Sweet, you guys are killing it

Michal Novotny

I literally watched it 10 minutes ago 😂 Oh well, will watch the YT version and join you next week for the whole episode 🙂

Michael Bourke

Well this was a nice surprise, didn't realise you were going to be watching this. I watched the episode when it first dropped a few days ago going in with no expectations other than that Colin Farrell would be really good as he always is. I actually really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and watching it with you two.

Big Gee

Man this first episode was so good I love the world building with Oz seeing all the other sides of him. Collin is amazing and props to the make up and costume departments they did their thing. Love the writing so far too. And the Sopronos type vibes too are cool.

Onno Smits

I'm not interested in this show. But I hope for you guys that this experiment of releasing weekly reactions on YouTube to a popular show while it's airing works out! Could be a huge thing for the YouTube algorithm. Who knows how that works these days. 🤷‍♂️

Tay Schumaker

A bold new venture into current shows

Reid Mclellan

Was not expecting this, I am so happy though 💀😫

Zach McBride

they have stated Batman will not be in the show. though he will be mentioned

Monica Alarcon

weeeell... I had no intentions of watching this series... I hated the latest Batman movie but I've been hearing good things and maybe watching with you will make it fun, so I'll give it a try...

mojo shivers

Don’t get me wrong, Colin Farrell is doing great work as Oswald. His line delivery is great and he really disappears into the role. But, man, Cristin Milioti is stealing every scene she’s in. She’s somehow playing someone who is off her rocker and yet 3-4 moves ahead at the same time. I can’t imagine to play that any better.

micah

YAY!!!!!!

JokerDanny

If you liked this show you should react to GOTHAM, fantastic 5 season show about Bruce Wayne before he became Batman, and it also creates origins of many Batman villains

RabidMango

It's his voice I can't recognize. I'm a really big fan and there are parts where I can't hear him in there. It's not just the accent it's everything.

Philipp Roensch

Oh a fresh series? Guess I wanted to see it anyway, just need another subscription ^^.

REDR58

Huh. I had zero interest in watching this but if if you guys are going to check it out, then it sounds good to me.

Foggy

any plans for hotd season 2?

John

Thanks for the extra content, it's always a pleasant surprise

2026-09-09 01:00 Penguin was drawn with a Purple top hat for a long time. Burgess Meredith aka Mickey from Rocky played Penguin the classic 60s tv show.

Anamondaris

Matt Reeves has said the events and characters of this show will lead directly into The Batman 2

Brandon

I love Cristin Milioti so much. I didn't watch any marketing material for this so I had no idea she was in this and who she was playing. Damn this was a great premiere, too.

JokerDanny

This show isn't replacing the movies, this show is to bridge the gap between Th Batman and The Batman 2

mky

The black & white movie on the TV is "Gilda" (1946), a great film noir starring Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford.

2026-09-09 01:00 Clancy Brown (Salvatore Maroni) is the voice of “Surtur” in “Thor: Ragnarok” and plays 2 different characters in several episodes of “Daredevil,” “The Punisher” and “What If…?” He is also the main, evil prison guard in “The Shawshank Redemption.”

I've been patiently waiting for them to do it. I thought maybe they were waiting for the glut of HOTD reactions to fade, but I'm not so sure. I hope they weren't scared off by some people hating on the end of the season. The last half of the season was weaker than the first but still an awesome show. What say you George and Simone? Can we hope for Dragons soon?

Young Blood Priest

He’s also the voice of Lex Luther on Superman the animated series. He was the villain in The Highlander too.

Simon Pegged Me

Batman is my favorite superhero, the comic book character mostly, the movies, not so much. But, I liked The Batman's version of the Penguin. Here's something I'll throw out there, a sort of interpretive virus to infect your thoughts on Sofia. She's the Joker. I know in the comics, she's an entirely different member of the Batman's rogues' gallery, and they may go that way in this series, too. But... The Joker started out as one villain and became another. The Penguin series could ostensibly be about the rise of Oswald Cobb, but could also be about the slow mental decline of Sofia into clown princess of crime, and the star of Batman 2. What am I basing this on? Hahahaha, this is the Internet. I don't need a basis for crazy shit. But as I was rewatching this with you, Sophia's smile and the rest of Cristin Miloti's performance got me thinking. What if the finale is a reckoning, Sofia upon Oz for the death of Alberto, and the Batman steps in at the last moment to save him, causing Sofia's accidental death and Joker's birth? I'd watch a Batman 2 about those three.

Shonnicus

What I am enjoyed about The Penguin was you can enjoy it as a comic book or I'm enjoying as a mobster show, aka The Sopranos

darkmoobs

What a wonderful surprise!

darkmoobs

The only thing butting up against that theory is we’ve ostensibly already seen the Joker in the first movie. Would be a cool twist though.

Philipp Roensch

Alright, good start to the series. Keeping Oswald as a guy pushed to the sidelines, makes is rise and growing confidence quite charming. Adopting a sidekick already is bold, but I hope there are more. Sadly have some playback issues, stupid streaming service on my end has the wrong framerate, hoping to fix that.

Simon Pegged Me

I never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Just kidding. I'd forgotten about that. In my memory, we only heard the Joker's voice coming from the next cell, only saw his profile in shadow. I rewatched the scene; they showed much more than that. But it's nothing they couldn't work around if they were committed to the idea. She becomes disfigured in the comics when she's captured. Who knows what state her body was in when her mind was getting repaired in Arkham? A little plastic surgery after her release, and ... Of course, it's just easier to admit I forgot how much of the Joker's face they showed in the movie and that you're right. Proved wrong, a better man would delete his original post.

Drew

Did you happen to notice BURGESS is the name of the jewelry store that Oz lives next to?

Noel Valdez

Im really glad this is after the movie! Whenever they do these movie tie in shows I dont feel as compelled to check them out when they're prequels. This is cool though, its alot of fun following the bad guys one of the reasons I love BB and Better Call Saul.

Redrum Sacrament

Sofia Falcone has become my favorite along with Victor. Victor is like the DC Miles Morales. Both African American Latinos. Rhenzy Feliz is another actor who has been in both Marvel and DC. He was on a Marvel show called Runaways.

TokyoLopez

If Batman were to make an appearance it would be awesome to show it only in his form of silhouettes, etc. and from the perspective of the criminal only, to really put you in the perspective of how scared they are of Batman it would have to be really creative shots but the pay off would be huge if done right, iconic shots

Logan Kerlee

Did ya'll ever watch Batman cartoons or no? lmao, it's sounding like you're both COMPLETELY in the dark. :P Nothing WRONG with that - no, I'd just be surprised. :) It's awesome how they're introducing the show to us! I have zero expectations with this show, so I'm sure that I'll enjoy these first episodes at least. :) No idea on the rest of the series though. Well god damn! xD That right there declares what type of show this'll be! lmao, whoa! Count me in on liking this show. His portrayal of Penguin is so damn great! He's frightening and intimidating. That's what I'm picturing, George, yeah. Think he'll be some type of follower. Either that or he'll make some idiot mistake and wind up getting himself killed off. Purple isn't Penguin's color as far as I know. I felt it was strange that his car was purple, not a fan of it. lmao, I love this Penguin character! He's great! lmao, glad you think so too George! lol, this is like watching a prison show like Oz - one that I totally recommend you both check out sometime! I don't expect it to ever win a poll, but I'd enjoy watching that. Overall I'd have to say that I really enjoyed watching this premiere episode. I had a lot of fun with it. Do I expect this show to last for a long while? No, I definitely don't - without Batman at least. I'd instead expect this to last a season or two and end with a cliffhanger with Batman.. all while there's a Batman film in production! Is that likely to happen? Nah! Definitely not. That's how I'd most enjoy this show playing out though. :)

I love that detail in the news reels at the start that despite all the Riddler's rambling about corruption and justice, his plan in the movie ultimately hurt the poorest in Gotham and left the rich out in the suburbs unaffected. It speaks to a lot of the hypocrisy of extremists and makes them look misguided (which is probably important in this day and age).

Trevor S Bright

Yeah, this iteration of Riddler was really full of shit. I read some of that tie-in prequel novel and Edward was bullied by the other orphans, so when he made that speech to Batman about how much he and the other kids suffered, I was like "don't act like you care about the other kids Ed". Plus he was OK killing 1 mayor in his own home, but he didn't want to kill the new 1 probably for fear of getting shot by cops. I believe those Riddler extremists were just cannon fodder as well as pawns. So in that regard, this Riddler is just like the other versions, the only person he cares about is himself. Also his sympathetic backstory with no real regard for innocent people he hurts, just revenge on literally everyone around him...kinda reminds me of Killmonger from the MCU.

Trevor S Bright

I think the purple might be a nod to the Burgess Meredith Penguin from the 60s Batman show. His top hat was kinda dark pink/light purple.
