I was 15 and took acid with my friend when his mom took us to see this in theatre and we had to sit in front row because it was packed... i can still taste watching that movie, life changer.

I’m not sure if it’s a popular opinion, but I think Toy Story 3 is where the story should properly end. TS 4 is fine, but just fine. TS 3 was the perfect ending the series needed.

Before that, they should watch Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven (the original ‘60s one, not the remake), and then Bug’s Life, since that film is essentially the same story. (I’m a bit ashamed to admit I haven’t seen Seven Samurai, but Magnificent Seven is one of the best Westerns ever, and you’re right, Bug’s Life is highly under-appreciated.)

I don't know about Lightyear as I haven't seen it, but all of the Toy Story movies are great. Yes, even #4. It's not quite as jaw-droppingly spectacular as the previous 3, but that leaves a lot of room to still be pretty frickin' great. (Though I agree with the comment above that 3 would have been the perfect place to stop.)

I’m still floored that Toy Story was co-written by Joss Whedon. Co-created, really, since the original draft script is almost nothing like the version that he and others wrote.

Excellent movie and very excited to see you watch the rest of the franchise. This movie is particularly special to me, a Gen X'er as most of the toys shown were toys of my childhood. I know Etch-a-Sketch enjoyed a significant increase in sales after this movie. My daughter and I would watch and sing along and my son and I would quote the movie to each other. He always emphatically said the "You are a Toy" line. My daughter is getting married at the end of the year, and I've been thinking of a song for the Father of the Bride dance and can't think of a better one for us than You've Got a Friend in Me.

I think if you want a sweet, perfect ending you stop at Toy Story 3. The fourth movie is still good but it kind of taints what should have been the ending of the story after the third movie

This is the first time I've noticed that the carpet in Sid's house is the carpet from the Overlook Hotel... Edit: and so did everybody else in here apparently. What a weird coincidence. Maybe the editing just happened to emphasize it. 2nd edit: ah, it's because George mentioned it at the end. I happened to notice it organically on this viewing.

Not only is this Pixar's first film, but it's the first 3d animated feature ever made. Everyone hated the lightyear film cause they replaced tim allen with chris evans for no good reason. Toy Story 2 is a Masterpiece, the best in the franchise. Bring tissues for the next two :)

This film did not teach me to be nice to my toys, i was inspired by Sid and destroyed all of my toys using a baseball bat or a bb gun. i did keep all the body parts in a tub and would reassemble them into different weird creations. wish I kept the box, wish I didn't destroy a bunch of 80s and 90s action figures... i did not grow up to be a psycho lol

I swear sometimes, it's alright just to watch a movie and not just comment on everything because you guys are missing a light of good lines. Alot of times, you guys mainly George just keeps talking through everything. I get reacting but you're missing a lot of dialogue.

Toy Story 1-3 are a rock solid kid's movie trilogy, each one building on the last. Toy Story 4 is a good movie, but feels like a departure from the first 3.

See, I don't hate Sid, I pity him. He's clearly neglected, his father is drunk and asleep during the middle of the day, he's constantly on his own. And dismantling and rebuilding toys is the only creative method of expression his young mind is capable of at the moment. We see him as evil because WE know the toys are alive, but he doesn't. He has no idea what he's doing, and he's then cursed with that knowledge and the fact that he's being watched by sleepless, immortal beings for the rest of his life, a truth no one else will ever believe. His punishment absolutely doesn't fit.

I'm gonna push back on the Lightyear discourse. Movies bomb all the time and it's not always related to quality. I'm not gonna say Lightyear is anywhere near the level of quality of the Toy Story movies, but the fact that it bombed was more related to disinterest/saturation and anti-woke idiots freaking out than it was about how good it is. I think it's still a good movie and worth a watch, just again, nothing amazing.
