Well now I just kinda want you guys to check out Doc Hollywood, just to see if you think it's as blatantly obvious as many of us do that Cars is just the animated version. (Doc Hollywood is not a "good" movie, per se, but it's certainly charming. Probably because it's Michael J. Fox.)

Martin

CARS is much more mature than i remenbered

jmundt33a

And Julie Warner, and David Ogden Stiers. “Get off the freeway, Ben Stone!” And, while it may not be good, it’s certainly better than this thing.

Jeff K.

And Woody Harrelson. Looking back, there was really quite a bit of charm throughout that cast. And nary a Cable Guy in sight.

jmundt33a

No. The hippie van is George Carlin.

maikeru

Watch Doc Hollywood (1991) and you‘ll see the similarities to this.

Elena

I did not need to think of a semi with a trailer as a car inside another car. thanks for ruining my childhood george lmao

Movie Dan

Great reaction guys 😊such an underrated pixar movie with a great plot stellar voice cast and some hilarious but also moments that hit you in the feels i knew the Mater"My best friend" moment and Lightning helping The King finish his race would get you guys 😂i love Paul Newman as Doc Hudson and the Guido Peet Stop moment will never not be epic 😁

Jeff K.

George talking about the merch: I can confirm, I was pretty much guaranteed to come home with at least one new Cars toy every time I took my son to Target.

Jacob Vallier

Bonnie and Helen Hunt aren’t actually related.

BoredLittleLady

If you want to continue in this universe, “Cars 3” (2017) is the sequel to watch.

ShōNuff3K

Well, I've always said...once you see Pixar's Cars, you probably need to watch Titane. 😉😬

ShōNuff3K

The pace car in NASCAR regulates the speed of the race under caution conditions, ensuring the safety of drivers and track workers while hazards are cleared. It also sets the speed for the field before restarts, helping maintain a controlled and fair lineup for resuming the race.

Jeff K.

Agreed. Unless they're gonna get together and have some adult beverages while watching Cars 2, I wouldn't recommend it. It's just... so bad.

Vince Bowman

Crazy you had never seen this, but I’m glad you got to enjoy a classic with us!

Rob Church

You want them to watch a bad, uninteresting movie so they can compare it to one of the worst pixar movies? Why? Just cuz a movie is slightly related doesn't mean it needs a reaction.

Jeff K.

Did I ever say that I wanted them to actually react to it? Nope, sure didn't.

m0lika1 .

You guys need to watch A Bug's Life!

Chase Lonnergan

Well... Now you don't have to watch the Michael J. Fox movie "Doc Hollywood", but you still should.

Michael

Cars was the one Pixar franchise that inexplicably I had settled on thinking “couldn’t be that good”. Even though I had no good reason for thinking so- maybe it had to do with those Techron commercials. Anyhow, I was wrong.

CT

It's simple: watch all the Pixar movies you haven't already seen. Even the bad ones are good. just my 2¢

Pam Nail

Best double feature ever!

Pam Nail

I've always felt this movie was unfairly maligned, especially by people who can't stop honking about the worldbuilding and "who builds the cars if there's no people???". I do have to giggle that Cars has the exact same plot as Doc Hollywood, a movie from 15 years before starring Michael J. Fox.

Sevnthdragon

“Pretend it’s a seed ok”— a bugs life definitively worth your time

Alex Ch

I would love to see another Paul Newman reaction. I think the most broadly popular choices would either be “The Sting” or “Road to Perdition,” and of course theyre both excellent films.

Rob Church

Whatever you say kiddo. If you wanna walk it back now that's fine by me.

Jeff K.

Kiddo? (I'm 43.) Walk it back? (I literally never said I wanted them to react to it.) What exactly is your problem? Way to just be a condescending dick for no apparent reason.

Happy Hanukkah

1:06 Paul Newman is ... the road, that they should travel! :-)

Jeff K.

Given they just watched Shanghai Noon, which has a very clear Butch and Sundance reference, and now this... yeah, let's get Butch and Sundance and The Sting. Two amazing movies. Lesser-known Paul Newman movie that I'd also recommend: Nobody's Fool, with Paul and Bruce Willis.

Galactic Cannibl

Back for my second View lol, I live and drive on Route 66 in Missouri everyday, and yes a lot of it looks like this! With Rolling Hills and Bluffs and beautiful scenery. These Landscapes are probably more modeled off of Arizona and New Mexico with the desert flat with the large rock formations

Rasmus Larsen

I'd definitely recommend "The Verdict". It's a court/law drama directed by Sidney Lumet who also did "12 Angry men". It's not that level of quality, but it's still banging. Fun fact: Lumet made his first movie (12 Angry Men) in black and white starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb, and made his last movie on digital with Ethan Hawke and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The amount of change in the medium he worked through is insane.

Monica Alarcon

Awwww, I wanted to see George as Tow Mater in the Thumbnail...

WHIPPERSNAPPER

The pace car comes out after NASCAR throws the yellow flag to slow the field down when an unsafe condition exists on the racetrack so the safety crew can come up and clear debris or wrecked race cars. If there is so much to clean up then they will throw a red flag and the pace car brings the field to a stop.

Galactic Cannibl

If it makes you feel any better he's actually in the trailer!

Matt88g

Cars 2 is pretty bad but cars 3 is pretty good and emotional like this one

mky

Yeah, that first massive crash would have certainly brought out a red flag. However..."It's just a show, I should really just relax." 😜

Joshua M Freeman

An explanation for the Pace Car: when there is a wreck during the race, the cars have to slow down while the wreckage is cleared. The Pace Car is there to dictate just how slow they need to go.

Elena

Oh my god I feel so bad for my pea-sized brain 😭. Thanks for the reassurance lol

jmundt33a

I’d advise ignoring the foghorn. Incorrect and rude is an exhausting combination.

Dan Holmes

A Bug's Life ASAP now pls

Christina Doxstader

I've suggested this before but since others are throwing out Paul Newman suggestions I'm going to recommend The Hudsucker Proxy. It's a lesser celebrated/known Coen Brothers movie and Paul plays the antagonist with Tim Robbins and Jennifer Jason Leigh as the main leads. It's worth a watch.

Shibby

Yea that would be such a great movie to react to

Deivide Pereira

ParaNorman, The Secret of Kells, Boxtrolls, Kubo, The Song of The Sea and WolfWalkers. Laika and Cartoon Saloon deserve more audience.

Sean Hennessy

If you want to go down the rabbit hole, check this out. There is a theory out there that all Pixar movies take place in the same universe, and exist over a single timeline. First the toys start gaining self awareness, as do animals. The Cars movies take place after people left earth (as seen in Wall-E) and AI/Robots took over. https://www.pixartheory.com/

Pepijn Schmitz

You should watch Doc Hollywood. Charming little movie with very similar vibes, starring Michael J. Fox.

Pepijn Schmitz

Pixar magic at its best! One of my favourite movies.

HeyHeyJK

The recreation of Radiator Springs in California Adventure theme park - connected to Disneyland - is actually really nice, especially at night with all the neon lit up - and the Lightning McQueen race ride is one of my favorites in the entire park. If you need some Vitamin D during the dark winter months ahead, come on down to Southern California and check it out! Not quite the same as driving through the deserts that inspired the film, but there you go.

Happy Hanukkah

A less worthy Paul Newman movie I'm partial to is Where the Money Is (2000).

Drew Mason

With Kingdom Hearts having disney worlds I always smirk at the thought of Sora being a Car's car.

Jordan Barnes

“Freebird!” is a joke about how there’s always some fuckin guy at a concert who yells out for the band to play Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (what a weird fucking band name to type out but saying it feels so normal). It’s an iconic song, one of the #1 songs on every poll about “What song will you play at your funeral?” at least where I grew up.

Caroline

The red Ferrari at the end asking for the tires is voiced by Michael Schumacher, a famous F1 driver.

Hope For Us Network

The previews for this movie made it look like a heartless cash grab after Pixar had such a high quality expectation. But there was so much heart on top of a somewhat paint by numbers story. It's my least favorite Pixar product but I'm still deeply impressed how well it works and the messages/narratives it provides. It's a real comfort film you could watch any time of year and feel good afterwards

HeyHeyJK

Especially in the deep South, it was annoying. I did actually see one concert in a small venue in Seattle one time where a guy yelled it out and the band played the whole damn song. That was actually kind of fun.

J Lawrence

Contrary to popular belief, nascar does indeed have races on tracks not just in a left turn loop. It is also 2 years older of a sport than formula 1
