Yay! Been looking forward to this. I love sillier, lighter, movies too.

Emily G

Oh you guys should watch Rat Race (2001) or The Producers (2005 version) I really think you guys would like them ❤️

Brandon

Apparently James Gunn confirmed that this was going to be an R rated movie at one point. The screenplay was written that way and scenes were shot with alternate dialogue to reflect it. Then the studio changed their minds and wanted it reworked into a PG version. I doubt the R rated version will ever see the light of day, but a guy can dream...

Lol never thought five minutes into Scooby Doo I’d hear about porn subtitles and vaginas everywhere 🤣🤣 Never change, legends As for fond memories, I was passing through Brisbane Airport on holiday the day they filmed the reuniting scene in Queensland. I had no idea what was going on (was only 13) but the commotion of people in Buffy outfits running to the terminal and Mystery Machine posters being specially available should have given something away haha. The sequel is also fun and evokes the original cartoons a good deal more than this one

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

There’s a deleted scene of a possessed Velma that really gives a good hint of what it could have been before the change-up. Really one of those “what-ifs” for sure

Freddy Prinz Jr and Sarah Michelle Geller were both in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" from 1997. They married in 2002.

Grumples

So is this how we get them to watch the Mr. Bean movie?

Bmac Tattoo

Orgazmo is a crazy funny movie from the South Park creators.

REDR58

I’ve no doubt the subtitles are there for people who maybe hard of hearing and want to be able to see what the performers are saying. Because you know some people are stimulated by what’s being said…. That’s enough.

RabidMango

Finally! The movie I've been waiting for!

REDR58

The only Scooby Doo series I watched as a kid (I was born in the early 1970s) wqs 1969’s “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” which originally ran for 3 seasons and has been endlessly replayed. Intro to Season 1: https://youtu.be/hTq6nwO4oJU?si=x6yEB1FiY43B2-jy

Scrappy is from the cartoon and was voted the most hated Scooby-Doo character of all time. Daphne and Fred's relationship is only slightly implied in the original cartoon. Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are cowards motivated by there stomachs.

lovemoose

I recommend Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. I love the animation style in that movie.

robodong

imagine being someone who got so worked up over this silly little film that you got banned 🤦‍♂️ like did all that anger still feel justified?

Cincassette

Have you guys ever watched the original British "Mr Bean" series from the 90s? There are only 14 Episodes of about 25 minutes each. They're all excellent and a lot of fun, and would make for a great reaction in case either or both of you hasn't watched it before!!

djKENTO

Probably because it was the first time WB let anime directors do a SD movie. Hiroshi Aoyama who did a bunch of Marvel Anime, an episode of PLUTO (highly recommend on Netflix) and Kazumi Fukushima who is OLD SCHOOL and worked on Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and Super Dimension Century Orguss which is the sequel to Macross. They both put soooo much into it.

Ste Rawlings

The Scooby Doo porn subtitle reading is the reason i subscribe to this channel!

Ste Rawlings

Scooby Doo is banned in China but only because they downloaded the wrong version too.

Brandon

I remember thinking "I hope they never give us Scrappy Doo" only for him to be the villain. 🤣 It's a great idea, though since almost nobody ever liked that character. I remember seeing Scrappy for the first time and being put off by him even then. The way he changed the dynamic of the group was awful. As a kid I felt like I was being pandered to, even though I didn't know how to verbalize it with words like that. Poochie from The Simpsons is based on several examples of this, but IMO Scrappy Doo is the closest thing to a real Poochie.

Odd Thomas

Another good Sarah Michelle Gellar film: Southland Tales. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a good one to watch after Scooby Doo...

I kinda get what Simone means when we first see Daphne and Simone says, "She's definitely not Buffy." At the time this came out, the show Buffy was a massive hit, and most people only new Geller from Buffy. In that show, Buffy is a lot of things, but a helpless damsel is *not* one of them. If fact, that's part of the point of the show. The showrunner has actually said that when he came up with the concept of Buffy, the idea was (paraphrasing here, because I don't remember his exact words), "The famous trope is a pretty, helpless blond going into an alleyway and being attacked by a monster. Well, what if the blond kicked the monster's ass?" People would have become so used to seeing Geller as Buffy that seeing her act helpless would throw you for a bit of a loop. Which is why it's doubly funny when Daphne turns all martial arts Matrixy and kicks the one bad guy's butt. It's a Buffy joke, but it's also having fun with the origin of how Buffy happened. And yes, I do know Joss Wheden (Buffy's creator) is a terrible person. I hate having to give him credit for such a wonderful part of TV history, but it is what it is. Also, I'm fairly certain there was no relationship between Daphne and Fred on the show, but I feel like it's one of those things a lot of people wished for, and there were times where it seemed like there might be something there. So the movie was giving a bit of fan service to them by having them kiss here. This movie is just a silly, stupid fun romp, and I'm glad you guys liked it. Sometimes we want a good, deep, moving film to watch, but sometimes we need a movie where we can just shut our brains off for a while. I'm happy that you guys got to do that for an hour and a half. Especially with some of the heavier fare you've got coming next week. Really enjoyed the reaction.

Michael Green

SLC Punk! is a great Matthew Lillard film you should watch sometime

Morion Williams

probably is about the human characters, but only one way to find out.

Lucy Severine

I'd say while I personally enjoy this film and its sequel (I prefer the sequel) a lot, it's a *bit* parodic. I really would give a couple of the animated films a go if you want to *really* understand why they're such a beloved team. Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost and Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island in particular, are two standalone animated films that are just. Incredibly good, and do so much to sell you on the concept.

Lucy Severine

Matthew Lilard is a perfect cast for Shaggy, though. There will never be a better live action Shaggy lol

Skyruff

These two will absolutely love "John Dies at the End" (2012)

dys

The 60's cartoon stayed on air forever so it (the original, but also the various later iterations) was a staple of my childhood even growing up in the 90's.

FranciscoGios

I looked it up and Scrappy Doo is actually Scooby Doo’s nephew. I did watch their cartoons show for a while, but once I found out most of their “scary” characters were always getting caught I lost interest. I would recommend Cruel Intentions from 1999, another Sarah Michelle Gellar; I won’t be surprised if Simone has already watched it.

BigGuy209

yeah, Scooby Doo, where are you? Is one of the first cartoons I remember really watching as a kid growing up in the 90s & all of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons even though most of those cartoons came out in the 60s. I would love to see you too react to a few episodes like you did with The Simpsons I think that would be cool. now you guys gotta watch The Flintstones (1994) movie.

BigGuy209

YES! SLC Punk that movie does not get reacted to very much. I would love to see those two react to that movie.

Daniel Simmons

Yes, you should definitely watch some episodes of "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" I also HIGHLY recommend "Scooby Doo on Zombie Island". In the cartoons, Scrappy was Scooby's nephew and was a VERY annoying character. He debuted in "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" in the 1979.

Skyruff

For some reason Hanna-Barbra used Asian naming conventions for Scoody Doo. His cousins are named Scooby Dumb and Scooby Dee. When Scoody Dee had a pup she named it after Scooby Doo so it was called Scrappy Doo taking the father's family name.

Skyruff

This movie almost all the classic tropes of the original Scooby Doo shows except one. The Scooby Doo hallway chase scene where the camera stays in place looking at a hallway with lots of doors while the gang gets chased by the monster in and out of each door mostly in a random way with a musical number.

DM DC

Fun, fun reaction. Haven't seen this movie in quite some time. I really do miss the old cartoon. It was always a blast. It has been a while since I've seen the cartoon. But if I recall correctly Fred wasn't actually that egotistical. But the movie is fun non-the-less. Matthew as Shaggy is just gold. Loved his performance. Scrappy Doo is in the original though I don't recall when he made his initial appearance. To my recollection that character was not well liked among fans. But I could be remembering wrong. I myself wasn't a fan of Scrappy. I always found him a bit annoying.

Alexander Brown

The general modus operandi for Scooby Doo, at least until recently, was that the shows were always real people/explainable, and the movies were supernatural.

Dale Smith

If you guys are up for it I would say do a reaction to Scooby Doo on zombie island, it's arguably the best animated scooby doo movie :)

PeppermintWizardOfAus

I’ve been to the Island where they filmed this movie many times, Tangalooma resort on Moreton Island in Queensland Australia. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to and I love going every few years

MD Simmons

You’re definitely going to want to watch at least two or three episodes if you ever plan on seeing the second movie. It’s almost needed before viewing

Simon Peened Me

I grew up watching Scooby Do, Where Are You? I loved it on its own, but also for the lesson it taught me about horror movies—no matter how terrifying a monster is, you don't have to worry, because in the end, it's just some asshole in a mask. I can't tell you how comforting that was to the timid little kid I was. As I got older, two things dawned on me: 1. Daphne and Fred were a couple. When the team split up, they always seem to be together. Jokingly, it was "Velma, why don't you, Shaggy, and Scoob check the basement. Daphne and I will check the master bedroom." 2. Shaggy and Scoob were presumed high at most times. They were constantly hungry because they had the munchies.

Colin Ybarra

My first exposure to Scooby-Doo was The New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show, which only featured Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, and Daphne as the main crew. Since I was four years old at the time and I thought that man + woman = married, I assumed that Shaggy and Daphne were a husband and wife, and that assumption persisted for a long time. I remember being in Scooby-Doo AOL chatrooms in the 90s where people would say "I think Freddy and Daphne are in love," and I would think they were fools because obviously Daphne was married to Shaggy.

Allen Pass

This was the best movie I've ever seen.

Matt88g

freddie prinze jr met sarah michelle gellar co starring in “i know what you did last summer” 1997

The Maestro

most of the episodic stuff was just some guy in a mask but the feature length stuff went into supernatural

This porn parody thing is funny, as my girlfriend at the time we were watching True Blood and then we stumbled upon the porn parody of True Blood... and funny thing was, the porn parody was actually closer to the actual books somehow. When the ratings started dipping, they brought Scrappy into the mix and even dropped Fred and Daphne. As a kid at that time, I did like Scrappy, but as I got older I did start to find him annoying, so I though the turn in this movie was great. They also have some episodes, I think they were called the The New Scooby-Doo Movies, where they would team up with others to solve crime, like real life comedians, musicians, and other cartoon characters... like Batman and Robin.
