We need hundred dollar baby after this one

Foggy

speaking of hilary swank, yall should watch yellowjackets!

Grandalf

Holy shite, George! A cinefile who hasn't seen a young Clint Eastwood film? You MUST watch THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY! One of the best films of all-time full fucking stop and it still holds up today.

Mike FromOz

I love Hilary Swank, always have had a crush on her, ever since 'The Next Karate Kid'. It's like this film, but without the horrible ending for Swank. But compared to 'Boys don't Cry', also with Swank as the lead... Yeah, you probably will want to avoid that one. One thing you missed from the film was when Eastwood was waiting in her hospital room, and she isn't in there, and then she is back, it was because she had her left leg amputated. It's why she says that she wants to die because they're going to keep taking things away from her. It also explains why she was attempting to bite through her tongue, as she didn't want to have to constantly be having amputations to take parts of her away. I have my own issues with the film, in regards to disability depiction, but I recognise that it is very well put together. Also echoing other people who say to watch "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". It's Eastwood in his young prime, and a fantastic film to boot.

Chris DeLuca

The best boxing movie of all time is Cinderella Man, imo.

Henry Sanchez

You gotta watch - The Fighter (Christian bale and mark wahlberg) - Warrior (tom hardy and Nick Nolte) - Rudy (football movie but the best underdog movie)

I’ve taken surveys from time to time after filling out forms online for various things. But I take a monthly survey from a certain company that tracks TV watching… I’ve been a member for almost 3 years now.

Grandalf

Son of a bitch. I'm an hour in and I know what's coming. Simone's face is already going to make me cry my eyes out.

MikeBdrx

I agree with you George. My dad died when i was 9 from colon cancer. It was maybe 6 months from when we found out to when he died. He was 6'2 230lbs most of his life and when he died he was barely 120lbs. They kept him moslty on morphine for the pain. At some point it should be ok to help them end the suffering.

Monica Alarcon

Great movie, finally got to watching it. I hadn't watch till now because I was spoiled by an ahole who just blatantly came up to me and a group of friends and he was like "I just saw Million Dollar Baby and wow, I can't believe at the end she (spoiler)". We were so angry... I don't talk to him anymore...

In the Line of Fire should be your next Clint film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves should be your next Morgan Freeman (or Oblivion!) Hilary Swank: Logan Lucky

MacGuffinStuff

It wasn't if Hilary Wank is attractive, it's is she HOT lol I just watched that episode the other day.

Surveys like that are typically handled by a 3rd party and management receives metrics that they can use to rate and hold employees accountable. Typically higher rated customer service is part of an overall matrix used to rank and separate employees

Douglas McCabe

You haven't seen a young Clint Eastwood film! You are in for a treat, the man is a walking talking living legend.

I work for a company that has surveys, used to be an option after the call but now we send out email surveys. They use Net Promoter Score system where customer rate between 1 - 10: 9-10 being positive, 7-8 passive, 1-6 negative and then the overscore is the %promoters minus %negative - customers can leave voice message or written feedback with those as well. My managers always listened to the surveys, or read the surveys, listen to the calls if customer expressed extreme dissatisfaction to provide training or feedback to the consultant and would call the customer back to apologies and find out other ways to assist to improve their experience. They also provide recognition or positive feedback, and the customer experience a wonderful customer service experience too. My work is pretty customer experience focused and encourage us to offer to submit complaints or feedback for the customer if they are not happy with something. Sadly, not all businesses do this.

Doug's Night Terrors

Surveys are part of an agent’s metrics—along with things like call time and callback rate—and can affect raises, promotions, even job security. I was a supervisor at two call centers, and both used third-party vendors for surveys. Part of my job was reviewing negative surveys and disputing the ones that didn’t actually apply to the agent. A lot of times, angry customers would give low scores across the board—even if their issue was with the company, not the person who helped them. Most surveys have one or two questions about the agent and the rest about the company or situation. But when people are upset, they tend to mark everything low. And since most people don’t even fill out surveys, the percentage of responses we do get is often skewed toward the negative. Sometimes I could pull the call and check if it was a coaching or training issue, but often the agent did everything right—and I’d still have to fight to get that bad survey removed. So if you’re ever filling one out and the agent was helpful or polite, try to score them fairly, even if the company dropped the ball.

As far as realistic boxing movies, one of my favorites (which doesn't count because I'm sure you meant fictional movies) is When We Were Kings, an incredibly well made, well edited documentary with great music btw about the Rumble In The Jungle, when Muhammad Ali was an aging underdog against a young and undefeated and frankly terrifying George Foreman (RIP, great boxer and human). Just saying you should check it out, one of my favorite documentaries. But for fictional boxing movies, and I'm not a boxer, I boxed a little in the army, but I'm a fan, and I would actually rate Million Dollar Baby highly because not a lot of movies go into detail, about the training etc. I'd also recommend The Fighter, with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. The only thing that bugs me about that movie is it's based on a true story but I know that, as a boxing fan, that fighter went on to fight one of the greatest fights I've ever seen, Irish Mickey Ward against Antonio Gatti (from Quebec but born in Italy), and it's not shown at all in the movie. But it's still good, just not about that fight and rivalry. But man Gatti/Ward was a hell of a fight, especially that first one, and they were like Rocky and Apollo, after they went to war three times they ended up becoming best friends. The third I recommend I think lost badly in the poll, Raging Bull. It's fairly realistic but mostly it's great because of the filmmaking, Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, what else I gotta say? Fun fact, De Niro's boxing coach told him if this acting thing doesn't work out he might try boxing professional, after De Niro won two of his three amateur bouts. And then his boxing name could be Bobby "The Method" De Niro. *Oh I guess Raging Bull didn't lose that badly, just wasn't doing well when I checked.

Speaking of people insuring body parts, and this is surely before your time Simone and George, but there is a now-retired US TV presenter, Mary Hart, who once hosted the syndicated show "Entertainment Tonight" for 29 years and her manager apparently had her legs insured for $1 million each. https://tvnewscheck.com/uncategorized/article/mary-hart-a-daytime-tv-career-with-legs/ This is a clip of her from a typical episode of that show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Y8n5O-DQyY

Would have been really funny if George made the opening, like, 3 seconds off in sound, just to screw with Simone, and her "snap" 😆

James W.

That movie is brutal but one of my favorites. It beautiful and well acted. I see lots of folks saying they don't like it because it is a bummer and i think that is kind of a reductive point of view. I prefer something like this over the never-ending tide of vapid bullshit that we get hurled at out eyeballs most of the time. Great reaction. That story about George's grandfather was surprising but appreciate the openness of it and 100% agree that people should have the right to determine when they go.

Hilary Swank won her second Oscar for this role. She won her first Oscar for her portrayal of Brandon Teena in "Boys Don't Cry." Also a film you should consider watching. As for young Clint Eastwood films "Where Eagles Dare" is a must see. Not only is it arguably the best spy/action/thriller film of all time, it also inspired the Castle Wolfenstein series of games and by extension all first person shooters. So I guess I'm officially requesting "Boys Don't Cry" and "Where Eagles Dare."

MAID exists legally in 10 US states and Washington D.C. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_suicide_in_the_United_States George, it’s not just the priest’s personal feelings, but in Catholicism, suicide is a “mortal sin.” Mortal sin is an act which, by definition, results in eternal damnation to a person’s soul if the person does not repent nor is forgiven in the eyes of the Church. Since it is impossible to repent after death, it’s unforgivable. However, there is some nuance involved and it’s very complicated. For example, it is not necessarily a mortal sin if one commits an act that results in his or her death while saving another person (a soldier jumping on a grenade to save his squad mate, for example). In the case of the movie, Frankie and Maggie would each certainly be committing a mortal sin in the eyes of the Church assuming they are both Catholic (or Lutheran). She wears a cross so she is presumably a Christian of some sort. Frankie seems to be a Catholic. Not that I agree with the Church by any means and doing some quick reading I can see there was a fair amount of controversy/discussion of this film vis-à-vis assisted suicide among Catholics and others after the film was released. And not every Catholic necessarily believes all this. But the Church’s position is fairly clear.

I believe you need start young at the age of 12/14 if you want to be a professional boxer it’s required so you can build up your sponsorships and build your reputation that you can hang all those rounds. My closes part to be a boxer was me playing Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out in NINTENDO. And also I’m sorry for George’s grandfather going thru all that death thing just to have permission multiple times to die it’s just plain cruel to do that to a human being.

The companies actually do listen to those. I worked as a Customer Service Representative for a casino up my way where I worked phones, answering calls from customers to answer questions concerning promotions and all that. I haven't watched this before but I'm thinking this is a boxing movie. hahaahahaha, I'd believe that JLo insured her ass for a million dollars. Boxing's an incredible sport. lmao, no, George. They were/are complete white trash. xD I was thinking you were going to say something venomous but that was kind. hahahaha, wow. Seriously, what the fuck? This movie didn't seem like it would be this fucking dark. I'm a person that's a quadriplegic. I'll be this way for the rest of my life - I've been this way for a majority of my life. I've faced the thought of suicide - ending my own life a number of times. So far, I've been unsuccessful at it and I hope that it continues to go that way because I like being alive. Things may not always work out or go as planned but living is important and pushing through challenging times often leads to entertaining stories down the road. I'm a big fan of telling stories - so it all works out for me. :) I have no idea what sort of pain/tragedy her character was going through. Yes, I'm paralyzed without any chance of recovery. I never walked a step without a walker, though. I have no idea what I'm missing. I believe that if I were to have been an able bodied man for half of my current life and have it taken away, I wouldn't be around anymore. That's why I'm not upset with their decision to end things for her. It makes sense. Is it tragic? Fucking right, it is. Would I go and do something like that? You bet I would! I'll never rewatch this movie but good god damn, it was a great movie! I really enjoyed it. Eastwood clearly deserved that award! It makes me happy that he won it. :)

My mom recently (this year) died. She was terminal with HIV and her end wasn't filled with misery and pain. I'm very thankful for that. She was quite weak at her end but she was in good spirits, at least. I'm also thankful for that. If it was filled with everything awful I don't know how I'd of handled that. I'm sorry that you had to struggle with it toward his end.

Logan Kerlee

Ah, neato. I've done that as well but likely with another company/organization. It's cool that you're doing that. :)

Simon Peened Me

I love Where Eagles Dare. It came on television as the Saturday matinee all the time when I was a kid.

Simon Peened Me

All of my favorite boxing movies have already been requested, so instead of repeating those requests, I'll request a boxing-adjacent movie instead, 2008's The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei. Please and thank you.

An Inanimate Fucking Object

Without a doubt, Creed is the most realistic boxing movie imo. Continue with the Rocky and Creed series!!!!

zak

Still hoping you guys get to Creed or Warrior one day, not boxing but still a great sports film.

John

I agree, finishing the Rocky series and starting Creed would be great

Lana Gorgeous

I'm debating if I should watch this movie with you guys. I saw it in the theatre when it first came out and it destroyed me. OMG, the anguish. If I ever watch it again, I just have to be in the right frame of mind.
