Joshua Couch

Didn't expect a Max Fosh reference as an opener but I'm here for it

JediLounger

Another movie from this era I liked was Tag (2018). Also very similar in terms of how silly it is, adults being very serious about non serious things.

Brazilian_Rebel

Hopefully you guys got to the Bad Boys franchise too Another comedy suggestion would definitely be Seth Rogans “Good Boys”

Kasa

Prisoners (2013)

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

This is a real under the radar gem for sure and a lot of fun. The board game references are excellently utilised and that delivery of “oh no he died” had me rolling on first viewing haha. That said John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have a knack for dark comedy writing. Horrible Bosses is another one of their contributions that’s fun too.

Kasa

the diorama effect in the establishing shots is called tilt shift photography. In this movie in particular, its supposed to mimic the monopoly pieces

kbobravo

With how much you loved Rachel McAdams, you should really finally check out Spotlight.

Jacob King

Great movie, zero expectations is the best way to see it. I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema and was blown away. The dumb guy is Billy Magnussen and he is the greatest loveable idiot of all time. His handsome prince duet in Into The Woods is the best bit of that movie. Also, his part in Damsels in Distress, so good.

benjamin hall

Completely agree, this is an underrated movie!

Mastervodo

I think you right right Simone. Creatures are assigned damage first. Then there is a phase to mitigate or change them dying. Then they die, and that triggers the card you are talking about. Then any remaining damage is assigned to you. (See rule 510, “Combat Damage Step.”) 702.19b The controller of an attacking creature with trample first assigns damage to the creature(s) blocking it.

Shonnicus

I watched the YT version and nice job making the blood purple for censorship. I'm sure mentioned but Kyle Chandler and Jesse Plenmons were in a tv series 'Friday Night Lights". Friday Night Lights is very American centric centered around US high school football as a back drop. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are great.

djKENTO

This makes me so sad that you aren’t doing A24 films because Jesse Plemmons is INCREDIBLE in Civil War.

Paul Peavler

I hadn’t seen this movie since it first came out and I forgot how good it is. Also, the Director of Photography went so hard for absolutely no reason and that’s great.

REDR58

That Friday Night Lights series which premiered in 2006 was preceded by a movie “Friday Night Lights” in 2004 directed by Peter Berg based on the book “Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream” by H. G. Bissinger from 1990.

Mastervodo

You know... on the other hand... if they assign damage to the creatures..... the rest of the damage is then assigned to you..... then the damage dealing phase happens..... and the creatures die as you do.

Dragonhunter

Saw it for the first time and it was so cool seeing Michael C. Hall again.

Nat B

This movie keeps getting funnier every time I see it.

Andrew

This reaction was clearly pointing the channel in the direction of reacting to ''Primal Fear (1996)'' Edward Norton

ExtraBigAssTaco

"Oh no he died" and "...blood!" (when Bateman gets shot in the arm) are my favorite little moments.

Monica Alarcon

I wish you would react to Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga starring Rachel McAdams and that tall funny guy...

akaTheBARON

Making this comment during the intro since you mentioned Horrible Bosses, I highly recommend that one. The sequel isn't bad either.

Grandalf

Never apologize for nerding out on MTG! 'm actually interrupting my grind to mythic on Arena to hang with you two for a movie I actually haven't seen yet! Skol!

Tay Schumaker

Yeah Horrible Bosses is great. The three leads have such great chemistry, and a very similar style of comedy to this

Tay Schumaker

I don't think you saw that the "dumb guy" went to Harvard. You could see it on the board at the end

StrayConfusion

I completely forgot Michael C Hall was in this, a good surprise villain even on a second watch. His series, Dexter (2006), would be a great long series candidate after Better Call Saul.

Steve Mercier

This has to be one of the best comedies I've seen in a long time, which completely threw me for a loop the first time I saw it...but in a good way. Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams have spectacular chemistry, the whole cast is great, but Jesse Plemons steals the show...but in a good way.

Prof. Writhms

That was actually Wenzel Dashington in the movie.

shaneth138

One of the funnest comedies in a long time. BTW that scene where they are running around the mansion with the egg is all one long shot. Definitely worth rewatching that part with that in mind!

Alex Ch

Thanks, I was excited for this one. As some of you have commented down below, the line readings in this one are really extraordinary.

Starman Deluxe

What I love about the way Billy Magnussen played Ryan is he would say lines as if he was the one exacerbated with someone saying something dumb, but he's just not getting it and saying the idiotic thing

REDR58

Great reactions. First time for me for this movie. I believe Gary was *only* shot for real just below his shoulder, so that can be survivable for awhile. Do check out “Philadelphia” (1993) with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. Also “Wall Street” (1987) with Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas.

Jon

Off topic, but Lego appears to have the tower of Baradur and Rivendell set. You two make of that what you will :D

MacGuffinStuff

I knew you guys would love this one, seriously, anything Justin Bateman is involved with I'm already in, I guess he's gotten a lot better at choosing projects since Teen Wolf 'Too'. But one thing I had to point out was about those shots that zoom in from a model into the live action scene, I think they got that from, maybe an homage to, "The 'Burbs", the opening shot is juat like that. Joe Dante directed, Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher, it's not really horror, well kind of, more comedy, but it kind of fits in with the spooky season coming up, just saying.

DinChild

Truly, you need to watch Fargo, the TV anthology series. I think looking into season 2 would be spoilers, at this point. But it would be such a great payoff!

JoeE

For series would recommend Friday night lights, freaks and geeks

Gary Fixler

Edit: and there it is as the first trivia item. Gets me every time! I don't know for sure, but I think the "game board" look of some shots was an old technique called tilt-shift photography. I actually played with that technique in college photo classes. When the lens is out of plane with the film or sensor (which I just said in my head like Spock), it creates a line of focus across the image, with the rest getting out of focus as it gets further from that line. Because we only ever see that look with very short depths of field, like with macro lenses, our brains tell us that what we're seeing is very small, like things on a tabletop. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilt%E2%80%93shift_photography

Anthony Fumai

If you want a really different movie with Jesse Plemons, you should watch “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”. It’s a Charlie Kaufman film that came out in 2020. Sooooo interesting and he is amazing in it.

Odd Thomas

Please watch The Frighteners

Odd Thomas

Yeah Netflix etc will show you thumbnails specifically to appeal to your taste

Odd Thomas

Game Night was actually a pretty decent hit critically and commercially; partly why they got to make the D&D movie. For more Rachel McAdams I recommend season 2 of True Detective and the Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jnr. For more Jason Bateman: Arrested Development (TV) and Office Christmas Party. Kyle Chandler (the brother) is in Peter Jackson's King Kong, another must watch (preferably the director's cut)

Luca

I think you should also watch the movie tag from 2018. I think you'd like it

zak

Such a fun film, my only complaint about it, such a waste of Michael C. Hall's talents, under appreciated actor.

FranciscoGios

I’ve always wanted for you guys to react to this fun movie, and I also I agreed that for some reason it’s not so popular.

SpankTheMonk

Woohoo! 🙌 🎉🇨🇦🔥🙌🫶

Orphan Crippler

Please do horrible Bosses 1 and 2 if you liked this movie, This movie is the lovechild of those 2 movies

Gary Fixler

I wanted to live in the Silver Spoons house when I was a kid. Little Ricky Schroder played Rick on that show, and they lived in a mansion, and he had a row of arcade games, and there were always big, cool toys. I think toy companies used the show to promote things. I also had a little boy crush on Erin Gray, and you can probably see why in this clip. She also played Col. Wilma Deering on Buck Rogers. You can also see what a jerk Rick's friend, Justin Bateman's "Derek", was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTLHxHhIB3M It also had one of those 80s opening songs we all loved: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x8HTFQcmKI The zaniest moment was when Menudo showed up: https://youtu.be/z1lNmzsu04o?t=19 It also featured a very young Alfonso Ribeiro.

woodsfish

Horrible bosses 1&2 are great

beefjerkywizard

Please watch Fargo season 1 and then you can watch the second season and enjoy another awesome role played by Jesse (Penis) Plemons

TheSentry77

I swear to god... as much as I love your reactions to the movies themselves, I absolutely adore those incoherent Simone ramblings 😄 Don't ever stop being you, Simone, you're awesome!

Philipp Roensch

Finally got to this movie as well, always heard good things, but damn that is a great comedy and smart! Exactly my thing, the lovely cast as well, truly inspired. Joking Hazard is the card game by Cyanide and Happiness, the web cartoons.

China Andronicus

I absolutely love this film, except for them actually having a kid. They are psychotically competitive and just from the way they're going off about how much better their children will be tells you what kind of pressure that poor child will be under. No one like that should have kids. Absolutely agree about Lamorne Morris. As a NG fan, I lost it when he turned up onscreen. He's amazing.

mky

Simone & George, in case no one has mentioned it, the "rope" game piece during opening credits is from the board game version of Clue. Cheers!

Juley

There are so many movie references in this. I’m surprised you haven’t seen more of them. I love when the actors refer to their own stuff. A great one is when Jesse Plemons said “but what do I know about chemistry?” And you must watch Dexter!! So many things Michael C. Hall said and did were references to his character. It’s kind of crazy what context will do. The exact things he did/said were so sinister in the show, but they hit different in a comedy!

Mark Alex Leach

I hate to point it out, especially if someone has already done so earlier, but those were not miniatures or model streets, houses and trees. They weren't dioramas. Those were shot with a special tilt-shift lens which makes it look like miniatures are being filmed.
