The cop plays a vampire in a classic 80s vampire movie called Fright Night. Would be amazing if you both reacted to it one day! He was also in the Princess Bride.

Matt O'Keefe

I remember the My Buddy doll and its damn jingle in commercials..

Scott CineRam

Dirge Girl

... and does the speaking lines for Jack Skellington. < thumbs up >

Matt88g

Don Mancini wrote every chucky movie and the recent tv series that continues the story, bride of chucky is when the movies start getting dark comedy

Galactic Cannibl

My Buddy and Kid Sister were boy and girl dolls and Chucky resembled them and yes were creepy af after this movie lol

JoeE

Bookwormy

Please continue to watch the series, they get so camp and fun, and I just know that George would love Tiffany.

As other people have said, the Child's Play/Chucky franchise has gone some crazy places over the decades. The character was created by Don Mancini, who is still the brains behind Chucky today. Just wait until he becomes a queer icon (really). The 2019 movie you mentioned is not actually part of what fans consider the "true" Chucky franchise. It was made against the wishes of Mancini and his producer David Kirschner. The first Child's Play was made at MGM. When the movie was a huge hit and they wanted to make a sequel, the studio declined, so Steven Spielberg of all people got the rights transferred to Universal, where he worked, and they've been made there ever since. However, MGM still retained remake rights to the original movie, and that's what the 2019 movie is, a remake of the original movie. At the time it was made, Mancini and Kirschner were hard at work turning "Chucky" into a TV show, and they worried that a hugely successful remake would make the original Chucky less popular and get in the way of their plans, so they went on the record saying they had no involvement and didn't approve. In the end, the remake was moderately successful (and generally well-liked, even by fans), and the TV show got made, running three seasons (2021-2024). In terms of continuing the franchise, Chucky has pretty decent continuity. I would definitely watch Child's Play 2 (1990). If there is one you can skip, it's Child's Play 3 (1991), which is generally considered the weakest movie in the series and the only one that barely factors into the subsequent movies. After that is where the franchise starts to transform with Bride of Chucky (1998), and all of the ones from Bride through the present, including the TV show, are worth watching. The one thing I would stress is to not worry too much about the rules of the voodoo that animates Chucky, which are generally subject to whatever the movie in question needs the voodoo to do for the sake of the story. Also, that shot of the doll sitting down on the counter is a little person. They built an oversize counter for that shot. It's a great little trick as the rest of the scene is an animatronic, but that one shot adds to the belief that the animatronic can do anything.

Nothing beats the original but I really enjoyed the remake!

Please continue watching the films. It’s one of my favorite Pryor franchises and one of the few that’s retained one of its original creators (Dan Mancini), and the franchise has gone is wild directions. Child’s Play 2 and Bride of Chucky are my favorite sequels. They’re are more horror comedies than straight-up horror.

Simone was correct Dinah Manoff who played Maggie in this was also a Pink Lady in Grease...she was Marty Maraschino

There was an old Twilight Zone episode about a creepy doll, so I think people have found dolls creepy as long as they've been around. The blank, staring expression, and I'm sure everyone found a doll somewhere they weren't expecting it to be at some point lol. I was never a big doll kid, I way preferred stuffed animals.

paul rai

Predicting that’ll be Simone’s favorite! Jennifer Tilly’s addition elevated the franchise.

Rhinehold

My heart broke a little bit when you said 'old Jonathan Coulton song'. :(

Doug Shore

the episode was called "Living Doll" and i think the creators of Child's Play actually cited it as inspiration

Random Nevermind

That is my second favourite horror. It is very common for the horror movies that the evil is just want to be super evil for no good reason. And all the explanation for the evil force is “Oh it is a serial killer”, “Oh it is a demon” and so on. It does not really explain their inner motivation. Serial killer is not killing 24\7. He should take off his mask to eat his cereal. He must exercise, watch tv, drink beer occasionally. He must get money somewhere. Pay taxes. Demon wanna get to the living world. Okay. But why? To get a shitty job and apartment, get married, have kids? When evil is super strong I do not believe in it. Why somebody is alive if it can randomly possess people, fly and talk scary voices? When victims are too passive and doing nothing, when the police is incompetent to the shocking degree - lazy writing. Sometimes movie is that good that you can forget about something while you are watching. But that movie is different: Chucky’s goal is totally clear and justified. He is acting smart enough for a sadistic criminal but not a genius. He has lots of problems he cannot even just walk the streets. It is not easy for him. Boy has clear motivation and his mother too. Cop is competent and skeptic enough but not to the degree of denying the facts. People are not passive they are actively pursuing their targets in the way that seems appropriate for their characteristics. And it is not always smart decisions but it seems like real people actions here.

Here's hoping you eventually get around to watching Hellraiser (1987)

"What kid would watch this movie?" I did. I grew up on horror movies. Feels a lot different watching this movie now as an adult. It makes more sense now putting together all the different scenes in the movie. I had a My Buddy Doll as a kid. My mom bought me one. They had My Buddy Dolls for boys and girls. That's how old I am lol. I still like this movie. Brad Dourif did a great job voicing that psycho lol.
