Jeff K.

Well, guess it's time for me to finally watch Severance.

Vellu

Great, Severance has been on my list for a while

Superpotroast

So what's the in between BCS show?? ;)

Michael Haug

So after severance, the 3rd place show, Deadwood. Can't wait. Just following you mr logic. 😜

Maiki

Haha, thanks for the laugh at the beginning. "(Auf) Wiedersehen" means goodbye. As a noun, "Das Wiedersehen", it means reunion. The beer you're talking about is "Hefeweizen", which just means wheat beer. Also excited for Severance!

cincassette

Ugh, fine… I guess I’ll watch Severance Season 1 again… for the 10th time 🙄🤩

Jeff K.

So George, in case y'all don't figure it out later in the reaction: wiedersehen means "see you again" in German; the beer you're thinking of is hefeweizen, which is a style of beer, and not a brand. (It's a wheat beer; hefeweizens are damn good.) EDIT: and I just now noticed someone else beat me to this anyway. You win this round, Maiki…

Itbewhatitbe

? simone made the guess it was the beer

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Loved this season of BCS but really looking forward to seeing how you guys will feel getting into Severance. Mum’s the word but be ready for an experience 😉👊

Jeff K.

Yes but then George googled the name and didn’t find it, so clarifying for him. (Well, for both but George is the one who seems to handle the comments section.)

ShōNuff3K

Ha ha ha we'll do season one...then BCS S5...okay we will see.

ShōNuff3K

They are watching better call Saul...Fargo S1 is a must soon 😉

Nathan Jasper

Out of nowhere is exactly what happens. Panic attacks are essentially PTSD memories or severe anxieties resurfacing.

Peter Vasey

Insanely jealous of everyone who gets to experience Severance for the first time.

Itbewhatitbe

i feel like they were more confused by the why rather than the when, like they didnt notice any reason for him to have panic attacks in prior episodes and he just suddenly got one. so they arent sure if it was caused by the explosive or other things.

Nathan Jasper

Ah okay, I could have just misread/misinterpreted.

Jeff K.

I'm excited. Another channel I'm a Patron for is starting Severance in the next week or two as well, and I've been meaning to finally dive in (my wife has already watched all of it and has been trying to get me to take the plunge). I know I'll enjoy it but my attention span is so bad these days that getting into a new show feels daunting.

Jeff K.

The Wire season 3.

Maiki

Haven't seen it either yet and just like with Shogun, I'm looking forward to see new stuff inbetween BCS seasons. Tuesdays this year are awesome :)

Ira K.

I'm so ready for Severance omg!!

Monster Cat

holy fuck. i dont know how many people suggested but I was one of them. SEVERANCE LETS GOOO!!!

Superpotroast

Like G&S I also have somehow avoided all spoilers for Severance..And I wasn't even trying..

Vwlss Nvwls

It was not about Jimmy's relationship with Chuck so much as how did Chuck's influence effect Jimmy's view of the law.

Jethro Divine

I am terribly sorry, George, Simone, Luna, Maggie, the third fluff of love, and George's feet pics because I have to leave your Patreon due to personal economy issues. I will be missed. Good luck and have fun!

Amar

I been waiting to watch Severance for the first time with you guys. Exciting stuff.

Josh

Welp, jimmys awesome pep talk to the girl was ruined because people still don’t fully understand jimmys character

Sergio Meira

Hooray! Better Call Saul today, and Severance next Tuesday! Shall I open the cabernet? I remember how exciting and unnerving the very first minutes of the first episode were. I'm really interesting in seeing G&S's reaction! (I have some expectations... if it weren't for spoilers, I'd collect bets -- like Jimmy -- for how exactly folks here expect them to react.)

Sergio Meira

The point was not so much Jimmy's character, as who Jimmy is becoming. It's quite sobering to watch.

Sergio Meira

And Dark Kim strikes again, showing she's got what it takes to be Jimmy 2.0!

Jeff K.

I'm so curious to finally watch it. I know a little more than George and Simone about the show, but not much. Just a few of the actors other than Adam Scott, and who created the show (which I won't say here, because I'm very curious to see their reaction when they see that person's name pop up), and a general vibe for the type of show it is. Other than that, going in blind.

Maiki

Same with the blanket, Simone. I need at least something thin, even if it only covers some parts. Man I love that final shot of the last Mike/Werner sequence. So sad, yet so beautiful in a way.

Shawnie

Well… I know what I’m watching hungover from St Patrick’s next week!

Sergio Meira

Yes, even though the actor, Tom Dalton, is one of the best people around (you should see an interview I saw once where he talked about his philanthropic work), Eduardo 'Lalo' Salamanca is... not good.

Sergio Meira

Just in case nobody has said it yet... "Auf Wiedersehen" is German for "goodbye"... something that ends up having two meanings in Better Call Saul...

Jeff I.

Really looking forward to Severance, but I'm also worried for the comment section as far as people getting overly excited and giving you hints or info about the characters/lore that the show doesn't want you to know about (at least for sure) until a later episode. Or the classic, "Wow, your prediction/intuition about this detail is so accurate!" A handful of people did it in Breaking Bad and Hill House, and I know you get email notifications of every comment, so it's hard to avoid them. Also, Severance is similar to Hill House in how it slowly feeds information to the audience. It's a more "show, don't tell" kind of show, and I can imagine you will have a ton of questions the first couple of episodes, but they will be answered in time. :-)

Tay Schumaker

Panic attacks rarely arrive on schedule

Tay Schumaker

Yeah fully expect some “clever” people to spoil it

Jeff K.

So you're saying panic attacks are never late, nor are they early? They arrive precisely when they mean to?

TGrimace

Ohhh. I usually hate the breaks between seasons, because I'm so eager to get more Better Call Saul. But Severance? Yeah.... I can get on board with that!

Sergio Meira

I think the main point of Kim's fight with Jimmy (after the board decided not to reinstate him) was that Jimmy showed how much he hates himself, by transferring this hate right on to Kim. You see, all this fear he has that she is just "playing and having fun" with "slippin' Jimmy" who isn't worthy (worthy!) of sharing an office with her... this is stuff he has been thinking ever since he saw her office and S&C, right? (I'm reminded of that incident with Howard when he opened up and showed himself vulnerable to them, just to hear Jimmy say 'it sucks to be you'...) Imagine what he attributed to Kim as thoughts he's been having about himself. Imagine his ego trying to protect himself by throwing the accusations he does against himself on to her. Isn't that... human? And doesn't that show how much his ego is devolving?...

MoonageDaydream

SEVERANCE? I used to pray for times like this

Rob Bob

Severance season 1 is one of the greatest first seasons of television I have ever seen. The finale is simply mind blowing, as is every other episode lol. I'm definitely getting another month of patreon, that's for sure.

Sergio Meira

You guys make an interesting point about Jimmy being sincere when he didn't mention Chuck. You're probably right. In the context of these series, though (about which it has been said, 'in BCS no good thought, no good deed goes unpunished'), it is ironical that when he is sincere -- his interview with the board at the end of Ep. 09 -- he is considered insincere, and when he actually is insincere -- his tearful speech about Chuck at the end of Ep. 10 -- then he is believed to be sincere, even by someone who knows him so well as Kim. How hard it is for someone to insist on being good, when he gets thrown such buckets of cold water in the face for each attempt? It's as if the universe is conspiring to bring Jimmy's worst self out to play...

Sergio Meira

Let me just say I think the show is great, enough that I wish I could be like you and watch it without knowing anything!

Justtired

So glad George made the Warriors reference with “Miiike! Come out to playeeya!”. I thought the exact same thing 🤣

Martin Roca

"I'll do everything in my power to be worthy of the name McGill", yeah for 5 minutes...

Sergio Meira

The initial scene of Ep. 10 -- with Jimmy and Chuck singing 'The Winner Takes It All' -- just fills my eyes with tears. Oh, these two could have been such great friends!... But Chuck wouldn't have it.

Philipp Roensch

Yeah sure, I've also been putting of Severance, let's go! I believe Werner's panic attack stems from multiple factors, he is homesick for sure, but also the weight of the project and warning from Mike last episode kinda dawns on him, he has been strong under the circumstances. He could not see it, but Gus will always take/order drastic measures if Lalo caught wind of the operation. I think this whole B plots adds a lot to BB as well, we get to see how much work and sacrifice goes into the lab. Love that rooftop confrontation between Jimmy and Kim, they finally say what is on their minds. Jimmy might not remember Chuck anymore, but he knows how to weaponize the pity people have for him. Such a devastating move from Jimmy.

Jeff K.

So when you guys were mentioning how of course Chuck can sing because of Spinal Tap, it's a reminder: y'all need to get back into the Chris Guest movies and watch A Mighty Wind if you wanna see just how talented a musician Michael McKean is.

Ira K.

Same. I always cry when I watch this scene

REDR58

Severance! About time.

Sergio Meira

Jimmy's little speech to Cristina Esposito reminds me that what might perhaps be the main theme in BCS is "you really need perseverance and belief to be and remain a good person." Yes, he was talking about himself. Yes, he forgot he was talking to a teenager who had just graduated from highschool. Yes, his emotions were all wrong. But it seems he was telling her the truth. She was never going to get it, because there were too many votes from people who would never give that scholarship to a 'shoplifter.' You may of course discuss the extent to which Jimmy was right, or wrong. You may wonder what it means about our society, and its commitment to its principles (such as 'justice' or 'the law'). Or you may wonder about Jimmy and how easy it is for him to use a teenager as a proxy for his own feelings of, correctly or incorrectly, being the victim of injustice. But what I like in this show is how it makes it possible to see both sides. You can see Jimmy's, you can see the board's, you can even see Howard's. It was a morally tough decision to make. And Jimmy's reaction is all too human. But it seems now he's decided the world is really against him, that they'll never let him have anything unless he bends the rules a little bit. You can tell him example after example of him giving up on something that would have been good for him. You can talk to him about how much he himself is guilty. That it isn't as simple as he puts it -- nothing is. But you can also see the thought becoming hardened in his mind, part of the glasses through which he'll see the world. Indeed, The Winner Takes It All. And The Winner isn't losing any sleep over the fact that there have been, often innocent, losers. So, as that guy said to him once, what kind of person to you want to be? A wolf or a sheep?...

Actuarial Lurker

Wiedersehen mean "See Ya Later...." and given the episode content its apropos

Sergio Meira

What really broke my heart in tiny pieces in the conversation between Werner Ziegler and Mike in Ep. 10 was that, once Werner understood there was no way out -- he was dead anyway -- he even walked politely away, so Mike wouldn't have to look at his face while shooting him. Considerate of other people's feelings down to the very last moment of his life. Mike's arc has always been defined by this, hasn't it? A sad old man having to do something he hates because he's even more afraid of the consequences of not doing it. Ever since he took that first bribe... he's been walking downstairs, step by effing painful step, doing worse and worse, becoming worse and worse in action if not in heart. What difference does it make if you suffer for every bad thing you do, if you still do those bad things? Isn't that what Chuck always criticized in Jimmy -- that he did bad things, then sincerely repented and cried about them? The lesson of BCS: it takes guts to be good. It really does.

Sergio Meira

'Eggs or pancakes?'... 😭😭😭

Sergio Meira

That short sequence with the camera moving slowly away from Kim as she looks in disbelief at Jimmy, now aware that that high-sincerity scene was just that... a scene? How will she in the future even be able to tell if he's lying or not?... Perhaps the last time he was really sincere about Chuck was that scene (also with Kim) where he gave his impression of talking to Chuck about the Mabel book. 'I had forgotten what it was like to talk to Chuck for five minutes without him hating me...' Well, Saul Goodman is almost complete. All you need is the clothes.

Actuarial Lurker

Slippin' Kimmy and the "Notorious Case of the Breast Milk Spillage"

djKENTO

This show is cool and all... but have you heard about ANDOR?

Carlos H

Werner's last scene was beautifully shot (no pun intended). It gave me Godfather 2, Fredo on the lake, vibes

Villa Lobos

Rhea Seehorn doesn’t get the recognition she deserves for this show. She made this show so much better. She should have won a Emmy.

Actuarial Lurker

Classic is the old White woman moving her purse away because Nacho is standing nearby- so do we really like the Casa Tranquilla residents? Casa Tranquilla is NOT Sandpiper it's the place Walter blows up. Its actually great storytelling since it reinforces our view that even though Nacho is a drug dealer he would never steal an old woman's purse

Maiki

Fingers crossed things get better. All the best, mate.

Jethro Divine

I appreciate the support. Hopefully, the absence will be a short one so I can hang with all the good people over here again.

Actuarial Lurker

RIP Fred- Lalo's first kill on screen. Werner loves his wife so much he is willing to die for her...Mike respects that and this on top of the death of his son Matt are what will likely break him...

CarolynK

Severance! Yessssss

Deadly Ramon

Loved your reaction to seeing Ernesto singing some Bonnie Tyler. I really wish that character had more frequent appearances and even a spinoff series. Huell, too!

Helly R

Good luck not watching s2 of Severance immediately after s1.

Tay Schumaker

We had to wait 3 years, they can wait 5 weeks

Brad Lowry

You do know that you've heard Michael McKean sing before?... like many, many songs in a pervious reaction ... since my spoiler alert radar is not that good I'll leave it to another to spill it all the way, if indicated...

BangDroid

In women's fashion, skirt suits are definitely a thing, though not as common these days. Skirt suits and pant suits. This differentiation obviously doesn't really need to exist in Men's fashion. There is also the term dress suit, but traditionally, this is just a formal name for what we call a suit for anyone.

mojo shivers

It still amuses me that Michael McKean can go from Spinal Tap to Better Call Saul. Lol Every time I watch the karaoke scene I’m expecting the rest of the band to join him on stage with instruments.

Brad Lowry

There it is! George acknowledges that he (they) know that he was in Spinal Tap! (at 1:10:39)... so to string it one step futher: The tall blonde name partner of Davis & Main, Clifford Main was played by Ed Begley Jr. who played John "Stumpy" Pepys, one of the early Drummers for Spinal Tap in Spinal Tap (I think he was the "spontaneous combustion guy") (he is also the son of actor Ed Begley who played the unrepentant racist in "12 Angry Men")

Sergio Meira

Agreed. She was simply amazing, in almost every scene that gave her any lines to play. I hope she will be in many other series!

Jeff K.

Rhea is teaming with Vince Gilligan for a series that I believe is gonna be on Apple at some point in the near future. I think I read it’s some sort of sci-fi series.

matan ron

It's so funny that Jimmy says he's gonna do whatever it takes to be worthy of the name McGill, and then immediately changes his name to Goodman.

G P

You guys should check out Severance, little known show

Alan Pownall

You know, I think Jimmy has some complicated feelings with regard to his brother.

Helly R

It's coming out later this year. Direct two season order.

CD

HOLY SHEET!!! Severance

Horadriel

I hope it's about severe Ants or else I'll be disappointed

Vengeance

Perception is reality. People see what they want to see.

Kat and Kaizo

Pant suit comes from a time when women were expected to wear skirts/dresses, so it was not the norm for them. For men pants is the norm, so it doesn't need to be mentioned. It's probably time to just call it a suit universally.

cincassette

Yeah, "pant suit" makes me specifically think of unfashionable brightly-coloured politicians/business suits.

Jeff K.

Hmm. Now that you mention it, I think you could be onto something.

JBK405

I mentioned in a previous episode comment that every fan has a different opinion on when Jimmy "became" Saul. For me, the end of "Winner" is that moment: It's the exact point when Jimmy is standing before the board, reading the letter, and when he realizes he isn't getting through he doesn't let himself express any genuine emotions. Everything he says afterwards is him working a con. At THAT moment, he couldn't let any honesty come through. That was the moment for me. A lot of people try to say that Jimmy was being sincere in front of the first review board in "Wiedersehen", since at this point he honestly doesn't think about Chuck at all. Except the very last question wasn't 'What do you feel?' it was 'WHY do you feel that way?' And Chuck had a huge influence on Jimmy's life. Whether Jimmy was trying to prove himself to Chuck, or trying to prove Chuck wrong, or trying to live down to Chuck's worst opinion of him, Chuck INFLUENCED him. And Jimmy's refusal to even mention him WAS insincere. Especially since they know for a fact -- based on his own prior testimony -- that Chuck did heavily influence him. Plus, he didn't mention Kim, either. We saw in that flashback a few episodes ago that he didn't first walk into the HHM law library until after he saw how much Kim looked up to Chuck. That shared office has been a big sticking point for seasons, as they both brought up in the argument afterwards. So gaining her respect was also an impetus. Like you both said in your reaction, facing the question with "I don't want to get into my personal feelings" would have been sincere. But to say "The biggest impact on my law career and beliefs was the school I went to and NOTHING ELSE" is patently false. And since this is an ETHICAL review, where 'feelings' and 'sincerity' are literally what's being judged, that invalidates everything else.

james repka

I second this! Folksmen 4ever!

james repka

...and disregard the rest.

David Caine

George asked it before, Lalo is the typical nickname for someone named Eduardo. Like Nacho is a nickname for someone named Ignacio.

Benfica Sarajevo

Question for everybody else. Do you think Bob says "It's all good, man" or "Saul Goodman" at the end of Winner?

2026-09-05 05:00 So in my not so humble opinion the “bell origin” is maybe the weakest part of the show. I usually don’t like when writers feel the need to invent backstories for objects. 🤷 - to each their own. Maybe within gaming it is a huge part of the play, and sometimes in books but for me - tv and film not so much.

Silver Linings Starman

The German beer in the last episode was Hefeweizen, which is a type of beer, not a brand name.

SpankTheMonk

And one of the best parts of the series and also the most hard to watch is when Kim and Jimmy fight. Their performances are so good and emotional- it feels like when your parents fight when your young and you imagine them leaving you 💔 - Oh and the face acting by Rhea and Bob 🔥

MacGuffinStuff

That last shot of Kim reminds me of the last scene in the Godfather, the door closing on Kay. My little theory on Werner's behavior is a combination of the stress of the job, being away from Mararethe, and knowing that he's building a drug factory. He's smart enough I think to have figured out what and who he's doing this job for, just too naive to understand how ruthless people can be. But I think he's a deeply moral person and he kind of fucked himself trying to get out, not realizing that with these people there's only one way out. Probably not, just my theory. Also, Weidersehen, I think anyway, translates to "see you later". I do know that Hefeweizen is a real beer and it's a real good beer 🍻

Imthecatman

You guys are going to looooove Lalo...he's so fun!

Sergio Meira

That's true, but it is also true that in BCS Jimmy gets a lot of 'bad luck' events. How easy is it to end up believing one has to cheat to get ahead? People with much fewer instances of 'bad luck' events have reached the same conclusion... I see Jimmy sitting in his car, trying to start it and not being able to, until he hits the steering wheel and starts crying. To me, that's the last 'true Jimmy' moment. From now on, Saul is behind the wheel. Which doesn't mean Saul can't play Jimmy if he wants (for Kim, for instance, since Saul knows Kim loves Jimmy), but now he no longer has to. He can live as Saul.

Mike FromOz

Wavy hair Simone, woot! 🤩

Kevin

SEVERANCE! Yes! I am really hoping that yall continue HOTD Season 2, watch Succession, and watch Andor.

Vengeance

I agree. Jimmy sitting in the car crying could be his moment of saying “Never again!” and Saul takes over for good. But I argue that Jimmy never hits this low point if a few people in his life would’ve changed their perspective of him. Since moving to Albuquerque and working in the mail room, he was on the right path. He was doing everything the right way, until Chuck shoved him back down and just flat out disregarded all his hard work in becoming a lawyer. He reverted back to Slipping Jimmy at that point IMO. And with Chuck gone, the one person Jimmy tried to make proud, even if he still cut corners, he has no subconscious or mental check on his Slipping ways. Kim has gone along with him on scams, so he obviously feels he doesn’t need to try and hide that life from her anymore.

Jay Willis

I actually looked up why that's a nickname, turns out it has to do with the meaning behind the names. Eduardo means "wealthy guard" while Lalo means "wealthy/rich guardian". So it became a nickname for it.

ShōNuff3K

There ARE ants in season 2.

ShōNuff3K

You should check him out as Lenny form Laverne and Shirley.

mojo shivers

I used to watch that show too. But honestly I’ve forgotten most of his contributions to the episodes and a lot of the episodes themselves.

Marylou inProgress

I totally agree it's one of the weakest parts of the show. It didn't bother me too much personally but it's just... eh? I don't think the reveal of the whole dark back story is nearly as impactful as it was supposed to be, and honestly it came off as kind of self indulgent. But on the other hand I actually love that the bell is a gift from Lalo. So it's kinda 50/50 for me 🤷‍♀️ But yeah, in a show where most of the writing is SO on point, it's definitely one of the weaker bits imo.

Marylou inProgress

Damn, I was already spoiled about what happens to Werner but the scene still made me cry 😭 It's frustrating because what did he think would happen, but he's just such a gentle soul and it's so sad how it ends. Also HOLY COW the ending bit with Jimmy's speech about Chuck. I think it's kind of two things at once. On one hand, it's all a show and he totally manipulated everyone. Which is obviously the story Jimmy is telling himself. On the other hand, though, I think at least some part of it really was sincere, and he can't stand the sincerity. I think some part of what he said to Kim after was just Jimmy trying to pretend he was in control all along. Trying to pretend that of COURSE there's no sincerity and what do you MEAN he needs therapy??? Idk, just my own theory. Either way that was pretty chilling and I feel really bad for Kim :/ I think you guys really hit the nail on the head: he's all red flags, but he's so unreasonably good at getting you back on his side.

Marylou inProgress

First one. But with the implication that he means the second one. At least that's what I hear

Scoobay

Aww, here I was hoping you’d go back to Black Mirror. Season 7 will be out next month.

mojo shivers

I would love that. They missed one of the best seasons by not pushing to Season 6 and all it's amazing episodes. "Demon 79" is like in my top 3 episodes and it's a shame they'll never react to it it looks like.

Dragonhunter

I'd be cheating cause I watch it with subs😅

Scoobay

It’s wishful thinking but considering how short the seasons are, maybe they’ll dual watch it with one of the other shows.

Benfica Sarajevo

I always heard "It's all good, man", but it makes sense that he could literally be saying the name he picked to Kim

Brien

Making small talk with a bunch of people at a cocktail party would be my own personal hell.

BangDroid

You guys are so good at watching TV. Lol it's a funny sentence, but you really are professional TV watchers and really good at it!

DeAndrew Greene

I think what gets forgotten is Chuck's last words to Jimmy before he died. He essentially told Jimmy to stop trying to be something he's not cause it just causes more pain whether intentional or not and this season has been about him coming to terms with that. The one person Jimmy wanted to respect him told him that he wasn't important to him. Most likely a lie, I still think all of that changed Jimmy's outlook cause he had to ask himself why he's still trying to do things like everyone else instead of living his truth.

The Film Effect

I can’t wait for season 5. It’s easily the best season to me.

John Richards

George and Simone, take note.: In closing scenes before the Bar, Kim is wearing a woman's suit. Not a pantsuit, a woman's suit, with a jacket and skirt.

SpankTheMonk

Something I missed when watching through myself but it seems Chuck’s marriage was over before the condition. Or at least what Kim said in response to jimmy at karaoke. Also I love the lead singer of Spinal Tap gets a go. Also to be fair to Chuck, Jimmy does have a criminal record so any firm would have second thoughts- but yeah Chuck is/was an a-hole. Actually he proved that saying what you mean and doing what you say doesn’t always work. Also Jimmy didn’t intend to fool her, she feels for the performance. It’s eye opening for sure, she was helping, it is just another revelation. She does know him, but she is hoping helping him improve his situation would help be a better man perhaps.

Jeremy Rodriguez

I know you all have already finished watching but FYI, Lalo is short for Eduardo, and Nacho is short for Ignacio. No real double meanings, just shortening the name.
