*Jumps up and down* Gosh, I love it here.

This is going to be the first thing I watch when I get home from work. Such a great movie! And we know how much Simone luvs the widdle critters! And with a movie that involves mothers, and fuzzy animals, and loss.... gonna be a weepy Simone Day! In a good way.

Kevin K.

The Wild Robot was written and directed by Chris Sanders (same guy behind Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, and How to Train Your Dragon) and it was phenomenal—definitely my favorite animated movie of 2024! Also, Pedro Pascal voices the fox, Mark Hamill the bear, Catherine O'Hara the opossum and Bill Nighy as Longneck! There are obviously a bunch of other voice actors who contributed but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I would also check out Flow (2024), that won the Oscar over this film. Also, if you want to see what directly inspired the aesthetics of Roz and company, Castle in the Sky (1986) by Studio Ghibli is the largest inspiration. I understand it is difficult to watch those films though.

I m a heating contractor. 250,000 min to for tear down. If reno 10,000 per square metres

No architecture need but engineers to start a project then municipal building code.

Sephanie Hsu, voice of the morally neutral squid robot, played Jobu Tupaku in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Thought you'd want to know. I first watched this movie about 24 hours ago and boy did I struggle to wait for your watch-along to see it a second time. Probably the best movie I've seen in the last ten years. Every single shot is like a painting, every second is so well spent, and the way they set up the stakes much higher than you expect from any animated family feature. And the cast, nothing but megastars, but they don't let them coast on fame, it's not like you recognize most of them, I think they don't even use those big names in the marketing. And the music. . .dang I want to watch it a third time now.

Theo Bracco

The plot can range from 25% to 100% of the price of a house, depending on the zone, the house built upon it, depending on the state can make up the rest. Some zones that are somewhat rundown or have a lot of derelict houses or other in general, get bought by companies, get torn down and semi-luxury/high luxury districts are built upon. One example in Buenos Aires was the old harbor area, a few companies formed a consortium and bought the land, tore down the old warehouses or gutted them and renovated the insides and left the outer facade and became the "new money" district, with high rises and luxury apartments.

Philipp Roensch

What a wonderful movie, so much fun at the cinema, but seen you also connect with the robot and critters is a joy. It certainly has something from Wall-E, but so much more about motherhood. Could have won an Oscar as well, Flow is maybe interesting on a different level, both are beautiful.

David Crabtree

You two should watch Transformers: One from 2024.

Simone puts the best movies on your schedule! This is one of the few films that make me ugly cry. It's fantastic!

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

What an interesting pre-movie discussion. I guess I just like listening to you guys :)

cheese bagel

i think ive finally figured out Simone and Georges speech pattern from the discussion in this video. George repeats himself a lot in the fear of being misunderstood. Simone never finishes her sentences in the fear of being misunderstood.

Mastervodo

This reaction was heckin' fantastic! As I knew it would be, having watched the movie last year and knowing what to expect. I don't think I've seen Simone so adoringly weepy in a reaction to a movie since Hatchi! If it wasn't tears (about 1/2 the movie, rivers, down the face), it was laughter, or wide-eyed wonder, or just BEAMING love at the screen over all the FLUFFY CUTENESS! I can honestly say, with no hyperbole, this is my new #1 favorite Cinebinge reaction, ever. And by now, I've watched hundreds of movies with you. Thank you, SO MUCH, for adding this movie to your library. I'm going to watch it again at least 2 more times this weekend. I am hoping this movie breaks into your own personal favorite top 10 movies of all time.

Odd Thomas

The Long Kiss Goodnight gets a 4k release next week; perfect time for a reaction!

Odd Thomas

Y'all still need to watch Short Circuit, which pretty much inspired every (friendly) robot movie made since.

akaTheBARON

Here's my dream. Buy a house that, on the outside, looks like an absolute shit hole. A house people driving by will wonder, "Why don't they just burn that POS down?" but on the inside it's MTV cribs. You only get that one-time shock value reveal per new person who you invite to your house over the years, but it's worth it. I'd even want to have a nice car or truck that I take into a body shop and be like "make the body look like a rusted piece of trash" so it's not weird when I drive a not shitty vehicle into the driveway LOL

Tom Hess

I think the robot is heavily inspired by the one from Miyazaki's "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (1986). Maybe a Ghibli film you guys should put on your watchlist soon (hint-hint, nudge-nudge)...

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Wonderful movie and really impressive like George said with how the story gets to the crux of the biscuit so efficiently. The animation, dark edge of its humour and the overall emotion it all generates is fantastic. Glad you both had a great time with it - love Simone’s reactions to the critters and the Brightbill arc as expected haha. I only saw this in theatres purely because of Chris Sanders and going in blind is absolutely best for this one 🤙🏻☺️

Raven Dark

So, coincidentally, I've been binge-watching your Breaking Bad reactions, and it was a first watch for me. In an episode I watched last night, Walt says to Saul, "Tell me one thing that is non negotiable," then George says, "I'm trying to think of something that's non-negotiable." Train of thought: George: I'm trying to think of something that's non-negotiable. Roz: Your life is *not* negotiable. It's funny that you, George, said he'd never heard of this film before Simone put it on the schedule, and not only because it's everywhere on reaction channels. Over the past few weeks, I recommended it in comments a few times, and as I said on another post, I was surprised none of your other Patreons were jumping on this one, because every other channel I sub to has been getting bombarded with requests for this movie until they do it. You guys seemed to be the only channel I saw that wasn't getting slammed with this one. So, anyway, I seemed to be the only one who brought it up here until a couple weeks ago. Then all of a sudden, on one of your Toy Story reactions, it seemed like every second comment suggested The Wild Robot. I saw them, and I was thrilled, hoping you guys would see the recs and become interested enough to watch it. And then this showed up on last week's list of movies! What's weird is, I thought that happened because of all the recs. Except you said you'd never heard of it until Simone put it on. Talk about a happy coincidence. Or maybe Simone did see the recs and just forgot? Well, in any case, this rection was everything I wanted and more. In fact, as soon as I saw it pop up, I did something I've only done one or two other times with a reaction--I watched it, then immediately watched it again. Absolutely flawless reaction, guys. Just like i knew it would be. It's rare that I say this, but for me, this is a perfect film. I am so glad you two loved it so much. Couple of quick recs: -The Croods -Finding Nemo -Wicked I rec The Croods and Finding Nemo because both are animated movies you guys would love (there is a character in the Dreamworks intro whom you guys were asking about, who it was, and she's from The Croods. That movie has Nicolas Cage as one of the voice actors, and he's great, but then, everyone in it is great. Oh, and both it and Finding Nemo have really great messages in them. And I rec Wicked because recently, you guys said you want more musicals, and that movie is fantastic.

mky

George, you could probably get Little Bill (from Unforgiven) to build you a house for cheap...but then you'll need to hire an actual construction company to fix it. 😜

FranciscoGios

I believe in today’s standards you need to save at least 6/8 million dollars if you want to build a house from the ground up, you can round that in Canadian currency.

Mark Alex Leach

I've never seen that many tears from Simone... or George either. Not from me, though - I'm an adult man and don't cry apart from a few now and then all the way through the movie. But I use man-size tissues, so those floods don't count.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Okay, okay, you got me with this one out of left field. I think this is this century's Bambi, with a fascinating modern twist, what is a soul, what does it mean to love and does an animal love (I think so) and can AI love (maybe? Programming = Instinct?) My mom took me to see Bambi in one of it's annual theater re-releases when I was like 8 and of course it broke me, and my mom having passed just a few years ago, well you get it. This was fantastic, glad I gave it a chance (the 96% on Rotten Tomatoes may have had an influence) but I do love stories like this and Iron Giant and Robot and Frank (and how Droids have personalities in the Star Wars galaxy) and of course a certain character in TNG I'm hoping to see you guys react to sooner than later.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Oh yeah, Matt Berry as the beaver, he's hilarious in the What We Do In The Shadows show, he and Mark Proksch (the idiot with the hummer and matching kicks in Better Call Saul) are so funny, the whole cast is but those two consistently have me rolling and in completely different ways. Meant to comment about the show when you guys watched the movie, which is so awesome, and I do recommend the show. Plus Matt Berry is great in the IT Crowd, if you get a chance to watch that, not necessarily for the channel but it's funny and noncommittal, perfect for when you just wanna watch something relatively light but really funny.

The price of building your own home will depend on the size of the home of course and location. In the US, middle class people have homes built all the time, very common. Tearing down a home to replace it with another is less common but still happens, again, cost would depend on size. For price, if you want to know how much it would cost to build something yourself. Get a quote from a contractor for what you want, and then subtract 30% off top and that is an estimate on how much the house would cost if you built it yourself. And many developers will sell their house blueprints so people can make changes and have it built themselves.

Mark Messer

Funny thing you mentioned that A113 easter egg. It shows up in every Pixar movie you guys have seen. For example, the license plate number in. Toy Story 1. A lot of people from both Pixar and DreamWorks went to that school together.

REDR58

Very nice reaction. The story of the Dreamworks Logo: https://www.fullmoon.info/en/blog/dreamworks-boy-moon.html In brief, the logo is modeled after William Hunt, the son of illustrator Robert Hunt who was commissioned by Steven Spielberg to design the logo. It is now known as “Moon Child.”

Raven Dark

Okay, last comment, I promise. If I remember correctly, you guys know Chandra and Jordan from Maplenuts, right? Considering how often I've heard Chandra say she loves cute things and heard her ask for more movies with that trope, I highly recommend you suggest they react to this. They would love it. Oh, also, another movie rec from me: -The Mitchells vs The Machines Make sure you check out the comment I made before this, or at least the end of it, where I left three other recs which have already been suggested by others on previous reactions.

It's my intention to move to Croatia (where I can get dual citizenship, due to my ancestry), and build a Roman Villa, using the same methods and techniques used by Romans back when they controlled the Dalmatian region. This includes Roman cement, which they have discovered the secret of and how to use it to make something which is incredibly long lasting and beautiful. In addition to the villa, I will also have a large worshop/artist's studio, and invite artists I know to come and spend time at the villa, make works, and display them in galleries across Croatia and Europe. 8 hectares of land in a really nice spot was listed recently for only $35k Australian dollars. That's a snip for how beautiful the country is. I can rent out my home here in Australia (for approx $750-$1kAUD per week) and build over there, keeping equity in one place, while creating it in another. As a lot of the cost will be from the labour, which I will take on myself, and probably workers whose wages aren't going to be that high, I'd expect being able to make something like this would be about $300-350AUD all up. If I moved to an island or closer to the coast, it would be much more expensive, and the land size smaller, but I don't feel that that will be all too necessary. I like my peace and quiet, and someplace inland near a wonderful lush forest would be perfect. If this comes to fruition, I'll invite you both Simone and George to come and stay in the Villa. Croatia is a beautiful place with so much to see and amazing food, I am sure you'd both love it.

Mike FromOz

The price for buying or building here in Australia is ridiculous, same as in Canada. Even more expensive in my city (Perth), because of the mining booms we are riding. My place, which totally isn't worth it, would command around a mil or so if I were to sell it. It's gone completely out of control. It's one of the reasons why I want to move to Croatia, as land isn't that expensive. The other is that I want to rekindle my ancestral roots, and also have access to Europe and it's massive art gallery strength compared to the lackluster environment over here in Australia.

Amar

I highly recommend watching "Flow" which came out around the same time as this movie. It was made on Blender editing software and it won an Oscar, once in a lifetime filmmaking feat!!

WalrusWallace

Yes! I'm not a big Transformer fan nor am I clear on the lore, but I watched it with some friends to pass the time and it blew us away. Wonderful film

WalrusWallace

Yes I agree. Please consider reacting to these 3 movies. They're great! Finding Nemo is one of my favorites

Marc Galanin

Never cried more in a movie than thi, they did this right

Den Radar Ryan

Glad to have someone to watch this with. Well kinda. Anyway, cool! 🙃🎧🤘📺

Damn, was not expecting this movie to be this good... been a long time since a movie hit me in the feels like this. Wow.

For building from scratch, you might find this playlist interesting. Curiosity Inc. was an antiques and collectibles store in Edmonton. The owner, Alexander, grew up very poor, like living in a car with his family for a while, no toys poor, and started salvaging junk, selling things, and built his way up to having a toy store in the West Edmonton Mall for a while with his wife, then his own place, then a beautiful store he owned, converting an old general store back to an old-timey feel. He's done really amazing house clear-outs, from some surprisingly interesting people who passed (he would buy the entire house and then start selling, cleaning, donating a ton, etc.). They lived in the suburbs for a long time, and through the channel, finally made enough money to design their dream home. It's pretty big. He also does car restorations, so he has a big, attached garage now. Anyway, this playlist is the whole build, and you learn about all the architect stuff, meet the builder a few times, and follow through how it all came together. George could follow this plan, and achieve his dream of living in Edmonton! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsSVlavDgmE&list=PLHs6JH9ueConhD5xe5oJ7Tqi-EFA_sKmR&ab_channel=CuriosityIncorporated

So my sister a had a house built in Pueblo, Colorado for a little more than $150,000. And it was a four bedroom, three bath with a finished basement and an attached 2 car garage and this was at the peak of the housing market before the bubble burst in 2008. I don't know what the housing market is like now there but that's how much it cost. It was also in a new development on the good side of Pueblo apparently.

Gary Fixler

I'm surprised, with all his knowledge of Greek mythology, George doesn't just buy a run-down house, and keep replacing boards and things as they wear out, until he can no longer tell if it's technically still the same house.

Gary Fixler

Just finished the movie, and came here to plug the IT Crowd, at least season 1 and the first episode of season 2!

A Möbius strip has no inside or outside

So not counting the price for the plot of land, you need to consider material costs, utility costs, time, and income. A large part of your cost will go into your foundation, assuming you are going for a concrete pour foundation. If you go with something more akin to the Japanese style foundation, you would take gravel and a filler and compact it with a hammer of some kind, then build your structure on it making it raised. Next is your lumber, insulation, plumbing, wiring, heating, connection to utilities etc. There are people who have built homes relatively economically, but the thing is it takes a crapload of time. You substitute the time and expertise of others for pieces of green paper. There are always ways of making things cheaper, but you’ll still run a lot; it wouldn’t necessarily be in the millions. It obviously can be, but that is not a guarantee. Also I’m not in construction, I just have an enthusiasm for understanding things

Brandon

I'm not even sure I heard of this movie before it showed up on your "Next Week" list, but it turned out pretty good. I don't know what it is about movies made for a young audience, but we as adults usually assume worse things will happen to the characters than actually comes to pass. Or maybe that's just me...😅 The 'cute talking animals' trope in animated movies is something that gets made fun of a lot, even in Fight Club, where Tyler splices single frames from porn into these movies. I like that this one actually gave an explanation at the start to have that trope make sense. That was Matt Berry as the Beaver. I've said it elsewhere in these comments, but he's pretty much the funniest person alive. I'm hoping you guys eventually add 'What We Do in the Shadows' as one of those shows you watch in-between seasons of something else.

Marc Galanin

You know for protecting the whole island we k ow the storm killed most of the raccoons. There would never fit them all in that little house

Brien Kliver

The average cost to build a house in the USA in 2025 is around $323,000 to $428,000 for a single-family home, excluding land. This equates to roughly $150 to $162 per square foot for a 2,000 to 2,600-square-foot home. Costs vary widely based on location, materials, labor, and customization. For example, building in southern states like Mississippi or Arkansas can be as low as $135,000, while high-cost states like Hawaii or California can exceed $400,000. Land, permits, and site preparation add significant expenses, potentially $50,000 to $200,000 or more, depending on the lot and region. -Grok
