It’s done now. Yay. I could be pedantic about Mr. Cellophane, but I’ll leave that for someone more invested.

Matthew Wabals

I’m taking this opportunity to recommend All that Jazz

Bad Habit Babbitt

Well the last hanging I remember hearing about was in the 2000s when Saddam Hussain got his final day on Earth.

Bookwormy

Still blown away that Catherine did all this while preggers

nigel Macbug

Canada's last hanging 1962 US last hanging 1996

Y'know I always figured that you two had some major beef going on behind the cameras. I keep waiting for the newspapers to break the story of your ugly hateful rivalry. It's the length of the rope combined with the style of knot that determines whether a person's neck is broken in the fall. If the rope is too short, or they use the wrong type of knot, then the victim survives the fall and strangles to death. This is called a "short drop". The "standard drop" and "long drop" lead to a broken neck. There's always a risk of the drop being TOO long, with the victim actually being decapitated, but they figured out the appropriate lengths in the 1800s.

Pam Nail

Ditto. Fosse's best.

Mastervodo

I've seen Simone practicing with that axe. "Chopping Wood". Uh huh. Sure. Also - I'm a bit nervous about how much you know about ropes, knots and killing people with them.

YoureMrLebowski

Whose arm is Simone's arm, Roxie or Velma? Or is that Simone's actual arm and she's been attacked by her cat?

myinniemademedoit

Big fan of the YT channel. Keep up the good work!

LengyelFlo

Yeah, Cellblock Tango is one of the top musical compositions ever written. - And, as you realized by the end of the reaction, the point of the movie is not that how horrible persons the main characters are, but that how horrible society we all are because we, the media audience, are buying them.

Happy Hanukkah

Chicago?! Baby, What a big surprise! If you can't be famous, be *more* than famous!

Monica Alarcon

Is that a reference to the band Chicago or just a coincidence?

John W Foster

'This is the sexiest thing I've ever seen' - Tell me you just watched a Bob Fosse staged musical, without telling me that's what you watched. :)

Andrew Nguyen

"It was a murder, but not a crime!" is one of my favorite lines from that song for that same reason. This musical also popped in my given all the recent Luigi Mangione love floating around on the internet

Rob Church

I honestly don't find modern execution methods much better than hanging. I would def take shooting squad or even the guillotine over something like lethal injection and don't even get me started on the electric chair.

OlRock

Still think this is the best example of a stage production being elevated to film… Doesn’t hurt that it is also arguably the career best performance almost across the board for cast and crew.

Happy Hanukkah

15:49 Emmy and Tony winner Christine Baranski. 26:45 Don't you know the famous aphorism? You never miss a shot you don't take! :-P 28:58 "Sympathizable." I sympathize with your coining this word, as sympathetic is ambiguous. 34:12 I'm reminded of (the first half of) this clip from Boston Legal (With The William Shatner and John Larroquette): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDz0DrkGPUI 37:42 F--k freedom and life! I want fame and fortune!!! (I'll settle for fame.) 42:33 "We're part of the problem." As per the last line of the movie: "We could not have done it without you." Trivia: The most cited piece trivia (already mentioned by Bookwormy) is that CZJ was pregnant during filming. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0299658/trivia/?item=tr3318463 And finally, for the record: Én ártatlan vagyok!

punterjoe

Yeah. Before I saw it, I thought "Roy Schneider? Really?" Kind of how before I saw Chicago, I thought "Renee Zellweiger & Richard Gere?" I'm getting used to being proven wrong 😏

MPH

I saw this on Broadway when I was 13 with my parents and little brother. It blew us away. I fucking love Chicago. It's WAY better on stage, but the movie is great.

MPH

Chair is the worst, but the injection is pretty fucked too. The guillotine is most humane, but the roboticness of it is horrific in its own way. Zip, thud, dead. Zip, thud, dead. Zip, thud, dead. So much death, so quickly.

Amar

Disney seems to be doing really well on your Youtube channel so here are some more good ones to add. I'm sure Simone has seen some but it would be cool to see George react to them for the first time. -Ratatouille -Bug's Life -Soul -Wild Robot -Secret Life Of Pets

As someone who’s lived in Chicago, if it didn’t win I was about to unsub [I kid of course… but maybe…] No, I’m so glad you all got to watch it. It’s such a fantastic movie.

AdamLovesMusic

One of my favorites. Very glad to see this on here. I just sang Razzle Dazzle at karaoke tonight so great timing.

Peter Dillard

I saw the original production on Broadway. It was fantastic! You mentioned that it was sexy and that's not a surprise since Bob Fosse directed and choreographed the original.

Brandon

I think you guys would love 'All That Jazz'. It's a semi-autobiographical musical about Bob Fosse. He was one of the two minds behind making the original play version of Chicago into a Broadway musical. Much like Chicago, it turns some pretty dark stuff into a compelling musical drama. I remember being all salty when Chicago beat The Two Towers for Best Picture at the Oscars that year. Then I eventually saw the movie and had to give in. It deserved the win and then some.

BoredLittleLady

This movie makes me want to recommend Changeling (2008) starring Angelina Jolie. It’s a drama. Not a musical. Set in the 1920s.

BoredLittleLady

I agree with all of these. I recently saw Wild Robot. It’s so sweet.

Happy Hanukkah

You've reminded me of the movie Blink (a 1993 thriller set in Chicago), and especially of Roger Ebert's review of it, which seems more about Chicago than about the movie. :-) Perhaps it's another reviewer who wrote: "The movie stars Madeleine Stowe, Aidan Quinn, and the city of Chicago." The review, which obviously reveals some of the plot: https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/blink-1994

As far as other musicals I’d love for y’all to react to Cabaret. Sadly incredibly poignant with today’s political climate (USA). I think y’all would dig on it a lot. Anyway love the channel. New Patreon subscriber. So happy to be supporting y’all, I’m a a big fan. Thanks for doing this one!

Mitch M

1776 is a fantastic musical from the 70s that's unfortunately gotten lost, but which would be a stellar (and prescient) choice around July 4 for your American viewers. Watch with the subtitles, on, though.

Emily Gray

I remember the year this movie came out, the 'merry murderesses' from Cell Block Tango were very popular halloween costumes!
