PIG

I always wanted to watch this. Might just watch it along with Cinebinge for the first time.

Jeff K.

It's a fantastic show. Highly recommend.

Rob Q

Will there be a YT edit for Shogun?

Cinebinge

eventually. tv shows have a much longer queue due to the time required to edit entire seasons.

Maiki

I wasn't sure if it was my cup of tea, but now I'm hooked, so definitely recommend watching.

Nemo

Will ATLA be on youtube eventually? Not a priority of course, just wondering.

PIG

Will do. Thanks guys!

Rob Q

Great! Thanks

JediLounger

Watching this show creates an unending, irresistible desire to play Ghost of Tsushima in me. While I love that game, I have beaten it twice. I don't really have time to play right now haha. Looking forward to that sequel though.

Cinebinge

hi Nemo, ATLA is a lot trickier, we no longer have any of the raw footage so the editing would have to be done via the already put-together Patreon version, as well as finding the correct version of the episodes again so it syncs properly. Lastly, with the entirety of S1 missing altogether, it will result in an incomplete product regardless. So its something we do want to do, but the sheer amount of effort required is keeping it at the perpetual back burner for now.

Liam Nissan

This is Sho-Gunna Be Good!..

Opti_Frog

Fuji-sama and the guns is my favourite scene of 2024. ❤

Sergio Meira

From this show, I will forever retain "casual buggery" and "the moment of the clouds and the rain."

Maiki

Hiroyuki Sanada (Toranaga), Anna Sawai (Mariko) and Tadanobu Asano (Yabushige/boiler guy) all won a Globe. Also best Drama Series.

Inkpendude

Third episode is so dark, can't see anything lol

Jeff K.

And Toranaga and Mariko both won the Emmy, as well.

Jeff K.

I am so glad that Simone explained what the hell happened 20 minutes in. I was watching and so curious.

Jeff K

That’s funny, this show is what got me to finally play that game. I just needed more feudal Japan in my life. Now I just need Ubisoft to stop delaying AC Shadows so I can get another fix. EDIT: Hey, and George brought up Yasuke, who is one of the two playable characters in Shadows!

Sergio Meira

Yabushige looks so nice when he's smiling at the cannons that can shoot precision shots, doesn't he?

Ste Rawlings

Very clever of Toranaga and a window into how he is always scheming to tire out Blackthorne before asking him for a race.

Sergio Meira

George: "Where's Toranaga?" They said it in the beginning of Episode 4. He went to Edō (the name Tōkyō had in those days) to take care of "important business." Probably preparing his alliances network for the coming conflict, trying to get the Christian Lords against Ishidō, etc.

Jeffrey Conway

Having to constantly re-sink the video is making this unwatchable for me.

Jeromy M

I found the 4k, of the largest file size on PB, is perfectly in sync with this reaction. It was 70.5GB for the season if that helps your search in the seven seas.

Philipp Roensch

This cannonball is rolling alright^^. Toranaga probably went to Ido there, should be safer for him. I think Yabushige's son contributed to the rash actions of the other son, that much he insinuated. While the women still get dealt a shit hand, having to carry on their husbands/family mission. I find the connection Lady Mariko found with Blackthorne, was done quite tastefully, we don't know her full story yet, but looks like she also does not want to live in a cage. Also getting more comfortable with the heave vignetted look by now, it is a closer story, often even side characters carry importance, or at least we can't know who becomes important when since all are on such equal presentation.

Brandon

Constant? I pause the video for 2 steamboats every time there's a commercial break and all is well.

Jeff K.

With regard to awards: a few have been mentioned already, but to sum it up... how many awards has Shogun won? Basically all of them. It set a record for most Emmys in a single season with 18 wins, and won all four Golden Globes for which it was nominated.

Bill Campbell

The best scene IMO to display how clever Toranaga is.

Ste Rawlings

We do not have earthquakes in the UK. We also don't have deadly animals or extreme weather events. It makes for a great false sense of security.

Mastervodo

I regret I can only heart your post once.

Mastervodo

They give Blackthorne the best lines. "Pardon me. And go fuck yourself, you sniveling little shit rag." "Tell this milk-dribbling fuck smear: I am ready to go". "You, Sir, Are A Silly Little Man! And Your Hair Looks Like The Tail Of A Pony!" His exchange with Rodriquez back and forth while sailing in Episode 3 was also hilarious. I am curious how George is thinking Kiku is an assassin. She is simply the best courtesan in all Japan! Also, my favorite character in the series.

Olli Oja

The Cat Purring at the end was perfect. :D

Mastervodo

Here I am, watching Simone and George watch Shogun, playing a video game on another monitor, and a couple open web pages on a 3rd monitor.... and I am hearing this low vibrating sound. I mute my video game. Nope. Still there. Close out of the extra web pages. Nope. Still going. And then I see THE FURBABY ON SIMONE'S LAP OMG SQUEEEEEE!

RedCrusade

Love the reactions so far! Is it just me, or is the episode streaming in the US, specifically Disney+, running a bit slower than George and Simone's version?

RedCrusade

Think I figured it out, it's that when a commercial would normally happen, there's a pause on Disney+ but no pause in their stream

Jeff K.

Yeah, there's like a full 2-3 second pause on the commercial breaks on Disney/Hulu, unfortunately. But hey, it's only three or four times per episode so it hasn't been too bad. Just gotta be quick on the trigger when those breaks pop up (which I always forget to be on the lookout for... haha).

Jeff K.

I haven't done a full rewatch since my original viewing last spring. I had forgotten just how damn funny a lot of his dialogue is. Cosmo Jarvis feels like the most overlooked part of the show, somehow, despite being ostensibly the lead. (Also, and unrelated: I could totally see him as Wolverine in the future.)

Bookwormy

Another great reaction

Mastervodo

Too tall. Besides... we need... The Cavillrine!

Hamesque

Find a girl that looks at you the way Simone looks at that spider.

Bookwormy

The dinner scene is so awesome. Fuji is best girl.

REDR58

Haven’t watched the video yet but after George asked about it for the first 2 reactions I was also curious about what people in Japan think of the series and I found one channel of a Japanese man who was educated in the US and speaks English. He’s reacted to all 10 episodes but of course I have only watched the first 2 of those. I don’t know anything else about this guy but so far he seems generally positive about the series with just a few minor criticisms. He says the language is well done overall and also talks about some of the real historical figures during each video in passing so there is some possible spoilers there. Anyway, here is the playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqq-9fSy2xTzbC0h1ulDX-WbQiKhuSpML&si=jqtlabQ7SSZLBhae There may be others but it’s just the first I found.

Wrencher86

I feel like a YT edit for this would be... sparse. You already pointed out that it's difficult to react and read the subtitles. And I like to think that you're finding the show so engrossing that you're just enjoying it more than worrying about making "content", as the kids say. You guys aren't saying much (I would like to stress that this is not a criticism, I'm really enjoying the excuse for a re-watch and the commentary and conversations after the episodes you do provide are enjoyable), so editing this down without getting into copyright conflict and still maintaining the narrative thread of the show seems tricky.

Wrencher86

Not knowing how far into the show you are and doing my best to avoid spoilers, I will simply say that Fuji-sama's arc is really great and I really like what they do with the character.

dys

Let's have Henry Cavill be the new Wolverine and have Cosmo Jarvis be the new Geralt!

dys

From what I read you do have SOME earthquakes, just very rare and very small. Seems similar to the eastern US in that regard, in my 30-something years living here I've been through exactly 2 earthquakes that were at all noticeable, and both of those were 4-pointers that just shook the room a little bit. Mariko's "baby earthquake" in this episode was probably a 5-pointer at least, so the idea that that is a regular occurrence that can be much worse has to be terrifying to Blackthorne.

Boba Fettuccine

I'm loving these reactions! George, I can just imagine a YT edit of an "Ichi the Killer" reaction. Instead of footage from the movie you'll just have a photo of YouTube's rules on violence and gore the entire time and Simone's "OMG" counter will go into the hundreds.

DonkyDave

This was perfectly in sync with the copy on Piratebay

zak

If you have Disney+ and a vpn, the uk version is in sync

Grumblefunk

I'll watch this with you in a month when the season is done here, never seen it but it's easier for me to binge subtitled shows, gotta get in the headspace of reading a tv show for 10 hours, if that makes any sense lol

Jobbe Smit

The cannon scene is so incredibly gory, the sheer shock on their faces was great.

BangDroid

PSA: Be careful of Google search suggestions when you type anything into the search bar. I typed something and got a massive spoiler and now I am rather ticked off!

Khan1001

The sex scene makes sense as they have been living together for a while (several weeks I'm guessing) & clearly falling for each other, also, sex/pillowing is not a big deal and good for health as Mariko says earlier, however, next week!!.............OMG, cant wait to see your faces when!!!....................

SpankTheMonk

I think Kashigi is ambitious, a darkly curious person as we know, but is also understanding of parts of the feudal system. And a bit laze-faire. Like is said in the episode everyone plays the game of shogun if the they want to or not. Also I believe they are kneeling in those boxes, ow. Ah the show not showing the husband’s death. awesome scene of respect on the pier but for sure setting up a future conflict. Good call by whoever said Oliver Reed for John Blackthrone actor. Which George saw again with a second watch of Gladiator with his dad. Good call that the boiler man was going to be bailed out by his nephew. I honestly think the nephew may have plans of his own too, him smiling over his uncle’s shoulder was well done. Speaking of which I love the Quick Look’s when the actors are turned away. Especially Toda.

2026-09-05 05:00 The Spider halftime show was great. Spiders in your home are your Samurai’s, protecting you from the bad bugs.

SpankTheMonk

Yeah it’s a bit of slight annoyance. Whatever version they are watching is slightly faster than what I get from my major streamer.

SpankTheMonk

I hope those adorable and deadly Scottish felines are able to survive. Can keep at least one native terrestrial predator, even if it is so adorable. Also you have deadly danger noodles weasels who are also super adorable and deadly to tiny things. I am starting to see a theme here.

SpankTheMonk

Yeah same here, I don’t remember any nod to her being an assassin in waiting. But they mentioned the one assassin lady was part of some cult, maybe that was hinted at with this courtesan?

Hamesque

Spider and Samurai are actually synonyms in Japanese. Fact checking this is culturally insensitive.

Anthony

Being from England I can tell you, yes we don't have earthquakes. We don't have natural disasters of any kind except flooding

Poddington

We do have Earthquakes, but they at most feel like if a car drives by. We also get Tornados that I kid you not once made an empty packet of crisp flutter about. Though actually there have been some tornados that damaged property and there can often be water spouts in the English Channel. That's about it though. Even our most dangerous wild creature is a badger (Yes I know we have the Adder, Wolves and Boars it's a joke).

dys

Probably a lot like what we get in the northeastern US, like a single 4-pointer earthquake less than once a decade. To be fair that did a bit more than flutter a packet of crisps (we call them chips over here, I know what you call chips we call fries and what you call crisps we call chips) though even in the northeastern US we have had some tornadoes that caused a lot of damage in recent years, climate change has fucked that for all of us.

Brandon Meng

i thought there was a grasshopper in my room before realizing it was her cat purring lol
