Comments

DonkyDave

Gattaca or Stargate please!!

Skylar Burns

Source code is SUPER under rated! Prob won't win but I encourage every sci Fi fan to watch

Bonny T

Gattaca 🧬💗

CT

ALL OF THEM

JH138138

Sunshine is such an underrated movie…

Erik D

The genre-straddling Sunshine is criminally underrated.

Nate Gavin

A lot of excellent choices here!

Ronny Boss

Had to go with Stargate. Such a classic film every sci-fi fan should watch at least once

Joe Williams

Sunshine is so underrated. AI and Gattaca are bangers too.

Charles Gaba

Oh wow…wonderful selection. All of them are worth a watch for different reasons. Gattaca is probably the most thoughtful. Stargate is probably the most dumb fun.

pinkdino99

The Tron sequel is excellent fun and a treat for both the eyes and ears.

Ian Hunt

Sunshine & Source Code are both really underrated IMO

Zhivko Yakimov

I must say, this time the poll doesn't really have a weak entry. Some are stronger than others, naturally, but overall, I'd recommend watching every film on the list, eventually.

Mandi

Let’s go Tron!!!

The Gunslinger

A sci fi film you should check out is Oblivion with Tom Cruise. It's very underrated with an incredible score from M83.

DemNikoArt

SUNSHINE!!! Yes!!! Please, please, please 🤩🤩🤩

John

This is a great poll, but Gattaca, Gattaca, Gattaca

Kovacs

AI would be my choice but that’s heavily tinged with nostalgia for me, still good selection overall

Helly R

ALL of them!

Ampersander7

Suggestion: Dark City (1998)

Balmung

Stargate has no business holding up as well as it does

Rachel W

"Close Encounters"!

Anthony Harris

So underrated and one of my fav sci-fi films

Ethan Holgate

Source code is so good saw that in the cinema as a kid but looks like stargate is winning can't argue with that as that's another great one

John Briggs

Gattaca is one of the beautiful films I’ve ever seen.

Raymond DeGraw

Always love your reactions... Hoping for Stargate on this poll... Looking forward to seeing these in the future. 1. Alita Battle Angel 2. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) 3. Little Shop of Horrors (1986) theatrical 4. Falling Down 5. Secondhand Lions

skullking86

I would love to see you watch batteries not included it's a great movie

Villa Lobos

Can you add Short Circuit 1986. I think Simone would love his personality and George would like the practical efforts. Also they’ll love the sequel.

Brendan Rafferty

Glad to see Deep Impact in the poll. Sad to see it trailing.

Logan Kerlee

I'm always down to watch Gattaca! :) Such a great sci fi flick.

Yaron Assa

Gattaca is so great, it would be a great movie just for the plot, and a great movie just for the Scifi social implications. So you're getting two great movies for the price of one.

streaky

Massively underrated movie. Not surprised to Stargate beating it though..

ProIndy

Stargate! Come on! And after the movie maybe the series? ;D I'd really like to see that, but fully understand that it would be an enormous undertaking. Still, one can always hope and cross fingers! :D

JoeNotCharles

(Al Pacino voice) Gattaca! GATTACA!

Nabikon

Cmon Gattaca! One of my all-time favorites!

Florian

Sunshine is so great, but I get it that it doesn't szand a chance against Stargate 😭

Logan Kerlee

I'm voting for three of the movies on the list - Stargate, Tron and Gattaca. I'd love for them to react to each but I'd be happiest with them watching Gattaca or Tron. From the look of things on the poll, Stargate will hold the lead that it has currently. Not upset about it at all - it's just the movie that I'm the least passionate about them to react to. Either way, it'll be loads of fun. :)

D

The OG Tron is surprisingly ahead of its time, and if you haven't seen the newer Tron movie you can do both, a really great series imo.

Michael Bauer

Well... uuh... can you do all of them? 😅

Tim T—

Brazil (1985) is a form of Sci-Fi dystopia. Just saying. BUT TODAY I'M VOTING FOR GATTACA, FINALLY!

Michael Buhl

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension would be a great addition to this poll.

Cinebinge

eventually someday we will, but for next week, which do you prefer first? :P

Liesmith

Stargate and Gattaca are both great for this channel.

Random Nevermind

Couple of Sci-fi movies to add to the next voting. Twelve Monkeys (1995) Moon (2009) P.S. I hope Gattaca and A.I gonna win with the same amount of votes. To be watched both as soon as possible. P.P.S. Stargate is also a cool one

James Lawson

if both are high they will hopefully do both :D

W T

Almost all of these are essential sci-fi, the only ones I don't hold in high esteem are Deep Impact and Tron - and the latter I appreciate for its legacy regardless. Best movies for me: Source Code, easily, followed by Sunshine. Stargate is competing, though, amazing adventure with a fun focus on language.

Max Carter

Gattaca and Sunshine are both elite. My pick is Gattaca though, truly thought provoking and well made film. Sunshine also has great ideas but it's a little more inconsistent

Aaron Stinson

Now that the leaves are changing colors, I’m going to recommend Sleepy Hollow (1999)

AVATAR-X

I second the Stargate (movie) into Stargate SG-1 (tv sequel) recommendation. It's my second favorite television series, next to Babylon 5 - and that's coming from someone who grew up watching Star Trek and Doctor who.

Spacedone

SG-1 is just too big for a reaction channel I think. 214 episodes in total, not including the movies or spin-off series. Give them something a little more bite-sized to chew on like BSG, Fringe or Farscape... 😅

Spacedone

It got overshadowed by the Armageddon hype.

Logan Kerlee

lol, there are react channels that have watched all of Smallville - every single one of the 217 episodes, so I don't think that Stargate is an IMPOSSIBLE ask - but it's one that requires dedication from us and them. If you want them to react to it, you've just got to mention it for polls and gather people's interest in it! :)

Michael Bauer

Hmm... I usually prefer my sci-fi to deal explicitly with social and philosophical issues (became a Patron when you started doing Trek 😊)... so I'll opt for Gattaca. But they're all worth watching.

Logan Kerlee

Armageddon was the superior film between the two. Deep Impact is a good one - Armageddon's just better.

Logan Kerlee

Short Circuit would be a BLAST! Not only from the past but it's also a great deal of fun. :)

Jonas

This poll has too much good in it. No clear winner.

Logan Kerlee

I'd 1000% be down for an all day watchalong thing! xD lmao, it'd be so much fun! :)

Amar

Source Code is the definition of "Underrated" according to this poll. Either that or no one has watched it lol

Opti_Frog

Happily surprised to see so many votes for A.I..

ProIndy

Logan, yeah, I have mentioned it in comments once or twice, but I don't feel good about spamming it all the time. Now, as the movie was a poll entry, I had to mention it again. I hope Simone and George like the movie enough to consider SG-1. But partly I feel the same as Spacedone, the series might be to long. SG-1 is amazing, and by far my favorite series ever, but still, I get why they may not wanna/be able to take it onto the channel.

JayF

Twelve Monkeys - My favorite Pitt performance Planet of the Apes (original) The Ice Pirates (sci-fi comedy) Close Encounters of the Third Kind Super 8 Starman

maikeru

some creepy films for october/halloween: Cujo (1983) Sinister (2012) Pet Sematary (1989) Jeepers Creepers (2001) The Hills Have Eyes (2006) Bones and All (2022)

streaky

Yeah it is a decent movie. Though thinking about it I've never really had the urge to rewatch it, couldn't tell you why.

streaky

Armageddon is a cheese-fest. At least Deep Impact tried to not be silly - and I say this as somebody who likes Michael Bay movies (Pain & Gain wen?). You could do better for sure, but also it's fairly decent.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the current leader in the poll, but I really hope that SUNSHINE takes the lead. The leader as of now is a decent, fun piece of 90's scif-fi action schlok, where, in my opinion, Sunshine is a more nuanced film with a great cast, director and writer. The only reason it isn't more popular is the huge tone shift in the third act. Even considering that, I never fail to enjoy watching it. I thank you for your time, and I approve this message. ;)

Logan Kerlee

I very much enjoyed the first Tron sequel but after that it got kind of predictable for me so I lost interest. Still good - just less exciting because I was expecting things to happen and sure enough they did. Now - OG Tron, that's a good one! I won't be voting for it here, now but it's definitely one that I'll be open to vote on in a future poll.

Logan Kerlee

100%, 100%. I get both of your views on it. I was just wanting to let 'em know that IT IS POSSIBLE - however unlikely it is, IT CAN HAPPEN. xD <3

Logan Kerlee

lmao, I won't argue for a second that Armageddon isn't a cheese fest. IT CLEARLY IS. You cannot watch that and expect ANYTHING to make scientific sense. It's a FUN movie though with a kickass soundtrack. :)

Logan Kerlee

What do you mean by this? :/ Are you saying that Stargate has no business doing this well on the poll, or?

G P

Stargate! I'm surprised this one hasn't been done yet. Also recommending: 12 Monkeys Brazil Mad Max

Angzarr

I'd never even heard of it!

Daniel Smith

If that film finished at what felt like the appropriate end point, I would have A.I. In my personal top 10 of all time.

Daniel Smith

Would be interesting to watch their reaction to Deep Impact considering they have watched Armageddon.

Gee

Damn, all of these are great movies and worthy of a watch. I could only narrow it down to 5 lol.

Horrible

Source code is awesome

Amar

When you know the ending it's not a re-watch movie. Many movies have the effect on me that i like.

JoeE

Would definitely recommend dog day afternoon

HeyHeyJK

They would love all three, but '12 Monkeys' and 'Brazil' are just so good.

Daniel Smith

Think of Deep Impact as the science version of the Asteroid genre.

Kevin Kuma

"Source Code" is one of those TV movies that when its on, you always watch till the end. I find Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga, addictive in their roles.

Balmung

No, I mean I watched it recently and it's still a great movie. I'm saying it's aged really well!!

Alexrandom

A.I. is one of the most underrated Spielberg film. It's pretty great even though it can be a little grim. And seeing how it was supposed to be made by Kubrick it's understandable. I hope you guys watch it one day. Almost every Spielberg is worth it in my opinion !

Galactic Cannibl

I named my TV Stargate on my Wi-Fi Because it's a portal to many new universes

L77045

Looking forward to you guys' reactions to Gattaca, Tron, and Stargate : )

Vincent

Gattaca ✅ Deep Impact ✅ Stargate ✅

Astraeos

Gattaca is never, ever going to win a poll. It's freakin depressing. Side note, I think I've mentioned it before, but some runner up polls would be fantastic. So, so many good movies have been runner up. Lotta people in this thread talking up Sunshine, I'll have to check it out. I've never heard of it before, ever, and it has pretty miserable reviews, but people in this thread seem to say it's really good.

Astraeos

I've never even heard of Sunshine, yet it's going to take 2nd place lol.

Tay Schumaker

They usually end up doing the runners ups on a Thursday or Sunday, and Sunshine is incredible but it has a very divisive third act which really splits people

Athenor

Some good movie choices here but a suggestion I have is Soldier, an awesome movie that never gets mentioned. I loved it and was sure it would do well, then it didn't and I was sure it would become a cult classic, but it didn't do that either so it's become a hidden gem I tell others about in the darkened alleys of the interwebs :)

Muir Lyman

Source Code is waaaaay better than the small number of votes it's gotten might suggest . Massively underrated movie, in my opinion.

Matthew Johnson

This is a wild list, no skips on here. I hope you get to all of them!!

j c

Gattaca is fantastic and a real shame that it won't win because it's not as well known

Mr. Writhms

Request for the next sci-fi movie poll: “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (Steven Spielberg, 1977) “Starman” (John Carpenter, 1984)

Dan

Ah, finally a poll where GATTACA stands a chance lol

AVATAR-X

I'm morally obligated to mention "The Last Starfighter (1984)" for future consideration. Though not universally loved, it has a cult following for its gamer wish fulfillment and pioneering use of CGI in a motion picture, along with Tron (1982).

Daryl 👽

Come on, Deep Impact! You got this!!! ^o^

beecroft adams

Film suggestions. Grosse Point Blank. Lars and the real girl. Barton Fink. Up. The Ghost and the Darkness. Mary and Max. Anomilisa. Being John Malkovich then Adapation. The Dish. Hell or High Water. Wind River. Nightcrawler. Green Room. Safety not guaranteed.

Ari Ramirez

Tron is great! It may look a little goofy nowadays, but it's got some impressive imagery. And if you're up for it, it's a good primer for Tron Legacy, which is not only better, but actually inspired me to pursue my current career.

Stephanie Bedworth

I was the same, REDR58. I saw Armageddon in the theatre and I hated it. I've tried to watch it a few times over the years, thinking maybe my opinion would have softened but no, still hate it. And I'm someone who normally loves big, dumb action movies. I can't even tell you how many times I've watched San Andreas. Deep Impact is not a perfect movie at all but it is, by far, the better movie of the two. Less action and more serious.

Christian Rennie

I second The Last Starfighter. Classic 80s. I am totally on the cult following train👍 The score is amazing, the graphics are ground breaking, and the story & characters are all charming. Also, I think it’s Robert Preston’s last role.

Christian Rennie

Stargate is my pick and Sunshine next. But Tron is really worth seeing for the cool visuals and early cgi. Along with The Last Starfighter for the cgi. Also, one of my favorite movies growing up with one of the earliest integrated cgi “interacting” with live actors in one scene is Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). While I’m on fav movies, consider The Journey of Natty Gann (1985), such a great coming age adventure drama.

howtocookazombie (Stan)

Soo many good movies! GATTACA, Stargate and A.I. are my favorites of them. We need a movie-marathon. A "Sci-Fi week". 😁🍿 I'm glad that Stargate seems to win, but GATTACA is probably the best of all of them in my personal opinion.

Rooster Aleution

It's really surprising that Close Encounters of the Third Kind hasn't been done yet. It had such a big impact on the film industry and popular culture.

AC10

Has anyone here every seen a better into to a YouTube like video??? I'm serious link it for me please. 😬

sahliente

A few movie suggestions: Out of Sight - 1998 Bottle Rocket - 1996 Requiem of Dream - 2000

Jeff K.

Stargate is one of those movies that I remember being super hyped for, and then pretty disappointed by. But at least it spun off into some good shows. SG-1 and Atlantis obviously, but I can't help it, I loved SGU as well. Really felt like it was hitting its stride when they canceled it.

Jonathan

Kudos to everyone voting for Gattaca and Tron. I never thought Gattaca would make it so high. That movie is fantastic. However, Stargate is a scifi classic and mandatory viewing, nothing else can beat it. :)

Jonathan

Soldier is so darn good. And so little dialog from the lead actor. :)

Jonathan

How weird, I've never heard of Sunshine. I've been a hard core scifi nerd for my entire life. Funny something snuck past me.

maikeru

Gattaca has been on polls a couple of times, never top 2 unfortunately (it‘s important to reach at least 2nd place bc S&G usually watch those too, shorty after they watched the poll winner)

maikeru

*Requiem for a Dream 🙂

maikeru

Still waiting for an Arnie Poll 🥲

imperial

Gattaca is criminally underrated. Think I've only ever watched one reaction to it. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and I know George and Simone's commentary would be so interesting, especially with all of their recent Black Mirror discussions.

Farbod

So many good choices! Other than AI and Deep Impact, the rest are quality!

Alex Tamayo

Have yall seen 187? One of Samuel Jackson's most underrated and best performances to date.

Jonathan

This pesky Sunshine messing with the master plan!

ExtraBigAssTaco

Simone and George have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Kodan Armada!

Shonnicus

RIP James Earl Jones 1931-2024 Dr Strangelove (1964) The Great White Hope (1970) Star Wars (1977) Coming to America (1988) Field of Dreams (1989) Tom Clancy series The Sandlot (1993) The Lion King (1994)

temsik28

I wanted to vote for Gattaca and Stargate. Impulse picked Stargate at the last second in case it has a chance of leading to some SG-1 in the future.

Brandon Meng

Votes for Source Code and Sunshine for me. Would like to see About Time and Moon added to your next Sci-Fi poll. Other genre considerations: Perks of Being a Wallflower Manchester by the Sea Forgetting Sarah Marshall Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Sideways Cheers!

iFixSAN

Argh. So many good ones on this list. So little time.

Nat B

Sunshine is great.

DemNikoArt

Okay, I'm gonna say it: Stargate is ooooverrated! There I said it! 😁 But I think George will like it because of the historical stuff 😊 Sunshine all the way! Also suggestion: Chronicle!!! (Found footage super hero movie)

beefjerkywizard

Circling back to the last poll, I think you two should give Patriot Games a spin. Especially after the sad news today that the legend himself, James Earl Jones passed.

beefjerkywizard

As for this poll, all choices yet again are interesting!

Revann117

I can’t be too disappointed if Stargate wins as I love the original film SG1 and Atlantis. That being said, I believe Gattica to be the best film in this list by a wide margin. It’s a 27 year old Sci-fy movie whose subject matter has only grown in relevance since its release. If that’s not a good sign of an excellent sci-fy movie I don’t know what is. At the same time It delves into the nature of the human condition as much as it does the scientific aspects of the film

Zephyr (AD)

Agreed. Love the original Stargate, but really hope more folks see/react to Gattaca. Such a great film, and great sci-fi!

imperial

I am really LOVING all of the Gattaca love in the comments. I always felt so alone in saying it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I had no idea there were so many of you out there who agree! It definitely deserves more recognition.

Shonnicus

Perhaps Criterion Channel might have a dedication or TMC @ Max Watched it when I was young on cable. Likely on Turner Classic Movies (TMC)

Com1xguy

Some pretty good films on this week's list.

Jpsynergy

Sunshine enjoyers stepping up on this one.

Shonnicus

Oh yeah! That's my movie. He was great a Thulsa Doom

Cromulentius

One of these days, Gattaca... One of these days.

John

That is terrible, he was great in the Jack Ryan series, I would recommend The Man from early 1970s it is hard to find, but he is great in it. Also Field of Dreams, The Bingo Long Traveling allstars and motor kings from 1976. Those are pre-star wars

Jacob King

Agreeing on Stargate (and Sunshine) as someone who saw and loved Stargate at the cinema when I was a tween it doesn’t really hold up. It is the most Roland Emmerich of all Roland Emmerich films but it’s a bit too conceptual and lacking in real characters and story.

beefjerkywizard

Love his character in Field of Dreams. I'll have to check out his pre-Star Wars work. The man was crazy talented.

maikeru

It overtook Sunshine! 🥳🎊

maikeru

James Earl Jones died today 😔

Glenner7

The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)

Mikebdrx

Nooooooooo!!!!

Wesley Lara

Next time you do an animation poll, you gotta have Wolfwalkers as one of the choices!! One of the best movies of the 2020s and streamable on Apple TV+!

Hamesque

This may have been the hardest poll to vote on.

Hamesque

But the right answer is Gattaca. If you've seen it you voted for it. If you didn't see it you should vote for it.

BzzBzzBzzBzzBzz

'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' is a must watch. I am surprised you guys did not watch it before 'Paul'

Viktor M

Critters....pleassseeeeee

ExtraBigAssTaco

I wouldn't call Chronicle a "hero" movie...but it would be an interesting reaction.

DemNikoArt

True. More of a villain origin story :D

Collinson

Would love to see Once Were Warriors a little known film set in New Zealand. Also where Temuera Morrison(Boba Fett) got his start.

BoredLittleLady

Here are two recommendations for sci-fi movies I don’t believe you’ve watched for the channel. Super 8 (2011) and The Tomorrow War (2021).

Khan1001

RIP Lord Vader

Khan1001

Come on Sunshine! very underrated Danny Boyle classic

Justin Hunt

One day Sunshine will win.

Adam Custer

Please add "A Million Ways to Die in the West" to your watch list.

rictus grin

a few 70's scifi movies Rollerball (1975) Silent Running (1972) Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) Phase IV (1974)

Jpsynergy

It's such a rare movie for people to react to. Eventually it'll get there if they keep adding it to polls.

Garrett Jay Christian

I've definitely thrown Super 8 out there before, so here's hoping they weight by frequency. 🤞

Magnificent Gojira

that's a nice selection. I'd add Andromeda Strain, Stepford Wives, Logan's Run and The Man Who Fell to Earth. I personally love Zardoz, but it doesn't seem to stand a chance here

Joe

I love Kurt Russell, and Roland Emmerich has made some legit fun movies. That being said, Stargate is not a good movie and Kurt Russell is not good in it. But I understand that not everyone will like every movie, so those that do enjoy it…enjoy! Catch ya on the next one.

MPH

Gattaca is excellent. It is the ultimate progressive, dystopian nightmare sci-fi movie.

Shonnicus

Underrated Jeff Bridges film with Clint Eastwood; Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)

Zephyr (AD)

Ah! Someone else who knows Phase IV exists! What a weird and wild movie.

Strangelove50

I second what several other commenters have said, hoping Gattaca pulls ahead in votes. It is one of my favorites, and ripe for discussion with where we are headed, its message even more relevant now than when the movie first came out. If it doesn't manage to pull ahead, perhaps we can do runners up, second place winners sometime in the future.

Chris Adams

This poll has been a rollercoaster of emotions

Terry Light

Sunshine needs a bit more love than it gets.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Agreed! Some good ones on this poll, but SUNSHINE is by far my favorite here.

Stugotz

Gattaca and Sunshine are neck and neck for second place! I love both so I'm good with either. Also, Stargate is awesome!

Brien

If you could put Girl Interrupted on a future poll that would be awesome!

Khan1001

Agree, its got a stacked cast as well!

Hal451

Come on Gattaca!! Please hold second place

Angela D. Mitchell

I'd love to see your eventual reactions to Gattaca, AI, and Deep Impact (the 'smart' and actually scientific version of Armageddon). But especially Gattaca. It's an incredible film and a modern classic.

Dakota

I've got some comedy movie recommendations: Oscar, Noises Off, Hudson Hawk, Haunted Honeymoon, Murder By Death, Roxanne.

Sevnthdragon

What if there was poll and instead of picking the winner to watch, the poll just determines the order all of the movies on it get watched. Just a thought… keep doing what you both are doing though

Amar

If you put anything based on space and people policing anything in space it will win. People just can't get enough of it and it's boring!

punterjoe

GATACA is a really cerebral watch that haunts you. Deep Impact is the mirror universe Armageddon. So many great picks to choose from. Not a stinker on the list.

maikeru

I don‘t think Alien or Gattaca or The 5th Element or Avatar or Moon or many other films based on space are boring. It‘s just you don‘t like it, which is okay.

Amar

They are good i am sure but not every single win needs to go to the space adventurers.

windyWin

You both need to put Dark City on a this list at some point. I should say though that there are two different version, I would say the second version (special edition?) is the better one to watch but I'm not entirely sure.

Charles

The theatrical cut straight up spoils parts of the story that work better as fun mysteries in the introduction: genuinely one of those times when the director's cut fixes clear studio interference.

David Dobson

Please add - 2010: The Year We Make Contact into the soup. (more entertaining than 2001)

Roberto Fabbri

Some non-Hollywood movie recommendations: Life is beautiful (Italian, Rom-com/Sad), Memories of Murder (Korean, Murder Case based on true event) and Intouchables (French, Comedy and feel good movie)

Angzarr

+100 Noises Off and Roxanne. To me, Hudson Hawk has one absolutely magical scene, but the rest is awful.

Angzarr

So... can I interest you in the 1980s BBC show Star Cops?

Dakota

Hudson Hawk is a fun mess to watch. I love it for how bonkers it is.

Amar

Oh damn 1980's would win this poll by a landslide lol

Ginger

"Life is beautiful" is an amazing film that I don't think I could ever watch again. Definitely need a feel good movie after that one. ^^

rictus grin

you are absolutely correct, the directors cut is the way to go

Dan Holmes

Too bad Sunshine lost but at least it had a decent showing, hopefully the watch it sometime in the near future :)
