Bust the deal, face the wheel!!!

Richard

Out of all the older Max Max films , this ones my favourite.

“This place is great! Fresh water, a monkey…” Never change, Simone.

Kurt Hockenbury

The other reason this one is goofier/lighter tone is they went for a PG-13 rating, instead of R, chasing a larger audience.

Darin Foat

I wish you guys hadn't read the tagline on the poster. The reveal of the lost tribe of children is so much more fun when you don't know it's coming.

Mike FromOz

Yeah, I noticed that back when I went to see it at the cinema as a kid. The second one scared the absolute shit out of me (saw it way too young on video), and this one felt more toned down and inclusive to a bigger audience. It's goofier, but it does have its moments.

Sometimes I wish they never see the posters at all

One day cock of the walk…. The next a feather duster…

Part of the second stage of her career revival. Which also led to a Bond theme.

I was going to suggest that very video! I mean... if Simone wants beefcake..... I always loved the sax solo in that song.

I thought Tina Turner did a pretty good job in this movie, considering she's a singer, not an actress.

Happy Hanukkah

I love that song! 🎵 Highway to the Thunderdome! Ride into the Thunderdome!

Mark McConnell

I remember being so disappointed in this movie when it came out. I was a huge fan of the two previous films, especially The Road Warrior. It’s why i was happy when Fury Road came out. It felt like a natural sequel/retelling of Road Warrior. And yes I know Road Warrior isn’t its real title.

Lycowolf

I don't know if someone has mentioned it yet, but if you wanna see the origin of this wasteland post apocalypse aesthetic came from watch "A Boy and his Dog". Mad Max, Fallout, etc., were inspired it. It came out 5 years before the first Mad Max.

Paul T Hewes

Miller's best friend, Byron, died during pre-production. The whole tone of the movie was changed by his grief.

rictus grin

not my favourite mad max movie it just feels a touch too Hollywood compared to the others.

Matthew Maxon

That theme song was a jam in it's time!

Kyle B

It's interesting how Fury Road and Furiosa have a much brighter color pallet, but the world somehow seems even more hostile to life than the earlier movies.

Mr Mafuchi

Since you guys don’t know anything about Tina Turner, take a moment to watch her Documentary movie “What’s Love Got to do With It”. Available on Hulu, right now… 😉

Alec Picard

The Mad Max movies are just what’s happening in Australia during the events of the Fallout game series.

I was a little disappointed and surprised that you guys didn't like this more. Since you opened by talking about being overtired, I did wonder if your lack of sleep and tiredness contributed to missing so many details you complained about. For me, I love the tone in this one -- yes, it's got moments of lightness, but the humor is pretty bleak. There's still plenty of darkness. This remains up there with Mad Max: Fury Road as my favorite of the series, honestly. I love the combination of action and myth, and the expansion of the worldbuilding into something truly epic. And how the gorgeous score and action support that. The cinematography, direction, and action are all typically superb, and I love the performances -- while I loathe Mel as a person, he's great here as always as Max, and Tina Turner is a terrific antagonist. Her character is fascinating -- it's like someone who grew up in the dregs of Vegas trying to build their own village after an apocalypse. As far as why Auntie spares Max, she does so because she's not really an evil person. She's a ruthless pragmatist, and no she's not a GOOD person, but she's done all of the things she does in order to try to survive and help Bartertown to survive, even if what she built ended up being corrupt. It was interesting that you disliked the latter part of the film when for me that's when the movie truly kicks into gear. The action and stunts are amazing, as always with George Miller, and I love that the story zigs so hard into Max's escape and discovery of the lost children (and love the way the score blossoms into woodwinds and new themes), and the way the kids have created their own history and myth and expectation of salvation. The last quarter of the movie demonstrates the dangers of wanting more than paradise, while also showing the reluctant compassion that is so much a part of Max's character. The kids are all fascinating and endearing, and the final chase is seriously one of the best ever put on film (Roger Ebert raved about it). For me, the movie takes a huge amount of risks and succeeds. I'll always think it was a great way to end the Gibson Max era. And I especially appreciated that there were so many homages to this film in Mad Max: Fury Road (there are tons of little homages there including the hair cutting and saving, the Thunderdome cage in the Brides' quarters, the way Scrooloose's white makeup and black eyes became the War Boys, etc.
