Upgrade! Solid film.

probablyKoi

going through the rest of the Alien franchise as Romulus comes to digital release would be fantastic 🥰

Farbod

Excited for both Upgrade and Stargate.

MarkGauci85

I hope it's the extended edition of Stargate and the directors cut of Alien 3. Best versions of both movies!

Horrible

Alien 3 is underrated. Charles Dance is awesome

W T

I'm just so proud of this community for making Upgrade happen, please take a bow and all that Now Strange Days next? Fiennes is always a selling point, right? Hmmm?

FWPJR.

After watching the ama last night, I bet Simone can’t wait to watch Black Mirror this week lol

Michal Novotny

What a week! Particularly excited about Stargate and what you’ll think of it 🙂

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Upgrading the ol’ modem the week Upgrade is on the ticket? Haha I’ll take it. Great week of selections ahead for everyone 😎

Jasbro

Since they are watching Alien 3 i hope they commit to the series and watch Alien Ressurection as well which imo is better than 3, i am very excited for Logan though.

Twiska Brand

I thought we were getting days of future past before Logan?

Chase Lonnergan

Ooh. Saturday and Sunday are gonna be fun.

Korpse

Super excited to experience their reactions to upgrade 🙌

BubblyRainbows

I've seen "Logan" several times recently, so I'll probably skip that reaction for now, but looking forward to "Stargate" and "Alien 3's Assembly Cut." Good weekend coming up! Anyone know if "Days of Future Past" this week is the Rogue Cut or not?

IR4TE

Banger week, Black Mirror ain't my thing but the rest is awesome.

Philipp Roensch

Very hype week, rewatches and all :D Finally someone kicking my but to see Upgrade, dunno why I missed it.

G P

Black Mirror is pretty meh from here on out

Foodassassin4life

Can we get The Count of Monte Cristo soon?! It was up against some heavy hitters and still came in third

Logan Kerlee

Title error on the final thing, you guys. The movie is titled Alien 3, not Aliens 3. Not trying to give you hell but I'm particular with these movies. :P

Kozmo

Are we getting the Bandersnatch Black Mirror episode? It’s technically special episode after season 4 and it’s chose your own adventure game.

Logan Kerlee

I wasn't a big fan of Romulus, really. I'm definitely not one for Alien 3, either though. Alien is the best, then Aliens and after that it just goes downhill. Well, after typing that out it's really downhill from Alien, then. Never once in my life thought of it in that way. :) Thanks!

Logan Kerlee

Sorta bummed about that, yeah. Rogue Cut's superior.

Logan Kerlee

I'm not a huge fan of Resurrection but yeah, it's action is better than what's in Alien 3.

Logan Kerlee

You and me both! I know that I shouldn't expect a reaction to the tv series but I won't lie - there's a bit of me that would love to dive back into that universe for a couple months.

FranciscoGios

Finally we are going back to Aliens, I've have study the Alien & Predator Universe so beware your surroundings it might get you. But for me Aliens 3 is the weakest one.

Michal Novotny

I would love it if they did the show, I mean it’s a huge commitment but so is Star Trek. So never say never, I guess 🙂

Erik D

Yeah, 3 is only now remembered fondly due to the subsequent movies being so much worse.

IR4TE

Yeah it's the same for me I don't care for anyone in Black Mirror, I started watching it because it's so bleak, I usually like that. But overall rating everything I saw from that series it was a solid 'meh'

JuliusKuegel

Does this mean we're getting an Alien: Resurrection Reaction at some point? Cause hell yeah.

Itbewhatitbe

wow. really wasnt an exaggeration when they said "no matter what cut we do, someone will complain". theres actually someone who is disappointed with the better version of a movie lmao.

blerbaberpaterb

lmao wow thats some next level petty there Odd Thomas. so childish

DonkyDave

Great to see you guys are returning to the Aliens series! I really hope you use this as an opportunity to finish and watch Alien Ressurection, Promethus and Covenant ahead of the release of Alien Romulus on stream

dudewheresmycar

Having seen Romulus, I agree with other commenters that the entire series should now be watched, from Resurrection, Prometheus, to Covenant. The context those movies provide is necessary. Ignore the Aliens vs Predator movies.

Matthew Blackwood

The really interesting thing about the series is how different they all are. Just don’t go into any future film expecting Alien or Aliens. Just have fun with what each film is trying to do.

Matthew Blackwood

But correct, NOT the AvP nonsense. (But still watch Predators, it’s a really fun sequel!)

Spawncalibur

Doesn't matter the version of Alien 3. The fact your both even watching it is greatly appreciated. I just worry about Simone lol. Its a grim movie imo, well it's Fincher. Its worth watching before the real main feast "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of Alien 3" and many other documentaries on this. The history behind the film is what makes it work... somehow. Cringe worthy fun.

LK

Now would be a perfect time to watch a Steve Coogan movie like Hamlet 2 or Tristram Shandy

Jay Davis

Nice to see Alien 3 made the cut. I've never understood the general hate (or dislike, I suppose) for it despite the bait and switch it had and, yes, it's not as good as the first two. On its own, it's still a pretty good movie. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

Chase Schleich

Wow. Alien 3 coming out of left field.

nossieboy

UPGRADE!!! Let's Fudging Go!

Jay Davis

Another one that's, at times, hard to find but Strange Days is a GREAT suggestion!

Cromulentius

I don't think I've ever soured on a film as quickly as I did when I watched Alien 3. Is far as I can recall, the opening credits hadn't even ended before I was like, "Oh, to hell with this."

Blake Gorf

Yesss, I've been dying for someone to react to Hamlet 2.

Blake Gorf

That's sad :(. While some seasons are better than others, I personally enjoyed all of them. I assume no Bandersnatch either? I know it'd be weird logistically but it'd make for an interesting experience and reaction. I'm catching up on reactions so I'm not sure what they'd said on the matter.

Cinebinge

Hi Blake, we want to do Bandersnatch but we haven't figured out how to actually do that yet with the current set up. Chances are it will have to be on hold until one of us visit the other and are in the same room, in order to make the choices together and be able to have the edit afterwards via screen capture.

Mike FromOz

I am glad you're watching the Assembly Cut of Alien 3. It's the best version, even if the origin of the alien form is better in the theatrical version. It brings the series back to what it originally was in 'Alien', a slasher horror film in space. Even extends the psychological element, where the design of the alien, especially the extending mouth-tongue, is very, well let's just say, 'penile' in nature. It was supposed to be a metaphor for the fear of rape, where something would be done against your will, and you end up having to birth something you don't want which was implanted inside you. Instead, the twist is that it's happening to men this time around. Which also plays off well against the setting in Alien 3, that being a prison planet full of rapists, murderers and criminals. In my opinion, the order of Alien films I like from most to least goes 'Alien', 'Alien 3: Assembly Cut', 'Alien: Resurrection', and then 'Aliens'. I know this makes me a heretic, but 'Aliens' is my least liked. I don't think James Cameron is very good at writing dialogue, nor characterisation. Most of how Ripley was portrayed came from the setup in the first movie, so that is fine. But everyone else was way too cardboard cutout for me. All the marines were pretty interchangeable, and the lack of time spent with them meant the death of half or more of them at the beginning really didn't have much impact. Hudson falls apart much too easily, Hicks is too cool for school, and the rest just kind of blend together. I get that Cameron really wanted to do a "Vietnam War, but in space", and then was given the opportunity with the follow on to Alien, but it's just too jarring a contrast. Also, it's really superficial when you consider that makes the aliens in the movie the NVA/Viet Cong. What does it mean when one of the Marines gets implanted? That there's a Vietnamese person inside of them trying to get out? Kind of smacks of 'replacement theory' thinking. The movie is saved by Bishop imho, and while Hicks and Newt are ok, ehhhh, the dialogue and thought behind the movie is overall lacklustre for me. I like Alien 3 going back to the roots of one Alien coming for people. Makes it seem a hell of a lot more menacing that swarms of them. Which is why you don't need to invent a 'Queen Alien' for them to battle against, the regular one on its own is more than enough. Especially when you've got guys whose only weapons are things like metal poles, an axe, scissors etc. Brings it back down to a greater fight for survival. Alien: Resurrection, despite all its flaws, has much better characterisation, interactions and dialogue. We stick with a small group, know who they are from how they act at the beginning, and get to follow them through to the end. Even though it has a bunch of derpy bits at the end, I still prefer it to Aliens. Yeah, I'm a heretic. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Theadora

I think that to a certain extent, we got jaded. In the 1980s (and maybe even the 1970s) it was understood that there had to be good actors and a compelling story along with ground-breaking special effects. As we went along, we (audiences) expected more and more of everything. That just can't happen. There *are* compelling stories to be told, but with so much money riding on each movie, Hollywood/major money/backers end up trying to play it safe. There will be backlash and pendulum swings back to intense and/or compelling stories, probably with good actors wanting "juicy" roles who are also willing to take pay cuts, but we need to pay attention to the true independent movie-makers to find them right now. (At least, that's what my understanding of history leads me to believe.)

Dragonhunter

It should be around 2 hours and 25 minutes long I believe

droodly

Googling around seems to say yes? From what I see the special edition is the assembly cut, but they went back and re-recorded some of the audio that was crappy in the earlier assembly cut.

Roger Davies

Star Trek, Stargate & Alien 3. Awesome.

Logan Kerlee

While that's true, Star Trek has a MUCH bigger fan base than Stargate will ever have. It's the safer pick for reaction content. If Simone and George had infinite time and resources I'd like it if they watched the show but I would never replace Star Trek with it.

Justin Leone

I still enjoy Aliens as a top notch action movie, but all your points are reasonable, and I can see why it may have been too much of a departure from the rest of the series for some tastes. Also, was "there's a Vietnamese person inside of them trying to get out" a deliberate reversal of the line from Full Metal Jacket?

Tom austin

Very happy to see alien 3! Do you guys have plans to watch alien resurrection? Not on the same level as the others but way better than everything that came since!

Khan1001

I've come to appreciate Alien 3 over the years, After watching it, G&S, you guys should watch some YouTube videos about the behind the scenes nightmare production of Alien 3, its legendary. Resurrection was bonkers but very interesting and I remember having fun with it, I would watch it again over any of the newer prequel films which were not good at all, I heard Romulus was decent but have not seen it.

Opti_Frog

I prefer Resurrection to Alien 3.

Mike FromOz

Hahahah, I was probably thinking that subconsciously, good catch!

Vince

Probably my favorite Alien with the first one. Another great David Fincher movie.

Vince

Yes I really don't get why.
