Actuarial Lurker

Mel Brooks never seems to miss- this was hillarious

Happy Hanukkah

"History of the World"? Shouldn't that be on George's other channel?

Duncan

What is this other George channel you speak of?

Dwight Scarn

High Anxiety and Life Stinks are great Mel Brooks movies that I grew up with.

Jeff K.

I love Mel Brooks, but I can assure you... oh boy, does he sometimes miss. Looking at you, Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Actuarial Lurker

I DID see Dracula Dead and Loving It and had tried so hard to erase it from my memory that I had forgotten about it...so yes- at least one failure....never saw Looking at You

Cinebinge

😭 that project turned out to be a lot more time consuming than i expected... but im glad i got it out of my system in some small way, some day ill return to it.

PIG

"The Inquistioooon, what a show!" Brooks, who was Jewish (surprise), made fun of something so horrible and dark. Comedy, and the usefulness of comedy, had so much more balls back then. I think it's starting to come back, slowly. Looking forward to the reaction!!!

Happy Hanukkah

And here I thought you were simply displaying your Corinthophobia!

Happy Hanukkah

Since you reacted to this movie starring famed tap-dancer Gregory Hines (in his movie debut), howzabout his White Nights (1985), co-starring Mikhail Baryshnikov*? * For Simone: "The Russian."

Guillaume Huet_rennibou

The "fifteen... ten! ten commandments!" joke may be my favorite movie joke ever. F... genius.

Happy Hanukkah

"Brooks, who was Jewish, made fun of something so horrible and dark." Yeah, sure, but that was already ancient history. Would he have the balls to make a comedy about an antisemitic abomination taking place in recent living memory? :-P

PIG

I have no idea. But there was a point in recent media where even making fun of ancient history was frowned on. For good reason? For a misguided reason? That's what I'm pointing at. Not just about the jewish community, but groups in general. Antisemitism is horribly strong today, but it was also there back when he made this film too. It's strangely ever-present in the West.

History of the World part 2 is.... well it's pretty bad. There are a few good sketches in there but you have to go through stuff that's mediocre or just plain terrible to get to it. I had to go back and try and watch an episode or two because I really couldn't remember anything other than it being mostly forgettable. Maybe check it out on your own but I certainly wouldn't try and watch it for the channel. On the other hand... How about some Top Secret? or Loaded Weapon 1?

PIG

To be clear, I think Brooks was fearlessly pushing back with his comedy.

Happy Hanukkah

To clarify my own comment: I was referring to The Producers (1967). (And not taking issue with your comments.)

PIG

Well now I have to watch The Producers then! Never seen it.

Happy Hanukkah

5:19 [stolen:] The "lost" Commandments are: Thou shalt not pass. [Or "impregnate."] Thou shalt not laugh. Thou shalt not buy. Thou shalt not sleep. [Unclear.] Thou shalt not break. Of more relevance for you cinephiles, thou shalt not judge Lethal Weapon by Danny Glover.

Charles Gaba

“Mel Brooks, who was Jewish…” He still is. 98 years old and still going strong :)

Charles Gaba

The title was the best part of that one.

Mike FromOz

Top Secret, definitely. It is non-stop great jokes.

A Möbius strip cannot play the accordion

It’s my birthday today, so to enjoy the ridiculous shenanigans of Mel Brooks was a delight. Spaceballs was one of the first videos of yours I watched; as always, you guys are awesome

A Möbius strip cannot play the accordion

True, they’re chipping away at it but the list grows on and on; just finished the new season of Andor, and it’s probably the best piece of star wars media to come out in the past 10 years, in a three way tie with rogue one and the first season of the mandalorian

Matthew Wabals

I’ve never seen George laugh sooo much until Hitler on Ice.

Astraeos

How could you cut the "my tits are falling off!" joke?? Shame on you, and your house.

Astraeos

"Amongst our weaponry are such elements as fear, surprise... Ah never mind, I'll come in again" I would literally, and quite honestly, shell out like $200 for this duo to watch Flying Circus lol. It's just so hilarious, and there's so many cultural references, and you really just can't beat Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Ashkaun

PLEASE watch part 2. It is a genuinely hilarious mini series that deserves more respect

James Falato

I think You haven't Reacted to Mel Brooks' first Film: "The Producers" 1967... It's a "Must See" for Everyone who looks to follow His Filmography...

The Unknown Cinephile

There is a History of the World Part 2, it’s on Hulu it came out in 2023, it’s meh, the Hitler on Ice and Jews in Space jokes are there but everything else is new.

Jesse Coombs

My favorite Mel Brooks movie, and his first, I believe.

Els

If you want to have done Mel Brooks, you have to do the Producers.
