Somehow Simone as Travis Bickle looks like Sly Stallone...

maikeru

full name: John Travis Silvester Bickle-Rambo

Not just a stalker, John Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate then-President Reagan, hoping to impress Jodie Foster. He even imitated Travis's mohawk look and - when he was on trial - played the movie for the jury as part of his defense. The King of Comedy (also directed by Scorsese and starring DeNiro) was the other huge influence on Joker.

TheFood44

The film that showed me the difference between great and favourite- absolute masterclass in filmmaking but in the thirty years since I first saw it I can only think of one occasion where I was like ‘yeah I fancy watching taxi driver’

ShōNuff3K

I did not remember Scorsese acted in this film. Bearded fare that was wondering what a gun would do to a woman's face.

dudewheresmycar

More Scorsese is exactly what this channel needs!

Albert Brookes: Broadcast News 👍🏾, Defending Your Life 👍🏾

John Hinckley was actually recently released from prison. He’s a musician now. Watch King of Comedy asap please.

ShōNuff3K

Do you guys dress up for Halloween reactions? Not the movie, the holiday. Ex. Lord of the Rings theme to watch a horror movie?

Daniel Bjork

In the US gun laws vary by state. He is in New York which is going to have tighter gun regulations than other states, although I’m not sure what the laws were in 1976. Gun laws can also vary based on the type of gun you’re buying, with hand guns having tighter restrictions than shotguns/rifles which cannot be concealed as easily. As a general rule to own a handgun, in a state with standard gun laws, the gun is required to be registered so the shop where it was purchased would have record of the serial number and the person who purchased it, this often times also requires a background check and/or a waiting period of at least several days. You’d also need a state license to carry a firearm. These types of laws tend to be more relaxed in private (individual to individual) gun sales. Most of the tighter laws on handguns started to be enacted after the 1980 Regan assassination attempt, which this movie predates. Certainly in some states virtually no regulation on guns exist, with a few states even allowing open carry without a license at all.

I really hope you'll watch King of Comedy soon as well. You might like it even more.

Hamesque

Can't believe this guy ripped off The Joker.

REDR58

It also varies within a state. New York City currently has restrictive gun laws and you need a license for any firearm. But generally in the state outside of the city, you don’t even need a license to own or operate a shotgun or bolt action rifles, though you do for pistols.

Helly R

Best director cameo ever? It might be.

ShōNuff3K

What would the list be? Hitchcock and Shyamalan come to mind without thinking about it.

ShōNuff3K

1. Alfred Hitchcock 2. Quentin Tarantino 3. Martin Scorsese 4. Peter Jackson 5. M. Night Shyamalan 6. Wes Craven 7. John Landis 8. Stanley Kubrick 9. Spike Lee 10. Edgar Wright

ShōNuff3K

Plus, what qualifies as a cameo and what is a part. Spike Lee had roles in his films.

ShōNuff3K

I think a cameo is in one scene of the movie.

ShōNuff3K

Todd Phillips in The Hangover

Jonathan Howard

Omg all I want is Deadpool and wolverine.

Helly R

There is a pretty widely discussed interpretation that the end after the shootout is a dream. I think it's certainly plausible.

WorkSucksBJsDont

Wow I finally see Simones nipples and they're Robert De Niro's.

If you liked this movie, do watch the GQ interview Scorsese did whereas he talked about the directing of this movie and how he interpreted the feeling of late-night New York. It's so in-depth and personal fr

Stuart Sutcliffe

So in the 20th Century, cabbies infamously didn't drive in Harlem. It's one of several examples of institutionalized racism in New York City, some of which still persist. That's part of why the kids in Harlem attacked Travis' car.

Actuarial Lurker

The guy saying he will kill his cheating wife IS SCORSESE himself doing a cameo role

Dan Holmes

Calm down bro and watch some real Cinema

A Masterpiece even better on repeat viewings :)

Peter Boyle- the half balding cab driver was the Frankenstein monster in Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein

Rob Church

Dying for you guys to do King of Comedy now to complete the whole picture.

Boogie_Down_Professor

You also see him at the door of Palantine headquarters during Betsy's slow-motion introduction (it's cut out in this edit around the four minute mark)

Gun laws vary by US state and even regionally. NYC has always had some of the strictest gun laws in the US regardless of the "2nd Amendment". You need to prove that you are a business person carrying lots of cash/ diamonds/jewelry etc to the bank or be a Private Detective or working security with extensive police background checks to get a a hand gun license in the 5 NYC boros. Upstate NY is very rural with lot of hunting and historically far away from local police dating back to the 1700s so NY State gun laws up in the areas close to Buffalo/Toronto and on the way up towards the border with Montreal are more lax. In most states rifles are assumed to be used for hunting and have different laws- and could even be bought without a license....A person driving across the US with a licensed gun might be allowed to have it on their body open carry while driving in one state and then reach an internal border and need to lock the weapon in a secure box and put it in the trunk of their car and take out the bullets- presumably where they would not be able to shoot at a cop during a traffic stop or risk being arrested for a serious felony charge for illegally transporting their gun

Actuarial Lurker

A crazy fan obsessed with Jodie Foster due to this move shot at and actually hit a sitting US President saying he did it to prove his love for her. Modern medicine in 1981 saved him- if the attack had been 50 years earlier it might have been a fatal wound.....

PDP1472

Errol Flynn played a lot of swashbuckling roles in the '30-40s; many of the pop culture references to Robin Hood come from the '38 film 'Adventures of Robin Hood'. The notches cut in the bullets were an attempt to make primitive 'dum-dum' rounds; which are meant to expand and fragment on impact.

Cromulentius

Not only that, he poached Robert De Niro!

Brent bmc_comix

Let's all agree that instead of Joker... let's all read Batman: Year One instead! A great story that takes influence from Taxi Driver and Dirty Harry but is it's own original, good story!!! :) (BTW, please react to Dirty Harry, it's a Clint Eastwood classic!!!)

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

They made some fun masks of themselves as “South Park” Canadians before their reaction to “Let the Right One In” last year.

Jethro Divine

For spooky season I would like to most humbly demand that we watch The Grudge (2004). Or else, as George said, every time you take out the garbage you'll get bin juice all over the floor. It's a little cheesy but does the job well.

2026-09-09 01:00 It’s hard for me to believe or understand why or how Bickle thinks that taking a date to a porno theater was ever a good idea. Yes, yes, stunted development or whatever his problems may be, it’s still really odd to say the least.

Jeff I.

Yeah, and it's really odd on purpose. It's the first scene in the movie that's intended to make clear to the audience just how "off" mentally and socially Travis really is, and set up for the audience how his further mental health decline didn't come out of nowhere. Before that, we see scenes where he is awkward and oblivious to certain social cues but not aggressive or particularly unlikable. Betsy finds his awkwardness in their first conversations a bit endearing and even intriguing ("I don't think I've ever met anyone quite like you."), but this scene shows her (and the audience) that his awkwardness stems from there being something very off with his thinking/mind. Like Simone's face when Travis starts grabbing Besty roughly by the arm as she walks off to the taxi outside the theater is exactly what Scorsese was going for. It's like okay, this guy isn't just well-meaning-but-socially-awkward, he could get dangerous too.

Dwight Scarn

I think you both should watch DEXTER. It's been in the TOP 10 NIELSEN streaming ratings with 1.48 billion minutes watched this year i believe. Would be good for the channel and also having both of you on the edge of you seat!!!

Aaron Crawford

A newer movie which is great and you guys should watch with Albert Brooks as an antagonist is Drive
