I love Tuesdays.

mojo shivers

“Touch” is one of my favorite episodes of the series, along with the Nell-centered episode and the one where the adult children finally gather for the funeral. But Theo is my favorite character because she does have such an interesting power in being able to read people by touch and seems the most affected by being burdened with an ability she can’t explain to others.

Brazilian_Rebel

Y’all should check out a little movie called simple favor

mojo shivers

I agree. I like the ending of course, but those middle episodes are some of the most dramatic and scariest scenes I’ve seen on television. Episode 6 is going to be a fun reaction as is the infamous big scare after that.

If you plan to watch also "The Haunting of Bly Manor", please make sure to watch "The Innocents" (1961) first, because otherwise that movie might be heavily spoiled; the other way around it's less of a problem, as the series adds a lot of stuff that has no basis in the original story or movie anyway.

Shirley and Theo's conversation about Nell's death is one of my favourites in the show. Theo giving her professional advice to her sister about how to approach this topic with her kids. But the final lines of it have always really stuck in my chest. Theo's raw anger at the situation: "Better they ask you than me." "Why?" "Because I'm fսcking angry. Because I don't want to have to tell them that I'm fսcking pissed at Auntie Nell who should have known better, better than most... what this does to a family. She fսcking knew better. And she did it anyway." Those last two lines strike deep. Kate Siegel is stellar in almost everything but this show is some of her best work.

Simon Ham

Oh Simone..Your pusscat was just emoting on you ..so fun and amazing

Late Kate

Yeah as much as I love some of the other series they've reacted to, this is definitely the hardest for me to wait week to week to rewatch...

Śéáń

Same! Not just because I'm worried comments will give things away..! Especially with the run of excellent episodes this show has in its midpoint.

Inkpendude

best thing about this show is that is not about ghost, is about people

The Dark Unknown

Love your reaction to this show so much... side note PLEASE do "scent of a woman" for thanksgiving its such an amazing film Al Pacino won an oscar one of his best films also has Philip Seymour Hoffman in it

Justtired

I wouldn’t say I was yelling at the screen when you were trying to figure out what Theo meant when talking to Shirley’s husband, but I did say it out loud a few times like you could hear me. 🤪

N.A. Vreugdenhil

By the way, Simone, you said "$15 grand isn't enough for a PhD", but $15 grand was actually just the first installment. When Stephen first offers them money, he offers them 8% of his royalties (but royalties are ongoing as sales continue). Presumably, the first deposit would be by far the largest, but I'm sure 8% of Stephen's money from the book would be a very large, if not the entire, portion of the cost for a PhD. After all, they present it as a very famous "household name" novel during the show. Small detail, but thought I'd point it out - this show is crazy well though-out :)

Nat B

Simone, I'm with you. Scaring children on Halloween is a lot of fun! :p

sarCC

Yay! Definitely need this today!

m0lika1 .

There's hidden ghosts in the background when we see the family at Hill house throughout the show!

Nat B

Episodes 5 and 6 in the same video... Can't wait!

Josip Buretić

I just wanted to write the same thing 🤭

mky

Do you think Theo can hear the cat purring? 😜

Josip Buretić

I am from Europe and here it is also on Netflix

silverarrow06

Young Theo is played by McKenna Grace, on of the best and most booked young actresses in Hollywood these days. She's been f.e. in "Young Sheldon", "Gifted", "Designated Survivor", the Ghost Busters legacy movies or "Annabelle 3". Almost everywhere she's been in she left an impression and she's still only 18 years old...🙂

Michael L.

I love how sad this show is.

michael denny

we in the us dont have the white logo must be an international or canadian thing

Estelle’s dada jesse

please tell me i don't have to wait til next week for the next episodes!!!!!

dys

The Netflix US logo animation actually IS against a dark background for this show at least, it must just be Canadian Netflix that has the white logo background.

Jason Dreibeblis

I had complete faith you’d both get what Theo was eluding to eventually lol

Spacecat44

Theo: sees visions of what she touches. Nell: Sees the bent neck lady. Luke: sees every goddam ghost that exists on Earth. I'd probably end up shooting heroin too

dys

Obviously it's going to be next week but I am also VERY excited for the next episodes.

Grimbane42

Kate Siegel who plays Theo named her child Theodora after this character, that has to tell you how much she loves the character. There is definitely a reason she's most peoples favorite character.

BJ Stephens

Theo's definately cool, but kinda overrated IMO. I think her special powers make people overlook her obvious flaws.

Jeff I.

Without spoiling anything, Kate has a roughly 5 minute, almost one-take monologue in Midnight Mass that is really well-acted. Hope they react to MM someday! I think it's Flanagan's best work after Hill House.

Philipp Roensch

Don't worry guys, I'm also slow on the uptake this time around^^, maybe fellow chatters here can help me: How did Steven write the books so accurately when the family is hardly talking to each other? I must have missed something. But this show is great, really impressed how dark it gets and that there is now a possible connection between real crime/trauma with the haunts, that just adds to the suspense.

Jeff I.

I think it's clear they all used to communicate more in the past and have previously talked more openly with Steve about their experiences at Hill House. But it's also noted that Steve has a tendency to take creative liberties (exaggerate/embellish on reality) when writing his books, as he himself put it in the first episode. Theo takes a dig at him for it in episode 3, and it might be why Shirley was so pissed at him about what he wrote in his book. She probably feels like he's taking advantage of his family's real life trauma/suffering to make a lot of money, since his purely fictional works weren't selling well.

Dwight Scarn

When does the youtube version come out?

Noel Valdez

The first two episodes are good but the third episode and forward is what made this one of my favorite shows of all time and also where I got hooked when I first watched it! Also the thing about Mike Flanagan is that is that if you don’t believe in ghost in the supernatural sense you can feel the fear of what they represent in this show which is very real and terrifying.

Garrett Mazzuca

What I love most about this series is that the family isn't just haunted by ghosts in the literal sense. They are haunted by past decisions, family trauma, addiction, ect. Each character is uniquely haunted...absolute masterpiece of television.

djKENTO

George, the netflix logo when you watch it ON NETFLIX isn’t bright white anymore. hasn’t been for years. Just fyi

probablyKoi

describing the rear lights of a car driving away as "red eyes taking hope away into the night" is the most beautiful line I've heard in years

micah

simone fwiw the halloween idea you had sounds fun ive always wanted to try doing that! the videos ive seen of it are clearly not fake lmao

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, I hope Simone has/had a lot of tissues ready. I feel like every episode starting with 5 really brings on a lot of tears.

HeyHeyJK

Right? That will really make for a great video. Those episodes are just amazing.

HeyHeyJK

When you're done with this series, I highly recommend going back to the original 1963 film "The Haunting" based on the same novel, even if you don't do a reaction to it. It's my favorite horror film and you'll see how Flanagan (along with the other writers) took the overall concept and location of the book, and then reworked it keeping many of the same character names, key moments in the plot, but then added in the themes of family trauma and how it plays out over time. It's a masterful adaptation.

Nico Piel

Hey guys! You noticed Theo reading "The Lottery" in Episode 2. "The Haunting of Hill House" was written by the same author, Shirley Jackson! It's a fun easter egg that also fits Theo's character. Also, obviously, one of the siblings' name is Shirley. Eleanor (Nell), Theo and Luke are actual names from the book.

Jonas

Man, it's killing me that these are only once a week. I can't wait for the rest.

rick trevino

so happy ya'll are reacting to this. i watched it when it first came out but now im seeing things i didnt notice the first time and its even better the 2nd watch...1 thing is carla gugino being brightly lit more than any other actor... i know you both will love the rest of the season.

Jobbe Smit

Yeah I admit I screamed Book money! at the screen. But you two are still my favorite idiots on the internet.

Jethro Divine

Did I hear Deathknell? The glorious nostalgia!

Kris Brown

Sherley has dreams, as a child and an adult she talks about the red room.

BoredLittleLady

I’ve seen young Theo in a few projects, she’s an incredible young actress. Most recently she starred in the new “Ghostbusters” movies.

BangDroid

Sheesh I did not expect this show to get to me so much. So close to home with family and addiction.

Bekka NoyB

My fave episode (episode 3) focusing on my fave character! ♥ this show!

Nate

As regards the secret checkbook thing and how quickly you put it together I can tell you most reactors I've seen either don't get there at all or assume Theo and Kevin are having an affair. So. Good jorb!

Milosz Skowronski

Yeah, I only saw one other reactor put it together in the same episode, but other than that everyone only make the connection in the later episodes.

Sara

Wait I paid money and I barely see the video ??
