I thought this would be the thumbnail. Get your tissues ready, folks, we're doing this.

Jeff K.

Gather ’round, it’s time to watch our favorite Canadian reactors sob uncontrollably! This is hands down my favorite Tim Burton film (with the possible exception of his first Batman movie), but that’s easy since I generally can’t stand Tim Burton movies (I even mostly dislike Beetlejuice and REALLY dislike Batman Returns, wanna fight about it?!?!).

Luca Kelly

watching this only days after my dad died was probably the worst decision a human could make but great movie though!

Jeff K.

Oh I mentioned last week when you announced this week’s slate, but feels worth a reminder that the screenwriter of this movie, John August, was on Brett Goldstein’s podcast last week and said he enjoys reaction content and likes watching people react to this movie so there’s a very solid chance he will wind up watching this one, George and Simone.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Wonderfully made film by Mr Burton and company! Arguably his most moving film for sure! Will say it’s up there for this dude’s father and son stories that hit the feels, not to discount how well it employs its truly imaginative approach.

Cartoons ReAct

yeah no...I saw it again with another reactor about a year after my dad passed away and it was hard...

Cartoons ReAct

Michael is still a young and outside cat, it takes time for them to adapt but will always be completely different than the others...as well as you'll always love him no matter what

mike

Absolutely love this movie

Jeff K.

Ok one more comment for me: watching you guys try to place Billy Crudup (Watchmen, Spotlight actor) serves as another reminder that you REALLY need to watch Almost Famous. He’s so damn good in it, and it’s genuinely one of the best movies of the 21st century.

Matt Dellarosa

"It was a beautiful film...I never wanna watch it again." I get it Simone, this is a great movie. I think I never really appreciated this movie when I first watched it. Probably because my relationship with my dad wasn't great. So it didn't really pull on my heart strings so much if that makes sense. Now that he's been gone for years and I'm older and wiser I can see this film with new perspective. Glad you got to watch it? Lol, is it bad that I love watching you cry? Really good one, thanks for posting. I know you're Canadian but still wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. You dont need an excuse to enjoy some turkey. Either way enjoy your day.

Matt Dellarosa

This seems like a good place to recommend the movie Wild starring Reese Witherspoon. That one was alot more emotional for me because I watched it a few months after my mom passed away. This isn't a spoiler, it's a true story about Cheryl Strayed who hiked the Pacific Crest Trail after her mom passed away. Very relatable for me. Hope yall watch it sometime.

Cody Cameron

To all who are curious, Ewan McGregor is 5 feet 10 inches tall. The Giant height is 7 feet 6 inches. So while some special effects were used not much were used

Drew

Question for Simone about the Cinebinge sign on for this movie: Jamie Loftus fan too?

dasgrove

As a ‘merican, I am contractually obligated to spend the day gobbling turkey and shoveling dressing while discussing banalities with distant relatives, but I look forward to watching this tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to those who partake.

Matthew Wabals

Can’t believe I’m tearing up over a damn you tube reaction….

ShōNuff3K

Ok. Why does the sight of dark holes scare or gross Simone out? I've seen her reactions to such things in at least 3 movies.

ShōNuff3K

I did not cry the first time I saw this movie, but NOW I do!? Old age makes you softer or meaner.

Mikebdrx

I just wanna say thank you for reactingto this. Also I was doing good till Simone started crying then I did too. Movie hits very close to home for me.

J

This is the perfect way to spend my American Thanksgiving morning! This is one of my favorite movies ever. Hoping you both enjoyed it as well.

Matt O'Keefe

Maybe you two can watch Drag Me to Hell with Alison Lohman(She plays Sandra when she marries Edward). It is fun and disturbing. It was directed by Sam Raimi. Also Alison has retired from acting sadly for us. She is an acting coach and mother of 3 now per wikipedia. She has not done any acting since 2016.

Marvin Just Marvin

Another Ewan McGregor sleeper is The Men Who Stare at Goats. Definitely a worthwhile movie. In the meantime I look forward to watching this reaction after diner.

CryoniC

I already knew what the thumbnail was going to look like and I was not wrong 😆. I saw this movie as a teen randomly on tv one day and it made me ugly cry so hard. It reminded me so much of my relationship with my own dad and till this day it is one of my favorite films of all time.

RichieRich

I love this movie so much. I have seen it multiple times and I still cry at the end. This is also the last great movie Tim Burton has directed imho.

Jonathan Eaton

For more live action Tim Burton I suggest Edward Scissorhands (1990) Fantasy/Romance Starring Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder

Denashi

I have watched this movie several times now and I'm still as big a bawling mess at the end of it, as Simone was! Such a wonderful story!

Michael Bauer

I haven't really rewatched this since losing my dad. I knew something was gonna get me (even more than this movie usually does). ... I didn't expect it to be the moment where Sandra lovingly fixes Edward's hair as he's lying in a hospital bed after having a stroke.... but man, that was just such a real moment. I think this might still be my favorite Tim Burton movie.

Life in the cave of Garanoga

Criminally underrated film. I worked at a video store when this came out and it was one of the few movie I can remember that no one complained about. I got pretty good at recommending movies for our regulars and this was one I told them all to rent. Unless you have a very specific genre you like and only that genre you'll enjoy this movie. Stories about storytellers are hard to pull off without feeling cheap and tropey, you don't feel that at all here.

sb

Yes, that was Miley Cyrus as Ruthie.

Dwight Scarn

Yup I definitely predicted a thumbnail like this off Simone bawling. Beautiful movie that I can feel in my gut.

Gunther89

Some other Alison Lohman movies you should try to get are Matchstick Men, White Oleander, and Drag Me to Hell.

JoeE

Roy’s engagement rarely work out

sb

Karl the Giant (Matthew McGrory) was 7 foot 6 and gained exposure from the Howard Stern Show as a member of "The Wack Pack" before transitioning to acting.

Morion Williams

An adventure where not a lot happens and it's mostly just walking around would be the Lord of the Rings.

Mike FromOz

Albert Finney is great in this. He's also fantastic in "Miller's Crossing", which I will never stop recommending. It's the Coen Brother's best film. And yeah, you got me Simone. I didn't have the developed relationship with either my Mum or Dad, not the way I wanted. So, yeah, this movie really brought it out. Simone crying also got me going as well as I have a deep empathy for other people's feelings, plus the rawness of the loss of both of my parents to cancer was still there. A beautiful reaction to a beautiful film. Thanks ❤

Lone Desert Bones

I regret to inform you all that I have an itch I absolutely cannot reach on my back. Meanwhile, this film always makes me think of a certain book. While VASTLY different in tone, Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried” deals heavily with reality versus perception. It can be best described as a war story about war stories, and is a very formative book for me when I think about how we tell things to each other.

photos_by_geoff

Absolutely LOVE this film! I am with you Simone with so many more tears than I thought I had inside me. Be well you two and Happy Thanksgiving from the US side.

Stephen Morris

I ugly cried at the End when he told his dad that everyone was there at the river. Thanks guys I needed this today, sometimes a good ugly cry is what you need.

Tony E Crumpton

Tim Burton's Ed Wood, please. Pretty please?

Happy Hanukkah

LOL at how invested the two of you were in the portentous dream story. 35:21 "Albert Finney ... looks like someone who loves life." https://www.youtubetrimmer.com/view/?v=tbYXaz7FZXo&start=360&end=412 ["Spoiler" for those unfamiliar with A Christmas Carol.] But of course *the* relevant Albert Finney performance is in the Oscar-winning Tom Jones (1963). One of my favorite lines is the sledgehammer-ironic one just before 40:35. https://www.youtubetrimmer.com/view/?v=UCBhtVKS1sU&start=2345&end=2350 An early Ewan McGregor movie also featuring water is Blue Juice (1995). But I doubt his presence will register with almost any heterosexual male. (The movie features a young Catherine Zeta-Jones.)

Bruce Woodcock

Ashton and Spectre aren't the same town. Sandra knew Edward was from Ashton like Don Price was. The deed Will finds shows Spectre on it for the address, not Ashton.

Simone's Coconut Squire

IMO Tim Burton's magnum opus and nothing he has done or ever will do will top this.

Maarten Martens

I'm so glad you watched it, it really hits home. Beautiful story and I knew Simone would be a wreck, just like the crooked house Karl fixed. Glad George knows when to hold back during the really emotional bits, this is what makes this channel so good. Perfect marriage of an analytical and emotional minded brain. I don't mean you are exclusive that kind of type, just that it's great to see that difference come across to us viewers.

Jay

There's 17 seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia..... so I've seen Danny DeVito's ass plenty of times 😂😂

Charlie Ito

Was excited for this since it's been a while since I've seen it, and I also knew you would end up like that after it finished. It's the saddest happy movie I know. I think the second-place one would be All That Jazz. Similar themes, fantastical elements and also Jessica Lange.

Jonathan Eaton

After seeing Simone’s reaction I think I know a movie that will absolutely wreck her. My Life (1993) Michael Keaton, Nicole Kidman

Happy Hanukkah

I strongly second (well, third) All That Jazz (1979). The first (well, second) scene is worth the price of admission all on its own. Jessica Lange is hit and miss for me. She's a hit in this one.

Holdenk

Its funny you mention their accents, because both Forrest Gump and this movie taker place in Alabama. A southern US state

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Yes! There’s no reason to have suffered through “Plan 9” without the pay off of seeing one of Tim Burton’s best flicks!

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

As a guy who’s gone down many a strange & esoteric rabbit hole, there’s a docu-mini series that’s worth checking that covers this subject, “Crazy Rulers of the World”.

Andrew

I was thrilled to see my favorite reactors react to my favorite movie. This was amazing. Also, random question if you see it. Where did George get his awesome stein/mug he uses? I love it.

Neumann

one of my favorite movies but, like simone, i rarely ever watch it because i just start sobbing lol. i wish burton would make sunsoaked sentimental whimsy films and not just dark victorian gothic whimsy films, he fucking killed it with this one

M.C.G

This is the first time I've seen this since my own father died; absolutely wrecked me. Always liked it, now think it probably is Burton's best work, lol

Jeff K.

I'd also like to recommend Tootsie as another great Jessica Lange performance (and just a great comedy in general) that won her Best Supporting Actress and features an absolutely loaded cast, and is one of the best comedies of the '80s, hands down.

dreamspecialist0721

Haven't watched this since my dad passed away in 2020 from cancer. Love this movie, but yeah it's very difficult to watch for me. I can only do reactions to it now because watching the full movie destroys me lol great reaction though, glad you guys liked it :)

Drew Acheson

I almost didn't watch this with you guys because I always ugly cry when I do. But I wanted to be there when you experienced it because it's so great. Thanks for doing this movie. Now I need to go take some aspirin because my head hurts from balling.

Blqbrd

I knew this ending was going to kick Simone’s ass 😭

zona999

I LOVE kitty Michael! He is hilarious and so entertaining! I've watched a few vids I wouldn't have normally hoping to see him. He is so adorablee!

Jacob King

Drag Me To Hell is a perfect Halloween movie.

Jacob King

I had a similar experience. Much better to get softer with age.

Jacob King

Has one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s most memorable small roles. I’d specify the Theatrical Cut not the pointless Bootleg Cut. Almost Famous is a near perfect film and the longer version was a shameless cash grab at the height of the DVD boom.

Simon Pegged Me

I agree. Helena Bonham Carter's accent is terrific. She put in the work. As Usual.

Simon Pegged Me

For another whimsical retelling of a fantastical life, I recommend Almost Famous (2000), which stars Billy Crudup. I know others have mentioned Almost Famous in earlier posts. I'm doing it too because I'd hate to miss the bandwagon. And while I'm recommending whimsical fairy tales of adventure and beauty, I'd like to recommend Deliverance (1972), which like Big Fish, features the song Dueling Banjos.

Sito

Simone shirt out of place for this movie lol

Jon Nelson

Love this film, Love your reaction Burton Rules! and hope you watch Ed Wood and Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure soon

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Lovely Thanksgiving gift, hope eveyone who participates had a good time. Really like this one and would put it up there with “Ed Wood” as my favorite Tim Burton flicks. Maybe just a little too sweet in some spots for my taste, would normally go for something more like “Magnolia” or a recent flick like “Aftersun” for similar themes. But hey, maybe I’m just an uptight asshole who could use the reminder to amp up the whimsy in my day to day routine?

Happy Hanukkah

Mulberry, perhaps you should amp up the whimsy in your day to day routine.

Happy Hanukkah

/does a quick search for Billy Crudup Ah! Inventing the Abbotts (1997).

Shibby

I got about 1hr 30 through this but just couldn't finish it. I hope you guys enjoyed it.

Poddington

Simone looked truly devastated when it was implied Edward had an affair. Shows just how great the writing is to be that engaged with the characters.

Happy Hanukkah

I was listening to the analysis of the poster 0:29-1:12, practically pressing my nose to the screen, and wondering if I was being pranked. It took my finding a good-quality poster to ease my mind. :-) 19:49 Thank you, Norm. 41:17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmEBlrRRMBQ

Logan Kerlee

Awesome reaction! I've watched this many times and at the end 'm always in tears. Thank you for the great watch!

Marcus Hicks

This definitely stands up as my favourite of Tim Burton's films. Always makes me tear up towards the end.

Matt O'Keefe

I am a month from 50. I cry near the end of your reaction. This might be my favorite Tim Burton film.

Dee Aitch

Careful, you don't want to make some geeks get so excited over this comment that they puke.

Dee Aitch

Except that most of the accents in this film were "vaguely Southern" instead of "Alabama."

2026-09-05 05:00 This has always been a touching film, but having lost my father over 2 years ago, combined with watching Simone's emotional reaction was over the top. I didn't just sniffle a little, lol. Full-on contorted-face crying was more like it. I truly appreciate George and Simone getting to this one.

So George just asked,”Is there a movie that’s just a small scale adventure just to the postal office down the road?” To which Simone rejoined, “I think it would be interesting to watch a movie where nothing really happens and it’s just this little thing… there’s something about that I find interesting.” Well, George & Simone there IS a movie like that! It is one of my all time favorites, but it is almost impossible to describe… other than how you two just humorously talked about it above. It’s called “The Station Agent” So few people have ever seen it that it would NEVER EVER win a poll. So I respectfully suggest that you two react to it because, well, you two just requested it just now. It stars Peter Dinklage, Bobby Cannavale, and, one of my favorites, Patricia Clarkson. (Perhaps there are others…? but…) You don’t know what you’re watching until slowly, magically, it becomes one of your all time favorite (sorry, “favourite”) films ever. There isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t think of it and smile.

TheSentry77

Wow, exact same situation here. I remember seeing this movie when it came out, and while I recall loving how beautiful and touching it was, that was the extent of it. Watching it now, a few short years after losing my dad to cancer, the movie hit so much harder than I expected. I was full-on bawling my eyes out along with Simone. The quirky macabre Burton classics will always have a special place in my heart, but I think watching this one with this new perspective just made it jump way high up in my favorite Burton movies.

Logan Kerlee

Holy crap, thank you Brad. I just got finished watching The Station Agent and I had an incredible time with it. :) That's really one of the main reasons why I subscribe to this Patreon and others like it. I am always on the lookout for a movie that's new for me and that I will enjoy. I'm in full support of them watching it as a reaction!

dys

I'm just getting around to watching this reaction after the US Thanksgiving holiday that I spent with my family, and I'm so thankful that my dad is still around, but he is 85 and very recently had a cancerous brain tumor removed. In the week before that surgery he had increasingly lost touch with reality which was incredibly scary, he had never had any signs of dementia before and there's no history of dementia in my family. He had recovered to his old self a couple days after the surgery but he had one incident over the holiday that seemed frighteningly like sundowning again, so we're waiting on him to get scheduled for his next brain scan and I'm scared of it being his cancer returning. Just to say I'm so sorry y'all for losing your dads, and I'm really scared of losing my dad to his cancer too, and this movie hit me hard for those reasons too.

Bryan Sullivan

When Simone cries, I cry. Seriously, I envy those who had the opportunity to say goodbye. I did not...so this movie has always hit me right in the feels. I grew up in the south, with a bunch of story-tellers, so this one hits home.

TSOTMiam

I loved the Station Agent. Haven't seen it in a while but it is one of my favorites.

gfixler

All right, you talked me into it. I'm voting for it, too. Never seen it, but I really want to now.

gfixler

This thing about Danny DeVito working with Shane Mahan on Penguin, who worked on a werewolf for this film made me look him up. He's done some very big, cool stuff (Predator, Terminators, Jurassic Parks, Galaxy Quest, Constantine, Iron Man, etc). He was at Stan Winston studios until Stan's death, and then formed Legacy Effects with 3 people from there. I never knew it was named for Stan, and his legacy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_Mahan Randomly, when I moved to LA in 2002 to work in games, my first job was in a tiny animation house over a sign shop, almost directly across the street from Stan's studios. I actually got in his way once, crossing the little street street there to walk to my car. I looked over at a very expensive car, waiting for me to finish crossing, and it was Stan at the wheel. Actually, directly across the street from us was Vivid Entertainment, a porn film company 😆 The guys who sat at the window there used to see hot chicks getting out of their cars and going into the building. They also got to see a T-Rex head being rolled down the street once, from Stan's studios, before I got there. LA is weird.

Happy Hanukkah

[Time traveler from the future here.] I am watching a reaction to Zack Snyder's Justice League (by Reel Rejects) and heard a very minor character speak. Unmistakably Billy Crudup. (Though uncredited.) Also TIL that Carla Gugino voices a minor character in Batman v Superman.

Austin P

Big Fish has a twin movie (think Deep Impact vs Armageddon) that also came out in 2003: Secondhand Lions. It wrestles with a lot of the same issues and hits hard. I tear up watching both. Star's Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, Haley Joel Osment, and more.

MeetMountain

Being afraid of dying on a commercial airplane is 2.4-4.1 million dollar settlement on average. I’m practical. I hope that happens. 🤣
