Lincoln and The Help got my votes

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Gangs of New York for Bill The Butcher… sorry, I mean Daniel-Day Lewis. Same can be said for Lincoln about the guy too (and the film is stellar). Some great choices here!

Twiska Brand

I could have sworn they have seen Gangs of New York before. I must be thinking of a different channel.

Gabriel L.

Lincoln isn't winning today but it still gets my vote

Tom Hess

Gangs of New York: best of the bunch. You'll love it. Honorable mention: Glory (1989).

Mr. Writhms

I thought the same thing for "Glory". 🤔

Skyruff Creative

One of your best overall lists! These are all must sees!

Carl Noraas

Glen Garry Glen Ross will lose out yet again, but one day we’ll close the deal! Looking forward to it. Meanwhile, I’ll go to lunch.

paul rai

Two great Daniel Day Lewis performances in Lincoln and Gangs of New York. Here’s hoping one of them gets enough support!

Kyle Baker

Got to say when I voted in this poll, I did not expect Gangs of New York to be winning.

Boris Kopp

Daniel Day Lewis, no matter the movie. Some great choices here. Looking forward to Gangs and Lincoln.

Kyle Baker

Also to all my GGR heads, what up!

Mike W

Christopher Reeve's superman is one of the best

Emily G

Meet Joe black!! Omg please watch that eventually. 🙏 Also: Practical Magic (1998)

Zack Gallardo

Meet Joe Black is such a strong film.

Emily G

It’s fantastic I hope it pulls through.

Matt Blanchette

Watch the extended version of "Superman". You'll have a LOT of fun with it. :-D

Emily G

The Help is my second choice. I really hope they watch it some time soon!

Eugene Reilly

Glory won’t win, but is really incredible and worth your while.

beecroft adams

A good classic film is The Great Escape.

Hans Olav Sletnes

Was hoping Glory would do better, but great list Some random suggestions for the future: What About Bob: great Bill Murray comedy Leaving Las Vegas: this movie is "heavy", but probably the best thing Nic Cage ever did. Ed Wood: One of Burton's best, and essential viewing if you've seen Plan 9

Xavier Casanova

As a Simpsons fan, George HAS to watch Glengarry Glen Ross for the Gil reference.

JayF

For me it's either Glory, which is an incredible movie with amazing performances or Superman because Reeve will always be Superman to me, also because it will be fun watching Simone crush on him.

Jimmy Olofsson

Don't really have a strong horse in this race but went with Superman as it could be fun to contrast the newer superhero movies

John

There are some great movies here. I certainly hope Glory and Lincoln do well. I think any poll with two DDL performances has quality

jmundt33a

All bangers and one burning bag of excrement. Marty should have gotten Razzies for that cinematic crime. Also, Superman was released in 1978.

jmundt33a

Seconded on What About Bob?

jmundt33a

Absolutely. Practical Magic is one of my favorites. And Meet Joe Black is very good.

Daniel Smith

Christopher Reeves will always be my Superman. Nails Clark Kent being nerdy/weedy and Superman being super strong etc. Aldo liked the young Clark portrayed by Tom Welling.

jmundt33a

Lincoln is fantastic. Gangs is only watchable because of him and Neeson.

Raymond DeGraw

Interesting poll... I'm pulling for Superman. Love your reactions and looking forward to seeing these in the future... 1. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) 2. Falling Down 3. R.E.D. 4. Little Shop of Horrors (1986) 5. Secondhand Lions (great all-around movie comedy, action, heart, Simone and George will love it)

jmundt33a

Gangs of New York has hardware. And Lewis and Neeson are great. As for the rest of it…

Jethro Divine

I am sorry to say that I have nothing to contribute to this poll since I haven't watched any of these. I bet all of them are awesome though. I'll try harder next time. Much love!

joejud1017

Another poll of really good movies. Hard to go wrong. Here are some suggestions for another poll for movies I don't think you've reacted to. Prisoners - Psychological Thriller Midsommar - Psychological Horror Companion - SciFi Thriller Fear - Psychological Thriller Sling Blade - Drama Panic Room - Psychological Thriller Instant Family - Comedy Drama The Lovely Bones - Psychological Thriller Just Go with it - Comedy Deja Vu - Thriller

King_Panarisi

The right stuff (1983) Cool runnings (1993) first man (2018) Platoon (1986) Mr bean’s holliday (2007) The island (2005) Jumper (2005) Intouchables (2011) American sniper (2014) Torra! Torra! Torra! (1970) The Pacific (2011) Masters of the air (2024) Red tails (2012) Taxi (1998)

Vellu

Ed Wood +1

dudewheresmycar

With that username, of course you were gonna vote for Superman! 😊

John_rd

Oh no. Making me choose between gangs of New York and Superman is just mean. Come on now lol

Random Nevermind

Two random movies for the next poll Contagion (2011) The Great Gatsby (2013) Also I kinda surprised that ‘The Help’ is doing do poor. Why is that I wonder?

Nathan Swapp

Bill the butcher from Gangs of New York is one of the greatest villains put on screen

fox_e_crow

Also, the title is Superman: The Movie

The Gunslinger

You should check out Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

Jethro Divine

No one is better than Handsome Jack. Wait... That's a game character.

Dirge Girl

G'mornin'. But how 'bout these? • A Boy and His Dog (1975) ‧ [Sci-fi/Thriller] • Turbo Kid (2015) ‧ [Sci-fi/Action] • Tank Girl (1995) ‧ [Sci-fi/Action] • The Return of the Living Dead (1985) ‧ [Horror/Comedy]

jmundt33a

Both of those outbreak films are good.

jmundt33a

Deja Vu. Absolutely.

Andy Raffle

Superman 1 and 2 were made back to back and some things are set up in 1 that don't pay off until 2. So if you enjoy the first one, I hope you have the opportunity to see the second.

theycallmekev

Of course Superman is going to win in a poll of heavy dramas lol

robodong

literally not a drama poll, read the title.

Maeve1667

All of those are great movies.

Chris

There's one stinker on here I just don't care for, but keep bringing these back--this is a good list.

Maeve1667

Other great movies that you guys should check out is Sleepers (1996) and The Three Musketeers (1993).

UnSafeStu

Calling for 2 great John Cusack and of course Joan Cusack movies. Gross Pointe Blank (1997) High Fidelity (2000)

Lock_Down

Lincoln is a great movie , the monologues 🔥🔥

Chase Lonnergan

It might not be a drama poll, but most of the movies on it ARE heavy dramas.

Patrick

I picked Gangs, mainly for Daniel-Day Lewis

maikeru

for a comedy poll: Loaded Weapon (1993) and Idle Hands (1999)

Chase Lonnergan

Come on Superman! Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner understood Superman/Kal-El and Clark Kent better than anyone since.

theycallmekev

Gangs of New York – Epic Historical Drama Glory – Historical Drama Lincoln – Historical Drama Meet Joe Black – Romance/Fantasy Drama Glengarry Glen Ross – Comedy/Drama The Help – Comedy/Drama Superman – Superhero film All of the movies are drama films except one lol doesn’t matter if it’s RANDOM…that’s still the case lol

maikeru

it‘s so weird that I have snippets of false memory that they watched Superman 😵‍💫

IR4TE

It's been a few days since your last foreign film I'd like to suggest 'Elite Squad' (orig. Title 'tropa the elite') fantastic Brazilian movie, it also has a sequel that's also very good.

theycallmekev

Exactly. Just because the poll doesn’t specifically say “drama” doesn’t mean that the movies listed aren’t that lol it’s crazy i have to explain this

robodong

and neither have they, so its titled random cause how would they know?

maikeru

I want him to say "I drink your milkshake" in every movie he‘s in. Until then my life is meaningless.

Khan1001

SUPERMAN (1978) NO QUESTION, GANGS OF NEW YORK, REALLY PEOPLE!?

theycallmekev

Because a movie called SUPERMAN in a list of films where half of them are about historical events… kinda sticks out, don’t you think?

jmundt33a

Idle hands…okay

Maiki

Suggestion: The Ballad of Wallis Island (2025). My favourite film of the year thus far.

Paul Mix

+1 on Platoon!

jmundt33a

Sleepers is excellent. Three Musketeers is peak ‘90s. Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Chris O’Donnell. Tim Curry having a blast as the cardinals. Michael Wincott as Rochefort. Rebecca Demornay and Gabrielle Anwar. And, lest we forget, a love theme performed by Sting, Rod Stewart, and Bryan Adams.

Fox

Suggestion. Session 9. Tyranasaur. ( I want to see you both destroyed from this filmlol)

Paul Mix

+1 again on Falling Down; it did pretty well on the recent 80's poll (not sure how popular runner-ups get handled in polls).

jmundt33a

Definitely a second for Grosse Pointe Blank.

jmundt33a

Real shame about Gangs of New York, huh?

Mastervodo

I hope they watch Superman and comment on how incredibly stupid the ending is.

robodong

you know how other people exist and arent just clones of you? so there for they like different things than you? yeah its that.

John DelVecchio

In future, “Parenthood” with Steve Martin… great cast!

jmundt33a

Especially Contagion.

Kevin M. Pitts

This poll is going about how I expected. A lot of good options but I think that the two that are pulling away from the field are the right ones.

Paul Mix

+1. Harder to pick the follow-up version if they do Superman II (Lester or Donner cut). I actually like elements of them both.

Spence Lee

I know it has been on some polls before, but The Man from UNCLE would be a great episode, not just because it’s a secretly great movie, but because there are so many great elements to react to.

Maeve1667

Yep, plus you can't forget Oliver Platt as Porthos.

Paul Mix

It takes brass balls to do reactions.

funky weapon

Glengarry Glen Ross is so so good. Damn shame it doesn't have a chance. Gangs isn't bad but it is hard, hard carried by DDL.

Robert Finlay

Daa daa daa daa daa, daa daa daa, daa daa daa daa daa... Superman!

Robert Finlay

Daa daa daa daa daa, daa daa daa, daa daa daa daa daa... Superman!

Robert Finlay

I would rather they review Shazaam starring Sinbad

CassiusFilipovich

I see myself as Bill The Butcher... I love this movie so much... You have to watch it!

FWPJR.

Gangs of New York is great, would love to see it win this. But even if it doesn’t, I know you two will react to it sooner or later.

Guillaume Huet_rennibou

It's actually Daa, da da da daaa, daa daa daaa; Daa, da da da daaa, daa da daaa!

Ben Stevens

gladly accepting the two that are out in front this week. nobody do anything crazy, and we'll get two classics in. love to see it. GGGR would be stellar too, for the cast and the iconic lines alone.

Alan Jones

Below I would like to submit some truly random unheard-of masterpieces from the past that never get reacted to, because today's viewers have never heard of them and just keep voting for what they know (giving us the same closed loop of films in the reactorsphere over and over again). Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) The Lion in Winter (1968) Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) Midnight Cowboy (1969) On Golden Pond (1981) The Trip to Bountiful (1985) The Secret of NIMH (1982) Okay, maybe the last is just a guilty pleasure of mine, but still, seven great films that never get mentioned. Run that poll, see what wins, or just watch them all and discover, "Gee! They made a lot of great movies back then!" (Don't worry, all you black-and-white-ophobes. These are all in glorious color, including one animated feature in the classic hand-drawn ink-and-paint style of old school Disney, though by a rival animation producer, not Disney in this case.)

Adam

Yes please

Paul Mix

In the spirit of "completely random", here's a move I forgot to recommend on the recent 80's poll: - Miracle Mile (1988) It may be a hail-Mary suggestion, as it only gained a cult following in home video, but it is actually one of my favorite movies for several reasons (as spoiler-free as I can, as ideally one should view it for the first time knowing as little as possible about it): - It has one of the biggest (and coolest) tonal shifts of any movie I've ever seen, lulling you into thinking it's a rom-com until the second act. - Great cast (Anthony Edwards, Mare Winningham, Denise Crosby, and lots of other recognizable character actors). - AWESOME score by Tangerine Dream (the soundtrack was the first CD I ever bought). - I feel its atmosphere perfectly encapsulates the unique combination of paranoia and existential dread felt by many in the U.S. in the late 80's.

Vellu

Loaded Weapon +1

Florian

Same ❤️

Florian

I‘m waiting for Gangs of New York for a long time, if its not winnimg I highly recommend it to be watched soon 🫶

Carl Noraas

You call yourself a commenter you son of a b**ch?

Jeb Manning

This is a pretty good list. There are definitely some other movies I would love to see on a poll in the future. They would be so fun: -Dracula (1931) -Frankenstein (1931) -White Zombie (1932) -King Kong (1933) -The Wolf Man (1941) -House on Haunted Hill (1959) -The Last Man on Earth (1964) -Yellow Submarine (1968) -Harold and Maude (1971) -Dawn of the Dead (1978) -Time Bandits (1981) -The Dark Crystal (1982) -Creepshow (1982) -The Return of the Living Dead (1985) -Re-Animator (1985) -Innerspace (1987) -Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) -Hellraiser (1987) -The Fisher King (1991) -Waiting... (2005) -The Lego Batman Movie (2017) -Detective Pikachu (2019) -The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) -Transformers One (2024) -Predator: Killer of Killers (2025)

John

There were two French 3 musketeers movie’s released in 2023/2024 that might be a viewing

maikeru

@jmundt33a nothing wrong with idle hands, it‘s a dark comedy

maikeru

I drink your milkshake🥤

John

It would be interesting to see a double header of the 2002 Count of Monte Cristo and the French version from 2023

Jeff K.

I freaking love Last of the Mohicans and completely agree, it should be watched. It's beautiful (I mean, it's a Michael Mann film so of course it looks great), it's a fantastic story, and the score is AMAZING. One of my absolute favorite film scores in history. Promontory is on my playlist for long runs and always will be, it gets my adrenaline up so damn much.

Raymond DeGraw

Yes, I would enjoy that. Similar to their Roadhouse and Nosferatu reactions.

Jeff K.

I love On Golden Pond. I don't think they've seen any Henry Fonda movies other than 12 Angry Men, either.

Tenn Seven

It's too bad Glen Gary Glen Ross doesn't look like it has a chance; it's a fantastic movie. Gangs of New York would be utterly forgettable (even bad) if it weren't for Daniel Day Lewis.

Logan Kerlee

I looooove that ya'll are voting for Superman! <3 1979 Supes is the best! <3

jmundt33a

I didn’t say there’s anything wrong I just representing my hemming and hawing before tepidly backing the suggestion.

jmundt33a

Tara—Didn’t forget him, this was his breakthrough. Before that he was running from Beethoven.

Seth's Coffee Cup Ambush

I just saw the new Superman and would absolutely love to revisit the Christopher Reeve version. Some random choices for future consideration: North by Northwest (1959, Alfred Hitchcock, Thriller) Strange Brew (1983, Rick Moranis & Dave Thomas, Comedy) Ronin (1998, John Frankenheimer, Thriller) - top tier practical car and action sequences Way of the Dragon (1972, Bruce Lee, Martial Arts) Once Upon a Time in the West (1968, Sergio Leone, Western) - one of the greatest westerns Sneakers (1992, Phil Alden Robinson, Cozy Heist-Thriller) Little Shop of Horrors (1986, Frank Oz, Musical/Comedy/Horror) Batman: The Movie (1966, Leslie H. Martinson, Superhero/Comedy) - Adam West’s Batman is light, colorful fun

JD Nevesytrof

Great Shades of Elvis, how has Superman not gotten done already?

Be Human

Would love to see these make the list: 1. Natural Born Killers 2. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 3. Layer Cake 4. Lucky Number Slevin

Be Human

He was a villain?

Jeff K.

That documentary was so damn good. And for those who have not seen it, when you do, make sure you have multiple boxes of Kleenex and maybe some Gatorades to rehydrate and replenish your system because holy hell will you cry a lot. Side note: I'm so glad I watched it, as well, because it allowed me to actually recognize Will Reeve in his cameo appearance in the new Superman. (He plays a TV reporter - which he actually is in real life.)

Dominique Cloet

I need some more comedies: -Bowfinger -Wet Hot American Summer -Waiting… -Due date -Hangover 3 -Horrible Bosses 2 To name a few

Adam

I second Bowfinger

Lycowolf

Guys gotta finish out the 80's Extreme remake trilogy with The Blob sometime. The Fly, The Thing, and The Blob, three 50's campy horror movies that all got extreme remakes in the 80's.

sarCC

Yeah, the entire time it feels like there's a better movie inside it following his character. Leo and Cameron are outrageously miscast.

sarCC

?

sarCC

Grosse Pointe Blank is so great. My favorite John Cusack role.

Owenrock1221

100% voting for Glory....it is by far the best movie on the list, not only because its a damn great story, but the acting in it is just phenominal....one of my favorite movies of all time

Lorkein

Actually, I thought it was from 1978 (Still I want to rewatch it too) ;-)

jmundt33a

Best intentional Lois, Best Perry White, Best Clark Kent, Best Martha Kent. Also best Cat Grant (one season) second best Lucy (four episodes). Even a decent Lex Luthor. A shame Cain is off his rocker for the last decade. For those wondering, Great Shades of Elvis is a Lois & Clark exclusive from the late, great Lane Smith.

jmundt33a

North By Northwest. And Sneakers.

jmundt33a

If it was the chronicle of the war between Bloody Bill and Priest Vallon it would have earned its reputation.

jmundt33a

Also my favorite roles for both John and Joan.

jmundt33a

Explaining the conceptual bloopers leads to spoilers.

Brandon

I've been watching a lot of Superman related stuff lately since the new movie came out, so that's where my vote goes. The idea that it could lead to reactions for Superman 3 and 4 really tickles me, since those last two movies were ridiculous.

Be Human

Superman and Gangs, Glory was way overrated.

CD

Especially now that they’re doing no-sync! There was a time, I would have paid a pretty penny…for EXACTLY that! But…now we see what kind of chance it has, with the CB fam. Maybe if it were spelled correctly? LOL. Or maybe it’ll make it back, for the “most f-bombs per minute” poll (and since they’ve already done Wolf)

CD

That is sooo weird; something made me think of On Golden Pond the other day! 14 year old me liked it…and I was wondering if it would still hold up (kind of a well-explored trope by 2025…and melodramatic. But melodrama can be what’s needed sometimes).

Jay Davis

Nearly everything on this list is top notch. But I GOTTA give it to Glengarry Glen Ross cuz Mamet. I can't not single vote it.

CD

Whoever told you that you could work with men?

CD

We got it to a poll! An uphill battle though 😭

UnSafeStu

I can't decide between the two, so I requested both 😂 Double bill maybe?

CD

You see this subscription? You see this subscription?

CD

If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend Homicide. It doesn’t have the sizzle of GGR…but it’s PURE Mamet!

Jay Davis

I freakin' LOVE Homicide. Own a copy. Between it and Spartan (with honorable mention to Redbelt) I'm not sure which is my favorite Mamet.

Jonathan Eaton

Well, that’s 3 polls in a row that had something I recommended. Now if only people would vote for them.

Vengeance

This is a night for Americans!

Jose Robles

so ... many... great options! I just voted for all

Charles Davies

Meet Joe Black is such a great film that more people need to see. Sad it wont win this time

Opti_Frog

You will believe a man can win a poll. ...or a gang. 😋

Alex Hyrule

Gangs of New York more votes lets go !!!!!! :)

Matthew Brown

As much as I would love to see the reaction to lincoln! But christopher reeves superman is a big must

Alex Hyrule

surprised Lincoln not doing better. Amazing film and epic Daniel Day Lewis performance as usual.

BellaBlue

Predictable winner...Gangs making it closer than I thought... I'd been happiest w 3 on the list..but maybe in the future

BellaBlue

Requests for your consideration: Theme: Needed love for Cailee Spaeny, Sophie Thatcher, and Kathryn Newton - Priscilla (2023) - Civil War (2024) - Heretic (2024) - Companion (2025) - Lisa Frankenstein (2024) - Abigail (2024)

sarCC

4 is just bad, embarrassing. But III is at least funny(on purpose) and has some fascinatingly bizarre scenes and ideas in it. Plus, it inspired Office Space.

Lamar Savage

I simply cannot stress enough how masterful Spielberg's "Lincoln" film is in every aspect or how miraculous Daniel Day-Lewis's performance is in the title role!

jmundt33a

One of the problems with 4 was casting Mariel Hemingway who demonstrated a possible casting mistake years earlier. Ursa’s comment rang true in the sequel, and it should not have.

Michael Buhl

I know Network has been on previous polls and lost, but I'm taking this opportunity to advocate for it again. Here are some others I'd like to recommend: After Hours (1985) The Conversation (1974) How to Get Ahead in Advertising (1989) Miller's Crossing (1990) The Saddest Music in the World (2003) The In-Laws (1979) Death at a Funeral (2007) Repo Man (1984) Sunset Boulevard (1950) Withnail and I (1987) Dog Day Afternoon (1975) Being John Malkovich (1999) Videodrome (1983) ... and the most Canadian movie ever made, Strange Brew (1983)

Donald Mellen

Have to second Miller's Crossing! Great movie.

s0rd3z

Primer seems random... it's not though.

ShōNuff3K

So bad it's good? Breakin' and Berry Gordy's Last Dragon

Zipper

Alot of people bought Meet Joe Black tickets because Star. Wars episode1 trailer played at the beginning. Then they left.

Zipper

Serpentine, Serpentine

Opti_Frog

That's the same as voting for none of them.

Adam K

So many great movies - I hope we don’t end up with Superman. So many reactors have done it recently and so many absolutely brilliant, award winning suggestions in this poll

Tenn Seven

Miller's Crossing is my favorite Coen Brothers movie, even though it's less-well-known than some of their others.

Opti_Frog

I did a reaction video to Withnail and I a few years back. I think i was the first one to do one on YT. It's also the only one i did. 😳

Opti_Frog

Love that movie.

Young Blood Priest

Good list. Mind if I add Boomerang? Prime Eddie Murphy.

Emily G

You and I need to keep fighting for them to react to Practical Magic ! 🤝

Dakota

I hope that sometime in the future you guys watch: Sherlock Holmes (Guy Ritchie) The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Guy Ritchie) Noises Off (Michael Caine, Cristopher Reeve, John Ritter) Looper (Rian Johnson, Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt) Hudson Hawk (Bruce Willis)

jmundt33a

Noises Off is hilarious.

jmundt33a

A worthy struggle🤩

Old School Drew

Here is a future recommendation Used cars (1980)

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Lot's of good films this week, and GoNY is 100% the top pick here, but I'm going to speak up for a great one that will always have a tough time winning a poll. MEET JOE BLACK is very good and even if it never wins, I highly recommend it to everyone here. I realize there may be some bias on my part because it really hits different when you are Dad to two grown women and Grandalf to two not-so-little-anymore girls... I mean Hobbits ;)

John

I fully support these two movies, maybe under cult classics

Jeff K.

If they wanna go the Rian Johnson/JGL route, I'd vote that they start from the beginning with Rian's debut film, Brick, which is where his friendship with JGL started (for those who do not know, JGL makes at least SOME kind of appearance in every one of Rian's films, even if it's just being a random voice - like the detective on the TV in the show that Marta's sister is watching in Knives Out or the "voice" of the hourly dong in Glass Onion).

Brandon Meng

Superman is fun and topical, I get it. But there's no other movie like Gangs of New York. It's one of a kind and so polarizing with its style, a must for a reaction channel. Possibly my favorite Leo movie. Other recs: Perks of Being a Wallflower Manchester by the Sea Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Sideways The Royal Tenenbaums Cheers!

Angzarr

Oh man, it’s been too many years since I’ve seen Noises Off! Fantastic movie, I would love to see them do that one.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Surely the fact that Supes and Gangs are so close that means both will be done relatively soon?

Angzarr

I’m also fond of The Spanish Prisoner. (My phone wanted to autocomplete that as The Spandex Prisoner, which sounds like a very different kind of movie)

DDK

Superman is good, Superman II is even better, make sure to watch that too. The 3rd and 4th are entertaining for different reasons lol, super campy and weird.

Seth's Coffee Cup Ambush

Yes! Paranoid thriller is such a fun genre! After The Conversation and Enemy of the State, it leads right into some more classics: Blow-Up (1966), Blow Out (1981), and The Parallax View (1974).

Stanley Etienne

Watch both Superman and Gangs of New York. Two very good films

Seth's Coffee Cup Ambush

It would be a lot of fun to get more Canadian movies like Videodrome or Strange Brew

Jonathan Eaton

I just don’t get what reaction people are expecting for Superman. They are going to sit there enjoying a good movie. That’s fine I guess. But personally I like to see them show some real emotions.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Because they’re going to experience a key film in the history of American cinema. The first ever blockbuster superhero movie, with one of the best actors of all time in the lead, groundbreaking and award winning visual effects and a love story that’s worth being emotionally invested in. But sure pal no real emotions involved there

Ciarra Jade

Great movies but man..we are gonna have to watch Superman first before we get to gangs of New York aren’t we? 😤 😂😂😂

BellaBlue

all great suggestions

BellaBlue

I know it is beloved and I enjoyed it..but I have never thought it was great as so many seem to...but it is what it is...predictable win once it went on the poll...I'm glad GONY is putting up a fight though...GONY is one of the 3 on the list that I'd be most happy about I really wish they'd go to ranked voting...I think the outcomes would be more interesting

jmundt33a

Last Dragon was a Berry Gordy ego project?😂😂

jmundt33a

Halle Berry as the girl next door in Boomerang. Strange.

jmundt33a

Might I suggest A Rage in Harlem for peak Robin Givens? Also Devil in a Blue Dress for its absolutely loaded cast.

Michael Buhl

@Seth Or The Saddest Music in the World.

Angzarr

Noises Off also reminds me of The Impostors, another fun farce with a stacked cast. It seems like hardly anyone is even aware of it though. The soundtrack is great too.

CD

Mr. Mom is fun

Dee Aitch

Always. Be. Closing.

Kelly Pickard

I do hope Glengarry gets a viewing someday. I know it's unlikely to win a poll, but it's a classic.

Daniasaurus

I haven't seen any of these be The Help so I'm excited. Well I did see Superman a lot when I was a kid but its been so long since I watched it I bet I forgot a ton.

droodly

GONY and Superman are so close, we are almost guaranteed to get both, BUT... If we can make it an exact tie, we get the added bonus of watching Simone try to flip a coin! C'mon Y'all, WE CAN DO IT!

Robert Cooper

First place is a brand new Cadillac car. Second place is a set of steak knives. Third place is you're fired.

Matt Blanchette

The script Donner used to shoot what he shot is out there online -- not the 1979 revised one for Lester, nor the 1977 one with four villains instead of three, but the one that, if you search in it, has a scene where a cake gets dropped on Perry and Jimmy after Lois falls out the window (I'm pretty sure that was cut during shooting). Read THAT script, THEN keep THAT in mind when watching the Donner Cut, because so much in his cut had to just be Lester footage to bridge the gaps, and his script's versions of those scenes are COMPLETELY different. No "East Houston", the kid at Niagara is actually sympathetic before he falls in, etc... People don't take that in mind when watching the film!

Matt Blanchette

Technically speaking, UK and Canadian cinema -- the bulk of the "U.S." scenes were shot in Alberta. "Superman III" practically has most of its runtime take place in Calgary.

Mike FromOz

Wow, I really expected 'Glory' to be doing better.

Logan Kerlee

Main reason why I said that was because it's the oldest movie on the list and that make me happy. :)

Marko T.

When you watch Superman watch the theatrical version. 143 minutes. There is also extended TV cut that doesn't improve the movie. At the time they did many TV cuts and made them as long as possible to get as many commercial breaks as possible. I think it was split into two nights.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

This just sucks, 2 Scorsese’s in a month and not one superhero movie in the calendar year so far and the one you skip is one of the best ever made

Alex

They should react to both.

windyWin

I hope that you both one day react to Once were warriors. It's a movie that resonates with me because of my lineage and the history of my country and its people. It's a powerful movie, in different ways. It may be best to look at the rating to see what it contains, i dont want to give any spoilers. Some people may have suggested it before but I'm gonna do so this time.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Seconded, absolutely incredible and important movie but for the love of god have something nice and light to watch immediately afterwards

Clipped

Christopher Reeves is the perfect Superman AND Clark Kent. :)

Bo Dan Petersen

Movie Recommendations: Baseketball 1998- made by the creators of South Park Over the hedge. 2006 Hoodwinked- 2005 Ice age-2002 The rocker-2008

Brandon Meng

Is this the closest the top two movies have polled together with this many votes?

GAB

Gangs of New York is not a good Scorsese movie. Even Daniel Day-Lewis's performance doesn't save it.

Skitzobunny

A, Always, B, Be, C, Closing. Always be closing!

Adam K

Echo this - I feel like people forget it’s not just the movie but the reaction that makes this entertaining. These would be excellent for that purpose.

robodong

? who told you theyre skipping? literally every single time when 2 movies come really close they do both.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

I’ve counted 5 times just in the last 3 months of polls that they haven’t

robodong

close second. not just second place. close second. also, how many times do they have to keep repeating the phrase "just cause a movie lost the polls it doenst mean we wont ever watch it, it just means we'll watch it later" before that message sticks for you?

Clipped

What the heck I thought I specifically made sure there wasn't an S because it drives me crazy too! Now let's go get those Viet Congs.

Logan Nelson

Is noone going to bring up Leo in Gangs of New York? I love him in that role...

rictus grin

not seen The Help, but i know the rest of the movies are all worth a watch

John_rd

We have a draw... I love both movies so all good

Jacob King

Gangs of New York is one of the best depictions of the atmosphere of the 19th century in a movie. It’s not “realistic” or “historically accurate” because those things weren’t concepts that 19th century people cared about.

Nicholas Bielik

I like Gangs of New York—but Superman ia an indelible film and shouldn’t be missed.

Matt Blanchette

We gotta get "Superman" to win, bro! :-o

Matt Blanchette

Wasn't there a sequel, as well, also with Temuera Morrison?

Matt Blanchette

...I think somebody just took a vote away from "Superman", what the hey dude?

Florian

No way, I'm here to defend the Gangs of NEWWWWW York! :D

Florian

Draw means two movies on one day, I said it, I mean it! ^^

Florian

Really? Its been a while since I watched it, but I allways had the best memories with it. Or do you mean specificly in the canon of Scorsese?

Khan1001

They usually do both whens its this close, SUPERMAN 78 is a must watch, especially for the late great CHRISTOPHER REEVE, HE REALLY DID MAKE US BELIEVE A MAN COULD FLY, they should watch Super/man the Chris Reeve Doc after this as well.

JoeE

Would also recommend dog day afternoon, you’re next, bad news bears, ed wood, better off dead, bowfinger, m

Khan1001

Its a common mistake, think they get mixed up with George ReeveS

Khan1001

it must be Lex's mutant interdimensional monkeys messing around, damn those little buggers!

Matt Blanchette

Nah, do the TV cut; it has more from Alberta with the Indigenous folx actually getting a good thing out of their land deal, which is cut in the theatrical version, that they might appreciate.

Tall Paul

If I can change my vote to give a tie I definitely will!

Marko T.

The long runtime might make the movie too slow. Extended TV cuts of the time feel often more like assembly cuts. They just include everything without thinking about pacing.

Maarten Martens

Wow didn't expect Superman to get that many votes. I haven't seen it but now I'm interested. Gangs of New York is an epic film too, so either is gonna be a cool watchalong.

sarCC

I mean, pretty much everyone falls in love with Reeve while watching the movie. I don't know, I guess I like it when people get to watch good movies instead of bad ones.

sarCC

I think I did the same with Wing Commander. At least the cat people were funny in that one...almost as funny as that Joe Black clip.

sarCC

I forgot to recommend something, so, naturally, I'm recommending [REC]2

JoeE

Would also recommend cowards bend the knee

dudewheresmycar

Currently 982 Gangs of New York, 981 Superman. Closest poll in a long time!

droodly

What would happen if every voter voted for all 7 movies ending in a 7 way tie?

PeppermintWizardOfAus

I get the message, but when “we’ll watch it later” almost always translates to “we’ll watch it maybe 2-3 years from now” it’s not unreasonable to be annoyed that it misses out being watched now by a few votes because some pretentious people on here just don’t like comic book movies and would rather watch mid Scorsese movies instead

Diamond Patrick Humphrey

You should do "The Aviator" movie instead of gangs of New York. It's a movie about Howard Hughes.

UnlicensedOkie

YESSS GANGS OF NEW YORK. Finish strong. I honestly haven’t been this excited about a pole in a while.

windyWin

Yeah. What becomes of the broken hearted is the sequel. I never watched it all the way through.

Tom Hess

Then Simone and George would have to watch all 7 films... simultaneously.

droodly

God Dammit I'm in! Make it happen peoples!

Chase Schleich

Holy crap. Didn't expect Gangs of New York to be on the list and especially didn't expect it to be winning. Haven't seen it in years, but it's a hell of a movie.

Alex Hyrule

The might of Daniel day Lewis cannot be ignored:)

Chris Adams

Glen Gar Glen Ross is an amazing movie and one that blew me away when I saw it. It won’t win but man is it good.

jmundt33a

Thank you GAB. Truth. 2 hours and 48 minutes that felt like 24 hours and 8 minutes. One of the last VHS I ever rented, and I have always deeply regretted the misery I brought myself. Its romantic drama cousin always seemed to be Elizabethtown from a few years later. Another interminable, EXCRUCIATING experience.

jmundt33a

Hoodwinked is delightful. Ice Age is serviceable with some emotion at the end. Over The Hedge has some chuckles.

jmundt33a

Mamet had a thing about casting his ex to play ex to play evil women. Spanish Prisoner is one example. Very big stretch for Steve, but he pulled it off well.

Jonathan Eaton

Hey George, Samuel Jackson’s excellent movie The Red Violin (1998) has a whole chunk of the movie in Mandarin.

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning comes to digital on August 19! Definitely one to add to the immediate watch list

Jay S

Gangs of New York introduced me to Daniel Day Lewis so probably a little biased but it's my favourite performance of his. Also Glory is so underrated!

robodong

its not that big of a deal, they always do second place. just chill.

robodong

1 hour into a new poll when half the community is in other time zones: "oF cOuRsE sUpErMaN iS gOiNg tO wIn" 🤡🤡🤡

Chase Lonnergan

Awww, maaaaaaaaannnn... 13 people spoiled my weekend! Lol!

Alex Hyrule

for sure we will see superman soon being the 2nd placed finish :) something to look forward to for longer :)

Tom Hess

What I've learned from this conversation feed is that a lot of people dislike GONY... and I'm baffled. To each his own taste obviously, but it's by far my favourite Scorcese film.

Daniel Jones

Harakiri (1962) is the highest rated movie of all time on Letterboxd!

SJB

Late in the day, but here are some suggestions I'd love to see on a poll: Last Night in Soho Oculus The Fisher King The VVitch (The Witch) The Lighthouse Frost/Nixon The Green Knight

Nathan

Australian film, Shine (1996). Geoffrey Rush (Pre Pirate) won an Academy award for his portrayal of pianist David Helfgott.

Texas J

Glen Gary Glen Ross is such an odd story. I don't know if I love it or hate it. Hopefully that's not too much of a spoiler.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson

Suggestions for future polls: Grosse Pointe Blank Being John Malkovich Ghost World 😁🤓

Layan

🪄🕯️The next show after better call Saul will be Fargo 🕯️ 🪄

jmundt33a

The film I would not wish on my worst enemy won. I wish I was more surprised.

WillyD

Suggestion for a show to watch. Both Narcos and Narcos: Mexico. If you guys are feeling up to it

Jonathan Eaton

Since S&G always get hungry watching movies it’s too bad The Help didn’t win. 😉

jmundt33a

Grosse Pointe Blank is awesome.

jmundt33a

I consider myself a fan of his, but other than J Edgar, this might be my least favorite performance from him. It’s why the film was such a letdown and slog after the opening act. For me.

ComradQuestion

Hey guys, how do you feel about diving into David Lynch movies? Personally, I find him hit or miss, but some of his movies are great!

sarCC

Wehoa, all these movies you suggested are excellent!

Mike Medaugh

Would love a Starman reaction!!

pippi l

A Starman reaction would be amazing! I feel it's a very underated movie.

Ben H

Recommending "The Stöned Age" (1994), a 70s inspired but timeless feeling comedy with a killer soundtrack. Produced by the guy who went on to do Harry Potter. Some say it's like "Superbad in the 80s" while it actually strikes some dramatic-depressing notes at points. Highly recommended! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111293

GAB

Yes, I consider GONY a middle-tier Scorsese movie . It isn't as bad as, say, Boxcar Bertha or New York, New York, but I have no wish to revisit it. However, other people might like it for reasons I will never fathom. To each his own. DiCaprio and Diaz's attempts at Irish accents also seem off, but as I'm English, I shouldn't really comment.

Ginger

Wow, that was a close one :D - So I guess, Superman on sunday? Wishful thinking. ^^ I'm even more looking forward to Superman 2-4 (yeah, I have a nostalgic fondness for even 3 and 4)

Ginger

Waitaminnit! There's no hateful comment above this one at all! xD raah I'm so angry!!! 😂

John

Those are great shows and hopefully after Andor they will be on a poll

Jay Davis

Grew up with Starman and then the TV series. Special place in my nostalgia heart, that one.

Jay Davis

Simone would have to flip a loonie 7 times, get stressed out on flip attempt 2, then just decide which one we watch.

Jay Davis

"Yeah. Sure. 1983... 1984. Whatever it takes."

Marko T.

I hope you react to Superman soon.

Maeve1667

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.

Matt O'Keefe

When is the Superman reaction coming since it tied with Gangs of New York?
