in R&S. It was the late 90s, and it was on TV, so we couldn't go back and re-listen, so I didn't get to hear it until many years later. I've heard it several times in Cinebinge reactions, though I don't know if they noticed it. I even heard it once in a Spider Man game for the Game Boy Advance. I threw a guy off a ledge, and he Wilhelmed. There are many compilation videos of it, but there may be spoilers for films not seen yet hidden in those. IMDB's list of currently 152 examples: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls063777079/ Maybe Cinebinge can do all of these, and then do a super cut of all 152 times they've heard it 😆

Noel Valdez

My anti-bucket list would be to not do a rope course again. I thought since I like rollercoasters I wouldn't be scared but I was terrified and it was like only 20 feet up in the air. Lol also go to a party or get together with just dudes. I can't just hang out with only men, I like multi gendered friend groups and parties.

Thomas Young

You guys should check out Short Circuit 1 and 2. I've always felt like Wall-E's design was partially inspired by the robot from them (Johnny 5.)

Justin Leone

The plants in The Martian froze so quickly because they were exposed to a blast of extremely cold air rushing over them. A plant exposed to a vacuum wouldn't rapidly change temperature because there's no conduction (let alone convection) to rapidly exchange heat. I've no idea how long a plant would survive in the vacuum of space, but it's plausible that it could survive a short while. So could a human, for that matter, regardless of the dramatic liberties some movies take.

Mitchell Bowker

George, not sure how you, being the huge The Simpsons fan that you are, missed that Simpsons reference in the intro. "It's the reed!" That's a strike against your record. Two more strikes and you may have to forfeit your The Simpsons fan membership card.
