I misread the title for a second, and was confused why you would be crying during Krampus

Mandi

I so love this movie, it so brilliantly put together. And that ending just wrecks me every single time. A lot of modern Christmas movies get billed as “a new Christmas classic”, but to me this one truly is.

scott melton

I love that Simone still cracks herself up with the intros.

Rhiannon

Oh yeah! I always forget about The Christmas Chronicles, but it's so good. The second one is good too.

Jennifer Tremblay

Oh man, I have been waiting for this one! It's my favourite Christmas movie. I cry every time I watch it.

Franz Liszt

Don't wanna be that guy, but *technically* The Passion of the Christ is not a Christmas movie. It's closer to an Easter movie as it tells the story leading up to his Ressurection. A Christmas movie would be about his birth.

Mike W

I love this one. Such a good take on the story. And the animation style is so good.

Our family and most friends pretty much ditched presents. Especially as friends with income get older, the only thing we really gift to each other - without expectations whatsoever - is any sort of thoughtful creation; a drawing, a wonky-ass diorama, fun videos, songs... things that get instantly remain stuck in everyone's minds by virtue of them being bespoke. And face it: any effort is high effort. You get me a Napoleon Dynamite-style portrait of myself, I'm going to cherish it, even if you yourself aren't in on the joke (poor sod). If I actually like it beyond that, you scored about as high as anyone could. Has been like this since we were teenagers. We obviously got plenty of big stuff from our gracious and fairly gratuitous parents, but we all agreed that we've been raised hard into this environment of relentless perma-consumption (which hey, we all still heavily dabble in and always will as gamers and musicians, at this point Thomann should probably take care of my future mortgage). Similar alignment, similar reason for me to turn vegan is all the paradigms and axioms we accept ("you need to contribute to literally a hundred million beings experiencing real pain being tortured - literally - to death"), simply because it is a cultural relic... Which is equally fucked, if you ask me. I'm nobody to preach the atrocities of daily living, we're all making do and I am virtually a recent convert in like half of my beliefs; still, isn't it massively fucked up that half the Internet is legitimately concerned about, say, anonymous data collection being opt-out rather than opt-in... while growing up in a dairy and meat-eating society (replace with any cultural legacy you can think of that is pretty weird) is more of a "let's just make to sure to film little Buddy at all times so we can capture the precise moment he realizes he's eating the cute cow's flesh in a nice juicy puddle of heme". Such a wonky blindspot, speaking in terms of civilization and its many achievements. Factory farming is thoroughly fucked, but we don't see it, do we. And that's all of consumption. Devastating to think about, especially since there is so little we can do except hope for Jevons Paradox to suddenly stop working its magic. Which it will, as it always does. I am far from the cog (heh) I want to be in the greater machine, but I suppose you do get to feel slightly better about yourself. And honestly, it's not pointless. You achieve things, you motivate people. I have hot flashes of shame where I remember even the vaguest anti-vegetarian skits and rants (to keep in line with the theme) we celebrated. The Epic Meal Times of any given generation draping glazed bacon over everything... and I just feel so much shame, not for myself, but for possibly, likely turning people with pretty solid and much more tenable convictions off of their intended path. And the real kicker is: you're always involved. If you benefit from some sort of subsidies, some kind of great price dynamic for your instruments, clothes, salamis, someone in a developing country is paying for it. Well, they're getting paid for it, and perversely enough, they're off somewhat decently if you don't look at the complexity of one half of the world basically doing modern slavery with extra steps-- well, as I was saying... we don't do presents all that much anymore. If someone needs anything, they know who to petition. I guess money is one way to keep your shithead siblings in line.

Also yeah, cooking on Christmas. Pastitsio is my/our go-to dish, and we're not even Greek. We also happen to get balls for Christmas.

2 recent Christmas movies that i really like, Violent Night, Arthur Christmas

romai

This became a staple movie for me when I first watched it, the feelings I get watching it are very festive and warm :)

Zeryn

Thank you Simone... Your comment allows me to say it: the colors of that sweater are hideous. I am guessing it is intentional, but those are like not Xmas green and red. I never wrote to Santa. I made a list and gave it to my parents. I never truly believed in Santa as far as I can recall. Like I liked the idea of it so I went with it, but I figured out it was my parents pretty quickly. As for where the letters go, there are whole programs for it in both Canada and the US. I believe there are some independent volunteer organizations you can address them to and the post office has it's own volunteer program. They recieve the letters and try and reply to as many as possible as Santa. Think sometimes gifts are included for children in need sometimes.

michael cross

would probably be way passed christmas but you should check out violent night with david harbour.

BoredLittleLady

Such a wonderful origin story. Christmas classic.

Dorran

Klaus is such an amazing, powerful story. I never come out of it with dry eyes XD I would also recommend the movie The Christmas Chronicles (which, yes, is also from Netflix) and Violent Night!

Jacob Colson

I loved her Die Hard with a Vengeance intro where she fumbled several times before going into a Wayne's World intro. lol. And when she came up with that weird accent (I wanna say a little Hank Hill in there) in her Home Alone 2 intro where she said, "You better subscribe to our freaking channel, I tell ya what."

James O'Sullivan

This quickly became a new classic for me. For another alternative look at Father Christmas my suggestion for next year is Arthur Christmas. Has some big British names I know you're fans of.

FranciscoGios

Never seen this movie, and coming from a person that almost never looks for Christmas stories or movies this was very touching. Netflix animation is pretty good at making stories like this not gonna lie.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Look at Cinebinge looking all cute & festive in your lil’ ugly ass sweaters (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) Fun little addition to the yearly Christmas watches. As far as movies that tell the “orgins” of Santa Claus, one I remember watching as a kid was an animated movie based on a L. Frank Baum story, “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus”. Not sure how well it holds up, been a few lifetimes since I’ve seen it but I’m looking forward to checking it out again now that I’m reminded of it.

Jesper (the postman) is voiced by Jason Schwartzman. His mother is Talia Shire who played Connie Corleone in the Godfather trilogy.

Kaz5209

in Canada we have a similar service. our postal codes (your zip codes) have a format of (Letter, number, letter, number, letter ,number ) so the postal code for Santa is H0H0H0 ... pretty neat

gfixler

I loved this one! I'm glad the CB crew brought it to my attention. I hadn't even heard of it. 🎄🎅🦌💌👮🏻‍♂️

Jennifer Tremblay

I agree. And I'm glad so many people cry at this one, too, because it makes me sob every time. I love it to bits.

Maniacalmouse

Klaus surprised me in the best way when I came across it on Netflix. Incredibly touching. If you want some other good ones, I recommend the following (Some mainstream, some not.). Feel free to take them or leave them as you see fit. 🙂 Ernest Saves Christmas The Family Man A Christmas Story Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol The Muppet Christmas Carol Miracle on 34th Street (1947) The Ice Harvest (Not strictly a Christmas movie but takes place on Christmas Eve.) Keep up the great work!

Mark Polo

I actually am from the Sápme region of Sweden btw 😉 (I am not Saami, myself though but there is always Saami around in my hometown)
