Longest week of my life waiting for these to drop!

Josip Buretić

Cannot wait to get home and watch this reaction. Episode 5&6 are 🔥🔥🔥

Śéáń

I love Tuesdays (I said this last week but that Tuesday got worse as it went on outside the episodes being posted.) These two are both fan and personal favourite episodes, can't wait to watch.

Smanuelle

I'm not one to spoil things, but I want to warn Simone to not have any liquid next to her when watching next week episodes, especially if it's hot.

mojo shivers

“The Bent-Neck Lady” is one of the standout episodes of the series. Not only do you learn just how tragic Nell’s whole life has been, but you see just how much her short time in the house seems to have doomed her future. And then you get that reveal that hammers home how she really never escaped from Hill House.

Noel Valdez

This is a super loose adaptation of the novel to be fair. Lol

Stugotz

yeah I believe their was also a movie released in the late 90's called "The Haunting" which was based on Hill House, not sure how accurate that was to the novels though.

MoonageDaydream

I was praying you wouldn’t work out the twist before it was shown and I was not disappointed lmao. Both of your faces 😂

Stugotz

Bowler Hat Ghost: I just want my hat back George: YOU EVIL BASTARD!! 😂

Kameron Webb

Yeah I'm at work until 5pm so I gotta wait all damn day!

Deco

Nells story is one of the saddest I have seen on tv, amazing acting

Lachlan Smith

if you haven't noticed the statues change to look a different direction each time they enter exit a room

Dragonhunter

This second episode just reminds me, you guys should really check out Birdman. It also has really long shots and they're edited together so it looks like the whole movie is done in one shot. It's also really good.

ShōNuff3K

All questions will be answered

ShōNuff3K

You were the camera in those long shots. It should have made you feel like you were there.

HeyHeyJK

Ugh, it's gonna be tough waiting until after work to watch these reactions. At least you're watching/posting two at a time!

Stugotz

Maybe I'm forgetting something but it seems the only sibling that's actually seen Nellie's ghost is Steve, he saw her at his apartment and then again in episode 6. The dad saw her too but I wonder why Steven is the only sibling that is able to see her.

Philipp Roensch

Wonderfully dark episodes, I did not call that twist in the neck at all. But they keep us second guessing, whether there is another presence from the house, or the family, or the father making a mistake. Keeps the mystery up very well. If I were to speculate, my bet is on mother or father were possessed, but I think there might also be more than one entity in the house, everyone dying there seems to become part of it. On the argument why to one-shot such scenes, not just tension, but communicating stressful moments and keeping track of the time passed. Nelly's "I was screaming the whole time" hits way harder if you also just experience that whole time. Almost off-topic, I don't know its is also inspired by, but 'Betrayal at House on the Hill' is a great boardgame with many of these classic spook stories :D.

Deco

Two amazing episodes, thanks George+ Simone

Not Six Raccoons in a Trench Coat

One cut at 15:38 min, another at 23:04, one at 46:37 , and lastly at 50:18 min (when the coffin falls over). After that theres a cut every 5-10 seconds as a contrast to the rest of the episode.

Shelby Grego

That they shutdown production for a month just to have the blocking for Ep. 6 worked out before shooting. So the long takes were perfect just crazy

Late Kate

Luke also saw her as a ghost. She told him "go".

Inkpendude

People, they love blood, They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit.

Inkpendude

Crazy how I know everything that is going to happen, yet I'm still tense and still makes me cry

Alexrandom

The only jumpscares that actually make me jump are Simone's screams :')

Jeff I.

Now y'all are seeing what we meant by the earlier comments that this is more of a family drama with some horror influences than the other way around. Looking forward to the rest of the season with y'all!

myinniemademedoit

There’s a 6 min BTS video on YouTube about how they shot and planned episode 6 with the long shots. It’s a very interesting watch and there’s no spoilers for future episodes. I’ll find the link once I’m off work and post it below for anyone interested in watching it.

Śéáń

So on the sleep paralysis thing, and how Nelly's seems like a very extreme form of it. My partner actually gets similar lockups, but on the other side of sleep. When tired, a locked in state can kick in, and it's almost exactly like Victoria Pedretti portrays in the episode, to a scary extent. It's a very unpleasant experience, but I have to assume others have sleep paralysis at a similar level. (We now have it under control, but it took years to find out the treatment for it)

Crystal

meant to mention this earlier, but might as well get it in here, on the most recent episode. if you are interested in death rituals & options for death planning, really recommend "ask a mortician" YouTuber Caitlin Doughty. she is a big advocate of natural burial, water cremation & being turned into fertilizer, which is now legal in most Western states in the US. like Simone, she wants to be eaten by animals, and is working to have that made an option, legally. https://youtube.com/@askamortician?si=QNihjSAxBKPvptUq

Monica Alarcon

I can't wait for episode eight!! For... Reasons...

Śéáń

I'm so happy that Episode 5 went unspoiled for you/un-worked-out until the correct time. It was my primary fear throughout this whole reaction series.

Monica Alarcon

I watch them AT work now. I just can't wait...

Nanners

Two great episodes! I always look forward to watching people react to the E5 reveal. You did not disappoint! There’s a statue in E6 who changes the direction it’s facing when the mom goes into and comes out of one of the rooms. I thought for sure Simone would have caught it. 😂 Really loving how much you’re enjoying the show. Can’t wait for next week! Others may have said this but there’s a good video on YouTube that points out all the background ghosts. Would love to see you react to it when you finish up the series.

Monica Alarcon

I was expecting at any moment George would say "wait... Is SHE the bent-neck lady???" Thankfully he didn't figure it out early.

Śéáń

I was *on edge* that George would clock it during the "no no no" and vending machine scenes

2026-09-05 05:00 First time I'm seeing a reactor not liking the amazing Two Storms episode. Weird take imo.

darkmoobs

I wholeheartedly disagree with this take. But don’t worry, looks like they are starting on the Fast and Furious franchise, so you’ll get your action fix soon. *Edit* I clearly missed the joke in the above comment! My bad. lol

DonkyDave

I don't think I've ever seen Simone scream this loudly

Dragonhunter

It's a quote from birdman😅

mpd

We are helping George to buy his murder house, yet another reason to continue to support this channel

mpd

It was an interesting discussion about the long shots, I wouldn't take it to mean that either one of them didn't like the episode. They were both clearly enjoying it.

Śéáń

Nell's psychiatrist was played by the Luke of that film. He was also Lawrence Jacoby in Twin Peaks, so he's seemingly typecast in a "terrible psychiatrist" role..!

ASMRish

It was clearly implied that the long shots were a distracting gimmick.

Estelle’s dada jesse

It’s not traditional horror, movie horror. It’s more like real life horror. The tragedy and the sadness is the real life horror

nj

the director's commentary for two storms on the dvd is also great - although that may contain spoilers for things to come. but it covers a lot of the technical aspects. there was also a twitter thread mike flanagan did - if i can find it and it doesn't contain spoilers i'll come back with a link.

Shirley Jackson's novel, The Haunting of Hill House, was released in 1959. The first film adaptation was The Haunting (1963) which was very faithful to the novel and is considered on of the greatest horror films of all time. That film was later remade with the same name in 1999 starring Liam Neeson and was largely critically panned for its mistreatment of its source material, although it can be a fun popcorn movie. Mike Flannigan's adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House is very different from the rest, he tells an original story, taking only the setting and character names from the source material.

Jeff I.

ASMRish, your original comment implied not liking the episode as a whole. Simone was just saying that all the long shots took her out of it at times, but it sounded like she enjoyed the episode overall.

ASMRish

I was referring to the long shots commentary. Viewers, including myself, tend to find them immersive, so hearing an opposite take is, like I said, weird to me.

DinChild

Bowler Hat haunting of Luke was a metaphor for his addiction/guilt. It's written in his monologue during that scene...it's always behind him -- waiting for him to relapse.

Thomas Yanez

Normally that is the case for me, but man, George's delayed "now he gets it" and then his subsequent reactions while the reveal played out may have been my favorite reaction to this show yet, where up until now the top 10 (if I rated them) would have all easily been from Episode 8.

Thomas Yanez

Regarding any of the Hills being shown as evil so far, and George's comment on the bowler hat guy... I always thought it was the mom (wearing the hat) following Luke, since that is who was revealed when he finally faced her, not the old guy who just wanted his hat back.

Monica Alarcon

Watch their reaction to Friday the 13th... I had to buy new speakers after that one...

REDR58

It was such a treat to see Russ Tamblyn in this role. I really hope Simone and George get to Twin Peaks!

REDR58

Speaking of Alcatraz, I recommend watching “Escape from Alcatraz” (1979). It has nothing to do with ghosts but it has Clint Eastwood. Great film.

Noel Valdez

That’s what I heard but not having read the book I didn’t want to talk out of my ass. That’s how Mike’s adaptations usually are. They take a lot of the spirit of the thing but they are very much their own original story. He’s latest show The Fall of House of User is very much that.

Cromulentius

There's a quote from the film Crimson Peak that sums up this series perfectly: “It's not a ghost story, but instead a story with ghosts in it." And Flanagan's second series, Bly Manor, picks up that ball and just runs with it in a way that I loved, polarizing as it is.

dennis bay

I think as reactors they notice things like long shots and as these were reaaaly long I think Simone started to think about things like how it's done, when it started and ended (while watching) and I can see how that might distract from the story. I think George appreciated it from a tech standpoint more. They haven't said anything about the transistions yet which are awesome thoughout all the episodes.

REDR58

What disturbed me most about “Two Storms” was how the doorway was not centered in the wall at the end of the hallway between the funeral home and Hill House. :) Seriously though, these were two excellent episodes. The Catholic Church used to forbid people who died by suicide from being buried in Catholic cemeteries. But that has not been part of Canon Law for decades now.

REDR58

I did not find the long shots distracting or in any way a negative, I wasn’t even thinking about except when S&G kept mentioning it. I was certainly aware of it, but it didn’t bother me. Simone, speaking of seeing the actor move into position when the camera swung back, you can definitely see something like that in “The Fellowship of the Ring” when Elijah Wood sits back quickly into frame during the scene in The Prancing Pony when the wraiths are looking for the Hobbits who are in the bed in a different room (it starts at 02:45): https://youtu.be/QySRWRHuftg?si=PaM-p6ROraYeCI86

HeyHeyJK

For as many times as I've seen this series through my own viewing and through reactions, Simone is the first person I've heard with the theory that Nell getting off her meds helped Luke clean up. That makes a lot of sense so I'm going to say Simone is exactly right. Great reactions to both great episodes. More scares and tears to come. Can't wait.

djKENTO

I’m rewatching The Sandman on Netflix and I’m surprised y’all haven’t covered this show. From the concepts, to the characters, to the themes and story… AND THE CAST! THE CAST IS WILD! Every single person who pops up is a “holy shit really?!” kind of casting. It’s right up your alleys.

Deadly Ramon

I like it, too, though not as much as I do the comic book. I wish it had stayed more true to the book, particularly with its DCU references, but a couple of minor plot changes (where certain atrocities were removed) were personally welcomed.

djKENTO

Check out the radio drama with James McAvoy as Dream. It’s more accurate to the comics and I believe has 3 full seasons.

Omg, Jacqueline. I've been getting spam calls and text messages to Jacqueline for months. Every day I have to block more numbers, and report them as spam. Jacqueline, your account has been hacked. Jacqueline, we have a report of a problem with your credit score. Jacqueline, you've been overcharged and are entitled to a significant cashback payment. Now she's haunting me here. Go away, Jacqueline!

Jobbe Smit

End of episode 5, your faces are truly the Duality of Man.

That vending machine hallway jump scare got me better than any has in maybe my entire life. It might be in part because I've had a terrible flu this week, and I'm still a bit of a mess. I often don't jump at all, but that one felt like her body fell on me, and/or through me, and my heart seized. Pretty sure I screamed. Almost went into Cadillac arrest (in the words of a young Nellie).

gfixler

When Nell was flushing her medicines, I said "Ooh, I wonder if Luke is going to go clean now!" Then in the next episode Simone guessed the same thing, and I was like "I already said that, guys!" Then I remembered neither of you can hear me. I forgot, because I've been out of it with the flu this week, and this show is messing up my understanding of reality.

YourBigBut

Someone probably already said this but I couldn't help but compare George's slower realization at the end with Shirley putting it together that Theo is gay...wait for it...wait for it...there it is! lmao

Dragonhunter

The thing about it that got me was that I never would've guessed that it would drop from above.

Michael Nemo

Its an original series based on an original book.

BoredLittleLady

Young Nell is a very cute and talented kid. I first saw the young actress in the movie “M3gan”.

Noel Valdez

I love M3GAN. They should react to that! Lol I thought they would since that movie was huge.

Noel Valdez

It's so apparent on a rewatch that I was getting nervous they were going to guess it beforehand but it shocked them just like it did me for the first time.

Noel Valdez

I didn't even pick that up the first time I watched it. It was a good call on there part! I seen this show three times with this being the forth and I always see something different every time!

Noel Valdez

I know Mrs. Dudley is made to be creepy at first but the scene was not supposed to read as creepy. Lol at least thats what I get from it. Also, sadness in my eyes lives in the same place as fear and horror does so I love love, love it when horror movies tap into sadness cause it feels like right to me. Deep sadness is horror too, just as fear is.

probablyKoi

That's what messed me up with Hereditary, the worst part of the movie for me that I cannot get myself to rewatch is when (spoilers) the mum finds out the girl is dead and scream-cries in grief. Reminds me way too much of my own mum's crying after my dad died - that makes me so much more uncomfortable than the horror scenes.

probablyKoi

During the vending machine scene of episode 5 I tensed up so hard I cramped my arm

Noel Valdez

Those screams were horrifying in the movie, sorry you went through that brother. Yeah I definitely believe that horror and sadness are within the same family. Which is why Hereditary is such a scary movie.

Milosz Skowronski

Episode 5: One of the best TV show episodes in terms of writing and acting. Episode 6: One of the best TV show episodes in terms of directing and cinematography. Flanagan really pulled all the stops for those two episodes.

Anamondaris

This is peak reaction! Simone all drugged up on cough medicine and her just breaking when the Nelly as bent neck lady reveal is my new favorite.
