oh heck yea, look forward to rewatching these :)

Josip Buretić

Oh so happy you watching this !! I was late to the party I did hear everyone talking about this show and I only finished first season the other day and all I can say is wooooooow what amazing show!!

theycallmekev

Arguably the best show on TV! Everything about it is perfect.

AdmiralZhou

Yessss severance is here!

Bookwormy

I haven't watched this show, so this seems like a good time to join in.

Inkpendude

Alright guys...please no spoilers. Let them discover things in their own

robodong

okay what if i just tell them one, just one. like that scene where Vader is actually Lukes father!!

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy Says Happy Halloween Grrr Argh

Ayy get ready for an intriguing season ahead, dudes. Binged this in a single weekend a bit after it came out so keen to rewatch. Also the title credits is one the most unique sequences for a show I can think of - so peculiarly creepy but awesome at the same time. Ben Stiller really showing off his versatility with this show as a director too!

Denashi

I'm SO happy you're finally watching this! One of the best shows I've watched, ever!

Patrick

I sleep in a racing car, do you?

Jeff K.

I just started the series over the weekend in anticipation for this, so I've gotten through the first two episodes. It's definitely very good. That said... I'm not quite getting all of the hype just yet. Obviously, I've only barely scratched the surface with the story/mystery, so I'm sure it'll keep digging its claws into me and have me fully hooked in the next few episodes, but I have to be honest, I've been slightly underwhelmed through these first two. (Again - it's still very good, and I'm sure it keeps getting better and better! Just hasn't quite hooked me yet.)

Jeff K.

Also for more Adam Scott goodness, I highly recommend the show Party Down. One of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen.

Joe Concepts

YES! It definitely looks like the TVA. There seems to be a run in TV and movies lately with old style, but somehow still modern, computers and electronics. This show is one, but you have the TVA in Loki and then the technology in both Fallout and Silo. "Retro" I guess. It gives things a timeless look, I think.

megamoo chilli

It reminds me of the Black Mirror episode where the person has a tiny version of herself trapped in a box as an assistant. The poor inside person has no choice because the outside person has priority, but the outside person who continually chooses to return to Lumon doesn't know what goes on inside so it's not an informed choice. Pretty horrific situation. Plus the outside person would become psychologically harmed by living a life with no work so they'd feel no sense of purpose.

Jeff I.

Yeah, spoilers or hints especially suck on a show like this where all the little mysteries/questions to be explained later on are half the fun.

Cartoons ReAct

Edited: You'll keep getting questions all the time, seems many here don't understand what an actual spoiler is

Jeff K.

You might not think that's a spoiler, but as someone also working my way through this show for the first time, it kinda IS a spoiler because you're telling us about the plot and story well in advance. Even if you're saying "Nothing gets answered" that's telling us a lot more than we'd probably like to know at this point.

Inkpendude

jesus christ there's always one of you. delete your comment

Maiki

Same. Not quite sure what to make of it yet. But intrigued enough to keep it going. IMDB ratings get way higher in the later episodes, so that's promising.

droodly

On my first time through as well, so thanks for that... kinda rude. Maybe delete this?

Cartoons ReAct

is not a spoiler at all, I said almost no answer...same as LOST people will keep wanting for answers...they got some but then got more questions, even when all of us saw the first season coming out we all felt answers wouldn't be that easy to get and no...no spoiler at all

Cartoons ReAct

no, not spoiler...not rude, not anything at all

Inkpendude

How about this..let them discover the show on their own. Why is that such a hard concept to understand?? just delete your comment

Jeff I.

Ugh with these kind of comments on the first two episodes. No, they don't need to know that, especially since I'd say a lot of lingering questions from Season 1 have been answered (or at least mostly answered). We haven't even seen the finale of Season 2 yet! And a third season is highly likely, as Ben Stiller has said they're already in the writing stage for it.

Endless_Art

When multiple people are telling you that your comment is a spoiler and it should be deleted, rather than double down maybe you should genuinely listen to their advice and err on the side of caution. That being said I also just fundamentally disagree with your comment anyways.

Stugotz

Ok this is a a very fascinating premise for a show. I watched for the first time along with you guys and I'm really tempted to just binge to the end but I'll wait. Since George gave his theory I'll give mine - I think he's on to something. They said the data they're looking at is encoded so maybe the implant doesn't completely decode the data but it allows them to "feel" what they're supposed to do, if that makes any sense. I think it must be some very sensitve mabye even illegal data they're sorting through so they're not allowed to actually see it, it just looks like random numbers but the implant sort of guides them into "binning" the relevant information. I don't know if what I'm saying makes any sense but I'm very interested to see where this goes.

Cartoons ReAct

people who hasn't seen the show can't tell is a spoiler or not, they are only assuming things from my non spoiler comment

robodong

Guillermo... whether what you said is spoiler/rude or not is not for you to decide lol. its for everyone else who read it. its like having bad breath, just because you say it isnt there, doesnt mean others will stop finding it unpleasant. you are spoiling things. its bad form. delete the comment.

robodong

WARNING: Do not read Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez's comment, as he has chosen to be the one to spoil things for everyone.

Cartoons ReAct

you do realize your comment could be considered a spoiler, right? mine wouldn't as I didn't spoiled anything...I only mention the intrigue will keep happening

Inkpendude

Hey George, there's a guy in the comments who wrote something that can slightly ruin the experience of watching the show for the first time. You might wanna be careful

Cartoons ReAct

is not a spoiler...is literally saying that season 2 keeps questions, like saying the Friends are still Friends during the entire run

2026-09-05 05:00 When I first watched the show, I felt like it was somewhat influenced by the game Portal, at least in aesthetic, but apparently it’s more influenced by the movie “Being John Malkovich” (1999). Which you guys should definitely watch!
2025-03-18 14:52

Inkpendude

how is saying "Season 2 almost no answer has been answered yet" not something that can ruin the experience my dude? think for a second. then delete your comment. please.

Stugotz

Someone send Guillermo to the Break Room 😂

Jeff K.

You literally said “nothing gets answered.” That is spoiling the show. Plain and simple.

Jacob

As someone who dislikes theory guesses to a degree in a single movie reaction, this is a completely different animal. Theory guesses and discussion actually make the reaction way more enjoyable for mystery box shows. It's part of the experience.

Galactic Cannibl

George, what is the LotR silhouette thing on your wall behind you? where could i find something like that??!!

Cinebinge

just the main cast walking up a hill haha. was on Etsy a while ago!

Jeff I.

This show was my first introduction to Adam Scott, and he has really impressed me (same with Britt Lower as Helly)! He can pull off both the comedic and serious/emotional moments really well. And the way he can shift his facial expressions on the elevator going from outie to innie Mark is great.

Sergio Meira

Why "Being John Malkovich"? What's the connection?

Jeffrey Conway

the theory portion of the reaction is "frustrating" but its an understandable frustration. You can't know what is going on. I remember feeling the same way.

Helly R

In terms of games it's directly influenced by Stanley Parable. Dan Erickson has cited it.

Helly R

Honestly they should get someone to screen them for a show like this.

Roxolan

Simone spent so long frozen in unblinking fascination/befuddlement I had to check multiple times that Youtube was still running.

Joe Concepts

I think my biggest problem with the show is how his sister ended up with Ricken. He does seem like a decent person, but he's also such a weirdo, and she's a down to earth regular person. But her and Mark's relationship is great. Their "Mi'lord," "M'lady" thing when they go to bed is a nice unexplained sibling thing. Some goofy joke they probably started when they were little.

Sergio Meira

Sooo... Ep. 1 is for letting us know that this series is not about being fired and having to live off your severance package, but rather about what makes us, us. What makes you, you. Are you your memories? If there are memories you can only access in another location, are you two people, since you now have two sets of memories -- your original one minus your work memories, and the memories and feelings you had while at work?

matan ron

The creepy boss lady (ms. Cobel / Selvig) told innie Mark that her mother was an atheist, but then at the same episode she told outie Mark that her mother was a devout catholic. I don't know why she would lie about something like that.

Tay Schumaker

This is probably my favorite show on TV right now, but I remember it took me a few times to get through episode 1. It definitely gets better as it goes and you learn more

TGrimace

Surreal. That is the word that always springs to mind when I'm watching this show.

Joe Concepts

I love the pseudo-intellectual asking why they didn't call it World War I at the time. And Mark really struggling to not call him an idiot.

Odd Thomas

(Dr. Evil voice) "Coooool"

Strap in, this is going to be a wild ride.

2026-09-05 05:00 So far to this point the exterior filming locations are in New Jersey. The Lumon building and its water tower is a real place, the Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey and you can visit it: https://bell.works/new-jersey/explore/ The interiors and hallway sets are mostly real, sometimes with some green screen extensions. Can’t say more about this right now.

Liuzetz

This show is awesome and I'm so glad you will be watching it! Loved the theory discussion and really excited to see what else your brains will create as guesses to what the show is about. Really allows you to expand your interpretation in each episode. This will be SO good to watch along. Thanks for the reaction <3

Sarahnade

I'm obsessed with this show lately. Such a pleasant surprise seeing this pop up!

Joe Concepts

Comment redacted because they explain it in episode 2. :)

Jenny-gave-forrest-aids

Hey guys, so happy you are doing this show now. It gets more and more awesome with each episode, and now this is my excuse to re-watch season 1 a third time. Btw, Simone mentioned during the reaction Mark's shaky hands... I remember seeing Adam Scott in old TV Talk Shows from years ago and noticing the exact same thing. I think perhaps that is a physical trait of the actor, and not a character trait at all.

Jeff I.

Yeah, people at first thought it was part of his character being an alcoholic outside of work (having the shakes), but Adam has a mild hand tremor in real life, and you can see it in interviews.

Denashi

It is crazy that noone had filmed anything there before Severance!

Helly R

A lot of the town stuff is in Kingston, NY and nearby.

Helly R

You guys should absolutely share theories. It's part of the fun of this show.

Tay Schumaker

The direction and cinematography on this show are top tier throughout

Brandon

I'm one of the ones watching along for the first time. And dammit, after these two episodes it's going to be really hard to not watch ahead. I obviously have no idea what Lumon Industries are up to, but it just seems to me like the whole Severance thing would benefit government agents, like black ops government sanctioned hits. That way agents wouldn't even know that they're killers. So unless sorting those numbers is just a physical representation of killing people, then I have no idea what could be so secretive about what they're doing. This show is all about how weird corporate culture can be. So my only theory right now is It's possible that what they're doing isn't even that special. The Severance thing is just designed to prevent employees from leaking secrets to competitors either intentionally or accidentally. A mundane twist would honestly blow my mind. Once again, I'd like to mention 'For All Mankind' - another terrific Apple series that at least deserves to end up on a poll one day. 😉

Jeff K.

I remember when Kristen Bell was guest hosting the Tonight Show and they surprised Adam Scott with Mark Hamill, who was his idol as a child, and Adam's hands were shaking like crazy. I thought it was just nerves from being surprised with his hero, never realized he actually has a bit of a tremor.

Joe Concepts

Interesting watching your theories while I'm up to date with season 2. As you can imagine some things are explained and some aren't so far. Because the show's not over yet. So some of your theories, even current viewers don't know an answer to yet. And one of the many things you casually mentioned here made me think of some season 2 things in a different light. This show is so original and really compelling. The one thing I keep thinking is, "How could they possibly END this story?" There's no way to predict.

Anamondaris

Ooh...This will be fun to waqqtch with you guys. This show is really great!

2026-09-05 05:00 The sinister corporation vibe reminds me of the PS4 game 'Control' - even down to Nelly's red hair. I'm sure it was an influence.

Jenny-gave-forrest-aids

I also remember that moment very clearly and the hands really caught my eye.

mojo shivers

I’m actually kind of watching it along with you guys. I had tried watching the first three episodes awhile back, but it felt really slow. But when I saw you guys were going to cover it soon on the channel I decided to start it again. Now I’m on episode six and I think I’ll stick with just keeping a few episodes of what you guys are releasing. Hopefully it brings me around to liking it more. I’m already liking where episode five and six set up.

m

BRAVO E N George is getting pretty stunlocked by the "corporate" aspect of the show, lol. Which is fair and definitely what we're aiming for here as far as vibes go, but when I first watched it, I definitely didn't see it for grotesquely anti-worker and culty, but more so as its very own world with a very tight ruleset required for (clearly) mystical, opaque science shit. Feeling numbers like that isn't just synesthesia. The second episode definitely broke the "it's just evil for evilness' sake" impression I might have gotten, things are just weird and at this stage, everything can be a red herring or the more obvious choice. I think this show is just such a good substrate to bounce virtually any idea off of. It's the meta joke about exploding things - people had some pretty fun ideas on reddit when it aired weekly which everyone agreed was an oldschool TV highlight (for all of two months, that is)... it's super difficult to spoil and well-executed with great performances in the first two episodes alone. And a really fun set of mysteries, to say it again. Last show that felt like this to me was probably Mr. Robot. A bit of a longer commitment than only two seasons, but very, very good in so many rights. Also would tickle George's thing about characters in movies and television being great at what they do. Edgier, less serious-but-wacky vibe though, mostly.

REDR58

I enjoyed it immensely from the start but do stick with it and I think you’ll really like it.

Sleepy

I'm watching this for the first time, and I have two thoughts: 1 - What's to stop the company lying about workers having "outies" and instead having two "innie" shifts, telling each one that they're the worker? If neither knows that the other is also working, you have an employee that only exists to work and sleep. To that end, what if there's a third split/identity/set of memories or some way to reset the memories of the "innies"? 2 - The work they're all doing reminds me of captcha. What if they're all being used as guinea pigs to study fear responses as a means of population control through subliminal messages?

Damian

Amazing. I envy you guys being able to watch this show for the first time. If you love watching people walking down corridors, then this show is for you. I forgot how slow and deliberate the pace is, yet so much happens in each episode. Severance is my current obsession so can’t wait to watch you watch more episodes.

Helly R

Yeah Britt and Tramell Tillman (Milchick) are the standouts for me - everyone knows Turturro is great, etc. I had not seen either of them before. But pretty much everyone is fantastic across the board. Jen Tullock as Devon too is so natural.

8bitAndy

When I first saw the intro it reminded me of the bad CGI in The Matrix sequels, so I'm surprised George likes it so much. The writing in this season is top notch though. It's going to be a fun few weeks. If you want to see Adam Scott in more stuff, check out The Good Place.

Tony E Crumpton

Once again, I don't think Geroge gets the humor of satire, and that's okay because it makes for a fun watch-along. Feels like he's approaching the show as a Black Mirror episode instead of enjoying the quirks and oddities it provides the viewer. The "dinner party" in episode one and the "wellness check" in episode two is a fantastic example of its oddball humor, but Geroge seemed to react in horror at both. Yeah, there are dark themes and plenty of mysteries, but overall the show is very, very funny with its tongue firmly in its chewed-up and bloody cheek.

Amelie W

I'd ask, how would you NOT develop two different personalities when one of you has no memories before waking up on a conference table? You never have any contact with people outside of a small group of work friends who you spend every moment of every day of every year with. You have no access to any outside information beyond what might filter down from your bosses (who barely want to inform you when they've fired someone you've known your entire life); no ability to contact anyone, no news, no entertainment, no culture, no privacy, no romance, no sunlight. I realize now they want that waffle party so bad because maybe they don't get to remember eating a lot of food. Even if a person would develop exactly the same memories/personality a second time if you expose them to perfectly replicated sensory inputs, which I doubt, the Severed department is definitely not that. It reminds me of nothing I've ever imagined, but only this experiment some pope did where they kept a bunch of newborn babies completely isolated from human contact to see if they'd develop a divine language on their own. They died in under a year; Irving lasting three seems reasonable since he's started out with a mature brain and all. And yeah here's how you can distinguish a cult from things that aren't cult: They control what information you have access to, control how you behave, control how you think and control how you feel. Giving you limited time to sleep and free time and discouraging contact with non-members are also significant warning signs, but the BITE model focuses primarily on those four things. This workplace isn't a little culty, it's a cult refined to Kafkaesque levels of impossible-in-the-real-world cultness. It's clearly the point of the show, if it was just about fantastically paranoid companies going to these lengths to protect their secrets there would be no need to restrict information going "in." When you've got a worker dying from identity crisis and you sit him down and tell him fairy tales about who he is on the outside, you're not just thinking of profits.

davidov

Sergio: I never thought about it but since you asked it has topics as: who are you really/living inside or sharing a body/a weird secret office floor that makes it happen/all the problems that come with it.

mojo shivers

Yes. It’s definitely getting there. Episode 5 and 6 definitely ramped up the curiosity as to what comes next. The first few episodes I never got that sense that I just had to know where it went from there.

Tay Schumaker

So fun fact about Walken. He and John Turturro are close friends in real life and it was Turturro who suggested Walker and convinced him to do the part.

Sarahnade

I also find the "dinner" friends infuriating. And the wellness check is deeply unsettling to me. I find it interesting that you see this show as a comedy. But that doesn't make you wrong. I totally get where you're coming from. It's just different to how I interpret the show. Consider that everyone has a different reaction to the same material. That doesn't mean they "don't get it".

robodong

ppl really like to give George grief for not reacting "correctly". you can understand that its satirical and ALSO find the characters annoying. a person can feel more than 1 thing at at a time. Hes stating a lot in the past that he finds pretentious characters grating, or loud=funny characters unfunny, like in Horrible Bosses recently. it doesnt mean he didnt know those scenes were for humor, it just isnt his kind of humor.

Tony E Crumpton

Yeah, I'm not saying anyone doesn't have the right to react and feel their own way about a show or scene. I just find the way he rects to these scenes to be funny, and not in a bad way. His reactions are one of the reasons I love these guys.

Tony E Crumpton

Everyone finds the dinner friends infuriating. That's what's funny about it, to me, anyway. It's a heightened example of that kind of snobbery, hence the satire. I'm not saying the premise of the show isn't upsetting, just handled in heightened and absurd manner.

droodly

I'm watching this for the first time as well. For 1, I think maybe it's because having an outtie who willingly comes back five days a week to earn a living keeps the innie in check. Like what happened with Helly. Helly's Innie would try to leave and the outtie just goes back in because it's what she wants. Also severance is a publicly known thing so if people just stop appearing outside work it might raise red flags eventually. I have no idea, but this show is really fun to think aboot. Can't wait til next week!

Jeff I.

Just a little not-so-fun fact about this first season, is that Adam Scott's mom died several months before they started filming for Season 1. He worked his real life emotions from that into his performance as a man still grieving for his wife and later said in an interview that doing that first season helped him process his mom's death.

Ari Ramirez

The sheer look of terror on George's face upon seeing the hells of dystopian and yet accurate corporate office practices

maikeru

Why are you arguing about that? The show is IMO a mystery-dramedy or mystery-drama with comedy elements. A LOT of scenes are intentionally both: unsettling/disturbing AND weird/funny in a dark way.

Tony E Crumpton

Whose arguing? I was just trying to make a statement that I enjoy George's reactions and why. I completely embrace his discomfort while watching the show, and not because I enjoy him being uncomfortable., but because it's entertaining.

Dustin Duvall

LFG! Been waiting for this. 🍿

804Media

They work inside the former Bell Laboratories campus in Holmdel, NJ; now known as "Bellworks." It's been divided up into commercial suites and on-campus hospitality. My father worked there in the early 90s and I more recently. The building is massive.

CD

Yeah...he obviously doesn't mean it.

maikeru

For me everything is fresh bc I watched the first season beginning of january and the first episode of the second season (at that time there were not more episodes out). Last week I binge watched the second season (I think the last ep comes out this week).

maikeru

I love the piano score so much and the intro is also one of my favorites. ps: I wonder what the yt thumbnails will look like 😄

maikeru

Sry, with "you" I didn‘t mean only you but you‘re right, I take it back :)

Gary Poussard

The creator just said the other day that he was inspired by the White Christmas episode of Black Mirror.

Tony E Crumpton

No problems. Your take back is accepted with hopely as much grace as with which it was give.

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

I'm on team first watch of Seveance, Geor-Mone. This is one of the few flicks or series' I haven't seen.

MaggiLou152

Simone mentioned his shaky hands. Adam Scott has a tremor. I have an essential tremor as well so I’ve always picked up on his. I first noticed his years ago while watching an interview with him on late night and have noticed it ever since. If you really watch for it you can see it in most things he’s in. I think they leaned into it for this show to show Mark’s alcohol use problems, stress, etc. which was a good choice.

DinChild

The reason this show got so much push from the community is BECAUSE of the Black Mirror style...also it's really, really good.

lampofamber

Watching along for the first time and I can feel a strong Lynchian influence. Characters with an uncanny valley feel to them, liminal spaces, dreamlike moments. Hope you guys give Lynch a proper try someday. Dune isn't exactly the best representation of his work, to put it lightly. There's a reason he's influenced Silent Hill and other horror universes.

Amelie W

Here's an important lesson about comedy: What's absurdly removed from reality from one person can be relatable for someone else.

gfixler

This isn't going to make any sense, but I switched to a stenography keyboard 10 months ago, which uses a chorded model, based on phonetics/sounds [mostly]. For sounds we don't have, we just use chords, so, like, the ending side N sound is −PB. To get the ending −nch or −rch sound, you use the -FRPB chord. There's an overlap there, though, which is rare—I've only run into it in this one case—but it means that "search" and "severance" both start with the chord SEFRPB. "Search" is SEFRPB (S, E, RCH), and "severance" is SEFRPBS (S, E, F, R, N, S). I noticed this about a month ago, when I tried to write "searches" (SEFRPBS), and it wrote "severance" instead. Thankfully, this almost never happens, until now, because I said "when the heck am I ever going to need to write "severance", and redefined that chord as "searches". Then just now I tried to search for "Severance" online, and ended up searching for "searches". 🙄 I'm sorry if none of that made sense, but this is the only place in the history of the world where it might have.

Cinebinge

oh interesting, that's good to know :)

Tony E Crumpton

I like your statement, but I would counter that comedy is a combination of relatability and absurdity, with comedy best used to point out the absurdity of reality. When a guy gets his nose broken and his teeth knocked out by a frying pan, we grit our teeth because we relate to the pain. When the cartoon duck gets his face flattened by a frying pan, we laugh at the absurdity of his flattened bill because we can relate to the pain. The dinner party scene is a great example from the show. We all (hopefully) relate to those kinds of people, but the absurdity of the conversation, not knowing why World War I was initially called The Great War, and the situation, a dinner party that only serves water, is absurd, allowing us to laugh. If a viewer can’t identify the absurdity/humor in that situation, perhaps they take life too seriously…or maybe I don’t take it seriously enough. As the old saying goes, comedy is tragedy plus time, and I’ve had a lot of both time and tragedy in my life, and I’m thankful for both.

s0rd3z

I have first time watched a LOT of stuff with you two at this point. This is one and its always a good time. I could go binge this... But I won't. Just going to keep watching along with you. It's fun to theorize along with ya.

RabidMango

There are already points of interest and clues even in the sets that are still relevant to the current mysteries of the show. I’m excited to rewatch.

Divinerights

I’d honestly suggest a pen and paper to take notes of things of interest. So many things I’m noticing on rewatch

Cinebinge

oh I (george) type in a notepad as i watch everything incase theres stuff i want to talk about but is too lengthy to do mid show

Divinerights

Totally valid. Hope you enjoy the show all the same, its a trip!

Tay Schumaker

Oh that's what you're always doing. I see you go to your keyboard a lot and never knew why. I just figured it was something with the software capture or something

Shawnie

I saw that Episode 3-4 come up and go away... put it back :/ such a tease haha

Cinebinge

haha that was a mistake, its a pre-emptive post that was accidentally published. the video file isnt even ready yet so theres nothing to watch even if it was posted.

Shawnie

I for sure thought you guys couldn’t wait and said fuck it… 🤣

Cinebinge

sometimes it is, sometimes its subtitle issues, sometimes its me typing to Simone to turn up or down her gain or whatever adjustment so as to not interrupt the movie. but most of the time its just notes

Jeff K.

Or is that what you WANT us to think... MRS. SELVIG!?

Inkpendude

George's inne pressed the wrong button

Amelie W

PS. Like yourselves, I was thinking a whole lot about whether Ms Cobel/Mrs Solveig is Severed or not, but here's what I realized on about the third viewing of episode 1: She tells Mark S an anecdote about her mother. Unless she's made up that whole thing up about her mother telling her about Hell being a product of human imagination, she does remember her childhood, unlike the regular workers at Severed department.

Jasmine W

I just realized that the boss says her mom was an atheist at work but when she's at home she says her mom was a catholic.

Landon DuVall

Oh interesting. I thought it was to accentuate his alcoholism.

twe

Simone's the first person I've seen actually catch the Eagan's breakfast correlation.

maikeru

@Shawnie cute puppy

maikeru

you know what‘s funny? some new patreons may think "episode 101 & 102?where is episode 1??“ 😅

Josip Buretić

Thank you for clarifying because I was thinking am I the only one who is crazy and saw You posting episodes 103/104

Josip Buretić

I saw also someone else catching that but that was great catch from Simone

m

Screw note-taking for shows imo, the majority of clues won't even necessarily reveal themselves over the course of a single episode, and most reactors get super distracted in shows where you really want to pay attention to the visuals anyway. Most people don't do it, as long as you don't miss dialogue, you're bound to be golden. I'd be all for turning on subtitles though, despite it being a hard no by many - that's actually the tried and proven way to maximize attention without significantly interfering with the viewer (if they can read, big surprise there). Also pretty much depends on the sub quality, not everyone is in the mood for manually offsetting them to not ruin timings and all that, so... Either way, people generally don't like it for the same reason they want the banter to not land exactly on spoken exchanges: it suggests the reactors aren't paying attention, even if they are, and folks kinda are into this format to watch people pay close attention to their favorite shows and movies in the first place. We've all clearly been part of it to some degree (just debating this alone lmao), someone misheard a line, you get stunlocked for the entire episode thinking about why they are watching at half volume or something like that. Two people watching the same thing at once is about as much redundancy as you should need. Never mind the futility of putting clues together in a show like that, lol. Edit: not that note taking isn't fair game or anything. I definitely keep hearing George go clackity clack once in a while, but it's not a big deal when, as he said, there is stuff to micromanage beyond just watching the show itself. So...

The only reason I suggest is that I see reactors struggle to remember everything, I assume because they’re watching so much. Me, I was binge watching this show a week at a time AND reading tweets and watching TikTok’s about theories. As they said they take notes already sometimes and that’s enough.

Holy shit it's John Turturro! Freakin' legend!

Dirt_Merchant

You said it, man. Nobody fucks with the Jesus.

Hello! I'm one of the people watching it for the first time along with you all. I knew the general premise going in but that's it. Wow what a wild time this is shaping up to be. The stuff in the stairwell in the first episode... The idea that you just keep showing back up in this office hell because a version of yourself you can never meet or communicate with makes the decision for you... Absolute nightmare fuel. I'm so excited to get into the rest of the season.

Marylou inProgress

I didn't catch it so I'm glad she did! What a cool detail.

Marylou inProgress

This is exactly what I'm thinking! If the company can use severance to just be a little extra secure, why wouldn't they use it for ordinary boring secrets? I think the satire would be extra on point if Lumon is putting its workers through this horrifying experience for totally mundane corporate reasons.

Dustin

Man you guys are in for a treat, I think George is going to be deeply enthralled the further you guys go. Simone is already pretty on top of her game catching one or two small things here and there. Season 2 just ended so be happy you didn't have to wait 3 years between season 1 and 2 but will be stuck with us waiting for season 3 once you get there.

Chris B

I never watched Severance before. Watched the first 2 episodes with this reaction. 2 days later, I have finished both seasons. I have no words...

Jeff K.

So I wasn't totally sold after the first two episodes. Wasn't totally sold after the first four. But then the back half of the first season just went up to a different level. Fully hooked by the end of the season.

Hey you kooky kids! I believe you are about to experience what a couple previous generations enjoyed while watching shows like "Twin Peaks" and "Lost". A 'live' week-by-week speculation-fest😆. No idea is too weird, no speculation is too wild. What you missed for a few years is speculation and wild theories across social media. And even after the Season 2 Finale this week, it only gets wilder! You've also missed some incredible fan-art in the form of drawing, painting, sketching, and video editing. Hope you eventually get to experience some of that! It's so creative & amazing. Finally, I'd like to direct you to the only official podcast "The Severance podcast with Ben Stiller & Adam Scott. It ONLY gives spoilers for the episode it talks about (not any future spoilers!) and deals mostly with production (George would LOVE) and interviews with the actors (both of you would love!!) find it on your favorite podcast service. They release episodes immediately following the broadcast, while everything is still fresh. I'm positive they will continue for season 3. Love you both so much!

Cobel / Selvig lies?!? Say it ain't so! 😂

Jon Johns

Publish your notes!!!! 😂

I wish Lynch had seen season one, and said something about it. If he did, I haven't seen it, but I can only imagine he would have loved it.

Jon Johns

"Geor-mone" is very germane to this thread 😂

Jon Johns

Fun fact: (supposedly) each episode cost more than the entire film "Godzilla: Minus One" 🤣

Ira K.

Oh wow, I didn't know it cost that much! I'm glad it's on Apple TV, they have money to spend. Would be crazy if that was a Netflix show, and it got cancelled. I would riot 🤣 I'm still not over Netflix cancelling 1899

Jacob King

Catching up because I wasn’t going to start again until the second season was done. Absolutely no spoilers, but there is a really beautiful Easter egg in Irving’s wellness session that I hadn’t picked up on. George said he liked shows that give you details that you only understand later there are moments in these two episodes that won’t pay off until the last two episodes of season two. This is the most tightly scripted mystery box show - everything is significant. The comparison to Loki is one a lot of people made at the time. I feel like that aesthetic was everywhere in 2021-2022. It’s probably a post Covid thing, lots of tactile and analog environments.

Tom Ekstrand

I've often wondered why no one ever reacts to Twin Peaks!

BangDroid

No fair! This comment made me lose 10 points

CJ Mars

I like George’s theory. By the time ya’ll make it to the end of Season 2, you’ll realize it’s even more sinister than that!

Ben from Tenn

Not at all into sci-fi stuff, even crazy highly rated stuff like this. Your channel is the only way I'd check out a show like this. Here goes nothin! I am interested to see Adam Scott though, he was fuckin awesome in Ripley on Netflix, black and white noir, one season, plays a con-man in Italy. Hope that one ends up on one of your polls. *Edit - Oops, 'Ripley' is Andrew Scott, my bad. I knew something was off

MacGuffinStuff

Holy shit I'm so into this. I dragged (or is the past tense, drug? Because I've also drugged my feet, and the rest of me, in service of severance, wow I just got crazy deja vu, for some reason that phrase sounds familiar, or is that a common phrase and I'm just having something like an acid flashback lol?), I was trying to avoid paying for Apple TV because the budget is getting really tight lately, but I had to check it out. Immediately relatable because I feel like I go through a similar process just to do my job, which I don't hate, but I don't really love either.

Katzchen1984

So the staircase thing wasn't magical or anything... her work self was leaving and once she stepped outside she regained her outside memories and she turned around and went back inside.... so from her work self perspective it was instant

Derrick C. Shields

I think it's really interesting that multiple people I've seen watch this show have reacted to the stairwell scene similar ways. Like it's the most mind-bending, confusing thing and magic has to be involved or something. Maybe it's the other content I've seen in the past that let me absorb the meaning easily, but I don't blame them, since there's something about that scene that seems to really confuse people.

Emil Aderskog

Honestly, their reaction to the stairwell scene was not "interesting" it was almost embarrassing. It's such a simple concept that's already been hammered home many times in the first episode, and still there is confusion? How?
