Netflix just released something that you guys must watch. Adolescence (2025). Only 4 episodes. It's incredible.

Michael Haug

I had planned to watch this along with you two as I had never seen it. After the first 4 episodes I lost all patience and I have now seen every episode. Guess I'm watching it again.

8bitAndy

I feel like if every character Christopher Walken ever played was named Christopher Walken nobody would have a problem with that.

cincassette

The final three episodes of the season... next week is gonna be amazing!!!

maikeru

Would be better if you watched 3 episodes in a row (3 episodes for each video) then you wouldn´t have to wait as much to find out what´s going on. (I know you´re gonna watch the last 3 episodes in a row next week)

robodong

why stop at 3 then? lol every episode ends in cliff hanger so that logic applies to 4 or 5 or just watch the entire series in 1 sitting. in fact, why are they even sleeping, just sit and watch 24/7! what even is personal life schedule and exhaustion in the face of our entertainment amirite?

maikeru

chill^^ I don´t mind them doing 2 ep each vid, it was just a thought. You´re not wrong, it´s just that they´d find out things a bit faster. (the main reason I had that thought is bc there are 9 episodes.. I wouldn´t have said it if there were 8 or 10)

Opti_Frog

Patricia Arquette kind of disappeared from my radar after the 90s, but back then she was in a couple of my favourite ever movies (Ed Wood, Lost Highway). But i have never seen her be as good as she is in Severance. Zealotry and unpredictability = scary.

Jeff I.

I just suggested Adolescence last night on their last movie poll after binging it yesterday. It's so dang good! One of the most heartbreaking final scenes I've ever seen in a show. And it's only four episodes, so it'd just take two weeks. :-)

maikeru

I like her also in the Medium series.

akaTheBAY-AY-RON

George making that post about how we're all adults and we're not owed instant gratification makes me feel the need to be honest... I started my watch-along of this show, like you two, as a first time watch through. But it is with a heavy heart that I have to come clean and confess that I have been cheating on you two this last week and I have all but blown through most of the series :( I will of course still be watching (rewatching I guess) along with these reactions, but I just wanted you both to know I'm a weak weak man, and I have NO self control...

ShōNuff3K

Clearly, Ricken is hung.

REDR58

Regarding all the empty spaces and rooms, in an earlier episode there was mention of future expansion. I think Mark said so to Helly when he was first showing her around.

Alex

Hide and seek episode name is related to the boy counting and Dylan hiding in the closet when his innie was switched on.

Inkpendude

10 EPISODES PER WEEK

Liuzetz

Your concerns are very valid about the questions and answers and as Mark says: the work is misterious and important Personally, I love that they are taking their time with giving answers but they are giving us the pieces of the answers throughout the episodes thus far. It is not clear yet the purpose of everything but it is starting to connect the engines that will drive this discovery further. Harmony Cobel is soooooo unsettling. You never know what she will do and she does it all with such a blank dead stare that is soooo unhinged and creepy. Arquete is killing it. I also absolutely love Milchik's bright smile with crazy eyes. It is supposed to be nice and welcoming but it is super threatening and full of controlled anger. It is really amazing facial expression by the actor. This combo of episodes brings a lot of new stuff, the culty vibe, the goats, the switch, Ms Casey, Dylan's family, Irv and the O&D visit....so much to unpack and it is so damn surprising.

jay

Words cannot describe my excitement for next weeks post!

Michael L.

I admit, I cheated: the show was compelling enough that I had to go and watch it ahead of you guys.

2026-09-05 05:00 Notice that Angelo Arteta is identified as “Angelo Arteta (PE)” in the newspaper (“Kier Chronicle”) article when Devon was researching the wife. In the US, when senators are mentioned in a news article, sometimes you see the abbreviation of the US state they represent. For example, Senator Mark Kelley from Arizona would be written, “Mark Kelly (AZ).” There is no US state or territory abbreviated “PE” (Pennsylvania is abbreviated “PA”). So what, and where is “PE”? Questions, questions…

So far, Milchick (the head guy who wanders around the severed floor), Cobel/Selvig and the security guy Doug Graner appear to be fully conscious of the severed and unsevered environments, in and out of the company. Remember, Graner came to see Selvig/Cobel at her home to discuss Reghabi and Milchick visited Dylan G.'s outie persona at the home with the child and spoke into a radio/phone telling someone to hit the switch.

REDR58

Oh and George it's not uncommon to have motion-controlled lights even in businesses which are far busier than Lumon's severed floors appear to be. For example, Target has motion-controled lights in the grocery section of its stores, at least in the US.,

Urbanform

Hope you guys do The Last of Us season 2(April 13) live or atleast within the same time frame.

Urbanform

Simone is on the right track. Her innie is really working overtime.

Helly R

7, 8 and 9 is a helluva triple.

Flerb

first time watching with y'all. I've been thinking about the old "Chinese room" thought experiment from philosophy, where essentially Lumen is not training an AI but actually IS a conscious mind itself, run by the smaller minds of the individuals within, who merely deal with inputs and outputs.

probablyKoi

Nah George, your version of Simone's Buffy is Simpsons - but we love both of them so it's fine

Crawnch!

For your own guys’ sanity I highly suggest you watch the next episode by itself and then do the last two together or do all three in one sitting. If you try to do the next two together and the finale separate, you will explode.

Ari Ramirez

Always excited for Severance tuesdays. Severuesdays, if you will.

JohnB

About the light tracking in the hallway. I don't know if anyone else noticed it, but when Mark was following behind Helly in the hallway the lights were tracker her but not him. They turned off as he got to that area. Intentional or a filming goof?

Divinerights

I’m really glad you guys are enjoying the show!

Helly R

They're doing all 3 next week.

Crawnch!

Heard that at the very end. Can’t wait!

REDR58

Simone and George you are both so curious about the goats, did you recall seeing any images of goats in the artwork seen in the show thus far? If not, go back and see if you can find those depictions…

dys

For some reason I thought you were really not supposed to have coffee during pregnancy so that got me wondering if it was some meaningful detail of this weird setting that everyone thought it was fine... but looking it up it is fine to have 1-2 cups a day.

mky

Simone and (especially) George, I can only suggest that you trust that the filmmakers know what they're doing. Don't stop askiing questions, sure, but try as much as possible to enjoy the ride as you experience the show. Basically...don't give up, and try not to get frustrated, even when you're in the dark. Anyway...cheers!

CD

So...I've seen the show, many times now. Re-watched twice "on my own", and with a handful of my fav reactors when they did it (although only FULL watch-alongs with G + S). So...as we all know...you've got to contain your frustrations, for others not "getting it"...because you weren't 100% there the first time you watched either. But the one thing I can never understand, that many/most reactors don't get...and this goes for CB, at least at the beginning of e5...is this whole idea of "why would your Outie keep coming back"?? Well...why wouldn't they; they don't know your INNIE hates it. They don't know, your INNIE co-worker tried to unalive herself, etc. As far as the Outie is concerned, everything is fine. You just got your hand banged up, changing out the water jug!

Pendergasted

I was a first time viewer for episodes 1-4. I'll now be a second time viewer for all the rest. It was way too difficult to not binge this series.

RabidMango

Rewatching the first season it's wild to me how much little things from season one are important and leading to season 2. Personally, the answers I demand get answered. But there are also more questions...'cause the show's not done yet. I also have a personal priority to visual/audio stimulation and this show is second to none. On top of that, I tend to prioritize emotionality and this show delivers. I enjoy a good gasp, and a good cry. Also it's just unique, at least to me. It's my favorite show on right now.

Erik Brown

The one thing that jumped out at me on the Hide and Seek episode (this was my second watch) that you guys didn't comment on is when Dillon's outie was in the closet with Milchick and he asked Dillon if he smuggled the card out suggests that there isn't a message detector that handles images, if detecting messages is real at all.

Onikaze

for the Senator(I think senator, the rich couple) if he had severed his wife full time then why bother severing her again for the labor?

Inkpendude

Something Egan I bet

Opti_Frog

I looked at her IMDb page, and i think Medium is a big reason why she vanished from my radar, because i would never watch that show. 😅

Opti_Frog

With a ribbed shaft and rotating head. It's the only explanation.

Jacob King

Hide and Seek was written by Amanda Overton (Arcane show-runner) . An interesting aspect of the severed workers is they’re not really indoctrinated in the worship of Kier they just don’t have any alternatives. There’s no enforced worship or ritual. Irving is really into the handbook but that’s largely on his initiative. It’s the non-severed workers who exhibit signs of being in a cult. Just cause Buffy was mentioned I’ll point out that Joss Whedon made a series called Dollhouse that was very different but had a similar premise. Dichen Lachman (Miss Casey) was one of the leads.

ShōNuff3K

Wow! I just found out! If you squint during the opening sequence, it gives secrets away.

ShōNuff3K

...also, 🧇🥳🤯

ShōNuff3K

I'm cool as long as they all aren't just existing in purgatory.

ShōNuff3K

This needs to be on a T-shirt.

Jon Johns

Or twin peaks. I remember the drive to talk about theories each week, and the befuddled looks on our faces during each episode.

Jon Johns

I think the wife chooses it?

Jon Johns

Amazing catch!!!

Jon Johns

I missed why Mark s's hand is banged up on the severed floor? What happened?

Jon Johns

"Planet" Egan? 🤣

Jon Johns

I prefer to think he is caring, and generous. 😛👅😜🛶🌮😺

Jon Johns

"Smiley guy's name" you'll remember. Oh, you'll remember!

CD

They cut from Mark in the break room, to him on a date with Alexa (the Midwife)...where his knuckles are red and scraped. Alexa asks him about it, and he says he "evidently" did it changing out a water bottle. The implication, of course...is that it happened in the break room.

Ari Ramirez

Kinda, this one's got way better talent attached to it

s0rd3z

What a great show. I did not expect the "escalation" in these episodes. It really felt like more a slow burn previously and now things are just weird af. I'm still sure there are more than just two personalities and I'm with Simone one of the severed characters prime ego is going to be on the board or something. Also Dylan prime seems the exact opposite of what his innie thinks he is like, family man, 9-5'er. Definitely not a riverboat'ing Milf lover. There is one meme of this show I have seen. It gives no context (just people dancing to Meshuggah) and I can't wait to see what the F that is all about lol

Divinerights

Literally. It’s a job that pays, and a company this size probably pays well. For mark at least, there’s subsidised housing.

gfixler

It's cool seeing the hallway that lights up as you walk. I wanted to do that years ago. I saw a light somewhere that would light up when you waved your hand in front of it, and I have a long hallway. I wanted to tile both sides in floor-to-ceiling lights that would only be on when something was exactly in front of them, and then as I walked down the hall, there would be a lit version of me on both sides of me, following my movements. It sounds kinda dumb now that I'm writing it out...

gfixler

I used to listen to that whole Frou Frou album while coding in python at work. It put my mind in another place, and let the code flow. I love Immi.

gfixler

I worry, because I feel like I've been here many times before, like with Lost, Heroes, Stephen King's The Stand, Game of Thrones... dragged on and on, with tiny, weird reveals like this, and so much interest and hope, and then it falls flat at the end.

RabidMango

I've been cool with the answers given so far. I'm also invested in the characters and the emotionality which satisfies me plenty. My roommate isn't like me in that he watches things much more clinically. He's mathematical. He wants to see that 1 + 1 = 2 and isn't the type that's gonna shed a tear because he sees a character dealing with trauma or emotions. I guess I'm just saying these types of shows work for some people and not for others. I loved both season endings. I understand that others are like, "Yah, but what about _____." My roommate is confounded that the equation isn't solvable yet and I'm on the side of the couch drying a tear in an existential crisis.

gfixler

Well, then I will try to watch it while being more than the sum of my parts.

beefjerkywizard

If the Ashley Judd movie the Buffy podcast was talking about was Double Jeopardy, you two should definitely check it out. Also, it's been great rewatching season 1 with you two

Marylou inProgress

Burt and Irving are so goddamn cute around each other and I need for them to somehow both successfully un-sever and live on a nice little farm and raise baby goats together. That is all, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Marylou inProgress

I was weak and gave up after the first two xD it's just SO compelling. But I'm having so much fun rewatching these. And I'm waiting until after next week to watch any of season 2.

REDR58

It’s funny, you mentioned a light up walkway, because that immediately brought to mind the old music video from Michael Jackson’s Billie, Jean song! https://youtu.be/Zi_XLOBDo_Y?si=C4dh_ueUVNoqZHkT And as an aside, in my house, I have a bunch of smart lights and motion sensors so when we go from room to room, the lights come on in the room we enter and shut off after a minute in the room we’ve left. So we kind of have Severance lights in our house! 😄

REDR58

As far as dancing, you may be referring to MDE… Which you will see next week!

Opti_Frog

FROM is much more Lost (and imo better than Lost). Twin Peaks is so singular that i find it hard to really compare it to anything else. The 1st and 3rd seasons of Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me, are the surreal masterpieces of two generations.

So when Mr. Graner orders Mark to go up the elevator, something bugged me: I'm not a neuroscientist but the brain isn't simply a complex series of electronic connections between neurons. I buy into the idea that the severance chip separates one's mind into two separate boxes of memories, but in a crisis situation like Mark experienced here when the chip switches him from his Innie to his Outie his brain will still be flooded with adrenaline and other chemicals produced in this heavy emotional state. Outie Mark may instantly forget the incident but he will awake in a panic with his fight-or-flight response triggered, in a cold sweat but with no knowledge of why.

james repka

So being severed in order to eliminate the tedium of work from your life is clearly an odd concept. But now we've met a woman who has apparently severed herself just to avoid the pain of childbirth. For the MDR refiners it seems like they are just suddenly born into a life as adults with no knowledge of the world. They are children mentally who are alive for ~2000 hours per year, all of it at work, with no meals but what comes from a snack machine, no sleep, etc... they're slaves, since they do the work and never get the benefits. They have nothing resembling workplace rights and no one to report mistreatment to who is not their employer. As bad as that might sound, imagine being suddenly born into a world as an adult woman in labor and being just conscious for as long as it takes to give birth. Then suddenly awakening in the exact same situation and experiencing birth, again and again, for as many times as your Outie chooses to have children. Then substitute for childbirth any activity that you might prefer not to experience in your life, either because of tedium or pain. The possibilities are absolutely creepy.

D. T. Nelson

The goat room is clearly there because one of the board members has a real fondness for goat meat jollof rice or perhaps Caribbean goat curry.

gfixler

Nice! The entire back half of my long house is TP-Link bulbs and Tapo light strips. I converted a moon lamp to use a bulb, so it can be a low orangey white most of the time, but also turn red on trash night as a reminder, and blue when it rains, which is always exciting, because I love the rain. I don't have anything witness me passing through rooms, but I have routines I can turn on via voice (like work mode and movie mode in my office), and lots of things, including seasonal decorations that follow schedules. The biggest downside is when there's a power outage, even just a brownout for a second, the entire back of the house lights up like the Griswold house, and I have to run around turning everything off, because the Wi-Fi is always then out for 15 minutes, trying to reconnect, so I can't just tell it to turn everything back off in one fell swoop.

m

Infinitely more reasonable than the "it's just weird, evil corporate shenanigans for weird, corporate shenanigans' sake"-take on the show. At like episode two (at the latest), I feel like all you can do is accept that you preconceptions are pretty much worthless and you're very much dealing with a blackbox situation - thematically and metanarratively. For the most part, I think TV and Film's Occam's Razor is "it's gotta be engaging and not trite to be entertaining," and "they're just torturing people for the sake of clandestine revenue" seems so boring, it just has to be a big fat red herring. But yeah, there is lots hinting at cognitive abstraction being the theme for what is actually happening here. That or some weird, weird reality TV.

Damian

I think they were showing off in Season 2 (in a good way) - some of the compositions of the shots were just so beautiful and creative - no spoilers, obviously, but we can discuss more when CB get round to watching them.

Damian

Are you roommates with George? 😀

Damian

Understood, I hope the ending is satisfying. They say they know how it ends which is a good sign. I was completely obsessed with LOST and it went beyond the show e.g. official podcasts explaining the show when that wasn’t a thing, and lots of pre-season puzzles on the internet. The final season answered enough questions for me, but I know a lot of people didn’t the feel the same way. Someone [citation needed] said that these mystery box shows, especially those grounded in reality, are like magic tricks. When you see someone produce a card out of thin air, or produce the card I was thinking of, then that is amazing. But when you see the solution where they were just palming a card, or a bit of misdirection then it is difficult to be as satisfying as the trick was awesome. So, enjoy the journey, enjoy the magic, and hopefully the ending shouldn’t retroactively take that enjoyment away from you. I will recommend Dark as a show which is amazing all the way through including the ending.

s0rd3z

Yup that was it :)

Lumon Industries feels like the shows version of Scientology. I saw a documentary once about Scientology and I'm seeing similarities. Probably no secret there. My favorite thing about the show is how Helly R innie is different from her outie. Helly R the cult leader's heir and her innie doesn't like it the whole situation and wants to bring it down. I assume you're liking the show. It was odd you were complaining about the writing at the end.
