Raging Bull is the most realistic boxing movie both inside and outside the ring

Matt O'Keefe

I knew Simone would be looking destroyed in the thumbnail. I saw this with my dad and my brother in the theatre. We were all silent after the movie.

jmundt33a

Speaking of Jay of the unpronounceable last name, has anyone suggested that they watch She’s Out of My League?

Michael Haug

George doing all these emotional movies lately because they're easy edits for the thumbnail?

Adam

The Hurricane would be a good reaction. It stars Denzel Washington. It's a true story about the boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter

2026-09-05 05:00 First we find out Simone isn't Chinese. Now we learn that George isn't British? This whole channel is a lie.

It was left to me to take my mom off the machines at the end of her life. This movie crushed me the first time I watched it and this time. A movie I'll never watch again. 10/10

m0lika1 .

Another great fight movie (not boxing but mma) is Warrior. Id love to see it on a future poll

Toy Story 3 was the nostalgic loss of childhood cry and Million Dollar Baby is just…..brutal. Great reaction. I’ve been wanting you two to see this one for awhile because, despite how hard a watch, it’s a fantastic movie.

Matt O'Keefe

Hillary Swank's look on her face at 39:00 is heartbreaking.

Adam...Raging Bull is on my top 10; maybe top 5, maybe top 3 (I'd really have to head-to-head things). So there's plenty I could say here, but let's leave it at these 2: "inside the ring"...Scorsese certainly employed techniques and camerawork, that were groundbreaking for 1980. "Outside the ring"...while the depiction is certainly grim and depraved (and brilliant), let's hope they're not all as tortured as LaMotta, lol.

CD

If there's a criticism I have of Eastwood's "later" work...like Gran Torino (2008), and MDB (2004); is it's a bit melodramatic and over-the-top. As compared to 1992s Unforgiven...which is so beautifully subtle, and plays AGAINST type (especially for Eastwood, since his Man With No Name Dollar's trilogy, is legendary). OTOH, 2003s Mystic River is plenty stark, so...

Hilary Swank easily best thing about this movie! I.E. my comments, about the writing and directing being a little schmaltzy; but her performance is nuanced and great.

Matthew Johnson

George, thank you for sharing your family’s personal experience and how it shaped you and your position on end of life care. Having been through something similar in my family (largely as directed by a family member who had POA and wasn’t willing to let go) I very much agree with you on the importance of everyone being afforded dignity at that point in their life.

Maarten Martens

It's a rough watch indeed, but so incredibly well done. Thanks George for sharing that personal story. One small note about pronouncing the Dutch name Rijker: the IJ-combination can be read as a Y (or I), so it sounds like "striker" without the st.

Alec Picard

Damn, it’s been a rough stretch of movies for Simone lately

Pk

Yeah, but next weekend looks lighter 😉

I used to hang with a lot of boxers. They were all very much like La Motta. Domestic Violence And they just loved beating up people. I’v always hated Rocky.

Phillyman!!

Definitely watch The Fighter(2010)

Brandon Meng

I did eons ago, I think after their reaction to How to Drain Your Dragon. Love this movie, hilarious movie. Maybe if we get an all Jay Baruchel poll, it'll stand a chance.

Brandon Meng

Living for these somber movies with dark twists and themes. The only one that I think tops this in terms of how depressing it gets while maintaining the same level of top tier acting and writing is Manchester by the Sea. One of my all time favorites.

probablyKoi

Jesus christ I was not ready for or expecting this one. That was crushing.

Saw this one in the theaters and while I acknowledge that it's a great movie, it's just too much of a bummer for me. I'm gonna be honest and say that my favorite boxing movie is Real Steel. For a movie that's basically just Rock 'em, Sock 'em Robots, it's surprisingly solid and it's a feel-good movie, which is my vibe. Also, Anthony Mackie has a guest role in that one, too. I actually think you'd both really like it. The effects are also shockingly good for its time.

AC10

REAL STEEL!!! OMFG I can't believe you just said that... Because I can't believe George asked us about boxing movies and I didn't think to tell them myself. Imma steal this and say it again. F yes.

AC10

Real Steel. That's it.

AC10

Hehehehe... It was good though right?

AC10

Huh... I swear this name is familiar but I don't remember it. It's now on my short list to watch. Thanks.

AC10

It really is so good.

AC10

Hehehe(coughing...coughing) Excuse me. Yeah it has been... Man they really need a couple heartwarming, uplifting movies next... Like Real Steel.... O_o

AC10

Yep. It is good.

AC10

Wait what?? When did we think George was British???

Ari Ramirez

Highly recommend more of Clint Eastwood's later movies, like Richard Jewel and The Mule!

Simon Pegged Me

I love for them to react to The Hurricane. Great movie.

Simon Pegged Me

I was going to recommend Raging Bull. DeNiro is amazing in that role.

Adam Wetstein

It doesn’t catch how blood thirsty MMA fans are. They just wish someone would die in the octagon

Adam Wetstein

Yeah. Won POY Oscar and yet most millennials reactors don’t do it Can Simone handle the true look at a true monster film

Dan Holmes

It's so surreal to watch reactions to this film knowing how it all ends. makes all the hopeful moments feel desaturated and empty. so good :)

jmundt33a

How about I start suggesting it again.

Kameron Webb

I'm a few days late, but another good "fighting" movie is Warrior (2011) I highly highly recommend it! Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte, Joel Edgerton and a few more good actors! It's one of the few MMA movies and it's truly a masterpiece.
