Yaaaay! you guys are the best! OMG that ending, I'm still pissed but Oz is Evil, the show kept reminding us of that! I wanted to see The Batman show up but I'll take the bat symbol I guess, what a great show though, Colin Farrell 100% needs to win an Emmy for best actor 2025! Holy Cow, what a performance! Just incredible.

Not only was this a superb season finale, but it continued the trend of The Penguin putting together solidly outstanding episode after episode. There was no letdown, no lull. Every episode grabbed you by the throat and didn’t let you off easily. Both Farrell and Milioti had great scenes in this, especially the confrontation between Francis, Oz, and Sofia at the start of the episode. Deirdre O’Connell just as much praise for that scene. That ending though cemented its brilliance.

Cartoons ReAct

You might want to check the movies Palm Springs,It Had to be You and the shows A to Z, Made for Love and The Resort which all of them had Cristin Milioti

You guys should check out the Sopranos.

You two seemed surprised that Selena Kyle is Sofia's half sister. A major plot line of 2022's The Batman was that Selena was Falcone's daughter.

Cartoons ReAct

they are surprised that Selina contacted her and was mentioned

i mean keep in mind that they watch like 3 movies plus anywhere from 4 to 6 episodes of tv show per week, every week all year around. frankly i dont know why youre surprised they forget one minor plot point of 1 movie they watched 2 years ago, one time.

I think the plan is for now to lead into The Batman 2 so all the developments here will form the basis of Batman vs. Penguin there and possible versus The Hangman too. And then after that, a new show focused on the big villain for the third film.

This is how you make a villain. No redeemable qualities. Too often it seems like shows/movies try to make villains into the heroes and forget to just leave evil as evil. Penguin: chokes to death the kid who has saved his life numerous times, left his brothers to drown to death and has lied about it for years, wouldn't even admit to it while his mom is getting her finger cut off, ignores his promise to his mom and leavers her alive in a vegetative state. Hell, even his main "code" of fighting for the little man against the elites is something his spewing while at the same time trying to get in with the city council and mayor. This is someone you really want to see Batman beat the shit out of and it's fantastic the job they did with Penguin to make you feel that. In response to previous videos where ya'll have asked who on this show are comic characters, this is what I have based on comicvine: Penguin first appeared in Detective Comics #58 "One of the Most Perfect Frame-Ups" in 1941 and has been in 2,122 issues. Sofia Falcone first appeared in Batman: The Long Halloween #6 "St. Patrick's Day" in 1997 and has been in 41 issues. Salvatore Maroni first appeared in Detective Comics #66 "The Crimes of Two-Face" in 1942 and has been in 100 issues. Alberto Maroni/Johnny Viti/Carla Viti/and Milos Grapa all first appeared in Batman: The Long Halloween #1 "Crime" in 1996, with Alberto being in 42 overall issues/Johnny in 18/Carla in 14 and Milos in 9. Carmine Falcone first appeared in Batman #405 "War is Declared" in 1987 and has been in 122 issues. Bruno Tess (one of Penguin's henchmen) first appeared in Batman #627 "As the Crow Flies, Part Two: Partners in Crime" and has been in 2 issues. Squid first appeared in Batman #497 "Bad Night in Baja; Barbara Gordon...Murderess!" in 1987 and has been in 28 issues. Magpie first appeared in Batman #401 "A Bird in the Hand..." in 1986 and has been in 116 issues. Vasily Kosov (the leader of the Russian mob) was Detective Comics #742 "The Honored Dead" in 2000 and has been in 6 issues. Able Crown (the black gang leader) was Detective Comics #743 "Evolution: (Part One): Whispers in the Dark" in 2000 and has been in 7 issues. Councilman Sebastian Hady was Batman #693 "Life After Death, Part 2: Charades" in 2010 and has been in 93 issues. Rex Calabrese was in Batman Eternal #4 "Injustice for All" in 2014 and has been in 30 issues. Detective Marcus Wise (the dopehead cop) debuted in Robin #170 "The Fix" in 2008 and has been in 16 issues. Chief Mackenzie Bock (the cop with the really high voice) was Robin #13 "Wings Over Gotham" in 1995 and has been in 107 issues.

As an aside, every time I see François Chau (Zhao), I’m expecting him to talk about the Dharma Initiative.

Grand Moff Slackin'

In the movie The Batman it was established that Selina Kyle was Sofia Falcone’s father’s, brother’s, nephew’s, cousin’s former roommate. Surprised you missed that.

The decorative curtains in the courtroom where Os met with the councilman were arranged to leave the outline of owls on the wall behind them. 😭🤯

Check out LM reactions if you want to see a Sopranos reaction with lengthy discussions about it. They are just about to start season 3. I've been waiting awhile for one of my favorite reactors who go in depth to cover the Sopranos, and LM is nailing it so far. I'm pretty confident Cinebinge will get to it sooner than later judging by the shows they watch.

It is a shame this is only a TV Mini Series with no plans for a Season 2, but this will give more context to The Batman: Part II, and also shows the potential for further stories within this iteration of the Batman mythos. Some healthy competition for whatever James Gunn is doing with his DC universe.

Jacob

I think the Penguin taking the cash from Vics wallet is simply just him just making it seem like a mugging that resulted in murder. The smart, cold blooded thing for a villain like Oz to do in that situation. Competent people being competent.

A far as a Season 2, there are no public announcements of it happening, but it’s been “discussed”: https://comicbookmovie.com/batman/the-batman/the-penguin-matt-reeves-talks-scrapped-batman-cameo-and-confirms-season-2-has-been-discussed-a214394 If and when it happens, don’t expect it anytime soon. That said, the series did well in the ratings, particularly the finale: https://www.thewrap.com/the-penguin-finale-ratings-viewership-hbo-max/ ‘The Penguin’ Finale Gathers 2.1 Million Viewers, 50% Increase From Premiere “The Batman” spinoff series is now the third most-watched current HBO show globally after “House of the Dragon” and “The Last of Us” Anyway, if this comic-book based series sticks to medical reality, Penguin’s mother will have a challenging time with any possible recovery. Having the stoke only compounded her health problems and Lewey Body Dementia and the stroke may possibly have been caused by LBD. https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/lewy-body-dementia/what-lewy-body-dementia-causes-symptoms-and-treatments

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Think about it this way: He promised his mom he would kill her if she was in a state like she is now. All season long he's been telling Vic they were going to the top. I've been on team Sophia ever since we saw what she survived in Arkham, but I had no idea the depths of Oz's selfishness. Kill's Vic cause he needs to "clean up" his image, and keeps his Mom alive even though he knows it's torture for her. So far the villains in the Matt Reeves Batman Universe are on a whole other level and I'm all in and here for it! At this rate though, the Joker is going to be fucking terrifying.

Loved the show/reactions from you both but wanna just drop a kudos to George for keeping the edits coming like a madman lately. Hugely appreciative of the work you both put in, legends

I wasn't too upset by the placement of Vic's death scene. It seemed appropriate. The previous scene with Oz crying over his mother's non-responsive body and Vic placing a comforting hand on his shoulder set it up. While the other mob seconds were out killing their bosses, Vic was by Oz's side, loving and supporting the boss who'd become his mentor and older brother and justifying to Oz why Vic had to die. Vic was family. Family makes you vulnerable. Oz was weakest when Sofia had his mother. Nothing hurt Oz more than hearing his mother say she always hated him, hearing her call him a monster. He couldn't have another person in his life that could make him that vulnerable, that could hurt him as much as mother did in that moment. Imagine Vic discovering that Oz killed his brothers or Vic discovering Francis Cobb hated Oz. That could turn Vic against him and drive him to be a murderous second. That Vic could be a threat. I also think Oz saw Vic as a competitor for Francis's love. In a previous episode, Oz saw Vic join Francis in one of her hallucinations—pretending to be one of his brothers, I think—and Oz told him not to do that. It's a minor thing, but I don't think Oz did that because it was the better approach for treating her mental health. I think he did it because he didn't want Vic resurrecting one of his previous competitors and becoming a surrogate for him in Francis's eyes. Admittedly, that might be a stretch. And I agree with patron Jacob Morris, who posted that Oz took the money from Vic's wallet to make his death look like a mugging. In the early days of his reign, he doesn't want his army of seconds to think he killed his. A mugging of some unidentified kid, though—Oz tossed his driver's license (no symbolism there)—won't be reported. The police aren't gong to bother with the another dead kid in Crown Point. Instead of a mob hit, they'll see it as another John Doe case. In essence, it'll be like Vic just disappeared. Finally, the Francis and Eve-Francis dynamic reminded me of The Portrait of Dorian Gray. Francis is the painting in the attic marred by the sins of Francis's monstrous life, and Eve is living Francis as beautiful and pure as she was on the day she embraced the evil in her son. Loved this series and your reactions, but I don't want a second season. I'll be satisfied by a really good Batman2.

I find it so hard to empathize with Penguin... from ep.1 to the last episode... how could the underlings from the other gangs trust Penguin's word over their leaders? It's beyond me. At least Walter White had principles and lines he would not cross, for family. Penguin just was never a character I could root for... My only critique of the show would be that as a character, Penguin is very two dimensional. He is just a stereotypical bad guy and you could always expect him to do bad things. I liked the series, I hated Penguin's character, but Ioved Colin's acting.

Redrum Ritual

Simone called it. Way to go Scary cat Simone. Probably a lot of people didn't see that till the final episode. I'm happy I watched this before watch along. it's getting harder and harder to be unpredictable with fans already guessing correctly what is going to happen. I didn't see Sofia getting arrested until it happened and Victor getting murdered till Oz went for his neck. Some what of a spoiler when the reactor is already saying what they think and then it actually happens. Colin Farrell shouldn't have said "you're going to hate him in the end" because your brain starts thinking what is he goin to do and again some what of a spoiler. Not sure if I said it on here, but what if they do a Catwoman mini series next before The Batman sequel. I see why we don't see Batman in the show. I feel they are keeping things separate from what the movie will reveal. Staying focused on the story of the tv show and later shift focus to the movie.

Philipp Roensch

Yeah, The Penguin is a freaking monster, alright^^. A very satisfying tie up, makes me excited for more in The Batman 2, but very nice how well this could stand on its own.

I seem to be stuck watching Palm Springs over and over again. ;)

Cartoons ReAct

I don't know how many times I watched it once it came out...no other time loop movie/show caused this besides Groundhog Day

Ste Rawlings

Yeah you should absolutely watch Palm Springs, she's significantly better in that.

Ste Rawlings

It's supposed to feel like emotional whiplash.

I would highly recommend you watch Peaky Blinders. Im sure you both would absolutely love that masterpiece of a show which stars Cillian Murphy.
