A couple of the sequels are pretty solid as well. And the American remake (Quarantine) is actually pretty good too.

You guys have to watch REC 2. It immediately picks up right where this one ends. It’s a sequel continuation of the story. RECS 3 and 4…meh. But 2 is just as good, if not better, in exploring the narrative lore further. As far as found footage films that have a survivor (which technically is a spoiler but I’ll keep it vague because survivors can be a loose term): As Above, So Below The Poughkeepsie Tapes Chronicle End of Watch Troll Hunter The Last Exorcism Zero Day Some of these are horror and some of these are non-horror but are genre films like fantasy and such. Edit: changed waste to watched.

Controversial opinion, Quarantine is one of the few remakes that I think is a little better than the original, purely based on the strength of the lead actress and the removal of the religious subtext of the story.

Excellent movie, with the subtitles seeming to disappear a short way in, as if your brain reads it without diverting your attention from what is going on. And listening to Simone shout "Oh fuck! Oh fuck! Oh fuck!" is a weird but enjoyable experience. She somehow looks so pure, as if sugar wouldn't melt, and yet... And this is the 57th movie Ive watched with you guys where she declares, "This is my worst fear" That's a whole heap of worst fears.

Really? I saw both ages ago but didn't remember much about Rec other than the basic premise. I think I stamped Quarantine as an "acceptable remake". Rewatching this, I thought the actors were fantastic, does Quarantine really top this in your opinion? Might have to give that a rewatch then.

As movies they are just about equal in direction, set design, cinematography, etc. The acting of the secondary characters is about the same, very well done in both. But by removing the demonic possession and cult aspect, the outbreak of the disease feels stronger and more grounded, and Jennifer Carpenter is more charismatic in her performance, and her chemistry with the rest of the cast is stronger.

Even though the American remake being a shot for shot copy it somehow isnt as scary. the spanish sequel also deserves a watch

Watching Simone get scared is what I'm here for. This is a well made horror film. Rec 2 is just as good. I hope you guys watch it.

Do you know Spanish? I feel like maybe the language being different could be what makes people feel that. But if you know spanish, you can feel how natural she sounds (same thing with other actors) all the reactions don't sound like they read the script word by word, especially when she is scared or at the start with the firemen.

If you guys have watched all Final Destination movies, it is only fair if you watch the whole REC series! (Imho a bit better than FD, especially the wedding one.)

I don't speak as much as I used to, growing up in a bilingual household. But, for clarity, I never said her performance was bad or unnatural. The Spanish actress is fantastic. But I believe that Jennifer Carpenter has more charisma in her version. She grabs the attention of the viewer and makes you wan to watch her, more than the Spanish actress does. Similar to the way that the Spanish firefighter is more charismatic in the original. And I will stand by my statement that JC has more on-screen chemistry with the secondary cast than the Spanish actress does. Thay's one of those things that transcends language.

Im a bit late to the party, but i somehow missed this one. You asked in the intro about found footage thats not horror. Both "Searching" and "Missing" are two movies that i recommend if you ever want to check out something thats not horror.

I have ADHD so I need music or something to distract me so I can work or read. Especially reading. if the environment is too quiet my inner thoughts are so distracting I just end up staring at the page for like 10mins without noticing. So music or some background noise helps drown my brain out and makes me focus on what Im looking at. Also, it helps for me to be in another location other than my home. Cause with my video games nearby or tv or my computer I'll get distracted by those instead of reading or start telling myself there's some chore I need to do. When Im out at a bar or coffee shop I can only do the task I was there to do and that's read, and then I use my earbuds to drown out everyone else with music. Lol

I do prefer Quarantine over this one. Partially because I just can't read the subtitles quick enough, but also because I recall reading that this movie is more possession, and I just had a difficult time getting around that. Didn't make much sense to me.
