PeppermintWizardOfAus

Anora, Unforgiven and The Deer Hunter would be excellent choices!

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Unforgiven is impeccable. RIP Mr Gene Hackman. Anora and Sound of Music are also worth watching for sure

Skip577

Anything but The Green Book. Please no….

ShōNuff3K

Oh God please not Anora.

Luca Kelly

Deer hunter pleeeeeeaase 😭

Carl Noraas

Yes! Rainman! Probably won’t win but it deserves to. :)

Mike FromOz

Unforgiven, in honor of Gene. And the fact that the movie deals really well with the consequence of actions taken in life. Million Dollar Baby unfortunately goes too much into ableist territory for me to like, which is a shame as I love Hilary Swank. Rest are ok. Just my humble opinion.

Zhivko Yakimov

By the way, feel free to go on a Sean Baker journey, anything he has directed is gold. I recommend "The Florida Project" and "Tangerine", both are great.

Rokkor X

I enjoyed it.

Mike FromOz

Yeah, they centered the wrong person in that film.

nossieboy

So I dub thee Unforgiven……

PeppermintWizardOfAus

It’s a fine movie with two exceptional lead performances but had absolutely no business winning best picture

Danika Silva

At the very least, the deer hunter is on their radar 🇨🇦🤞🥹

Jack

All are great except green book which is still decent but I would love to see you react to the deer hunter most of all.

Ashton Lewis

Strangely, a couple of months ago I convinced myself that you had reacted to Rain Man already, and spent a good hour trying to find your reaction to watch it again because I was sure you'd seen it and loved it... Glad it's on your radar now as I'm certain you will both really like it when you get round to it

Ethan Holgate

Anora is awesome absolutely loved that movie and was surprised it won a ton of Oscars glad it did though

Skip577

Yes it was fine. But it’s the 354th movie where the stubborn but charming white guy realizes minorities aren’t that bad after all!

Kim

When you watch Million Dollar Baby, make sure you have a box of tissues.

Rokkor X

Green Book is great too.

Smooticus

All of these are excellent and worth seeing. Had to put one of my 3 votes for Deer Hunter though. A great movie about the impact of war on communities. It was a big deal when it came out because it was the first of the Vietnam War movies that took a sympathetic look at the veterans who fought

Jeromy M

All stellar films, but I do hope we get to see George watching the Sound of Music one day.

Random Nevermind

Two movies with an Oscar. Please consider them The King’s speech One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Justtired

Definitely both of these

Amelie W

I remember when you saw True Grit you were fascinated by the moral ambiguity of the characters; the hallmark of Neo-Western movies, when Westerns went from trying to whitewash America's bloody past to interrogating it. The Unforgiven is largely credited as the turning point for that, so it should be fun.

paul rai

So happy to see the recent Best Picture winner, Anora, on here! Such a phenomenal film and Sean Baker is definitely a great filmmaker to explore. Sad with A24’s copyright issues because The Florida Project would’ve been a great reaction, but you’re getting the best with Anora. Incredible Oscar-winning performance from Mikey Madison.

theycallmekev

The deer hunter is a phenomenal film but unforgiven is deff the winner of this poll (especially with the recent passing of gene hackman). It’s arguably Clint’s best directed film.

Cc Decc

Did you know that both Suicide Squad (2016) (makeup and hair) and Pearl Harbor (2001) (sound) won Oscars? Clearly they should replace Million Dollar Baby and Green Book in this poll. 50 Shades of Grey was nominated for one too. Now that would be a watch.

Carl Evans

Rain Man is fun. You’ll have a good time.

Raymond DeGraw

Hoping for Unforgiven... RIP Gene Hackman... Hoping for these in the future... 1. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) 2. R.E.D. 3. Get Shorty 4. Crimson Tide 5. Enemy of the State

ShadowStunts

Something that would be really cool in the future is after each years oscars you watch a couple that won or were nominated that year. So many of the best movies at the oscars this year have so few reactors making videos about them. So it would be really cool to see that in the future

Funny That

Though not always true, because this week's voting list has some solid movies, its a popular view that the Best Picture winner is often wrong. Would suggest a worst best picture snubs poll, but I think many of the most well known have been covered on by Cinebinge already.

Adam K

I don’t understand the anti-Million Dollar Baby sentiment. I thought it was such a wonderful movie, and, frankly, one that results in terrific first time reactions. What is the issue folks have with it (try to avoid spoilers)?

Mike FromOz

I can't write about what's wrong with it without explaining the ending. Just google "Million Dollar Baby" + "Ableist" and you should be able to get on the right track.

pinkdino99

The only problem with Unforgiven is that it is The Cabin in the Woods of Westerns. You need to have seen enough Westerns to cotton on to how subversive it is.

Paddy Thompson

Good call! Not too mention a good pick to honor the late Gene Hackman as well!

Goofball Jones

Wow. You haven’t seen Unforgiven yet. Good to see Gene Hackman in one of his Oscar winning roles.

Chris

I loved Anora... but, uh, I'm not sure I wanna see someone react to it... Good luck with a YT cut!

Emptysea93

I honestly feel like Anora was great, but it won’t make a good reaction movie. If y’all watch an Oscar winner from this year, I suggest The Substance.

Tay Schumaker

Yeah first thing I thought of too. Most of the first half hour or so gonna have to be heavily censored

Philipp Roensch

Those Clint Eastwood vehicles don't get me, but Rain Man is a classic. Anora has been great, just seen it yesterday and I would love your take :D

Adam K

I am aware of that - just think it’s a shame and feel it takes away from this specific character’s choices based on her experiences.

Itbewhatitbe

they did Boogie Nights, i think Anora will be fine lmao

Itbewhatitbe

i never saw it as Anti Million Dollar Baby here, more so just theres better choices. Its a great movie, but Unforgiven is better. doesnt mean the former is bad

John

I’m a fan of The Count of Monte Cristo, RED, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State. For Gene Hackman I would add Mississippi Burning and the Conversation

Alex Laime

I agree with The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and Get Shorty

Alex Laime

Loved the Rain Man, its so good, and IMO Unforgiven is THE western movie.

Cc Decc

Yeah, almost every time I have mentioned it I have suggested things like Fistful of Dollars, Outlaw Josie Wales, Pale Rider etc. as appetizers. S&G are much more experienced movieheads now than when they started, but one genre they have only rarely touched has been westerns, and when they have, its mostly been post-Unforgiven Westerns.

Morningstar

Cloud Atlas please. ❣️

dudewheresmycar

Unforgiven better win. Would be a nice tribute watch in honour of Gene Hackman.

John

Two other Oscar winners. Lillies in the Field and In the Heat of the Night

Christian Rennie

It was a few years ago but I was floored watching a Blu-ray of Deer Hunter. Seeing the Cris picture brought back me memories of those days. Also seeing those actors so young was amazing.

Pat Poling

You can't go wrong with any of them

The Gunslinger

Could you cover Atlantis: The Lost Empire?

J.R.

Viva El Oscer!

Amar

All good films & not shocked that films in the 80's and early 90's are winning. Was very nice and refreshing to have that comedy poll with no older movies. Horrible bosses was a fun time.

Greenmc2000

Sing Sing needs to be here instead

Tyler Foster

FWIW, Green Book is already widely considered one of the most undeserving Best Picture Oscar winners in history. The family of one of the two guys it was about also called it bullshit. I think lots of people dislike lots of movies for many reasons, so I generally just let it go when things that are questionable appear on polls, but this is a rare instance where I feel fully justified in saying it's more Cinecringe material than Cinebinge.

Tyler Foster

If you two haven't already seen Parasite (and I'm sort of guessing you must have since it feels like it'd be on here otherwise), that's a much better pick.

Itbewhatitbe

im guessing George has since he seems to be well versed in Asian cinema. and im guessing Simone hasnt since its not Gilmore Girls or Buffy.

Tyler Foster

It was a very buzzy, popular movie, so it just wouldn't surprise me if they'd watched it together sometime just before they started the channel.

Jeff I.

Honestly, The Florida Project was very underwhelming to me overall. I usually like those kind of "slice of life" movies, but it felt disjointed and didn't do anything to really pull me into that world and its characters. The kid actors weren't very good IMO. Also, the scene at the last minute (very end of the movie) was so jarring and poorly executed that it ruined the rest of the movie for me.

Dan Holmes

Anora may be the worst film I’ve seen since Money Monster 😅 Very surprised million dollar baby isn’t doing better. Tho I’m hoping Rain Man wins. I swore you watched both of those already

Young Blood Priest

I really hoped the Deer Hunter would do better than this. 😔 That being said I’ll ride with Unforgiven.

Coleyra

The green book was way better than all the others oscars nominees of 2019.

cincassette

As Oscar-baity as it gets! The Hollywood elite patting themselves on the back for “not being racist” while avoiding any real confrontation with the issues. In my opinion, Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave are far better choices from that decade, in how they tackle racial issues with far more depth and nuance. From the 2010s best picture winners, I also particularly love Birdman and Parasite.

Bob Steger

For foreign language films I would love to them watch Parasite, Life is Beautiful, or Let the Right One In. No dubbing though, they must be in their original language.

mondawmin mall

The sound of music is one of the greatest movie ever

Travis

I've seen every movie listed. Feels odd when im offered a list and never seen any of them. Unforgiven is a very good film.

Jeff I.

12 Years A Slave is one of my dream reactions for S&G. It's such an amazing movie all around.

jmundt33a

Anora and Sound of Music are the bottom. Unforgiven and Deerhunter are the top. I enjoyed Rain Man the most. Million Dollar Baby is excellent. I threw Green Book a vote to make a point about Anora.

jmundt33a

Yeah. And only rescued from the bottom of this list by Anora.

G P

Now that you've seen the Nosferatus you should check out Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) and Shadow of the Vampire

jmundt33a

Oh my God. Money Monster. Complete with a TYT “Mike and Mike” style cameo for….what? Left wing cred??? 😂 Man, 2015 (when they shot that) feels like a billion years ago. Not 10.

jmundt33a

And as bad as that is, Anora, Crash, and Around The World in 80 Days exist. It’s very much in the Driving Miss Daisy/The Help lane of Oscar bait. Its flaws were more readily apparent to a wider audience faster than DMD and “inspired by true events” brings a higher standard these days. Usually.

Coleyra

Green Book is a really good movie.

Mike FromOz

Agreed. I'd up my membership to top tier if they did this.

Benjamin Herrera

Unforgiven is so damn good! Top Notch Western

Spacedone

Picked Unforgiven just for Gene Hackman.

Cliff Adams

1946 — The Best Years of Our Lives

Actuarial Lurker

Unbforgiven and Rain Man please- both with superior acting....Green Book has been criticized as being a fantasy about the nice White Guy who rescues the oppressed Black protagonist and underplaying the actual racism faced by the lead character. I agree that the movie was too "feel good'. My father was in the military in the late 1950s before I was born and he and three of his friends drove across country while on leave. When they were in the South and Midwest even though they were in full uniform the motels would only let him and one of the other guys in since the other 2 guys were not White- so they slept in the parking lot in their car in front of the main desk to shame the owners so people would see that people in uniform were being denied service. The movie did NOT portray the REAL violence or hate the way it should have and even the families of the real life people portrayed said that the film downplayed what happened to them

Actuarial Lurker

I loved that movie despite Keanu Reeves horrible campy acting...it was one of the few movies faithful to the actual book since IT WAS written as a series of letters back and forth to Mina and others and this is how the narration was treated

Matthew Johnson

One of the greatest films ever made - should definitely be included

Matthew Johnson

The disdain for Anora in these comments is wild to me. I think that’s an excellent movie and its tonal pivots would make for a really fun reaction.

Haye Zeus

I don’t think it’s necessary to have seen the previous Eastwood westerns to enjoy Unforgiven. It’s a great movie by itself. But there is a stronger connection when you have seen those and then watch Unforgiven. The man from those earlier movies was the legend, and this one you see the true man.

Tyler Foster

They already did Let the Right One In, and unfortunately ended up with the bad subtitles (there was a whole controversy about the home video subs versus the theatrical subs, which were more poetic and accurate to the intent. They were corrected, but of course the inferior subs are still floating around.) I have not seen Anora yet and the discourse has been more split than I would say it has been for Green Book.

Elroy

They rarely win so no biggie lol

2026-09-05 05:00 Definitely Rainman. Definitely.
2025-03-10 18:34

REDR58

It’s solidly in second so they will get to it sooner or later.

G P

Agreed - Keanu and Wynona's performances were not great, but Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins absolutely make up for it, and the faithfulness to the source material is amazing.

Jobbe Smit

Kinda disagree and wanna add some nuance. His closest family was quite happy with the movie. The extended family that wasn't consulted during production wasn't.

Max Carter

Anything but Green Book. The Deer Hunter, Unforgiven and Anora are all top tier films

Steve Mercier

Let's go Unforgiven...greatest goddamn western of all time. Yes, in my opinion. Seriously, anything but The Green Book, though.

Christian Sander

I don't care about westerns; I never could get into them. I am aware of the criticism of Green Book, but as far as I could follow, the criticism seemed to be coming from a bad place. I really enjoyed the film and still do. I also would not categorize it as a 'feel-good' movie at all."

Rachel W

I went through an old movie stage a few years back where I was obsessed with TCM. Just recorded all the classics I'd never seen, then got hooked and started watching pretty much everything and of all those films only 3 would become new favorites of mine. And Best Years of Our Lives was one of them.

Jakob Pedersen

The Green book is SO great. Whats up with the hate?

Rachel W

I could have sworn they already did Rain Man. Apparently not, lol! I hope they get to it, though, as it will prob finish sec-- and this poll has to be Unforgiven.

Rachel W

That's the end of that conversation.

jmundt33a

Uhhh, you appear to have misplaced one there.

jmundt33a

He got lost in an accent jungle for that role.

jmundt33a

This is a film I really enjoy.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Like nominees that should have gotten the win? Or movies of that year that should have been nominated to begin with?

2026-09-05 05:00 Speaking of Oscar caliber films that featured deeper than normal stripper characters... (yes, that was my tie in)... this channel should watch The Wrestler (2008) sometime. Really strong movie nominated for Best Pic and Lead Actor (and Rourke should have won for actor). Resurrected Mickey Rourke's career.
2025-03-10 21:35

p0sthum4n

Green Book is definitely the best film on this list.

2026-09-05 05:00 And while I'm rolling, speaking of films dealing with the PTSD of Vietnam War veterans... this channel really needs to watch Rambo (2008) sometime. 😁
2025-03-10 21:43

FranciscoGios

The top two movies on votes will be superb to react to.

droodly

"The Shape of Water" won in 2018. Let's scrap all these and do that instead! ;P

Mr. Writhms

Well, a snub can be either one... a movie or performance that was nominated that didn't win or a great movie (or performance) that was Oscar-worthy that was not nominated. But in this case, lets stick to the nominees that did not win. One performance that comes to mind is Denzel Washington in "Malcolm X".

Logan Kerlee

I very much prefer the original.

MacGuffinStuff

I've been hoping for a reaction to Unforgiven, it's one of my top ten all time favorite movies, and my favorite Western. Only problem is, I was hoping you guys would've watched some more earlier Eastwood Westerns, especially The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, but I'm cool if it wins, I think you guys will like it. For me I just think it's a little more impactful because at the time it was made Westerns were kind of a dead genre and it felt like Eastwood's last hurrah in Westerns (who knew he was just gonna keep making more hit movies for decades to come lol?).

Rachel W

That's what I thought!

JoshG

I don’t know why I thought you guys had already reacted to rain man

Michael

Unforgiven is so good. It’s in my top 3 westerns.

Drew

I *want* to watch Anora, but gotta vote Unforgiven. Another time

Dee Aitch

Unforgiven's great, but it's hard to deconstruct the western if you don't know what a western consists of, so it would be awesome to explore some of them first.

Chase Schleich

Rambo 2008? They still haven't watched Rambo 2 or Rambo 3 lol. Likely because of Studio C Anal. George almost had an aneurysm trying to get an edit to go through without a copyright strike. I doubt he wants to deal with that again. As for great Vietnam films, they haven't watched Platoon. Came in 2nd last week so back into the hat it goes.

Jacob King

It’s widely seen as simplistic and patronising. Mahershala Ali actually apologised to the family of Donald Shirley. I think the issue is they made a message movie out of a complicated and complex real life story.

Jacob King

I loved Anora. Quite a bit in the first half that might not be YouTube friendly but it’s a great romp for fans of Coen Brothers style comedy.

Cc Decc

Actually, you're right. They had all that trouble with First Blood (which is a little odd given that channels like PIB made it through). And the lack of Rambo (1982) reactions make me think the studio is unreasonable. Rambo III is cheesy enough to sidestep with no great loss. But in any case, Rambo (2008) was put out by different people (rights were sold in the late 90s) and has been done successfully a number of times on other reaction channels. Its also fundamentally a different genre than Platoon, with an emphasis on the "fun" part of that word. Platoon is a meditation on the evil of man. Rambo (2008) agrees, but thinks that's a great jumping off point for an action flick that will put hair on your chest. Grizzled old warrior dragged out for one last battle is practically a genre itself. You could almost draw thematic parallels to Logan, or even Unforgiven itself (more than almost -- its the same basic character arc/character goodbye). P.S. Plus, it stars Darla from Buffy for Simone!

The Film Effect

Especially when there is so much love for Green Book, which is one the worst Best Picture wins. Anora is no Unforgiven or The Deer Hunter, but it’s still excellent.

Daniel Bjork

So good to see Unforgiven leading - one of the few movies I consider to be “perfect.” You should probably watch some classic westerns (the man with no name trilogy is incredible) to appreciate just how well Unforgiven flips all the western tropes on their head.

cincassette

It's been said already, but watching Unforgiven before watching ANY classic Western is kind of like watching a team win a championship game without watching their season play out, only knowing one or two of the players' names and frankly being unfamiliar with how the game is played in the first place. My recommendations for Westerns to watch before Unforgiven would be: - The Searchers (1956) - High Noon (1952) - A Fistful of Dollars (1964) I'd say these three, together, cover some of the essential archetypes of the Western that Unforgiven deconstructs. Additionally, I'd urge you to watch Leone's remaining Westerns after Fistful, some of the finest Westerns ever made: - For a Few Dollars More (1965) - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966) - Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) Of course, it’s an unrealistic expectation after hundreds of patrons have already voted for something. You’ll enjoy Unforgiven regardless, but I’d encourage you to check out some of these films sooner rather than later. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how Unforgiven compares to its predecessors.

JiggyTurtle

tullius droolius, let's simmer

Bookwormy

This is where I shoot my shot and ask you guys to watch Conclave from 2024. It was amazing to me.

Smooticus

After this y'all need to do academy award winners from the 60's through 80's, then 30's through 50's. Some incredible movies in those eras

ray

I just may be completely out of the loop, but have they said anything about Wicked?

peter mcconnell

Deer Hunter. An acting master class from this ensemble.

Vellu

Don't forget One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975): Best Actor for Jack Nicholson, Best Actress for Louise Fletcher, Best Direction for Forman, Best Picture, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman

DinChild

Green Book is okay, and I've heard Deer Hunter is great, but the rest are all required viewing. I clicked them all.

Lyle Morgan

I feel like that movie has fallen through the cracks for some reason. No one ever talks about it, but it’s an incredible performance and highly re-watchable.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Don't forget the all-time classic of the genre: Three Amigos! 🙃

Khan1001

Unforgiven, no question, especially since we just lost the great Gene Hackman RIP.

thebeefmaster

And the follow up to "the man with no name trilogy": Spaghetti Western Spoof/Parody Trilogy (Fun) They Call Me Trinity (1970) Trinity Is Still My Name (1971) My Name Is Nobody (1973)

MacGuffinStuff

Well one more caveat, the thing about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is that it's the third of a trilogy, and the three are connected, so it feels wrong to only recommend the last film in The Man With No Name Trilogy. Just had to correct myself on that.

Neumann

you know what else won several oscars, including best picture? SPOTLIGHT

John Richards

How about the last film to win both Best Actor and Best Actress, and had a nominee for best supporting actor? That's literally "As Good as it Gets"!

Cc Decc

Also, given George's love for all things mythological, a must see is the 1970 Oscar snub: Hercules In New York. You'll thank me later.

Rachel W

Pretty sure they did that one

jmundt33a

Definitely a must.

jmundt33a

It definitely should have had Anora’s slot. But Spotlight is excellent.

jmundt33a

I don’t remember him in RED.

jmundt33a

Was high on a previous poll. I’m sure it will be back.

Raymond DeGraw

Gene Hackman is only in the last three movies that I suggested.

Brandon Meng

What a fantastic poll. Although I really only care for a few of the movies, the fact this poll exists makes me happy. Unforgiven all the way, but Rain Man and Million Dollar Baby are just so so good as well. Would love to see a poll like this expanded to Oscar winning acting performances for which I would highlight Manchester by the Sea and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, two of my all time favorite movies. And then Sideways for the litany of other awards it won/was nominated for. My other recommendations, per usual: Perks of Being a Wallflower Forgetting Sarah Marshall The Royal Tenenbaums Cheers!

Robert Finlay

Can I recommend Argo which was the Best Picture winner in 2012?

Kelly Pickard

Recommending The King's Speech again, if we're looking for good Oscar-winning dramas.

Stephen

I'm once again recommending Count of monte cristo (2002) please throw it on a poll again :'

Rachel W

AND, it's an investigative film which Simone loves!

Rachel W

I've neve been able to get through Deerhunter.

James Falato

Missed the Poll by one day... I do believe "Million Dollar Baby" is THE "Must See" in this Poll!!! All the Others are "Should See" in Any Order/Any Time You Can...

REDR58

Just got my slightly-harder-than-expected-to-find copy of Big in the mail, with both versions on the disc, so whatever version we watch I’ll be ready. Commence ripping! I haven’t seen Big in ages so looking forward to revisiting it!

TomServo

Not entirely sure how recommending movies works. Would like to petition for Cruel Intentions sometime down the line, if only to watch more SMG.

Terdell Ferguson

Unforgiven is easily one of the greatest Westerns ever made and one of my own top four Westerns. Fantastic in every way, and I can't wait to view this one with you both. No spoilers here. I'll reserve the rest of this comment for after the viewing.

Cc Decc

I will say this: Cruel Intentions was brilliant, but it was also a spin on Dangerous Liasons (1988). I think the yummiest Cruel Intentions watch comes after you have first seen Liasons with the plot in its original period setting and with all those huge actors involved. Then the YAing of the whole thing for a new generation of actors in a modern setting in Intentions is just hilarious.

SootyBlackKitty

Oh man! lol I missed the poll nooooooo - oh well! 😂 I would have voted for Anora anyway and there wasn’t no way it was going to win
